ANDES
Mrs. Annie Rebecca Mauck Andes, of Richmond and longtime resident of Lakewood Manor, died Monday, September 23, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harold A. Andes; a sister, Lillian Varner and husband, Clarence of Spotsylvania; brother, Weldon Mauck of Woodbridge; nephews, Eddie Varner and wife, Vivian and Mike Varner and wife, Sarah; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Andes was born in Falls Church, Va., September 17, 1917 where she worked for the C&P Telephone Company of Washington for 40 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, Arlington - Fairfax Chapter #10 and a life member of VFW Post 7327 Auxiliary of Arlington. She was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, where the family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church parlor. Services will be held at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. On Friday, the family will be receiving friends at the Midland Church of the Brethren, Midland, Va. at 10 a.m., with services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakewood Manor Endowment Fund, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond, Va. 23233.

BAUGHAN
Drury H. Baughan, age 66, died September 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Anne H. Baughan; two daughters, Karen Florence and husband, Mike, Becky Flinchum and husband, Gary of New Castle, Va.; four grandchildren, Ben and Katie Flinchum, George and Mary Kathryn Florence. Mr. Baughan was a world leader and pioneer in the holographic field, which led him to found and operate James River Products for 39 years, and a lifelong devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary U.M.C. Building Fund. The family will receive friends Wednesday (today) 6 to 8 p.m. at The Billups Funeral Home, 25th and Marshall Sts. Services will be held Thursday 1 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 411 East Grace St. Interment private.

BRADBY
Ernest P. Bradby Jr. was born August 10, 1947, and died September 20, 2002. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Tia Bradby and her children, Dashia and David; his mother, Agnes Bradby; one sister, Ella Bradby; two brothers, Robert and Roger Bradby; niece, Chelsey Bradby; nephew, Richard Hampton Jr. (Leomia); a great-nephew, Leland; grandmothers, Margaret Bradby and Mamie Bradby; aunts, Mary Lee (Otto) Brinson, Barbara Bradby of Washington, D.C., Vernell Bradby, Loretta Crawley and Kathleen Carter (Herbert); uncles, Robert and William Bradby (Yvonne); foster sister, Shanika Greene; many cousins, other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Little Elam Baptist Church in Charles City County. Rev. Daniel A. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. BRODD
Keith Elwood Brodd, 70, of Tappahannock, died Monday, September 23, 2002 at his residence. He was a retired assistant engineer for the District of Columbia Government Bridge Division. Mr. Brodd was Past Master of Sterling Masonic Lodge; Past Patron of Herndon Eastern Star Chapter; a Laborer for Christ, 1991 to 1999; member of Habitat for Humanity, 1996 to present; member of Riverside-Tappahannock Hospice and Northern Neck Hospice, 2000 to present; member, head elder and active in the construction of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Maud G. Brodd; two children, Sharon Brodd Keating of Chambersburg, Pa. and Keith Wayne Brodd of Sterling; two brothers, Elton Brodd of Lincoln, Neb. and Ferde Brodd of Lake Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren, William, Daniel and Christopher Keating, Jon-Paul, Nicholas and Joshua Brodd. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, September 27 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, two miles west of Callao on Route 202, with Pastor Michael E. Ramming officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, P.O. BRYANT
Katrina Lynn Bryant, 29, of Farnham, died on Monday, September 23, 2002. Survivors are her mother, Debora B. Israel; stepfather, Paul E. Israel; grandmother, Mary Helen "Kitty" Bryant; brother, J. Patrick Bryant; and niece, Cara Michelle Bryant. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, C.W. Bryant. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 27 at Welch-Marks Funeral Home, Warsaw, with interment in Henderson United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond County Rescue Squad, P.O. CARTER
Robert Welford Carter, 67, of Richmond, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia; and is survived by his nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the P.K.D. Foundation, 4901 Main St., Suite 200, Kansas City, Mo. 64112.

COX
Mrs. Alice B. Cox of Richmond departed this life Tuesday, September 24, 2002. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral notice later.

CURTIS
James Early (Buck) Curtis, 68, a retired mixer for Wonder Bread, passed away peacefully at his residence Friday, September 20, 2002. He was the son of the late Wilbur Curtis and Mary Lockett Jones and was predeceased by his siblings, Charles, Leon and Walter Curtis and Mary Curtis Brailey. He is survived by his sons, James E. Thomas, Shawn C. Williams and Jordan T. Mines; brother, Carl Curtis; sisters, Esther C. Bailey, Aretha C. Jackson and Jeanette C. Woolridge (Robert); granddaughter, Alexis Davenport; devoted niece, Tarsha Threatts; other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, 2700 North Ave., where his family will receive friends Wednesday, 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 1 p.m. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

EGGLESTON
Elizabeth Lucia Eggleston, 2, of Newport News, went to be with the angels on Monday, September 23, 2002. Elizabeth was the daughter of Mark and Pegeen Eggleston. She is also survived by her brother, Derek Steele of Lebanon, Va.; and her sisters, Katherine and Erin Eggleston of the home. The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Family will receive friends between 5:45 and 7 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are being handled by Berceuse Funeral Home, Hampton, Va.

FOSTER
Funeral services for Taurice J. Foster of 4005 North Ave. will be conducted Thursday, 1 p.m. at Love Outreach Ministries, Laburnum and Moss Side Avenues. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Professional services of comfort entrusted to Brunson's Funeral Chapel, 1st and Federal Sts.

FRANKLIN
Audrey Garland Franklin died September 24, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Layton M. Franklin; daughter, Wanda Franklin Packett and her husband, John A. Packett; son, Steven Franklin and his wife, Debra; four grandchildren, Sara Packett, Paul, Morgan and Scott Franklin. She is also survived by two brothers, Edward Garland and his wife, Maxine and James Garland and his wife, Helen; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Franklin was a member of Bon Air United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; Bon Air United Methodist Church, Bon Air, Va. 23235; or Ephesus United Methodist Church, Clarkesville, Va.

LEOPOLD
Dr. Jonathan Porter Aaron Leopold died early Sunday morning, September 22, 2002, with his loving wife Anita at his side in their home in Richmond, Virginia. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 19, 1926, the second son of Dr. Francis David Leopold and Buffalo artist Jean Porter Leopold. He retired in 1996 after a distinguished career of more than 45 years as a physician, public official and educator. Dr. Leopold was nationally recognized for his leadership in the development of community-based care for persons with mental illness and developmental disabilities. He served on Presidential Commissions, national and state Task Forces, and he helped to create national policy and legislation to improve and expand mental health services and programs. Dr. Leopold graduated from Manlius Preparatory School and attended Harvard University before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he resumed his studies at the University of Buffalo and graduated from the School of Medicine in 1951. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. while stationed in El Paso, Texas. In 1954 Dr. Leopold joined his father in the private practice of internal medicine. After a residency in psychiatry in 1958, he began his public career as a staff psychiatrist and later, as Director at Niagara County Mental Health Services. In 1964 he was appointed as the first Commissioner of Mental Health for the State of Vermont and developed the nation's first statewide system of community based mental health services. In 1972 Dr. Leopold was appointed to the faculty of The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and Hygiene in Baltimore, Md. In 1983 he returned to direct patient care serving in hospital settings with the V.A. in New York, Florida and Virginia. Dr. Leopold had a broad range of interests and skills including sailing and yacht racing, music, Morgan horses, politics, art, travel and sports cars. A lifelong sailor and racer, he successfully competed on both the national and international level. During his years in Vermont, he and his family raised Morgan horses and won numerous awards at the both the New England and national level. He is survived by beloved wife, Anita Callahan Leopold; and his children, Jonathan P.A. Jr. and wife, Roxane Leopold, James and wife, Candis Leopold, Christopher and wife, Jennifer Leopold, and Elizabeth Anne Leopold and her partner, Jane Woodruff. Stepchildren include Kenneth and wife, Diane Callahan, Peter Callahan and Patrick Callahan. His brother, David Francis Leopold; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Barbara Sunderland Leopold; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive Dr. Leopold. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 3 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Richmond. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dr. Leopold's memory to Bon Secours Hospice of Richmond, Va. or the University of Buffalo Medical School, Buffalo, N.Y.

LLEWELLYN
Mary Jo Ward Llewellyn, age 80, of Sandston, passed suddenly September 22, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret (Bitsy) Gregory of Charlotte, N.C.; her son, John N. Llewellyn of Richmond; her grandchildren, Capt. Jacob Mong of Fayetteville, N.C., Margaret M. Froitzheim of Lakeland, Fla., Kris Mirman of Charlotte, N.C. and Will Gregory of Raleigh, N.C.; her great-grandchildren, Caleb Froitzheim, Kaelana Mong, Connor Gregory, Caroline, Nathaniel, Madeline and Laura Mirman. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nelson Lewellyn; and also her daughter, Lucy L. Crow. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College and worked in the Richmond area for many years as a personal secretary and most recently as an administrative assistant for the attorney general's office. A memorial service will be held at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Interment private. McCARTY
J.C. McCarty, 61, of Richmond, departed this life Saturday, September 21, 2002. He is survived by two sons, Jason McCarty and Michael McCarty; one daughter, Sheila Hare and husband, Robbie Hare; two grandchildren, Bryan and Kahlyn Hare; and other friends and relatives, including extended family in Georgia and long-time friend and business partner, Angelo Carreras. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and where services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery.

McPEAK
Nellie V. McPeak, 89, of Richmond, died September 22, 2002. Born February 17, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Cennie Alley Hughes. Besides her parents, her husband, Rev. John R. McPeak; two sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Audrey Watson; three sons, Jerry McPeak and wife, Brenda, Donald McPeak, Roger McPeak and wife, Lynn; 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Cryptside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Mausoleum, Bluewell, W.Va. Arrangements by Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, W.Va.

MEYERS
Charles Edward Meyers Sr., 95, of Glen Allen, died September 24, 2002. He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Meyers Jr. and his wife, Evelyn and Vernon Lee Meyers; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances Hall; and brothers-in-law, Benjamin Carl Davis and Kenneth Nelson Davis. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Janea C. Miller, 8 months old, came to us January 3, 2002 and departed this life on September 20, 2002. Janea was a gifted 8 month old child of God. She leaves to cherish her memories a mother, Jannelle C. Miller; aunts, Juaarleen, Kessler, Daisy; grandmother, Joan Clarke; grandfather, Hugh Breustal; godmothers, Liz, Bridgett, Hugueppe; uncles, Ulysses, Jmail, Timothy, Matthias, Stephen, Andrew; six granduncles, three great-aunts and one great-grandmother, other family and friends too numerous to mention.
