BELL
Mr. Irvin Nathaniel Bell Sr., age 92, of Powhatan, Va., departed this life on Thursday, May 2, 2002 in Powhatan. He is survived by his wife, Willie Sue Bell; four sons, Dallin, Roger, Irvin Jr. and Edward Bell; five daughters, Nancy Hendricks, Valarie Gamble, Leah Kirkland, Karen and Yvette Bell; 22 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, George, Paul and Velon Bell; a sister, Helen Laws; three sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan. Rev. James E. Robinson, pastor, officiating, with interment in the church cemetery.

BOCKRATH
USN FC3 Nicholas Allen Bockrath, brought into this world on August 10, 1982, took God's hand on May 2, 2002 to join His Army of angels. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Patty and Glenn Layne; his father and stepmother, Mickey and Donna Bockrath; his grandparents, Foy and Jo Ann Garris, Raymond and Bessie Layne, and Julia Bryant; great-grandmothers, Sunbeam Bockrath and Flora Ambrose; his love and mother of his future child, Holly Long; also his aunts, Suzy Totty, Sarah and Clara Garris, Connie King; uncles, Ronald and Ricky Garris. Nick touched the lives of numerous people. In memory of Nick and his love for animals, please make memorial donations to Save Our Shelters, (804) 358-7499. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. and where services will be held 4 p.m. Monday. BOTTOMS
Lillian Sykes Bottoms, 95, a resident of Lucy Corr Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2002. She was the widow of William I. Bottoms Sr., and was preceded in death by a son, Elvin Carroll Bottoms. She is survived by her daughter, Lanell B. Cubbage; son, William I. Bottoms Jr.; sisters, Ilene Fields, Bertha Andrews and Doris Lewis; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Second Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Madalene Anderson Bradley, age 97, of Richmond, widow of Charles W. Bradley, died Saturday, May 4, 2002. She is survived by her nephew, H. Bradley Anderson; two nieces, Judith Anderson Steinbach and Cornelia Hamilton Lahey; two great-nieces; and seven great-nephews, four great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one niece, Betty Anderson Driskill and two nephews, Bryson Hamilton and William D. Hamilton. Mrs. Bradley was a member of the Ginter Park United Methodist Church and the King's Daughters Circle of Sheltering Arms Hospital. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Shackleford Chapel United Methodist Church, Shackleford, Va. BROOKS
Bessie Angle Brooks, 68, of Chesterfield, formerly of Powhatan, went to be with the Lord May 4, 2002. She is survived by three daughters, Melissa Watson, Melinda Lawrence and Michele Brooks; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Brooks, Kristy Watson, Will and Kaitlin Edinger, Robert, Roger and Ronnie Watson and Rebecca Moody; and four great-grandchildren; stepmother, Blanche Angle of Greenville, N.C.; two sisters, Shirley Ryder of Front Royal, Va., and Billie Angle of Raleigh, N.C. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Chesterfield Fire Dept., C.A.R.E.S. Program.

BRYDIE
Alberta M. Brydie, 87, of Richmond, entered eternal rest May 2, 2002. She is survived by her son, Lamont Brydie and his wife, Lloyd of Powhatan, Va.; her daughter, Lanett Brydie of Los Angeles, Calif.; one granddaughter, Jessica Brydie; a sister, Alleise C. Patterson of Richmond. She also leaves to mourn, several nieces and nephews, Doris Johnson, Teaneck, N.J., Barbara Earley and Vivian Paige of Richmond, Phillip, Everett, Frank, Samuel and Eric Patterson, and Joseph, Frank and James Byrd; three sisters-in-law, Viola Brydie of Richmond, Georgia Seay, Alberta Brydie; and one brother-in-law, Howard Brydie and his wife, Nana of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. BUNN
Mrs. Imogene Morgan Bunn, 90, of Charlottesville, died on May 3, 2002. She was the wife of the late Rev. Benjamin F. Bunn. She led a distinguished nursing career in Richmond and Charlottesville, Va. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Health nursing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is survived by one sister, Georgia Cousins of Richmond, Va. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at First Baptist Church, 632 W. Main St., Charlottesville, Va. with Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Beard presiding and Rev. Dr. Robert Taylor delivering the eulogy. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. J.F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BUTLER
John L. Butler, age 85, of Dillwyn, Va., formerly of Henrico Co., Va., went to be with God on Saturday, May 4, 2002. Mr. Butler was retired from Henrico County School Board Maintenance Dept. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice G. Butler; son, John R. Butler; grandson, Michael R. Austin; and great-grandson, Zachary C. Bollinger. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Slayton Butler; his daughters, Joyce M. Bollinger of Montpelier, Va., Anne Adams and her husband, Marshall of N. Wilkesboro, N.C.; one remaining brother, Bill Butler and his family of Petersburg, Va.; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Doris Butler; stepson, Donald Slayton; two stepgranddaughters, four step-great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Mr. Butler was a member of Goldmine Penecostal Church. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and where services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. BYRNE
Larry Byrne, age 70, son of the late, James Byrne and Elizabeth Byrne, passed away, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at home in Chester. Mr. Byrne retired from the US Army as a Sergeant in 1968 after 20 years of service. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion. Mr. Byrne was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Byrne, Tommy Byrne and Stephen Byrne. He is survived by a long time companion, Debbie Bradshaw; two daughters, Rita Minor and Rhonda Groeneman; sister, Rita Younghans; brother, Billy Byrne; three grandchildren, Amber and Crystale Minor, Heather Wheeler; one great-grandchild, Haley Stutz. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. in Gould Funeral Home. Burial in Arlington Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

COLEMAN
Mrs. Evelyn M. Coleman, 85, died May 5, 2002 in Farmville. Survived by her husband, Charlie W. Coleman; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Marie Lynch, Chase City, Mrs. Harriett "Bunny" Callahan of Manakin-Sabot, Mrs. Barbara J. Brown of Prospect; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two sons, Edward B. and George W. Coleman. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville. Graveside services 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Elizabeth S. Cook, 89, of Dillwyn, died May 3, 2002 in Farmville. Surviving relatives, husband, Woodrow T. Cook; two sons, Edward T. Cook, Prospect, Wayne Cook, Richmond; two daughters, Lois C. Carter, Burkeville, Ann C. Metcalf, Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Shorter Funeral Home Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery. CRUMP
Mrs. Mary H. Crump, age 89, of Richmond, formerly of Charles City, Va., died May 3, 2002. Surviving are six daughters, devoted Grace M. Crump, Kate Crump, Lois Anderson, Hilda Barbour, Gloria Williams and Gwendolyn Mosby; 17 grandchildren, three devoted, Robin Riley, Penny Gaines and Charmaine Smith; host of great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Neal; two sons-in-law, Rev. E. Walter Anderson and Rev. Charles M. Williams; one daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Crump; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. After 12 Noon Tuesday, May 7, remains will rest in Parrish Hill Baptist Church, Charles City, Va., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. E. GATLING
Claude Lee Gatling, 92, a resident of Lakewood Manor Baptist Home in Richmond, died May 4, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia B. Gatling; and his son, Stanley L. Gatling, and is survived by his daughter-in-law, Eloise R. Gatling. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was a former pastor of Perkins Baptist Church in Goochland, and was Pastor Emeritus and Trustee of the church. The family will receive friends at the Norman Funeral Home, Goochland, Va., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6. Funeral services will be held at Perkins Baptist Church, 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7. GEIGER
Iola B. Geiger, 79, of Colonial Heights, Va., died on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at her residence. A native of Appomattox, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Mary Moore Burge, and the widow of Henry R. Geiger Sr. Mrs. Geiger was an employee at Brown and Williamson in Petersburg, Va., for 43 years. She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights for 42 years, a member of Colonial Heights Senior Citizens, and the Colonial Heights Women of the Moose Club. She is survived by a son, Henry R. Geiger Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; granddaughter, Kristen Nicole Geiger of Petersburg; sister, Sadie Marino of Lynchburg, Va.; brothers, Paul Burge of Concord, Va., Robert Burge and wife, Violet of Moneta, Va., and Wallace Burge of Amherst, Va.; sisters-in-law, Genevieve G. Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., and Gayle Slade of Hopewell, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va. Rev. David Lewis and Chaplain Ludwig Hoge with the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens will officiate. Clarice "Patsy" Golding, 85, of Alexandria, formerly of Amelia, widow of Thomas L. Golding, died May 4, 2002. She is survived by six sons, Ralph and Arvil, both of Mechanicsville, James and Jimmy, both of Chester, Jerry of Richmond, Billy of Keysville; five daughters, Shirley Smith of Marion, Betty Hodge of Powhatan, Janice Dailey of Manassas, Becky Moore of Winston-Salem, N.C., Linda Stepp of Issaquah, Wash.; one sister, Betty Jean Faulkner of Mt. Airy, N.C.; forty grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan, and where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment Pine Grove Community Cemetery, Amelia.

Stuart Preston Hardy of 3906 Forest Hill Ave., Apt. 1-A entered into eternal rest on May 2, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Shirley and Marion Hardy Sr.; one sister, Shirl Russell; three brothers, Melvin, Sterling, and Marion Hardy Jr.; ten aunts, six uncles, five nephews, 12 nieces, seven great-nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment Maury Cemetery. George N. Hart, age 78, of Blackstone, Va., died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at his residence. He is survived by one brother, B.L. Hart of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hazell and Joseph C. Hazell; a sister, Frances Campbell Nugent; and grandson, Harry O. Hazell II.
