William N. Snavely, age 75, of Farmville, formerly of Keysville, died Monday, April 9, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Lois N. Snavely; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Ash Camp Memorial Cemetery. Remains rest at Browning Funeral Home.

TRAYLOR
Betty Harding Traylor, 73, of Richmond, departed for her heavenly home April 9, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ryland L. Traylor Jr.; and sister, Helen H. LaFemina. She is survived by three children, Bernie L. Traylor and wife, Marie of Jacksonville, Fla., Monte G. Traylor and wife, Arlene of Currie, N.C., and Jody T. Simpson and husband, Michael of Manakin; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maebelle H. Crump and Barbara H. Caplan; and one brother, Percy B. Harding Jr., all of Richmond. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12. Interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice or the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 1701 Cardwell Rd., Crozier, Va. 23039.

Taylor Fitz-Hugh Turner Jr, 67, of Richmond, died Monday, April 9, 2001. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity, a hospice or St. Matthews Episcopal Church. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, April 12, 9 a.m. at Grace Community Baptist Church, 2400 Pump Rd., Richmond, Va. 23233. Entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2001, Mrs. Magnolia Battle. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her daughter, Bernice Davis of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Patricia Morris (Edward) of Boston, Mass., Ernest and Sheila Battle; six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Bullock of Rocky Mount, N.C.; sister-in-law, Teretha Locket (Harold); three nieces, Lelia Orange, Josie Wallace and Jean Sanders of Danville; a host of other relatives and friends. BRAGG
Jennie Mae Ragland Bragg, 86, of Scottsville, died Monday November 5, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Ragland; her husband, Jospeh Russell Bragg; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include five children, Doris Taylor of Esmont, Ruby McMillan of Alexandria, Mary Bradshaw of Goochland, Thomas Russell Bragg of Midlothian and Esther Grace of Ashburn, Va.; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bragg was a member of Glenmore United Methodist Church, Buckingham County. She had also taught Sunday School at a Methodist Church in Goochland and was a member of Home Demonstration Clubs in Goochland and Howardsville. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenmore United Methodist Church, Buckingham, with the Rev. James O. Radford and the Rev. Todd Brooking officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. (Directions to the church from Scottsville: Rt. 20 South/Turn right onto Rt. 655/Turn right onto Rt. 602/church on the right.) The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville. The family suggests memorial contributions be considered for Glenmore United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Rt. 1, Box 2460, Buckingham, Va. 23921.

BROWN
Albert A. Brown of Richmond departed this life Friday, November 2, 2001. He is survived by four daughters, Patricia, Nikki, Felique and Marquetta Jackson; three granddaughters; two sisters, Terry Barnes and devoted Carolyn Brown; two brothers, Willie Jr. and David Ligon; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends, among them a devoted friend, Patricia Jackson. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2 p.m. Pastor Charles D. Gentry Sr. officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the funeral home Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.

John G. Crow Jr., age 56, of Short Pump, died Monday, November 5, 2001. Arrangements are pending at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

DABNEY
Lorraine Dabney of Goochland, Va., formerly of Maidens Road, departed this life on November 5, 2001. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland. Funeral notice later.

DeMERITT
Eleanor DeMeritt of Richmond, formerly of New England, died Friday, November 2, 2001. A graduate of Mary Washington College, she proceeded to do her graduate work at the College of William and Mary. Her teaching career began in her native Massachusetts and continued in the Richmond City Schools and Henrico County's Brookland Middle School. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10 in Dell Park Cemetery, Natick, Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity or St. James's Episcopal Church, 1205 W. Franklin St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

DOBBINS
Howard W. Dobbins Jr., age 50, died unexpectedly in Pompano Beach, Fla. on November 4, 2001. Mr. Dobbins attended The Collegiate Schools, Christchurch Episcopal School and Boston University. He formerly owned and operated Thunder Alley Classic Motorcycle Works in Richmond. He is survived by a son, Howard W. Dobbins III; his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Howard W. Dobbins; and two sisters, Anne D. Brasfield and Elizabeth Leigh Crenshaw. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at 310 Westoe Rd. Services will be held in Powell Chapel of Second Baptist Church, River Rd. and Gaskins Rd. at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 8. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Home for Boys or the Building Fund of Second Baptist Church. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

ESTES
Jeanne Anne Hathaway Estes went to join her Lord on November 3, 2001 after complications from a stroke in January. A devoted, wife mother and grandmother, she also dedicated 25 years to managing church offices for Mizpah, Third and Tuckahoe Presbyterian Churches. Born in Pleasantville, N.Y. January 28, 1924 to Harry and Edna Hathaway, she moved with her family to Richmond after the depression and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She especially enjoyed studying literature at Virginia Commonwealth University (formerly RPI) and visiting her older brother, Robert Morse Hathaway, and his friends at the University of Richmond. During World War II she fell in love with and married Army Specialist Elihu Strong Estes of Glen Ridge, N.J. They honeymooned on the train to their new duty station at White Sands, N.M. where the world's first atomic bomb was being tested. Meanwhile brother Bob completed an accelerated degree program in order to earn his Navy Wings flying from several different aircraft carriers. After the war, El and Jeanne completed college and began over 30 years of service to the YMCA starting in downtown Washington, D.C. Transferring to the Richmond Downtown "Y" in 1955, they became lifelong charter members of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. They then began raising their three young boys and sharing with them the adventures of swimming, sailing, hiking and camping all over the U.S. Jeanne is survived by her three sons, Mark G. Estes and his wife, Anne, Timothy C. Estes and his wife, Marilynn, David H. Estes and his wife, Cindy; her grandchildren, Brooke and Nathan Estes of Norfolk and Genevieve and Chasen Estes of Richmond; nephews, Robert and Richard Hathaway; nieces, Emily Hathaway and Dianne Hathaway Freeman; and cousin, Winifred Schenck. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service for her will be held Monday, November 12 at 11 a.m.

FLEMING
Frank Fleming Jr. of Richmond entered eternal rest November 1, 2001. Cherishing his memory are his two daughters, Tori L. and Tisha L. Fleming; two sons, Saun D. Jones Sr. and Frank Fleming III; four grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Fleming; one devoted nephew, James E. Fleming. The family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m. at the All Faiths Chapel of the A.D. Price Funeral Establishment, 212 E. Martha Bradner Frye, 81, of Chesterfield, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 3, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Veta Smith Butler; sons, Garland W. Smith and his wife, Joyce, and Larry E. Smith and his wife, Kathy; sister, Mary Bradner Jennings; seven grandchildren, Linda Tuck Rutledge, Harrell (Chip) Tuck III and his wife, Diane, Karen Tuck Lawson and her husband, Joe, Paige Smith, Marnie Smith Longest and her husband, Todd, Andrew Smith and Sarah Smith. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maury Cemetery.

GRATZ
GARBER Helene Bender Gratz Garber, 85, died November 4, 2001. Mrs. Garber was a resident of Lakewood Manor Baptist Home. She was the wife of the late Chester Gratz; and is survived by her husband, Howard A Garber. She is also survived by her son, John C. and Mary Gratz of Richmond; and two daughters and their spouses, Nancy and Warren A. Winner of Richmond and Charlotte and I. Lester Hoyle Jr. of White Stone, Va.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Manor Simms Center on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond, Va. 23220, or West End Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 11144, Richmond, Va. 23230.

HANSON
Mattie Lee Easter Hanson, age 94, died November 4, 2001. Mrs. Hanson was noted for her artistic endeavors and on being an avid gardener. She was a member of the Powhatan Hills Woman's Club and the Montrose Chapter Number 176, Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a longtime member of the Old Dominion China Club. She also was an active member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Hanson was loved and respected by family and a host of friends and made a lasting impression on all. She is survived by two daughters, Lindy E. Oakley and Mollie E. Rupe; five granddaughters and their husbands, Sheila O. and James Pigninelli, Cheryl O. and Frank M. Beamer, Rhonda R. and James Payne, Denise R. and Keith Dunlevy, Michelle R. and Art Hudgins; ten great-grandchildren, James G. and wife, Lisa, Stacie Harvey, Shane Beamer, Casey Beamer, Clint Payne, Kellye Payne, Judson Dunlevy, Lauren Dunlevy, Aris Hudgins and Chandon Hudgins; two great-great-grandchildren, Kendyl Harvey and Jacob Wallace Harvey; one niece and her husband, Beatrice and Nick Nixon; one great-nephew, Michael Nixon; a great-great-nephew, Chris Nixon; a great-great-niece, Jennifer Nixon; and several cousins. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, where the family will receive friends 2 to 8 p.m. on November 6, 2001. Family and friends are invited to attend the 11 a.m. service on November 7, 2001 being held in celebration of her life, at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, 2010 Carlisle Avenue. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church.
