PILAND
Angela Gail Piland, 22, of Richmond, departed this life on July 18, 2001. She is survived by a host of loving relatives and friends, including her mother, Suzanne Jeter Piland; sister, Cory Marie Piland; and grandmother, Grace Reynolds Jeter. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Richmond SPCA.

REDFORD
Bettie W. Redford of Richmond died July 19, 2001. She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Seay, Ruby White, Doris A. Gustinilli, Mary Lawrence and Nancy Simmons; two brothers, James Dillard and Franklin Dillard; a cousin, Ann Swank. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church, Saturday, July 21, 2001 at 11 a.m. with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

STRONG
Eva Butler Strong of Louisa passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 in the Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Morris Strong; and her son, Calvin Morris Strong who was killed while serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Mrs. Strong is survived by her son, Nattie Strong and his wife, Shirley; her daughters, Arlene Cardinal and her husband, Sonny, Minnie Irwin and her husband, Russell. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Esther Grubbs; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family respectfully request that, in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in remembrance of Mrs. Strong to the Louisa County Rescue Squad. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa, Va. Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, is in charge of arrangements.

SYKES
Will Lee "Bill" Sykes, age 57, of Richmond, Va., died on Wednesday, July 18 2001 in the Richmond Community Hospital in Richmond, Va. He is survived by two sons, Eric Page of Farmville, Va. and James Sykes of Emporia, Va.; three brothers, Randolph Sykes of Emporia, Va., Claude Sykes and Leon Sykes of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Annie Malone of Emporia, Va., Thelma Brown and Sylvia Tann of Upper Marlboro, Md.; two aunts, Janie Drumgoole of Emporia, Va. and Ellen Drew of Petersburg, Va. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at 3 p.m. from the Mars Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Joseph Godfrey officiating. Interment will be in the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Final arrangements are entrusted to Knox-High Mortuary, Inc.

THACKER
Girdner Bowman Thacker, born July 13, 1909, in Memphis, Tenn. and Elliott Clarance Thacker, born October 1, 1913, in Nashville, Tenn., married on November 17, 1934. Elliott accepted a position with the U.S. Secret Service and moved the family to various points in the U.S., while Girdner was a devoted housewife and mother to their three children. In 1966, Elliott and Girdner retired to Springfield, Va. where they lived until 1993. Elliott resided at Bon Secours Retirement Home in Chester, Va. during his last few years and Girdner resided the last few years at Colonial Heights Convalescent Center in Colonial Heights, Va., and her last four months at Avante Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Va. After more than 66 years of marriage, Elliott entered into the eternal life on December 11, 2000, followed by Girdner's entrance on July 5, 2001. Girdner & Elliott are survived by daughters, Marion Harford and Solvang, Calif., Martha Blanchard of Dale City, Va. and Mary Myers of Harrisonburg Va.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. We love you and will miss you.

TURNER
Michael Edward Turner, of 6910 Walmsley Blvd., departed this life July 19, 2001 at MCV Hospitals. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St. Funeral notice later.

WELSHIMER
Betty Joanne Welshimer of Richmond died on July 17, 2001. She was born April 15, 1920 in Indianapolis to Paul and Beatrice Trump. She will be sorely missed by her surviving relatives: her husband of 55 years, Dr. Herbert Welshimer; her daughters, Dr. Kathleen Welshimer, Susan Shaw and Nancy Welshimer; and her grandchildren, Kathleen Shaw, Adam Cooper and Evan Cooper. She graduated from the Ohio State University and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Epsilon Delta fraternities. Betty held leadership positions in local and state Parent Teacher Associations. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 21 at Second Presbyterian Church, 5 N. Fifth Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund.

WESSON
Doris Merricks Wesson of Richmond, formerly of Brunswick County, widow of James Ernest Wesson, died Thursday, July 19, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Lahy and her husband, Donald; one granddaughter, Mary-Ellen Lahy; three grandsons, Jamie, Christopher and Timothy Lahy; four sisters, Frances M. Jones, Jane M. Brown, Lorell M. and Barbara M. Wilson. Services and interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to The Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220 or plant a tree in Mrs. Wesson's memory.

WHITE
Elnorist (Jannie) L. White, of 1304 Garber Street, died July 17, 2001. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah and Linda White; mother, Mrs. Alma White; three grandchildren, Natasha and Vincent White and Arthur Hill; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Ann and Vanessa E. White; brother, Charlie White Jr.; one great-aunt, Mary Daniels; one sister-in-law, Bonda White; one brother-in-law, James Johnson; devoted friend, Walter V. Clarry; host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at the Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Pk. Blvd., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 noon. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

WOOD
Jordan Edward Wood, 80, of Prince George, died July 19, 2001 in Southside Regional Medical Center. Mr. Wood, a son of the late Jordan A. and Mary E. Haskins Wood, was born in and lived his entire life in Prince George with the exception of his time in the service of his country during World War II in the Seabees branch of the U.S. Navy. He became postmaster of the Prince George post office and held that position from 1952 until his retirement in 1980. Always active in his community, he was a lifelong member of Gary's United Methodist Church and served for many years as Sunday school superintendent. He was a past treasurer of the Petersburg District of the United Methodist Church, a member of Prince George Lodge No.115 A.F.&A.M. since 1946, a past district deputy of the 29th Masonic District, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies since 1947, a past president and active member of the Prince George Ruritan Club since 1949, a member of the Chippoax Gun Club since 1969 and served as secretary/treasurer for 22 years. Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Mary Clary Wood; three sons, Thomas J. Wood and his wife, Peggy D., Robert E. Wood and his wife, Ann V., all of Prince George, the Rev. Stuart C. Wood of Port Republic, Va.; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Daniel, Clary and Jordan A. (Janson) Wood, all of Prince George; two sisters, Josephine W. Yost of Alexandria, Va., Rebecca W. Farmer of Richmond; a brother, William R. Wood of Prince George; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 in Gary's United Methodist Church, 13501 Sunny Brook Rd., Prince George, with his pastor, Rev. Carl E. Cosslett, officiating. The interment with Masonic rites will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home tonight, Friday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his memory to the Building Fund of Gary's United Methodist Church.

WRIGHT
Constance Louise Haywood Wright (Connie) went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2001 at the age of 58. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bernard; her son, David and his wife, Kristen; daughters, Lori and Donna and her husband, Jerry Natale; also seven grandchildren, J. David, Christopher and Aaron Wright, Sarah, Anna, Oliva and Jake Natale; she is also survived by her brother, David Haywood; her sister, Carol Benton; stepbrothers, Aubrey and George Mihalcoe; she is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Alice and Aubrey Mihalcoe. She was predeceased by her father, Russell Haywood. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum, where family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and where services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday. Interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park.

ALLGOOD
Garland E. Allgood of Baskerville, died December 22, 2001. Survived by his wife, Hazel A. Allgood; his daughter, Peggy Elizabeth Bradner; his brother, James Adolphus Allgood, all of Baskerville; half sister, Marion Brame of Boydton; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, George Thomas Allgood. Services Wednesday, 11 a.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Interment St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Baskerville. AUSTIN
Mrs. Adele O. Austin, widow of Percy Austin, a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and devoted member of Zenobia G. Gilpin Tent No. 580, departed this life December 22, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

BAIRD
Lobelia Shell Baird, age 82, of Gasburg, Va. died December 23, 2001. She was the widow of James Maxie Baird and is survived by a daughter, Donna Moon; five grandchildren, Phil Pair and wife, Dawn, Paula Sadler and husband, John, Holly Pair, Kevin Pair, and Justin Moon; three great-grandchildren, Meghan, Will, and Tristan, all of Gasburg; and a sister, Frances Parson of Emporia. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville, with interment in church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, 4 to 6 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville.

BAUGHAN
John Lee Baughan, 62, of Lottsburg, died December 23, 2001. He was the owner of Baughan Tire for over 30 years, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and was a generous, loving and giving man. Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret Baughan; sons, Michael Ray Baughan and daughter-in-law, Lisa K. Baughan and Robert Wade Baughan; grandchildren, Jordan M. and Megan K. Baughan, all of Lottsburg; brothers, Gene Baughan, Fairfax, Calvin L. Baughan, Churchview and David W. Baughan, Dunnbrook; sisters, Louise Baughan, Dunnbrook, Frances Jarvis, Mechanicsville, Barbara Mundy, Richmond and Dorothy Bunch, Warsaw. Funeral services 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood. Interment Melrose United Methodist Cemetery, Lottsburg. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Florence Tucker Brackett, former proprietor of Florence's Beauty Salon, departed this life December 22, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

Clay; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; one daughter-in-law, Frances Clay; two sons-in-law, Javen S. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Fifth Street Baptist Church, 2800 Third Ave., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. F. Todd Gray, Pastor, officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

DARDOISE
Edith Louise Dardoise passed way Saturday, December 22, 2001 at a local hospital. Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Dardoise; her sons, Marc Dardoise and Alain Dardoise; and her daughter, Francoise Sullivan; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Memorial service arrangements are incomplete.
