Joseph A. (Mojo) Hanvey Sr. departed this life on Saturday, November 3, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bessie Gold Hanvey; and his loving children, Mary C. Hanvey, Wanda S. Lizama, Renee D. Thurston, Oushnee Hanvey, Joseph A. Hanvey Jr. and James A. Hanvey; his loving step-children, Jeanette Waldron and David A. Gold Jr.; his siblings, Dorothy Whitman, Irene Bishop, Patsy Stevens, Marie Madison, Beverly Cleaver, Bernard Hanvey, Raymond Hanvey and Lewis Hanvey; grandchildren, Margaret Hanvey, Crystal Hanvey, Nikki Hanvey, Hunter Thurston and Justin Hanvey; step-grandchildren, Carman A. Gold, Candis A. Gold, Sarah Waldron, D.J. Lizama, Brandy and Christopher Fortner. There will be a private family service to be held on Wednesday, November 7, at graveside. Cremation services provided by K.L. Jordan Funeral Home of Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Incare Hospice Center at the VA Hospital (PAL), 1201 Broad Rock Rd., Richmond, Va. 23249.

HAWKINS
Raymond C. Hawkins, 90, of Richmond, died November 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ruby R. Hawkins; son, Raymond C. Hawkins Jr. and his wife, Barbara; two stepsons, Oland K. Shrewsbury and his wife, Virginia, G. Roger Shrewsbury and his wife, Joan; stepdaughter, Claudine S. Grubbs and her husband, Norman; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He retired from E.I. Dupont after 38 years of employment. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's U.M.C., 4101 Fordham Rd. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

HENDRICK
Elizabeth T. Hendrick departed her life on November 4, 2001, at her home in Richmond. Elizabeth was born in Warrenton, N.C. to William and Annie Talley on April 28, 1912. She was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Hendrick. She was the loving mother of seven devoted children, Walter Sr. (Lousie), Viola (James) Carter, Frances Price, Louise Hendrick, Mildred White, Ollie Sr. "Rock" and Eddie Mack (Judy); 27 grandchildren, among them two devoted granddaughters, Antoinette "Tutti" and Gwendolyn "Bunny"; a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, a host of nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Thursday 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1920 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Dr. Victor L. Davis officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 1920 Fairmount Ave., Richmond, Va. 23223.

Shelia Evon Parrish Hughes, age 42, of Lynhaven Ave., departed this life October 31, 2001. She leaves to cherish her memories husband, Solmon Mayo; two children, Sheena and Stanley Hughes Jr.; one sister, Denise Taylor; three brothers, Cedro Marcelli of Maryland, Anthony and James Parrish of Richmond; one sister-in-law, Doretha Marcelli; three uncles and five aunts; devoted friend, Sidney Fearce; host of other relatives and friends. Departed this life November 4, 2001, Joyce Y. Jasper. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her sons, Travan K. Mrs. Lottie Minor Jones, 77, of Montross died on Sunday, November 4, 2001. Mrs. Jones was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors are her husband of 58 years, Clarence Tayloe Jones Sr.; a son, Clarence Tayloe Jones Jr. of Montross; two daughters, Bonnie Jones Delano of Oldhams and Gwynne Jones Chatham of Montross; a sister, Evelyn DeFrancis of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Tiffany and Kenneth Chatham II. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Minor; and a sister, Irene Dameron. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home, Montross, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening. LANHAM
Mildred H. "Millie" Lanham, 83, of Callao, formerly of Varina, went to be with God Sunday, November 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lewis V. Lanham Sr.; her son, Lewis V. Lanham Jr. and his wife, Ruth; her daughter, Cheryl Hues Putt; five grandchildren, Kevin, Adrianne and Robert Lanham and Christopher and Casey Hues. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Wayne Lanham. Mrs. Lanham was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Callao and the Quinton Oaks Ladies Golf Association. Due to the illness of Mr. Lanham Sr., his son and daughter will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Callao Rescue Squad.

MALLORY
Robert V. Mallory of Richmond departed this life Tuesday, November 6, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sreets. Funeral notice later.

MAY
Mary Louise Robertson May, age 79, of Blackstone, Va., died Monday, November 5, 2001. She was a retired secretary for Dover Air Force Base and E.L. Jones Co., a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Dover, Del. and a member of the D.A.R. She is survived by her husband, Charles S. May; a brother, Hugh O. Robertson; and two sisters, Virginia R. Gunn, both of Blackstone and Pearl R. Ingram of Crewe; several nieces and nephews. Chapel funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 8, at the Hamner-McMillan Funeral Home. Interment to follow in St. Marks Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Marks Cemetery Fund, 3122 Robertsons Road, Blackstone, Va. 23824.

MORSE
Grace M. Morse, 84, of Grand Rapids, Mich., passed away November 5, 2001 at Johnston-Willis Hospital. Services and interment will be at a later date in Grand Rapids, Mich.

OWEN
Mrs. Lora Trent Owen, 83, of South Boston, died November 4, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Harry P. and Susie Wall Trent, and was married to the late Walter Eldridge Owen Sr. Survivors are a son, Walter E. Owen Jr. of Gaylord, Mich.; three sisters, Mary W. Tribble of Pelham, N.C., Verona T. Glass of Richmond, and Gray T. Williamson of Alton; four brothers, Roy Trent of Burkburnette, Texas, Marvis Trent of Halifax, James E. Trent and Page Trent, both of Richmond, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Brooks funeral Home Wednesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with burial in Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery.

PHILLIPS
Helen Elizabeth Phillips, 84, died November 5, 2001, after a short period of declining health. Mrs. Phillips had been a resident of Richmond since 1956, and had only recently moved to North Carolina to be closer to her daughters. She was the wife of the late retired Lt. Cmdr. Bryce Weldon Phillips, USN. She is survived by her son and his wife, Justin and Janine Phillips of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters and their spouses, Anne and George Bowie of Pittsboro, N.C. and Joan and John Boone of Efland, N.C.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Phillips trained in nursing at Mercy Hospital in Watertown, N.Y. and pursued her career at Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. She subsequently worked for American Airlines during the early years of commercial aviation, when flight attendants were required to be registered nurses. A memorial service will be held at Saint Bridget's Church, 6006 Three Chopt Road, Richmond, Va. at 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2001. Interment Thursday, November 8, next to her beloved husband at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

PIWOWARSKI
Joseph C. "Buster" Piwowarski III, 57, of Chesterfield, passed away November 5, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Edith Paige Piwowarski; one son, Joseph C. Piwowarski IV and his wife, Rhonda; one daughter, Cathy P. Handschumacher and her husband, Larry; four grandchildren, Keith and Kevin Fulghum, Elizabeth and Tabitha Piwowarski; two sisters, Rita Bibb and Roberta Turnbell; one aunt, Vernell Warriner; father-in-law, L.A. Traylor; two brothers-in-law and many close realtives and friends, among them a longtime friend, Patrick "Pat" O'Connell. Mr. Piwowarski was a member of the Chester Moose Lodge, 1980 and retired from Reynolds Metals with 32 years of service. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

PRIDDY
Mary Atkins Priddy, 84, of Richmond, widow of S. Vernon Priddy Jr., died Sunday, November 4, 2001. She is survived by her son, S. Vernon Priddy III and his wife, Molly; two grandchildren, Moffett and Sam Priddy; and her sister, Mildred A. Claytor. Mrs. Priddy was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. She had been a volunteer at Chippenham Medical Center for a number of years. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Christopher's School.

PRITCHETT
H. Leon Pritchett, 59, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 5, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Hugh Michael Pritchett and his wife, Sherry, Christopher Greer Pritchett and his wife, Rose and Paul Montie Pritchett and his beloved, Tonya; his mother, Betty Adams Pritchett; sisters, Rosalie Foster and Sue Ann Lear; a brother, Ronald Pritchett; grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, Alex, Kelsey and Kaitlynn Pritchett; and numerous nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

SALINAS
Sigrid Salinas, 32, and her children, Stefan Gabriel Salinas, 13, and Erika Blair Salinas, 11, went to be with the Lord November 2, 2001. They are survived by Sigrid's father, Gabriel Salinas; mother, Joan Salinas; sister, Kathie Salinas Lewis and her husband, Steve Lewis; brother-in-law, Mike Lewis; cousins, Maria Espiritu, Lucho Gutierrez, Vasili Uspensky and Monica Hoyas; great-aunt, Gabriella Takacsy; Stefan's and Erika's sister and brother; Alexandra and Alexander Szilassy Jr.; other family members in Peru, Hungary and Sweden; Sigrid's best friends, Hope Crabbe, Christy Davoud and Lori Dyer and her MCV and VCU professors and colleagues; and the classmates and teachers of Stefan and Erika. A loving daughter, sister, mother, friend and two beautiful children will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. SANDERS
Mr. Clarence Randolph Sanders, 76, of Warsaw, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Warsaw, where he served as vestryman. Member and past president of Richmond Co. Rotary. He had served as a volunteer coach with the Richmond Co. Little League, he was the first manager of Levi Strauss in Warsaw and was a retired mail carrier for Coles Point rural route. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Carden Sanders of Warsaw; two sons, Blanton R. Sanders of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Robert F. Hedelt of Fredericksburg; daughter, Anne Carden Hedelt of Charlottesville; brother, Wharton S. Sanders Jr. of California; three grandchildren, Colter Sanders, Carden and Taylor Hedelt. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, St. John's Episcopal Church, Warsaw. Interment in church cemetery. The Rev. Michael Malone officiating. Family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Welch-Marks Funeral Home, 10300 Richmond Road, Warsaw. Memorials may be made to St. John's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1093, Warsaw, Va. 22572.

SCHAFSTEDDE
John A. Schafstedde, 86, died at his home in Manakin, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irmgard Schafstedde. He is survived by two sisters, Elly Woesthoff of Richmond and Annie Klenke of Osnabruck, Germany; and many nieces and nephews. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Church, 206 N. Belmont Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221 or a favorite charity.

SHAIA
William Harry Shaia M.D., age 80, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, November 4, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Dr. Shaia was born July 22, 1921 in New York, a son of the late Harry and Zachia Shaia. He graduated from the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia. He served as a member of the Public Health Service during World War II. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte and a founding member of the West Charlotte Chapter of the Lions Club. He was also a volunteer physician for the Harding High School football team for many years. Dr. Shaia practiced medicine in Charlotte for over 50 years and was a former chief of staff at Mercy Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Beth Shaia; two sons, William H. Shaia Jr. and his wife, Rose and Michael T. Shaia; two daughters, Mary Helen Bowman and her husband, Bill and Patricia Shaia Raad and her husband, George; two stepsons, Daniel W. Turner and his wife, Debbie and Jeffrey P. Turner; seven grandchildren, Lauren Bowman, Will Bowman, Helen Shaia, Kathryn Shaia, George Raad Jr., Anthony Raad and Alice Ann Radd; four stepgrandchildren, Zack Turner, Brandon Turner, Ashley Turner and Christopher Turner, all of Charlotte; and three brothers, Edward Shaia, Richard Shaia and Harry Shaia Jr., all three of Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Angels Nursery, 418 North Main Street, Belmont, N.C. 28012. There will be a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with Reverend Richard Bellow officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, N.C. 28203.
