James G. Ronk
James Grayson Ronk, 55, of Henry, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Martinsville on July 9, 1950, to Carlton James Ronk and Beulah Beckner Ronk, both deceased.
He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.
Surviving are two sons, Matthew Ronk of Fieldale and Jeremy Ronk of Henry; one daughter, Amber Ronk of Henry; two sisters' and several nieces and nephews.
The service was private. Bassett Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Albert R. Sherwood
Albert Robert Sherwood, 66, of 2591 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1939, to George D. Sherwood and Vergie Yowl Sherwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Sherwood Fletcher; two brothers, David Sherwood and William Sherwood; and a grandchild, Jody Sherwood.
He was employed by North American Transfer Co., and was a member of the Old Fashion Gospel Church.
Surviving are four sons, Albert Richard "Rickie" Sherwood Jr., Joey Wayne Sherwood and George Jacob "Bitty" Sherwood, all of Axton, and Samuel "Sammy" Sherwood of Bassett; a sister, Mary Sherwood Brewer of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, George D. Sherwood Jr. of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Odell family cemetery at Ridgeway with Pastor Jim Nester officiating.
Friends will be received at Community Funeral Services from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at the home on Mountain Valley Road.

Arnold M. Donavant
The funeral for Arnold McKinley Donavant, 81, formerly of Sandy Level, who died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at Newport News Nursing and Rehab Center, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. The Revs. Albert Robertson and Dean Ashby will officiate. Graveside military honors will be conducted at Roselawn Burial Park by the Army and the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Roselawn Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Born April 22, 1924, in Henry County, to Posey McKinley and Addie Thelma Ashby Donavant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Alice Johnston Donavant; two brothers, Calvin and Euell Donavant; and a sister, Addie Beverly Highfill.
A World War II veteran, Donavant was a staff sergeant with the military police and served in General Eisenhower's headquarters. He also was a dog trainer for the military's Canine Corps.
He was a member of Valley Chapel Church in Callands, the Church of Truth in Dry Fork and Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Altavista. Donavant was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and he was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are four sons, Arnold Dwight Donavant of Yorktown, Thomas Randall Donavant of Charleston, S.C., Gary Dean Donavant and John Daniel Donavant of Newport News; one brother, Wilton O'Neal Donavant of Hampton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Karen H. Galloway
Karen Denise Hightower Galloway, 27, of 401 Hidden Valley Drive, Reidsville, N.C., died of brain tumor complications on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Brian Center in Eden, N.C.
She was born in Chapel Hill, N.C., on April 11, 1978. She was a member of Fellowship Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Henry County, where she served as a usher and secretary of the youth department.
Surviving are her husband, Ron Galloway of the home and formerly of Henry County; a daughter, Ariana Galloway of the home; her father, Danny Hightower of Prospect Hill, N.C.; her mother and stepfather, Pearl Sykes and Steve Sykes of Leasburg, N.C.; and a brother, Kevin Hightower of Leasburg.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fellowship Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ with Bishop Phillip Calloway officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens in Henry County.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the funeral Friday. At other times, friends may call at the home in Reidsville.
Arrangements are by Hines Funeral Services, Martinsville.

Fred W. Gilley
The funeral for Fred W. Gilley, 92, of Preston Road, Martinsville, who died Nov. 20, 2005, was held Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Minister George Harris officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kevin Clifton, Jackie Clifton, Travis Wilkins, Craig O'der, Gary Pollock and Shawn Prillaman.
Arrangements were by Collins Funeral Services, Bassett.

Mary R. Guilliams
A funeral for Mary Rachel "Polly" Guilliams, 88, of Bassett, who died Nov. 15, 2005, was held Nov. 18 at Bassett Funeral Services Chapel. Pastor Steve Tilley officiated. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Mike Richardson, Ricky Wagoner, Dale Wagoner, Gary Wagoner, Wayne Wagoner, Ronald Wagoner, Adam Helton, Robie Wagoner and Robert Wagoner.

Rateisha E. Hairston
A funeral for Rateisha Elysha Hairston, 23, of Martinsville, who died Nov. 20, 2005, was held Wednesday at the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church. Minister Mark E. Price Sr. officiated. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Dallas Hairston, Robert "Bobby" Hairston, Kenny Jones, Quinton Mitchell, Renado Hairston, Robert L. Hairston Jr., James Martin and Ombae Johnson.
Hairston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys E. Hardie
The funeral for Gladys Florence Emerson Hardie, 81, of 646 Old Mill Road, Ridgeway, who died Nov. 22, 2005, at her home, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the graveside at Roselawn Burial Park. The Rev. Cletus Lackey will officiate.
Friends are being received at the home on old Mill Road.
She was born in Axton on Dec. 5, 1923, to Pleasant Wade Emerson and Della Nichols Emerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Champ Clark Hardie Sr.; a son, John Franklin Hardy; and five sisters and two brothers.
She attended Henry County Schools and had been a homemaker for 67 years. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Ridgeway.
Surviving are three daughters, Marie Smith of Long Beach, Miss., Mollie Hanks of Ridgeway and Vicki Stroupe of Rock Hill, S.C.; three sons, Charles Wade Hardie of Axton, Champ C. Hardie of Ridgeway and Jimmy Hardie of Martinsville; one sister, Lena Melvin of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; eight grandchildren; a stepgrandson; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-stepgrandchild.
Bassett Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Rodney M. Lemons
Rodney Matthew Lemons, 70, of Hanover Place, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C., of complications from cancer.
He was born in Danville on Sept. 19, 1935, to Helene Starr Lemons and John Carroll Lemons Sr., both deceased.
He had traveled throughout the country working at various times as a salesman, construction worker and later as a construction site supervisor. He also was an accomplished artist and craftsman.
Surviving are his wife, Lucy Tyson Pruitt Lemons of the home; four daughters, Laura Montgomery, Kimberly Lemons Snowdy, Kelly Lemons Brown and Katherine Lemons Stoyer; a stepson, John Gregory Pruitt; two stepdaughters, Kelly Pruitt White and Sherri Pruitt Forte; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a brother, John "Booie" Lemons.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 215 West Main St., Danville.
Friends are being received at the home on Hanover Place in Ridgeway; also, at the home of his daughter, Kelly Brown at 2360 Berry Hill Road, Danville. On Monday, visitation with the family will be at the home of his daughter on Berry Hill Road.
Memorials may be made to the Danville Cancer Association Inc., 2323 Riverside Drive, Suite J, Danville, Va. 24540.

Dan S. Robertson
The funeral for Dan Stafford Robertson, 83, of Axton, who died Nov. 21, 2005, was held Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Bob Moore officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were John Robertson, Dan Wilson, Bill Wilson, Eddie Robertson, G.N. Robertson, Brian Robertson, Ernest Roach and Mickey Ingram.
