ADAMS
Beatrice Norton Adams, 77, of Powhatan, died April 6, 2002. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Patricia and Greg Twiddy of Powhatan; three sisters, Frances Adams of Powhatan, Frankie Lang of Maryland, Beverly Norton of Texas; one grandson, Jerry Ray McInturff of Midlothian; and a son-in-law, Bill Bradley. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Bradley. Graveside services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. in the Powhatan Community Cemetery.

ALLEN
Florence Ella Allen, age 91, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2002. She is survived by two sisters, Elsie A. Tudor and Odelle A. Grizzard, both of Greensville Co.; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Eugene, Clarence, Clayton, Reuben, Willie and Clifton and by two sisters, her twin, Eunice Morriss, and Irene Robinson. Miss Allen requested that her body be donated to science. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Sunday and other times at the home of her niece, Angela Harvey, 5058 Rock Bridge Rd, Skippers, Va. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Greensville Co. Volunteer Rescue Squad or to Calvary Baptist Church.

BLOMQUIST
Harriet Rohner Blomquist, 80, of Gulf Stream, Fla. and Harbor Springs, Mich., passed away on April 4, 2002. Mrs. Blomquist was a decorated ensign who successfully decoded Japanese communication for Pearl Harbor. She was an avid golfer and an accomplished bridge player. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary B. and Beverley Boyden Clary Jr.; four grandchildren, Beverley Boyden Clary III M.D. and his wife, Kathryn, John B. Clary Esq., Charles R. Clary and James A. Clary; two great-grandsons, Harrison M. Clary and Turner A. Clary. Harriet was a loving mother, grandmother, friend to many and was loved by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northstar Academy School, 8055 Shrader Rd., Richmond, Va. or to the charity of your choice. Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach, Fla.

BOWLES
William B. (Woody) Bowles, 33, of Richmond, died April 6, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Judy Bowles; four children, Danielle, Phenix Bowles, John and Haley; his parents, John and Rebecca Bowles; three brothers, Kenny Daniels, Michael and Scotty Bowles; and a sister, Donna Bowles. His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. He will be missed.

BURRUSS
Vivian Baucom Burruss, 64, of Chesterfield, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Johnston-Willis Medical Center. She was born in Raleigh, N.C., daughter of the late Henry Luther Baucom and Bertha Estes Baucom. Mrs. Burruss was a U.S. Postal Service retiree. She was preceded in death by her husband, David A. Burruss Sr.; and one brother, Walter David Baucom. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, David A. Burruss Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Doswell, Archie Wayne Burruss of Charlotte and Bonnie Sue Burruss of Chesterfield; two sisters, Linda Baucom Barnes of Sunbury, N.C. and Bertha Sue Sigmon of Powhatan; a very special sister-in-law, Vergie Baucom Davis; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 at Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa, Va., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Deaconess Lorene C. Carter, 59, departed this life April 6, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Deacon Emanuel Carter; one daughter, Sharon D. Thomas; one son, Andre L. Thomas; one stepdaughter, Valerie Ambres; two stepsons, Devon and Preston Carter; one granddaughter, Deneisha R. Thomas; a host of stepgrandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Sandra D. Thomas; one son-in-law, Carl Taylor; one stepson-in-law, Arthur Ambres; former husband, Clarence Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St., where the family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m. Remains will lie in state Wednesday 12 noon at Rock Hill Baptist Church, 4271 Rock Hill Rd., Mechanicsville, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. Phillip Knight officiating. Burial church cemetery.

CATTERTON
Elijah Davis "Dave" Catterton of Richmond died Saturday, April 6, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4103 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.

DONAHUE
Retired USMC Lieutenant Colonel William F. Donahue of Montpelier died April 6, 2002. He was the widower of Joyce W. Donahue. He is survived by his son, William Edward Donahue; two daughters, Carol Church and Trudy Messie; a brother, Robert Donahue of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Ruth Carpenter of Indianapolis, Ind.; five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Lieutenant Colonel Donahue was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and was decorated with the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit. He was an alumnus of Auburn University and received his master's degree at the University of Tampa. A private graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. EVANKO
William David Evanko, age 47, of Disputania, Va., died Friday, April 5, 2002 from the results of an automobile accident. He was born October 2, 1954 in United, Pa., the son of the late William D. Evanko and Barbara Nelson Evanko of Chester. David was an employee of the City of Hopewell with over 20 years of service. He attended Abundant Life Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Debbie Wyatt Evanko; and two sons, Chris Evanko and Jon Evanko, all of Disputania; a sister, Sandy Cantor of Miami, Fla.; a brother, Mike Evanko of Cumberland, Va.; maternal grandmother, Georgia Nelson of Clifton Forge, Va.; nieces and nephews, Heather Evanko, Heron Cantor, Aaron Cantor and Matthew Cantor. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Gould Chapel, Nelsen Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Chapel by Rev. L.W. Adams with interment to follow in Bethlehem Congregational Church Cemetery, Disputania, Va. GILLIAM
Mrs. Hannah J.G. Gilliam of Richmond, widow of Hercie L. Gilliam, departed this life Friday, April 5, 2002. She is survived by two stepdaughters, Hazel L. Miles and Jewel V. Burrell; three sisters, Esther Miles, Naomi C. Wilson and Rebecca Manuel; two sisters-in-law, Thelma G. Fields and Louise Gilliam; three brothers-in-law, Lewis Gilliam, Carlisle Fields and Henry Manuel; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th & Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10, 12 p.m., Dr. Herbert R. Plummer officiating with Dr. Lawrence A. Wilson assisting. Interment in Riverview Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the funeral home Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Seven Pines Baptist Church. Please omit food.

GOULART
Alice Belle McIntyre Phillips Goulart of Chase City died April 8, 2002. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Phillips and Robert Lipford of Moseley; two grandsons and their wives, R. Warren and Tabatha Lipford, Richard W. and Jennifer Lipford, all of Powhatan; four granddaughters, Samantha, Brittnea, Megan and Ashlyn; and three nephews, Eddie Duffer of Chase City, Jimmie Duffer of Red Oak and Tommy Duffer of Jacksonville, Fla. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Public Fork Christian Church Cemetery.

GRIZZARD
Mrs. Gladys Grabeel Grizzard, 88, of Kenbridge, Va., widow of George Franklin Grizzard, died April 8, 2002. Mrs. Grizzard taught school in Blackstone and also at Victoria Elementary School. She was a member of the Kenbridge Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She is survived by her sons, Edwin W. Horton of Greensboro, N.C. and Robert L. Grizzard of Macon, Ga.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sisters, Gene Grabeel and Virginia Cole, both of Blackstone and Rebecca Moore of Gate City; and her brother, Dr. William Grabeel of Gordonsville. She was also grandmother of the late Edwin Wayne Horton Jr. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11 in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenbridge Baptist Church.

GWALTNEY
Mary D. Gwaltney of Brodnax died April 8, 2002. Survived by her mother, Pattie Jarrett of Clarksville; her daughter, Sheryl Bowen of Chase City; her son, David L. Dulaney of Brodnax; two brothers, Billy Simon of La Crosse and Bobby Simon of Richmond; and five grandsons. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Blanche McGee Hord, 84, of Richmond, widow of Earl Ruffin Hord, died peacefully Sunday, April 7, 2002 at MCV Hospitals after a brief illness. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Patricia H. and Leroy F. Richardson; a grandson and his wife, Thomas F. and Amanda M. Richardson; and a granddaughter, Paige C. Richardson. Mrs. Hord was a retired employee of First & Merchants Bank with 25 years of service and a volunteer at Children's Hospital. She also had a great love of travel. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, 2007 Timberlake Ave., Richmond, Va. 23228.

HUCKSTEP
Ellen Johnson Huckstep of Richmond, the widow of James Edward Huckstep Jr., died on Sunday, April 7, 2002, following a brief illness. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan H. Sheppard and her husband, David of Bon Air, and Julia H. Bumgarner of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, David M. Sheppard Jr., Jarrett Sheppard Stauffer, Garland James Bumgarner and Bradley Ellis Bumgarner. She is also survived by her brother, James Wallace Johnson of Callao, Va.; sisters-in-law, Peggy Evans Johnson and Vivian Huckstep, both of Richmond; and nieces, Linda J. Cummings, Suzanne J. Hanky and Deborah H. Simmons; and nephew, Jay Johnson; and devoted cousin, Mrs. Joyce Partin. Mrs. Huckstep was preceded in death by her son, James E. Huckstep III. Mrs. Huckstep was retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. in Westhampton Memorial Park.

Walter W. "Wallie" Humes, 45, passed away April 6, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Katie Humes and Amanda Strumb; his mother, Frances Humes; his brothers, Jack and Clyde Humes; his sister, Myanna Jaconski and her husband, Mike; a special aunt, Katherine Austin; also four nieces and two great-nieces. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m., where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with burial in Signal Hill Memorial Park. ISMAY
The Reverend R. Robert Ismay, 95, of Tappahannock, died Sunday, April 7, 2002 in Riverside-Tappahannock Hospital. He was a retired Episcopal Priest and a Methodist Minister and Missionary. He was born in Argentina on March 28, 1907 of British parents, Thomas R. Ismay and Isabelle Cameron Ismay. He graduated from Chicago Evangelistic Institute, Syracuse University, Colgate-Rochester Divinity School and Virginia Theological Seminary. He served in churches in New York, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and Argentina through 60 years of ministry. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward T. Ismay, in 1987. Rev. Ismay is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Clark Ismay; two sons, Roderick R. Ismay of Washington, D.C., John A. Ismay of Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Walter Ismay; a sister-in-law, Betty Ismay of Argentina; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002 in St. John's Episcopal Church, Tappahannock. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 336, Tappahannock, Va. 22560. Arrangements by Marks-Bristow Funeral Home.
