KIER
Mrs. Mabel L. Kier, grandmother to Clarence L. Beasley, departed this life March 22, 2002. The staff of the W. S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

LOCKWOOD
Wanda Jean Lockwood, of Richmond, died March 21, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lockwood. Survivors include three children, Kim Connock and her husband, Shawn, Ransom Lockwood and his wife, Donna, and Paul Lockwood; her son-in-law, Lawrence Dudley Jr.; two granddaughters, Amanda Dudley and Victoria Lockwood; one brother, John Ringo Jr. of Indiana; and one sister, Darst Beach of Tennessee. Mrs. Lockwood was an employee with over 30 years of service with the Pepsi Cola Company. She was a loving and great "Nana". Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad.

McGRADY
James Norman McGrady, of Richmond, passed away Friday, March 22, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Minnie McGrady; and two brothers, Jerry and Rush McGrady. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Baker McGrady; one son, James Timothy McGrady and his wife, Michelle Johnson McGrady; two granddaughters, Ashley Nicole (Tweetie Pie) and Sarah Renee' (Bean) McGrady; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mr. McGrady was retired from the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart from services in Korea. He was a great dad, papa, and husband. He will be missed, but never forgotten. He can now walk with God and help protect us again. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.

MILLER
Mrs. Mary Katheryn "Kitty" Glover Miller, 103, died March 22, 2002. She was the widow of Henry J. Miller, a well-known local insurance professional who taught pre-naturalization classes sponsored by St. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral for over 35 years. Mrs. Miller was born in Charlottesville, December 20, 1898, the daughter of the late Robert Lee Glover and the late Lylia Gertrude Harler Glover. She was raised there and in Clifton Forge, and spent her entire adult life in the Richmond area. She taught piano in the early years of her marriage. Mrs. Miller was a volunteer in the Red Cross Canteen Corps during WWII. She served as president of the Barton Garden Club, was a member of the Ginter Park Garden Club and a life member of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. At the time of her death she was participating in the New England Centenarian Study conducted by Dr. Thomas Perls at Harvard University Medical School. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dr. Forrest W. Pitts of Richmond; two grandsons, Stephen F. Pitts and his wife, Marcia of Maryland and F. Gregory Pitts of Charlottesville; two great-granddaughters, Katheryn R. Pitts and E. Melinda Pitts of Maryland; and her nephew, Clyde M. Glover of Richmond. Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 800 East Grace St., Richmond, or Beth Sholom Home, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond. Private funeral services and interment will be held in Clifton Forge.

PARKER
Walter G. "Jim" Parker Jr. 72, of Colonial Heights died March 21, 2002 in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. He was a native of Norfolk and was the son of the late Walter Grady Sr. and Ethel Saul Parker. Mr. Parker served his country with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He retired from Bell Atlantic as Public Relations Manager for the Tri-Cities and Southside, Va. with 38 years of service. Mr. Parker was active in many community affairs, such as Petersburg Rotary Luncheon Club, member since 1980; past president Paul Harris Fellow, Lifetime Achievement Award, Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, past president five years; Private Industry council, first chairman when organization founded; Petersburg Vocational Educational Advisory Council; past president Fort Lee Advisory Board member. As well as having served as the United Way Board Chairman and Colonial Heights Planning Commission, 18 years of service and past chairman for 17 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Parker Woods. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Fantone "Dolly" Parker; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and Earskin Adkins of Chester, Va., Susie Parker and Bob Catron of Chester, Va. and Cindy Parker of Colonial Heights; a son, Walter G. Parker III of Colonial Heights; three grandsons, USMC LCPL Bradley Kennedy of Okinawa, Japan, Jamie Carter and Brandon Carter of Colonial Heights. A funeral service will be Monday, March 25, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Raby E. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon, Va. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights EMS or to the Rotary International Foundation.

PERDUE
David Wayne Perdue, 56, died on March 21, 2002. He is survived by Martha Chaffins Perdue, his wife of many years; and also by their two sons, Preston H. Perdue and Christopher M. Perdue, his wife, Susan Haskins Perdue and their sons, Eric Perdue and Spencer Perdue, all of Richmond. Also surviving are his brother, Bert E. Perdue; and sister, Jean M. Newsom, both of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Additionally, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2002 at 2 p.m., Nelsen Funeral Home, Laburnum Ave. The family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association, in lieu of flowers.

PHILLIPS
Miss Lucy Lenis Phillips, age 92, died Friday, March 22, 2002. She is survived by a special sister-in-law, Neta S. Phillips of Highland Springs, Va., formerly of Baskerville, where they made their home for many years; two nephews and spouses, John and Betsy Phillips and Irving and Nancy Phillips; three nieces and spouses, Andrean and Mickey Taylor, Lenis Anne and Kenneth Barlow and Juaneta and Johnny McLaughlin. Also surviving are a number of great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Miss Phillips was a lifelong resident of Mecklenburg County and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also an Avon Representative for many years. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 by Father Shawn Griffith at Farrar Funeral Home with interment to follow at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Union Level, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Farrar Funeral Home, South Hill. Condolences may be emailed to farrar@msinets.com

PINKOWSKI
James Joseph Pinkowski, 49, of Midlothian, died March 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Pinkowski; children, Stephen and Courtney Pinkowski. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia; six brothers, one sister and several nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 Monday at St. Edwards Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216.

PROIETTI
Gertrude Gutshall Proietti, 80, formerly of Richmond, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, and is survived by a daughter, Antoinette M. Proietti of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, James E. Proietti of Richmond; two sisters, Marguerite G. Chappell of Ocala, Fla. and Clarice G. Kemp of Richmond; two grandchildren, Joey and Christina Proietti; and a great-grandson. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, where services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. Interment will be private at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.

SAMPSON
Nellie Elmore Sampson, 90, of Richmond, formerly of Craig County, Virginia, died March 22, 2002. She is survived by her niece, Katherine Deaton of Baltimore; nephew, William Elmore of Louisville, Ky.; sister-in-law, Barbara Webb of Richmond. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and where services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Holly Ridge - Lakeside Christian Church, 8469 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville 23116. Mrs. Sampson worked for many years as a Supervisor with the Hill Directory Company.

SCHNEIDER
William L. Schneider, 79, passed away March 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor L. Schneider; his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Glen Kellogg; two grandsons, Sean and Erik Kellogg. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 25 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of St. Ann's Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland. DIGNITY MEMORIAL

George B. Swinson, 88, of Glen Allen, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Edith M. Swinson; two daughters, Ann S. and Thomas J. Mills and Doris Marie Swinson of Lynchburg; two sons, and daughters-in-law, George E. and Patricia A. Swinson and Ronald D. and Sharon E. Swinson; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Dollie Swinson of Maple Hill, N.C. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday (today) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5600 Monument Ave. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

WALLS
Mary Ellen Rae Walls, 95, of Richmond, widow of Bernard Warren Walls, died Friday, March 22, 2002. She is survived by three sons, Robert W. Walls and his wife, Carol of Gulf Shores, Ala., William E. Walls and his wife, Nancy of Richmond, Richard H. Walls and his wife, Patty of Foley, Ala.; her sister, Elsie R. Britt of Alexandria; two brothers, Eugene F. Rae of Emporia and G. Floyd Rae of Lanexa; 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday 12 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

WEAVER
Fred W. Weaver Jr., age 76, of Crewe, died Friday, March 22, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mabel K. Weaver; son, Gene Warren Weaver of Richmond; daughters, Mrs. Carolyn W. Tuck of Yorktown, Mrs. Cynthia W. Womack of Richmond and Miss Vicki Weaver of Richmond; stepdaughter, Murline O. Fowler; four grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara W. Mitchell of Hampton and Mrs. Nan W. Rhoades of Hampton. Mr. Weaver was a retired conductor on the Norfolk Southern Railroad and a WWII Army Veteran. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Crewe Cemetery. military honors by VFW Post No. 7819. The family will receive friends at the home, 781 Country Club Road, following the services. WILSON
Stanley Watson Wilson Jr., 41, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, March 21, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley W. Wilson Sr.; grandfather, Clyde W. Wilson; and grandparents, Jesse and Doris Barr. He is survived by his wife, Lori Dee Wilson; two daughters, Stacey Lynne and Krystal Carey Wilson; his mother, Judith Barr Elliott; stepfather, James Elliott; his mother- and father-in-law, Mary and James Prince; two brothers, Stephen and Todd Wilson; one sister, Tricia Mayes, all of Mechanicsville; his grandmother, Gertrude Wilson of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

AILSWORTH
William W. Ailsworth, 63, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 5, 2002. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Emily Ailsworth and Joel C. Pack of Roanoke; two nieces, Abigail Pack and Jeffrey Copp of Harrisonburg, and Jennifer Anne and Thomas Goolsby of Victoria Island, British Columbia, Canada; one grand-niece, Billie C. Goolsby. Mr. Ailsworth served in the U.S. Navy. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Washington Memorial Park.

ANDERSON
Died May 4, 2002 in Baltimore, Maryland, Charles Anderson Jr., formerly of Richmond. Upon arrival, remains will rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral notice later.

BASSETT
Paul Toms Bassett Jr., 43, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Christine Galiani Bassett; two children, Luke Auman and Sarah (Sadie) Jayroe Bassett; his parents, Juanita and Paul Bassett Sr.; a sister, Edith Ann Bassett; two brothers, Peter and Philip Bassett; his mother and father-in-law, Dr. Alfred and Sarah Galiani. Mr. Bassett was a charter member of Cornerstone Christian Church. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

BEASLEY
Linwood Tilton Beasley, 80, died on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at his home. He was a native of Norfolk, Va., and was the son of the late Linwood R. and Ellen Beasley. He retired from Exxon Oil in 1982 as a marketing representative after over 35 years of service. He was also a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member and also the treasurer of Salem United Methodist Church in Gloucester and a member of Botetourt Masonic Lodge #7, AF&AM. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Thomas Beasley; his daughter, Joann Beasley Abbott and her husband, Pete of Richmond; his son, R.L. Beasley of Staunton, Va.; a sister, Dorothy James of Virginia Beach, Va.; a granddaughter, Melanie Lynn O'Neal and her husband, Stephen Patrick of Richmond; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Salem United Methodist Church by Rev. Lowell Stovall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and at other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of Salem United Methodist Church, 4521 Pampa Rd., Gloucester, Va. 23061. Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
