Dorothy M. DeChirico of Glen Allen passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mike. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 6 at 2 p.m., Bonnie Brae Church of Christ, 7610 Staples Mill Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.

DICKERSON
Elnora Harton Dickerson, 89, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy D. and Edward V. Hudson; granddaughter, Carolyn H. York; great-grandson, Chris York; sister, Louise H. Joyner; and two nephews, John and Jim Harton. Mrs. Dickerson was retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 12 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 2605 Dumbarton Road or the Hermitage, 1600 Westwood Avenue.

DOBSON
Carolyn J. Dobson of South Hill died June 26, 2001. Survived by her husband, Alfred D. Dobson; three daughters, Terry Fescharek and Sharon Parrish, both of South Hill, and Pamela Grueneich of Rolesville, N.C.; a son, Richard D. Dobson of South Hill; and nine grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. FERRARA
Lt. Col. Leonard S. Ferrara (Retired U.S. Army), 69, of Chester, died Monday, June 25, 2001. A native of Barrington, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Vincent James and Anna Ferruccio Ferrara. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemarie Ferrara. Mr. Ferrara was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Colonial Heights, having served on the finance council. Mr. Ferrara was a member of the Knights of Columbus having served as both a Past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He retired from the U.S. Army having attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He served in both Vietnam and Korea. He received the Silver and Bronze Stars. He also retired from a career with the State of Virginia. Mr. Ferrara participated as a volunteer for the Hospitality House at MCV Hospitals, the Carpenter Center and the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Program. During many elections, Mr. Ferrara served as a pole official for State and National elections. He served on the board of directors for the Quarter Master Museum at Fort Lee and volunteered his talents as a tax consultant with the Crater District Agency on Aging. He also took part in the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Golfing Group. He is survived by two sons, James L. Ferrara of Amelia Co and Leonard J. Ferrara of Winfield, Ill.; two daughters, Lynn M. Tetreault of Chesterfield and Jane C. Ferrara-Foulis of Richmond; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of the Eucharist will be celebrated Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 7 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, with Father James Cowles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment with full military honors will be Friday morning in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George at 10:30 a.m. The procession will leave the church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Cancer Institute. Arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

GATES
Howard V. Gates, age 89, passed away at his residence Tuesday, June 26, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Manuel Gates; his sister-in-law, Audrey Manuel Glenn of Richmond. Mr. Gates was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church for 55 years. He was employed by T.W. Woods Seed Co. for 32 years and retired from Miller and Rhodes in 1977. Mr. Gates was one of the first volunteers with the Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad or to Hospice of Central Virginia.

GIFFORD
Linda C. Gifford, 54, of Wirtz, Va., died Tuesday, June 26, 2001. She graduated Cum Laude from The State University of New York and was a member of three national honor societies while attending college. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Tracy Reef Christian. She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel L. Gifford II; son, Samuel L. Gifford III of Cleveland, Ohio; mother, Eula Miller Christian; brother, Tracy Jay Christian; sister, Geneva Gail Acree; sister, Sandra Kay DeSpain, all of Prince George, Va. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Merchant Hope Church, Merchant Hope Church Road, Prince George, Va. (804) 458-1356. Interment will follow at Merchant Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. GRUBBS
Louise Earline Olmstead Grubbs, 70, of Richmond, died Monday, June 25, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Leo Earl and Ruth Wilson Olmstead and widow of Herbert Afton Grubbs. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie Earl and Linda Grubbs; daughter, Cynthia Grubbs Carter; granddaughter, Kristy Nicole Grubbs; stepgranddaughter, Dana L. Price; brothers, Leo Earl Olmstead Jr. and Robert Frederick Olmstead; sisters, Vivian Olmstead Shoaf and Carolyn Olmstead Little. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (today). Interment Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Grubbs had been a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for four years. HAIRFIELD
Bruce Wayne Hairfield, 38, of Chesterfield, died June 25, 2001. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Lillian Hairfield; one brother, Robbie Hairfield and his wife, Shannon; one sister, Mary Jane Green and her husband, Russell; two nephews, Scott Hairfield and Zachery Green; one niece, Natalie Green; and a host of friends. Mr. Hairfield was employed by W.G. Speeks, Inc. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today) and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

HOLLOWAY
Lonnie E. (Junior) Holloway Jr., age 71, of Seaford, Va., left this life on Monday, June 25, 2001 at McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va. He leaves to mourn a son, James T. Holloway and his wife, Brenda E. Holloway of Minnesota; and a daughter, Deborah Holloway Little and her husband, Phillip E. Little of Chesterfield, Va.; along with them his grandchildren, Jennifer T. Holloway, Melissa A. Grow, Shawn M. Paul, Dana F. Little and Bradley E. Little. He also leaves behind two brothers, Alfred E. Holloway Sr. and B. Ellis Holloway, both of Richmond, Va. Services are being held on Thursday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the Church of God, 3400 Turner Road, Richmond, Va. Departed this life June 22, 2001, Peggy J. Holmes. She is survived by her son, Reginald L. Holmes; sisters, Mary and Brenda Holmes, Andrea Ramsey; brother, Kelvin Holmes and Melvin (Buddy) Holmes Jr.; father, Melvin Holmes Sr.; sister-in-law, Jamilla Holmes; uncles, William S. Braxton, Gordon Holmes, Louis and Harry Coleman Jr.; aunts, Mary Otey and Beatrice Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 12 noon from Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 1223 N. 25th St., with Pastor Darryl Husband officiating. HUNN
Samuel M. Hunn Jr., 60, of Richmond, died June 25, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Schrader Hunn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Samuel Gromovsky of Richmond and Jerri Anne and Steven Smith of Aylett; three grandchildren, Jacob and Kara Gromovsky and Connor Smith; a sister, Mrs. Frances Mills and her husband, John of Hagertown, Md. Sam was an air conditioning mechanic and taught his trade at the Richmond Technical Center and was a member of Union Local No.10 and a member of the Urbanna Creek Yacht Club. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. where services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Hospital, 2924 Brook Rd., Richmond, Va. 23220. Donate blood at Virginia Blood Services, 2201 Westwood Ave, Richmond, or your favorite charity.

JOYNER
Mr. Levern Joyner, age 70, died Tuesday morning, June 26, 2001. Levern is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jean Race Joyner. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Gould Chapel, Nelsen Funeral Home, Hopewell, 804-458-6377. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church by Pastor Michael Kane, with interment in Bermuda Memorial Park. Gould Chapel, Nelsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LALIK
Henri Lalik of Mechanicsville died June 26, 2001. Born December 11, 1933. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nejebe Shaar Lalik; three children and their spouses, Simone and Rick Pittman, Henri and Sharon Lalik, Marcel and Carrie Lalik; two grandchildren, Sierra Maree Lalik and Jason Pittman; one sister and her husband, Helene and Joseph Biagini. He was the son of Marcel and Francine Lalik of Joeuf, France. He served in the U.S. Army. There will be services at a later date. LENEAVE
James Norman Leneave III, age 40, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2001. A memorial service will be held for Jimmy on Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Chester United Methodist Church, Percival Street, Chester. Funeral services will take place at Jefferson United Methodist Church, Jefferson St., Goldsboro, N.C. at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2001 with interment in Fairview Cemetery, La Grange, N.C. Visitation will be held on Thursday night, June 28, 2001, 7 to 9 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange, N.C. He is survived by his loving wife, Marina; and son, James "Jake" Norman Leneave IV; his parents, James N. and Leona V. Leneave; a sister and brother-in-law, Bethany L. and Jimmy Jones Jr.; nieces, Emily and Laura Jones; his paternal grandmother, Amey B. Leneave; and his maternal grandmother, Lucy M. Deal. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Herma Ferris and her companion, Dr. Jerry Ferguson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rebecca and George Windom; nephews, Joshua and Nicholas Windom. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James N. Leneave Sr. and his maternal grandfather, James Vinson. Jimmy was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and uncle. He had so many special friends and touched so many lives during his short time here. MOAKLER
Paige Combs Moakler, 38, of Midlothian, teacher at Thomas Dale High School, died June 25, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Edward G. Moakler; two daughters, Vaune Amelia and Chloe Ann Moakler of Midlothian; her parents, Gaylord and Josette Combs of Farmville; brother, Chad Combs of Amelia; maternal grandmother, Louise Makowsky of Farmville; paternal grandparents, Dana and Elmer Combs of Charlestown, Ind.; also many other family and friends. She was a 1986 honors graduate from Indiana University. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Huguneot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 3 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Services and interment will be held in Sellersburg, Ind. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Paige Combs Moakler Scholarship Fund at Thomas Dale High School.

O'BRIEN
Josephine Spillane O'Brien "Jo" of Richmond went to meet her mate Monday, June 25, 2001. She was the widow of Hiram O'Brien "Obie". Survivors include children, Pat Noble, Coni McCann and Harold O'Brien; five grandchidren, one great-grandson; two sisters, Mary Chisholm and Madeline Martin. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Departed this life June 24, 2001, Ms. Gwendolyn Price of 3400 Westcliffe Ave., formerly of Bronx, New York and Mt. Oliver, North Carona. She is survived by one sister, Jonniecue K. Brown; cousins and other relatives and friends; among them, devoted Lola D. Harmon, Gladys Holmes, and Terone Seymore; and five godchildren. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral Thursday 1 p.m. from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Avenue, where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Rev. Ronnie Fleming (pastor) officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Frances A. Rothman, 82, of Washington D.C., formerly of Richmond, Va., a loving homemaker and volunteer passed away Monday, June 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Rothman, and is survived by her daughter, Donna R. Gary and beloved son-in-law, Stuart Gary; daughter, Marcia Goldstein and son-in-law, Mark; adoring grandchildren, Robin Gary, Kenneth Gary, and Ari Goldstein; brother, Leo Brooks of Miami; nieces and nephews, David (Carol) Cohen, Jerry (Phyllis) Cohen, Debbie Brooks and their children, Jeffrey (Aimee), Michael, Renee and Matthew Cohen. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday (today) in the Richmond Beth-El Cemetery at Forest Lawn. Virginia Hunter Ryan, 83, died June 12, 2001. A funeral service will be held at the graveside on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. in Blandford Cemetery. Contributions may be made to your favorite charity. The family is being served by the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, the Petersburg Chapel.

STABLES
Steven F. Stables, 49, of Midlothian, passed away June 23, 2001. A graduate of the University of Delaware, he was a finance executive for Household Finance Company. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Stables of Alloway, N.J.; son, Stefan Travis Stables; brother, Com. Thomas B. Stables, USN; and the mother of his son, Frances Diane Moser, all of Midlothian. Mr. Stables was a member of the Moose Lodge #1840 and Ducks Unlimited. A memorial service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Richmond Animal League.
