Callie R. Spencer
Callie Martin Robertson Spencer, 94, of Blue Ridge Yacht Club Road, Bassett, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Alamance Health Care Center in Burlington, N.C.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1911, in Henry County, to Alexander Martin and Rosie Spencer Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Posey C. Robertson; a son, Ophus Eugene Robertson; a stepson, Harley Robertson; five sisters, Clemmie Craig, Ada Martin, Dollie Spencer, Dorella Mabe and Alice Martin; and four brothers, Willie Martin, Curtis Martin, Johnny Martin and Charlie Martin.
She retired from Bassett-Walker Knitting Co., and was the oldest member of Faith Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and was in the choir.
Surviving are her second husband, Albert Noel Spencer of the home; a daughter, Shirley Willard of Graham, N.C.; a stepson, John Albert Spencer of Bassett; a stepdaughter, Nancy Carol Stone of Bassett; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral chapel with Pastors John Shelley and Rick Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be made to James Wesley Willard II Scholarship Fund, Bea Sanford-Elon University, Campus Box 2600, Elon, N.C. 27244.

Agnes V. Tucker
A funeral for Agnes Vernon Tucker, 93, of Stuart, who died Oct. 31, 2005, was held Wednesday at Peters Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Ragsdale and Johnson Gupton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Vernon, Jerry Vernon, Charles Vernon, Donald Vernon, Jimmy Shockley, David Shockley and Gale Shockley.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret B. Bowyer
Margaret Betty Bowyer, 60, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
She was born Nov. 14, 1945, to Robert Stanley Bowyer and Margaret Elizabeth McFarland Bowyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Bowyer.
Surviving are a brother, Bobby Bowyer of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McKee-Stone Funeral Services from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Rena C. Cobbler
The funeral for Rena Carolyn Cobbler, 58, of the Virginia-North Carolina Road, Spencer, who died Nov. 2, 2005, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mayo Christian Church where she was a member. The Rev. Ed Hartman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Moorefield Store community.
Visitation will be held at the church, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Larry and Danie Cobbler in Spencer.
A Patrick County native, she was born Oct. 10, 1947, to J. Richard Cobbler and Mildred C. Cobbler. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by a brother, Joe E. Cobbler; and two sisters, Nan C. Merritt and Rachel Cobbler.
After graduating from Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, she was employed at the Stuart Lumber Company for many years. She also was in the restaurant business for several years.
Surviving are four brothers, Marion Cobbler of Stuart, Wayne Cobbler of Rocky Mount and Larry Cobbler and Doug Cobbler, both of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Mayo Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 444, Spencer, Va. 24165.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse W. Dollyhigh
The funeral for Jesse Willie Dollyhigh, 95, of 4280 Longview Drive, Fieldale, who died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at the Salem Health and Rehab Center, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Collins Funeral Services chapel in Bassett. Dr. Joe Bryant will officiate. Burial will be at Union Bridge Church cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Dollyhigh was born in Ararat, N.C. on Feb. 10, 1910, to James Dollyhigh and Susie Mills Dollyhigh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Bryant Dollyhigh; a son, David Lee Dollyhigh; five brothers; and five sisters.
He retired from Life of Virginia Insurance and Economy Camper Sales. He was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church.
Surviving are two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; three great-great-granddaughters; and a niece and nephew.

Grace H. Martin
EDEN, N.C. -- Grace Hensley Martin, 90, of Eden, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at Brian Center in Eden.
She was born in Rockingham County, and was a member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Martin; daughter, Margie M. Gray; son, Junior M. Martin; and a granddaughter, Judy K. Martin.
Surviving are four grandsons, including one from Ridgeway; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fair Funeral Home. Burial will be in Christian View Christian Church cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today.

Ruth E. Martin
Ruth Edwards Martin, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at South West Florida Regional Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla.
She was born in Mayodan, N.C. on Oct. 12, 1930, and moved to Bassett with her parents, John William Edwards and Lucy Goad Edwards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Renard Roland Martin; and a brother, Dennis E. Edwards.
She belonged to several charitable organizations as well as the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Renae Martin McGuire of Waxham, N.C.; sisters, Frances Matherly Wolfe of Martinsville, Barbara E. Reeves of Dallas, Texas, Ruby Imogene Jamerson of Richmond, Peggy E. Marlowe of Axton and Elizabeth Edwards of Richmond; brothers, James D. Edwards of Bassett and Clifton R. Edwards of Lebanon, Tenn.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Michael Hearp and John Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, and other times on Saturday and Sunday at the home of her sister, Peggy Marlowe, 122807 Chatham Road, Axton.

Franklin D. Nickelston
A funeral for Franklin D. "Frank" Nickelston, 72, of Bassett, who died Nov. 1, 2005, was held Thursday at Collins Funeral Services chapel at Bassett. Dr. Joey McNeill and the Rev. Jim Alsop officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Burial park with a flag presentation by Staff Sgt. James Lark and Master Sgt. Donald Nead of the U.S. Army from the 80th Division in Salem.
Pallbearers were Jerry Atkins, Kendall Prillaman, H.L. Prillaman, Doug Prillaman, Kenneth Keen, James Johnson, Vern Wood and Larry Lavinder.

Leonard G. Pulliam
Leonard Galloway Pulliam, 88, of Ridgeway, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, N.C.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1917, to Pryor Pulliam and Myrtle Land Pulliam. In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Lynch and Lucy Roberts; and two brothers, James Roar Pulliam and Harding Pulliam.
He served in the Army during World War II, retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 15 years of service, and he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Ray Scott Pulliam of the home; one daughter, Jean Williams of Ridgeway; a son, Leonard Darrell Pulliam of Ridgeway; two brothers, Arthur Milton Pulliam and Doc Roland Pulliam, both of Eden; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Funeral Services chapel. Burial will be in the Pulliam family cemetery at Ridgeway.
Friends are being received at the home at 223 Rivergreen Drive, Ridgeway.
