DAVENPORT
Margaret Mae Cole Davenport, 83, of Richmond, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Cedarfield. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Chapman Cole and her second husband, Harris Burruss Davenport Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Cole Chappell and Virginia Cole Handy; three grandchildren, Mary Margaret Chappell, William B. Chappell Jr. and J. Cole Handy; and two sons-in-law, W. Bates Chappell and James R. Handy. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, The Society of the Descendants of the Colonial Clergy, The William Byrd Chapter of the DAR, the Board of Retreat Hospital, and The Tuckahoe Woman's Club. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Samaritan Fund at Cedarfield.

DORNEMAN
Geraldine Heller Dorneman, 79, died Friday, June 22, 2001. Mrs. Dorneman retired from Drucker & Falk Real Estate. Survivors include a son, Ross W. Dorneman and his wife, Jo Anne of Midlothian. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6812 River Rd., Newport News, with interment in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 13100 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23602.

FRIEND
Roosevelt H. Friend Sr. of Cheser, Va., departed this life in McGuire Veterans Hospital, Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Alice Virginia Johnson and Catherine Theresha F. Green; four sons, Roosevelt H. Jr., James L., Lawrence O. and Mitchell H. Friend; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sadie F. Mosley and Myrtle F. Moses; two brothers, Earl and Eddie Friend; three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 11 a.m. at Zion Chester AME Zion Church, Chester, Va. Rev. John D. Conwell, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park. After 10 a.m. Tuesday, remains will rest in the above-named church until hour of service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church, Tuesday, 10:30 a.m.

GARLAND
Mary Blackwell Garland, 79, of Kenbridge, Va., departed this life on Thursday, June 21, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Garland. She is survived by her children, James Blackwell and his wife, Clara of Blackstone, Va., Rosa Garland of Kenbridge, and Cynthia Wells and her husband, Maurice of Richmond; one sister, Margaret Jones of Richmond; one brother-in-law, Stanley Garland of Oakland, Calif.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at St. Matthews' Baptist Church Tuesday, June 26, at 2 p.m. Interment in Falls Road Cemetery. Arrangements by S.P. Jones & Son, Kenbridge, Va.

GASKINS
Phillip V. Gaskins Jr. of Richmond, departed this life Thursday, June 21, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother and father, Barbara and Phillip Gaskins Sr.; one sister, Tonya Sandrina Gaskins; one brother, Joshua Gaskins; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Louvenia and John Longshore; paternal grandmother, Mary E. Gaskins; godmother, Janet Smith; a host of aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 1 p.m. from the First Independent Methodist Church, 3050 Midlothian Pike. Rev. Jerry O. Mallory, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.

GREENWOOD
Mr. William Irving (Bill) Greenwood of 1017 Ridge Rd., Vernon Hill, Va., died June 23, 2001 at Danville Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County, Va., on November 10, 1914 and was 86 years old. He was the son of Mr. Willie Henry Greenwood and Mrs. Natalie Croxton Greenwood, and was married first to Evelyn Lacks Greenwood and then to Louise Adams Greenwood. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher, a former president of the Virginia Rural Letter Carriers Association, a former moderator of the Dan River Baptist Association, member of the Woodmen of the World Camp 127, member of the Halifax Masonic Lodge, and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Mr. Greenwood is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carol G. Trejo of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Rev. Dr. William Irving Greenwood Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Mr. Paul Croxton Greenwood of Midlothian; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Dolores W. Reynolds of Danville; four grandchildren, Kevin Greenwood of Chapel Hill, N.C., Emily Greenwood of Winston-Salem, N.C., Paul Brian Greenwood of Raleigh, N.C., and Ann Laney Greenwood Swank of Knoxville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Kenan and Brayden Greenwood of Chapel Hill, N.C. Funeral services for Mr. Greenwood will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with services at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Vernon Hill, Va., with the Rev. Bill Wilkins and the Rev. Dib Mills conducting the service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday, June 25, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the home, 1017 Ridge Rd., Vernon Hill, Va. For memorials, please consider the Mt. HAYDEN
Alice P. Hayden, age 96, of White Stone, Va., died Saturday, June 23, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell S. Hayden and was a resident of White Stone, Va. for thirty-three years. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lively, Va.

HOTT
Ruby Walton Hott, of Richmond, widow of Jesse L. Hott Sr., died Sunday, June 24, 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Linda Beddow; her grandchildren and their spouses, Charles Beddow Jr. and Cindy of Grand Forks, N.D., Dianne B. Crump and Mark of Hanover County and Lisa M. Beddow of Chesterfield County; her four great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cameron Crump and Margaret and Christopher Beddow; her sister and her husband, Frances Vesely and George of Glen Allen; a brother, William Walton of Florida; and her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hott was retired from the American Tobacco Co. Her family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment private. JOHNSON
Katherine F. Johnson of Chesterfield County, died Saturday, June 23, 2001. She would have been 90 on September 30. She was born in Independence, the county seat of Grayson County, the daughter of Mallie and Grover Fender. She was the widow of H. Clen Johnson, who died in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Hugh Grayson Johnson of Algiers, F. Wendell Johnson of Chesterfield County and Grover W. Johnson of Viola, Del.; and two daughters, Carmen Shortt and Mrs. Robert S. Diehl, both of Henrico County. Another son, Donald Stewart Johnson, died in 1981. She is also survived by a sister, Irene Halsey of Independence; and a brother, Ivan Fender of Paxton, Ill. Kay, as she was known to all, had 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. For many years, she belonged to Lakeside United Methodist Church, and since 1961 had been a member of Belmont United Methodist Church. She taught seventh grade at Dumbarton Elementary School in the 1940's. Afterward, she worked for Sears, the Medical College of Virginia and White Trucking Co. In 1973, she retired from the U.S. Government after 20 years as a systems analyst at what was then Richmond Quartermaster Depot. She was a member of Toastmasters International and a registered professional parliamentarian. She was an avid bowler, rolling duckpins at Plaza Bowl and tenpins at Ten Pin Coliseum. One of her last duckpin games earned newspaper mention on May 21; with an average of 98, she rolled a 143 game. The family will receive visitors at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Belmont United Methodist Church, 3510 Broad Rock Blvd. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave.

JONES
Morris Johnson Jones, 68, of Richmond, died June 23, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Janet Knobel Jones; two sons, Stephen Morris Jones and his wife, Theresa and Gary Kevin Jones and his wife, Melissa; three brothers, Roy, Daniel and Thomas Jones; sister, Alma Luck; two grandchildren, Dylan and Cassi. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, after which he attended the University of Richmond, where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. After a short period as an electrical contractor, he went to work for Virginia Power. He retired from there after serving in professional and managerial jobs for 32 years. He was a member, deacon, and elder in the Presbyterian Church. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Memorial Fund, 7343 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228.

JOURNEY
Marie Kilpatrick Journey, 85, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital, following a long illness. Marie was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Journey Jr. and is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-two years, Thomas F. Journey; daughter, Linda Marie Journey; son, William Thomas Journey Sr.; daughter-in-law, Joyce Murphy Journey; grandson, Brian Slade Journey, all of Richmond; great-granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Journey and Brittany Michelle Czahara of Baton Rouge, La.; devoted friend, Doris Coates. Marie was a member of the Alpha Class of Northminster Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

LAWSON
Malcolm Dyer "Ted" Lawson, age 72, departed this life on June 23, 2001. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Tuffy" Lawson. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 15 years, L. Diane Lawson; and his two stepsons, Rodney Bland and Vincent Bland and his wife, Tomika; two brothers, William Foster Lawson (Juanita) of Ivanhoe, Va. and Marion "Popeye" Lawson (Ruby) of Max Meadows, Va.; four sisters, Addie Viar (Carl), Mary Goodman and Ruth Andrews of Pulaski, Va. and Alice Taylor (Pete) of Fries, Va.; four grandchildren, Tiffany Bland, Vincent Bland Jr., Breona Bland and Ahkeem Jones; mother-in-law, Mrs. Caledonia Streat of Petersburg, Va.; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Streat (Dina), Reginald and Gerald Streat of Petersburg, Va.; one goddaughter, Miriam Nelson; and two devoted friends, Sam Dickerson and Christie Hamlin; and a host of other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

LLOYD
Lucy Jane Hunter Lloyd, age 76, widow of John William Lloyd III of Glen Allen, died Friday, June 22, 2001. She is survived by two sons, William H. Lloyd Sr. and his wife, Betsy of Virginia Beach and Mark A. Lloyd and his wife, Martha of Mechanicsville; two daughters, Linda L. Pickels and her husband, James of Richmond and Beverly L. Hale of Glen Allen; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Lee Hunter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mrs. Lloyd was a life long member of Glen Allen Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

LUMSDEN
Heather Dianne Lumsden, age 13, daughter of Roy Wilson and Audrey Sadler Lumsden of Scranton, N.C., and formerly of Richmond, Va., died on June 23, 2001 as a result of an auto accident. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, Scranton Christian Church, Scranton, N.C. Arrangements by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885.

MACKIE
Amelia O. Mackie, born March 23, 1918, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by Alexander J. Mackie, loving husband for fifty-four years. She is survived by her son, John W. Mackie; a granddaughter, Pamela Jennings and her husband, Chris; as well as two other grandchildren. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren. Amelia was a competant legal secretary in the Richmond area until her retirement and was also a long-standing member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel,, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

MALLORY
Dudley Walton Mallory Jr., age 78, life long resident of Richmond, died Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian Friddell Mallory; one daughter, Lynne Hildebrand and husband, James E. Hildebrand; two sons, Dudley W. Mallory III and Ted Carleton Mallory and wife, Amanda, all of Richmond; brother, Jack C. Mallory and wife, Sterling of Mobile, Alabama; five grandchildren, Matthew C. Mallory, Leslie Amanda Mallory, Ashley Elizabeth Herbert, Matthew and Benjamin Hildebrand; aunts, Margaret Carleton and Emma Marchant, all of Richmond. Mr. Mallory was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church, a charter member and former trustee and deacon of Derbyshire Baptist Church and formerly an elder and on the staff at St. Giles' Presbyterian Church. He was a former moderator of the Richmond Baptist Association, former trustee of Averett College, a director and treasurer of the Baptist Ministers Relief Fund of Virginia and former president of the YMCA Business Men's Bible class. He was owner and operated D.W. Mallory Coal and Fuel Oil Company, former president of Richmond Retail Merchants Association, a director of Virginia Fuel Merchants Association, president of Richmond Area T.B. Association, a graduate of the University of Richmond, president of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity, member of ODK and was a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home. 1771 Parham Rd. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Covenant Baptist Church, where a reception will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Pkwy., Bldg. IV, Richmond, Va. 23227 or New Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund.

MARTIN
John Willie Martin, 67, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Katherine D. (Kitty) Martin; two daughters, Sue Martin Hudson of Richmond and Kathy Taylor of Chesterfield; two sons, James Blinkco Martin of Concord, Calif. and John W. Martin Jr. of Chesterfield; his brother, Floyd Martin; his sister, May Ellen Hudson, both of Kenbridge; his son-in-law, Billy Taylor and his grandson, Willie Taylor, both of Chesterfield. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

McABEE
Ruth W. MaAbee of Brodnax, died June 23, 2001. Survived by a daughter, Peggy W. Elmore of Richmond; two brothers, Benjamin Harris of Tarboro, N.C. and Frank Harris of South Hill; two sisters, Cora Rudd and Dorothy Marrow, both of South Hill; four stepgrandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
