GREENE
Daughter of the late William and Catherine Tucker, Mrs. Esther Tucker Greene departed this life November 12, 2001. Preceded in death by her husband, Percy B. Greene, she is survived by her devoted daughter, Shelley V. Greene; beloved granddaughter, Jaia Meri D. Greene; loving sisters, Mary T. George (Arnold) and Barbara T. Lee (Norman); brothers-in-law, James Watkins and Charles Dunlap; sister-in-law, Eva Tucker; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them devoted, Alice Branch and Tomoria Freeman. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home where her family will receive friends 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. After 10 a.m. Friday, her remains will rest at Fifth Street Baptist Church where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Rev. F. Todd Gray officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HALL
Ruby Hall, 84, of Mineral, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001. Mrs. Hall was a member of Mineral Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, W.T. Hall; nephews, David Craig Leake of Spotsylvania and Edward Lewis Leake of Mineral; nieces, Hilda Kernodle of Elon College, N.C., Jean Underwood of Gibsonville, N.C. and Mary Anne Faucette of Burlington, N.C.; great-nephew, Craig Leake Jr.; and a number of other great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Woodward Funeral Home, 200 Fredericksburg Avenue, Louisa, Va. with a graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. in the Mineral Baptist Church Cemetery, Mineral, Va.

HAZLEWOOD
Mrs. Myrtle C. Hazlewood, age 76, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Mike Gaylor of Gloucester Point, Va.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Paula Hazlewood of Oxford, Ala.; one sister, Mary Cochran Perkins of Burkeville, Va.; and two grandsons, Kyle and Kory Hazlewood, both of Oxford, Ala. Mrs. Hazlewood was a member of Antioch Methodist Church, a member of the D.A.R., the Lunenburg Historical Society and the Burkeville High School Alumni.

HIGH
Lizzie "Lou" Tuck High, 71, of Chester, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Willie H. High; daughters, Peggy H. Baker of Suffolk, Trudy H. Mellott and Emmie H. Jovel, both of Chester; sisters, Lottie Nunn of Virgilina, Va. and Eva Conduff of Roanoke; brother, retired USAF Col. James E. Tucker of Texas; grandchildren, Michael Mann, Matthew Mann and Dylan Jovel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Funeral services for Mrs. High will be private.

HOGUE
Alfonso Hunter Hogue, 83, of Mechanicsville, died November 13, 2001. He was a retired supervisor for Richmond Guano Co. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Hogue; and several nieces and nephews. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2001. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

HORTON
Dorothy Tuten Horton, widow of Robert O. Horton, passed away on November 13, 2001. She was born in 1906 in Furman, S.C., a daughter of the late Eliza Stokes and S.W. Tuten. Mrs. Horton had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1941 and the Palmer Sunday School Class. She was a retiree of the Richmond Public Library. Dorothy gave of herself to everyone and was known as an avid bridge player. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Renee and John Atkinson and June and Philip McKown; seven granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, and many devoted nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church. Interment in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Food Pantry of First Baptist Church or to your favorite charity.

JUDKINS
Andrew H. Judkins of Richmond, departed this life Monday, November 12, 2001. He is survived by his brother, Welford Judkins; one niece, Lisa Lorraine Judkins; one nephew, Welford Lee Judkins; several cousins; one sister-in-law, Nealease Judkins; several friends, among them, Brenda Reid; and devoted Ben Miller; caretakers, Hattie Carter, Clara Sheppard, Gloria Miles and Geraldine; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Friday, November 16, 12:30 p.m. Dr. Robert L. Pettis officiating. Interment in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia Co., Va. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the funeral home, Friday, 12 p.m.

KIDD
Margaret Thore Kidd, 84, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Thore and Sarah E. Thore. She is survived by three children, Peggy Kidd Taylor and her husband, Richard, Thomas Jerry Kidd and David Terry Sr.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby T. Coleman and her husband, Ned; a brother, George W. Thore and his wife, Peggy; and her only true love, Charlie D. Kidd. Mrs. Kidd was a former member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of New Vision Baptist Church. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was retired from Thalhimer's after 34 years of service. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.

Garland Peters of 1014 Cheatwood Ave. died November 14, 2001. Remains rest at Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" Street. Funeral notice later.

PLEASANT
Departed this life November 14, 2001, Mr. Irvin Pleasant of Richmond. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street. Funeral notice later.

POWELL
Betty Ray Powell, age 63, died November 14, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Posey Odell Powell; two daughters, Martha Powell and Patricia Earnhart and husband, Jerry; two sons, Mitchell Ray Powell and wife, Melanie and Terry Lee Powell and wife, Wanda, all of Emporia; three sisters, Shirley Livingood, Mamie Livingood and Dorothy Johnson; one brother, Sidney Lee Pinkston, all of Salisbury, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Echols Funeral Home Chapel, Emporia. Interment to follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Skippers, Va. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

ROBERTSON
Mary Taylor Robertson of Richmond, widow of the Honorable Walter S. Robertson, died Monday, November 12, 2001. Born in Henderson, N.C. in 1899, she was the only daughter of the late Jaquelin P. Taylor and Catherine W. Taylor. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jaquelin E. Taylor. She is survived by two sons, Walter S. Robertson Jr. of Charles City, Jaquelin T. Robertson of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Herbert A. Claiborne Jr. of Richmond; seven grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 16, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Valentine Museum or the Richmond Ballet.

ROUNDS
Marian Elnora McConnell Rounds, age 81, of Mechanicsville, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2001 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Mason Rounds. Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Rounds Clemons and her husband, William E. of Norfolk, Judy Rounds Journey and her husband, Donnie of Varina and Rebecca Mason Rounds of Heathsville. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her seven grandchildren and their families, Wilson, Katie and Molly Clemons of Norfolk, Matt Fitzgerald and his wife, Jennifer of Bon Air, Stevie Journey of New York City, Jason Burrow and his wife, Barbara of Mechanicsville, Ryan Burrow and his wife, Holly of King William; as well as her great-grandchildren, William Chandler Clemons and Lauren Elizabeth Burrow. Mrs. Rounds was a former employee of Sovereign Bank, Alkat Electric, and retired from Richmond Memorial Hospital. Burial services will be private. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Woody Funeral Home, Laburnum Chapel, in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Haynes Small, 94, of Richmond, formerly of Mathews County, Va., passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2001. She was a retired school teacher from Mathews County and a member of Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, Va. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen F. Carneal; husbands, Dabney M. Foster and William W. Small; and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J.W.D. Haynes; and is survived by two granddaughters, Susan B. May and her husband, Marty of Chester, Va. and Amy B. Frasher of Ashland, Va.; four great-grandchildren, John, Amanda, Austin and Katie; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews on Saturday, November 17, 2001 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 in Central United Methodist Church, Mathews. Burial to follow at Haynes Cemetery, Cobbs Creek. Memorial donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 297, Mathews, Va. 23109.

Charlie W. Smith of Richmond, Va. departed this life Sunday, November 11, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Vernie Smith; one son, Michael Smith; one granddaughter, Tambra Smith; two brothers, Willie Smith of Goochland, Va. and Henry Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland, Va. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 16, at County Line Baptist Church. Rev. Walter Jones, pastor, officiating. Interment Smith Family Cemetery. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral services.

SOLOMON
In the loving memory of Harold DeMango Solomon, born to Dianne Solomon Carter and Harold Dickey of Memphis on September 6, 1979, departed this life November 8, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Makiyah Cooper, Katavia Solomon; sister, Ebony Hurd; brother, Marcus Laney; grandmother, Clara Dickey of Memphis Tenn.; grandfather, Levi Solomon of St. Louis, Mo.; a host of other relatives and friends. Laura N. Sunday, age 93, of Richmond, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001. Widow of Henry V. Sunday, she is survived by two daughters, Virginia S. Moseley and Judith S. Gray, both of Richmond; her son, Harold L. Sunday of Newport News; three sisters, Lottie N. Doeppe, Inez N. Kilgore and Irene N. King, all of Richmond; one brother, Patrick Nelson of Manakin-Sabot; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

S. Preston Swann Jr., age 43, of Heathsville, Va., died Tuesday, November 13, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Stanley and Barbara Swann; a brother and his wife, Paul and Denise Swann; three nieces, Paula, Carla and Amber Swann, all of Heathsville, Va.; and a devoted friend, C. Willing Browne, Washington, D.C. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment Wicomico UMC Cemetery, Wicomico Church, Va.

SZILASSY
Alex Szilassy of Hungary passed away November 2, 2001. Funeral services will be held at the Korean Canaan Church, 8001 Walmsley Blvd., on Friday, November 16 at 5 p.m. He is survived by his mother, Cornelia; sisters, Judy and Cornelia; aunt, Gabinani Takacsy; children, Alex and Sandy; other family members and friends from both local and international communities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Korean Canaan Church.
