GASKINS
Mrs. Erma Lee Harris Gaskins, 73, of Drewryville, widow of Walter L. Gaskins, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Diane G. Downs Morgan and husband, Richard; two granddaughters, Donna D. Griffies and husband Scott, and Kay D. Allen and husband, Jay; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Taylor Griffies and Emilee and Madison Allen; one aunt, Lois B. Gaskins; four sisters, Peggy Ames and husband, Garland, Jeannette Wicker and husband, Wick, Mary Lou Wilkens and husband, George, Eloise Marable and husband, Bill; two brothers, Raymond Harris and wife, Nancy, Al Harris and wife, Sherry; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2002. Interment Drewryville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, General Delivery, Drewryville, Va. 23844.

GRAHAM
Marvin F. Graham, age 79, of Green Bay, died Monday, January 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne W. Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda L. Williams-Towberman and Dr. Thomas J. Towberman of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis "Skip" Williams III and Kim Williams of Richmond; grandchildren, Colt and Brandy Williams; brother, James R. Graham and wife, Katie of Williamsburg; sister, Mildred Gibson and husband, Cecil of Chester; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Graham was a retired vice president of the former Virginia Tractor Company and past president of Crewe Kiwanis Club. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Christian Church, Green Bay, with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Interment in church cemetery with military honors by Crewe VFW Post No. 7819. The family will receive friends at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, Crewe, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Christian Church, Green Bay, Va. 23942 or a favorite charity.

GRINNAN
Adelaide Buist Grinnan, formerly of 5216 Edgewater Drive, Norfolk, currently a resident of Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach, died peacefully on January 27, 2002. She was born April 19, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Dr. George Lamb Buist and Adelaide Richardson Buist. She was the widow of Dr. R. Bryan Grinnan Jr. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Va. Mrs. Grinnan was a graduate of Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn and Vassar College. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Garden Club of Norfolk, The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Society for Preservation of Charleston, S.C., Society for Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and the Virginia Historical Society. Her special love was for working for the Woman's Auxiliary at Norfolk General Hospital where she served as President. For many years, she was chairman of the Interns and Residents Committee. Survivors include three sons, R. Bryan Grinnan III and wife, Patricia of Norfolk, George L. B. Grinnan, MD and wife, Karon of Virginia Beach, Richardson Grinnan, MD and wife, Lelia of Richmond; a sister, Martha Eleanor Buist of Hanover, N.H.; a brother, Richardson Buist and wife, Jean of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Helen Grinnan Cook of Louisville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, with the Reverend Charles A. Joy and the Reverend Allen Johnson officiating. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster-Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Randolph Bryan Grinnan Scholarship Fund at Hampden-Sydney College, P.O. Box 637, Hampden-Sydney, Va. 23943. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk chapel, is handling arrangements.

HARRIS
Miss Keisha Harris of Richmond departed this life January 28, 2002. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.

HAUSER
Karl E. Hauser Sr., 80, of Colonial Heights, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at the Dunlop House in Colonial Heights. A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., he was a son of the late Arthur Lee and Fannie Jane Luper Hauser. Mr. Hauser was a retired supervisor for E.I. Dupont Corporation and served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a past president of the Good Sam's Camping Club and a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mr. Hauser was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hauser and a son, Karl Hauser Jr. as well as brothers, Robert Hauser, Guy E. Hauser, George L. Hauser and Howard H. Hauser. He is survived by a granddaughter, Kimberly Padua of Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Nicholas Padua of Richmond; three brothers, Thomas W. Hauser, Fred A. Hauser and Arthur Lee Hauser Jr.; a sister-in-law, Mary Belle Traylor of Colonial Heights; a daughter-in-law, Faye Hauser of Colonial Heights; a step-grandson, Lance Merriman and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 31, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Darrell Hammons officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834.

HAWK
Mildred Ruth Hawk of Maidens, Va. died January 28, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Hawk; son, Mike; and grandson, Thomas Smith Jr. She is survived by her children, two sons, Charles and Douglas Hawk of Maidens; four daughters, Minnie Smith and Patricia Barrack of Maidens, Carol Burton of Manikin and Betty Walton of Glen Allen; three sisters, Dodge Combs and Margie Scott of Goldsboro, N.C. and Evelyn Frith of Glen Allen; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Remains rest at the Norman Funeral Home, Goochland, Va., where family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Elpis Christian Church. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elpis Christian Church, Maidens, Va.

HELWIG
Bettie Carter Helwig, 68, of Mechanicsville, widow of Harold V. Helwig, died Monday, January 28, 2002. She is survived by a son, David Helwig and his wife, Kim; a daughter, Diana Helmick and her husband, Michael; eight grandchildren, Jackie Leigh, Matthew, Jacob, Jeremy, Jesse, Jonathan, Julianna and Josie; two sisters, Doris Clark and Linda Nagy; a brother, James H. Carter Jr.; and several nieces. Mrs. Helwig was a member of the auxiliary of VFW Post 9808 and the auxiliary of Richmond East Moose Lodge No. 543. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove, Mechanicsville, where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment Hanover Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of Central Virginia or the American Cancer Society.

HOBSON
Allard Douglas Hobson, 82, of Richmond, born April 25, 1919, passed away Monday, January 28, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margie P. Hobson; son, Douglas Kent Hobson and wife, Carol of Kenner, La.; daughter, Lynn H. Sutton of Richmond; and grandchildren, Bryan S. and Kasey D. Sutton and Cary Stuart Hobson. Mr. Hobson was a retired employee of Chewning & Wilmer Inc. Electrical Contractors after 40 years of service. He was a member of IBEW Local 666, a life member of Manchester Rescue Squad for 23 years, and a member of American Legion Post 137. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., (Rt. 10), from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. His funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Southminster Presbyterian Church. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church's Lighting Fund, 7500 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235.

JOHNSON
Nell Rudd Johnson, age 85, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus H. Johnson Sr.; and a daughter, Betty Evans. Survivors include one daughter, Margie Isbell and her husband, Ben; one son, Rufus Johnson Jr. and his wife, Becky; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, E.B. Rudd; and one sister, Elsie Bowles. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

KNIGHTON
Madeline Nichols Knighton, 91, a long-time resident of Richmond, Va. and widow of Dr. Holmes T. Knighton, died Sunday, January 27, 2002 surrounded by her loving family: daughter, Shirley K. and son-in-law, Jack T. Vaughan of Houston, Texas and daughter, Carole K. and son-in-law, Dr. L. Winston Smith of Richmond. Born in Jonesboro, Ark. and raised in York, Ala., the only daughter and second of six children born to Grover Cleveland Nichols and Olta Mae Tyler Nichols, she attended the University of Montevallo. She is survived by two brothers, Dr. John Bransford Nichols of Pensacola, Fla. and James Hugh Nichols of Atlanta, Ga.; and by her sister-in-law, Edris K. Gary of Richmond. Madeline was an active member of the MCV Faculty Wives Club and Clovelly Garden Club. Active in her circle and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she is also survived by five grandchildren, Jeffrey H. Vaughan and Craig T. Vaughan of Houston, Texas, Dr. L. David Smith and wife, Denise of Northhampton, Mass., Elaine S. Sofinski and husband, Bruce of Richmond and Ann Macon Simpson and husband, Marshall of Dallas, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren, Anna, Jacob, Isaac, Eliza, Madeline, Nicholas, Zachary and Liam. Visitation at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service at Trinity UMC, 903 Forest Ave., Thursday at 1 p.m. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Trinity UMC Pipe Organ Fund or to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.

LAND
Mary M. Land, age 82, of Sandston, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Gordon Land; and her daughter, Brenda Cummings; Tracey, her granddaughter; and Rebecca, her great-granddaughter. Mrs. Land was an active member of Sandston Baptist Church and many civic organizations. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Sandston Baptist Church. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

LEWIS
Dorothy E. Lewis went to be with the Lord January 29, 2002 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a nurse at HealthSouth Hospital for 23 years and a member of Faith Landmark Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Lewis Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Karen Patterson and Wanda Wicker; three sons, William R. Lewis Jr., Randy Lewis and Mike Lewis; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Stephen, Melinda, Ray, Kellie, Hunter, Olivia, Tom, Julia and Stephanie; her sister and best friend, Josephine Sciotto. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Multiple Myloma Foundation at 123 Main St., Richmond, Va. 23229.

LONG
Joyce H. Long, 73, of Richmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy L. Long Jr.; and is survived by her sister, Naomi "Boots" Edwards; niece, Gale C. Craft and her husband, Roscoe Craft; great-niece, Nicole L. Craft, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Blanche L. Stockner, Ashland, Va.. Helen L. Payne, Glen Allen, Va., Alice L. Bell and her husband, Alvin of Glen Allen; a brother-in-law, John I. Long and his wife, Betty of Richmond, Va.; and devoted friends. Mrs. Long's family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, January 30. Sterling Lamont Maclin Jr. of Richmond died January 27, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Sterling L. Maclin Sr. and Marcella D. Maclin; a sister, Teresa Bowling. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Virginia Home. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

MARTIN
Anne Page Martin, age 39, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002 in Avon Park, Fla. She was born in Richmond, Va. on December 24, 1962. She had recently moved to Avon Park from Richmond. She is survived by her mother, Alice Barrett of Sebring, Fla.; father, Arthur Martin Jr., of Richmond, Va.; grandmother, Mary Hogan of Richmond, Va. Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Avon Park, Florida.

McCRONE
Marian L. McCrone, age 85, passed away on January 27, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl S. McCrone. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara M. Dance of Chesterfield, Va. and Arlene M. Hardie and husband, Nicholas W. Hardie of Powhatan, Va.; grandchildren, Thomas W. Dance of Concord, N.C., Jerry W. Dance and wife, Denise H. Dance of Chesterfield, Va., Kathryn H. Joyce and husband, Lonnie Joyce, Kenneth W. Hardie and wife, Susan H. Hardie of Powhatan, Va.; great-grandchildren, Thomas B. Dance, Brandy M. Dance of Chesterfield, Va., Steven Dance of Concord, N.C., R. Christopher Joyce, Nicholas A. Joyce and Christian M.L. Hardie, all of Powhatan, Va. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McPHERSON
Helen E. McPherson, age 97, died Saturday, January 26, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, William McPherson; and her son, Daniel McPherson. She is survived by her niece, Barbara J. Smith. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Pioneer Baptist Church Cemetery.

MILLER
Lehew W. "Lee" Miller Jr., 60, of Richmond, died Monday, January 28, 2002 in Henrico Doctors Hospital. Born in Cumberland, Md., he was a Coast Guard veteran and had been a field service manager with Crown Cork and Seal in Richmond since 1985. Survivors include his wife, Naomi R. Miller; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Dan Bresson of Laurel, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Peggy-Anne Miller of Bowling Green; his parents, Udy and Virginia Miller of Cumberland, Md.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Kim Miller of Cumberland and four grandchildren, Danny, Amy and Stacy Bresson and Dylan Miller. Mr. Miller will be cremated and the family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the home of his son at 18138 Harding Dr., Bowling Green, Va. and also on Saturday, February 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the home of his daughter at 9344 Sewall Ave., Laurel, Md. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity. Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, handling arrangements.

David Stephen "Steve" Noll of Chester, Va. died Monday, January 28, 2002. Mr. Noll was a native of Bellefonte, Pa. and the son of Geraldine and David L. Noll of Chester. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Susan P. Noll; two daughters, Stephanie Glossner and her husband, Scott of Bellefonte, Pa. and Christine Gamber of New Castle, Del.; stepson, Ronald A. Fajohn of Richmond; three grandchildren, Joshua, Emaleigh and Olivia Glossner; a sister, Pam Yarnell and husband, Jerry of Canton, Mich.; brother, Fred Noll and wife, Laine of Virginia Beach; mother and father-in-law, Beatrice and Bernard L. Parish of Chester, Va.; niece, Stephanie Lee and husband, Jason of Canton, Mich. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 1, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2002 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
