RIVERS
Richard A. Rivers, age 52, of Louisa County, passed away on May 27, 2001 after a difficult battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma. Born on February 26, 1949 in Waltham, Mass., he is survived by his wife, April; his son, Ethan; one sister, Carol Rudenauer and her husband, Michael; one brother, Roy D. Rivers and his wife, Karen. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Baptist Church in Gum Springs. Adored by his family and friends, he fought his illness with strength, courage and a positive attitude, and though it invaded his body, it could not invade his soul. A special thanks to the nurses on 3 west and 1st floor ICU at Johnston-Willis Hospital.

SNEED
Nancy Carol Sneed, age 62, died May 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Foley; and one son, Robert G. Sneed. Survivors include four daughters, Deborah L. Diaz of Richmond, Marilyn K. Clough and Virginia Witt, both of Morristown, Tenn.; and Catherine G. Coley of Suth Hill, Va.; her ex-husband, Leonard W. Sneed of Newport, Tenn.; one grandson, Jorge A. Diaz Jr.; three granddaughters, Angela D. Clough, Katlyn M. Clough and Dezere D. Coley and her mother, Mary Oldaker of Oak Hill, W.Va. Local arrangements are being handled by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Internal Medicine Department of MCV Hospital.

Phillip P. Woodson Jr., P.H.D. of Upper Montclair, N.J., died suddenly on May 24, 2001. Beloved husband of 17 years of Christina McCathie Woodson; devoted father of Rachael, Alice, Aaron and David Woodson; beloved son of Phillip P. Sr. and Dorothy Hawthorne Woodson; dear brother of Kathie Woodson Cavendish. Cecil H. Anderson of Richmond, departed this life Friday, February 15, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Anderson. She is survived by one daughter, Olga E. Anderson; one son, Anthony L. Anderson; one grandson, Tauri J. Anderson; two great-grandsons; one sister, Mildred H. Harrell; four nieces, three nephews; two aunts, Edna H. Pearl J. Bailey, age 94, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Bailey and is survived by her daughter, Elnite Carpenter; her son, James H. Bailey; four grandchildren, John Carpenter, Wanda Bradford, William and Shannon Bailey; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rudolph and James Jones; two sisters, Elsie Wilson and Bobbie Burgess; and her caregiver, Helen Green. CAKE
Mary Lee Harvey Cake, of Bedford, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at her home. She was born in Bedford, daughter of the late Thurston Webster Richardson and Minnie Lee Daniel Richardson. Twice widowed, her husbands were the late G. Keith Harvey and Walter J. Cake. She was also preceded in death by her brother, T. Webster Richardson; her son, MacDonald L. Harvey; and her stepson, Henry E. "Hank" Cake. In the early 1920's, Mrs. Cake assumed the ownership of the Bedford Bulletin newspaper following the death of her father. She remained the owner and publisher for over 50 years. She and her husband, Keith Harvey, purchased the Bedford Democrat newspaper in the 1960's, and the two newspapers then became the Bedford Bulletin-Democrat. She was a lifelong member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She and her brother, T. Webster Richardson, were part of the Peaks of Otter Foundation which operated the Peaks of Otter Tea Room and tourist bus service to Sharp Top Mountain. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Keith Harvey Overby of Richmond; four grandchildren, Mary Wade Guthrie and Whitney Cain Bernal, both of Richmond, Mackey L. Harvey and Jeffrey K. Harvey, both of Bedford; also seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kayla, Bethany and Melanie Guthrie, Cristian Bernal, Tiffany and Keith Harvey; and her nephew, Tom Richardson of Bedford. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at St Johns Episcopal Church, Bedford, with the Rev. Thomas Mustard officiating. Burial will follow in Longwood Cemetery. Anne W. Collins, 81, of Petersburg, died Friday, February 15, 2002 following a brief illness. She was born on May 5, 1920 in McKenney, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Floyd and Martha Whitmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford H. Collins, and a daughter, Betty Thomas. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Whipp and her husband, Dave of Chester; Patricia Langiotti and her husband, Ed of Reading, Pa.; and a son, Clifford H. Collins Jr. and his wife, Vickie of Hopewell. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, David Whipp, Jeannie Edfort, Brenda Michael, John Lee, Sue Soto-Rios, Christopher Collins, Michelle Collins, Jordana Swank, and Lara Langiotti; and 11 great-grandchildren with another expected soon. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Gould Chapel Nelsen Funeral Home, Hopewell. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Butterwood United Methodist Church, Davills, Virginia. Mable Dickerson Crews, 97, of Richmond, entered enternal life February 14, 2002 at Johnston-Willis Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Crews Sr.; daughter, Beulah Crews Hall; two sisters, Ruth Ford and Onell Ross; six brothers, Robert, Roy, Henry, Junius, Joseph and John Dickerson. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, James H. Crews Jr., a very devoted son, Johnny E. Crews; one brother, Rev. C.C. Dickerson; a devoted daughter-in-law, Dorothy Crews; sister-in-law, Marjorie Dickerson; 11 grandchildren, one devoted, Regina Ford Christian; 34 great-grandchildren, one devoted, Aron Crews; 29 great-great-grandchildren, four great-great-great-grandchildren, 14 nieces, six nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where the family will receive friends Monday, 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, where remains will lie in state at 12 noon. Thelma Hudgins Forrest passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2002. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, and had a life long involvement with the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wray Forrest. She is survived by her son, Dale and his wife, Lavenia; two brothers, Lorraine Hudgins and Dean Hudgins; two granddaughters, Judy Newlin and husband, Morris, Cheryl Land and husband, Paul; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, on Monday, February 18, 2002 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 19, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Milford Haven Cemetery, Diggs. Stanley Bryant Garnett, age 77, of Drakes Branch, died Saturday, February 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Fay Bailey Garnett; children, Rita Boyea and husband, Jeff, and Stanley C. Garnett, both of Richmond; one sister, Barbara G. Wilkins of Chase City; one brother, Hugh D. Garnett of Richmond, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Browning Funeral Home, with interment in the Hermon Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad or Hermon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Earle Crump Goode, 99, born July 10, 1902, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on February 16, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Goode; her parents, Otis Crump and Gertrude Bailey Crump; and the following brothers, sisters, and their spouses, Floyd Crump and his wife Hattie, Esther Crump, Mark Wheaton, James Willard Crump, and Bernard Jones. She is survived by two brothers, Raymond B. Crump and his wife, Margaret and G. Levis Crump and his wife Frances; two sisters, Ethel L. Wheaton and Joyce C. Jones; nieces and nephews, Jean Clyburn and her husband, Bob, Norma Lee Cooley, Georgia Lee Harding and her husband, Richard, Barbara Ann Barrett and her husband, Neil, Karin Hancock and her husband, Frankie, Sandra J. Kerr and her husband, Bruce, Benny Jones and his wife, Carol Ann, Nancy C. Ford and her husband, Pete, Beth Pullin and her husband, Roger, David B. Crump and his wife, Cheryl, and Todd Crump. She was a mother to many, especially Barbara Ann and Neil Barrett, Jim Reames, and Herman West. She is also survived by other nieces and nephews, Clyde J. Goode and his wife, Kathy, Mary Frances Siersema, Nancy Spivey and her husband, Gennell, and Mary Lou Okon; and sister-in-law, Mary Goode. Mrs. Goode was a lifetime member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Thomas Herbert Harrison Sr., 70, of Chesterfield, died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at McGuire Veterans Medical Center, Richmond. Arrangements are being handled by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

HASTINGS
Earle King Hastings, 79, of Mechanicsville, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Horace Hall Hastings; her daughter and son-in-law, Bliss H. and Douglas N. Bourne of Fredericksburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Earl H. and June P. Hastings of Richmond; her sister, Frances King Wheat; her grandson, Michael Lewis Hastings; her niece, Barbara J. Wheat; and numerous other devoted nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hastings moved with her family from Culpeper County to Atlee Road at the age of 12, and was a 1939 graduate of Washington-Henry High School. She worked for many years at Thalhimer's and ultimately retired from Circuit City. Mrs. Hastings was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, the Ashcake Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary and Mechanicsville Chapter #138, O.E.S. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 19. Dorothy Louise Brent Haynie, age 78, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. She was the widow of Warner M. Haynie and resided at Atria Retirement Community in Lake Wylie, S.C. Mrs. Haynie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rock Hill, S.C., and is survived by a son, George Brent Williams Sr. and his wife, Adeline Dix Williams, Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Barbara Timbs Smith and her husband, Stewart, Rock Hill, S.C. and Shirley Anne Williams, Hayes, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, James W. Brent and his wife, Jeanette, Louisa, Va. and Samuel R. Brent and his wife, Hazel, Richmond, Va. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., with interment in Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday, February 23, 2002.
