Departed this life August 12, 2001, Lloyd D. Harris of Ashland, Va. He is survived by his devoted mother, Margaret Harris; two sisters, Margaret Hobbs and Anna (Edward) Hayes; three aunts, Anna Carter, Elizabeth Hawthorne and Evelyn Wilson; three nieces, six nephews, six great-nephews, one beloved, Jovan Hayes; six great-nieces, one beloved, LaKeshia Hobbs; and a host of other relatives, family, and friends, among them beloved, Frederick and Crystal Green. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Rev. Phillip Adkins, officiating. HARRIS
Mrs. Mary Edmunds Harris of Broadnax died Sunday, August 12, 2001, at Community Memorial Healthcenter. She is survived by two sisters, Nan Edmunds Takacs of New Brunswick, N.J. and Virginia Edmunds Reichert of Wilmington, Del.; and one brother, Arthur H. Edmunds of Harrisonburg, Va.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Thomas N. Harris. Mrs. Harris was a member of Brodnax United Methodist Church and a retired teacher for Brunswick County Schools. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 17, 2001, at 12:30 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home, where the service will follow at 2 p.m in the chapel conducted by Rev. Penny Wilson with interment in Crestview Memorial Park. Condolences may be emailed to farrar@msinets.com.

HAWKINS
Annie Day Hawkins, age 90, of Richmond, widow of George M. Hawkins, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Mildred A. Wiltshire Jr. of Chesterfield; two grandchildren, David Wiltshire and Brenda Brown; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Wiltshire and Brenda Joe Brown. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of First Baptist Church and a former employee of Ben Franklin Printing Co. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

HEARN
Thomas F. Hearn Sr., age 76, of Kerr Place, died Monday, August 14, 2001, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk, Va. and the founder and past president of Hearn Funrniture. Mr. Hearn was a charter member of Wilroy Baptist Church, Suffolk and a member of Smithfield Baptist Church. He was a board member and past president of Flynn Fellowship Home, a board member and past president of the Suffolk Retail Merchants Association, and a member of the Smithfield Kiwanis Club. Mr. Hearn was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in WWII in Saipan and Guam. His parents, John T. Hearn Jr. and Jimmie Askew Hearn; and his wife, Hilda Pierce Hearn, preceded Mr. Hearn in death. Survivors include four sons, Thomas F. Hearn Jr., Smithfield, Craig M. Hearn and his wife, Nancy, Newport News, Stephen M. Hearn and his wife, Carrie, Windsor, Charles G. Hearn and his wife, Denise, Suffolk; sister, Ina Claire Doane and her husband, Bruce, Rockford, Mich.; six grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Allison, Corey, April, Craig Jr., Lydia and Cole; great-grandson, Lane. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 17, 2001, at 11 a.m., in Smithfield Baptist Church, with Dr. Donald Rhoton and Rev. Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 16, from 7 to 8 p.m., in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Isle of Wright Chapter, c/o Lois R. Little, P.O. Box 659, Smithfield, Va. 23431-0659 or Wilroy Baptist Church Building Fund, 306 Williams Rd., Suffolk, Va. 23234. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.

HOFFMANN
Margaret Smith Hoffmann passed away August 14, 2001 in a Norfolk hospital in the presence of her husband of 56 years, Joseph W. Hoffmann and their five children. Margaret was a 1943 graduate of John Marshall High School and Fairfax Hall Junior College. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brother, George B. Smith; and her sister, Dorothy Ann Bleiweiss of Richmond. Margaret was a long-time resident of Norfolk, Va., and her funeral will be held at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Norfolk at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2001. Arrangements by H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk.

HOLMES
Randy Joe Holmes, 41, of Chesterfield, passed away August 14, 2001. He is survived by his three children, Kimberly, Steven and Erin Holmes; his parents, Faye and Robert Carter; two brothers, Dickie W. Forte and Charles M. Holmes. A great man, loving son and father. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

HORTON
Tee B. Horton of 613 Fayette Ave. died August 13, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Bryant and Berlyenn (Robert) Poe of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three sons, Benjamin, Ronald (Sandra) and Donald Horton; four grandsons, Thomas M. (Laverne) Bryant, Benjamin Horton Jr., Ronald Horton Jr. and Steven Poe; five granddaughters, Tiffany (Keith) Johnson, Katrina Jackson, Sakeitha Horton, Genna and Jennifer Poe; four great-grandsons, two sisters, two brothers, a host of nieces and nephews; two devoted nephews, Jake Cooper and Johnnie Agee; other relatives and friends; one devoted friend, Lisa Barnett. Remains rest at the Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Pk. Blvd., where funeral services will be held Friday at 12 noon, Rev. E. Walter Anderson officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

JEFFERSON
Mr. Samuel Lee Jefferson of Richmond passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 14, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percell Sr. and Margaret Jefferson. He is survived by two daughters, Regina and Shehan Harris; three sisters, Alice Marrow, Mary Armstead and Karon Williams; three brothers, Percell Jr. and wife, Charlene, Loynell Jefferson and Vance Williams; two aunts, devoted Sarah Williams and Florine McQuinn; nieces, nephews, devoted Percell III and Angela Jefferson, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 'N' St., where funeral services will be held Friday, August 17 at 1 p.m. Dr. Morris Henderson officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the chapel at 12:30 p.m.

JOHNSON
Nell Maxim Johnson, 69, of Sandston, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral notice later.

JOHNSON
Graveside services for Samuel J. Johnson, who departed this life on August 13, 2001, will be conducted at Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Ronald C. Taylor Sr. officiating. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Family and friends kindly assemble at the funeral home 1:15 p.m.

KEANE
Lois Herz Keane, widow of Walter J. Keane, age 99, of Bon Air, died Friday, August 3, 2001. A memorial service for the late Mrs. Keane will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18 at Saint Edward-Epiphany Church at 10701 West Huguenot Road.

McGEHEE
Joseph S. McGehee, age 86, of Richmond, widower of Olive W. McGehee, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara M. Reynolds and her husband, Matthew, Sandra M. Barnes; two granddaughters, Leann Owings and Shannon Reynolds; two grandsons, Shaun Reynolds and Michael Barnes; one great-grandson, Benjamin T. Owings III; also several nieces and nephews. Mr. McGehee was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurace Co. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Joe J. Moody of Chesterfield, Va. departed this life suddenly Thursday, August 9, 2001. He is survived by his children, Michael, Michelle and Myles Moody; mother, Mrs. Annie Greene Moody; father, Joe J. Jones; brother, Michael Moody; four sisters, Annette Elthomi of Queensbury, N.Y., Lisa Goodson, Yvonne and Pamela Moody of Richmond, Va.; four aunts, three uncles, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. She is survived by her children, Michael, Michelle and Myles Moody; parents, Deacon and Mother Leroy Jefferson Sr.; brother, Elder Leroy Jefferson Jr.; sisters, Myra Moran and Myrna Washington; a host of nieces and nephews, seven aunts, one uncle, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Andrew James Oates, 64, of Goochland, died August 14, 2001, at his home. He was born in Jackson County, N.C. He was the son of Mrs. Madie Franks Oates of Supply, N.C. and the late Clint Oates. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Robertson Oates of Goochland; his daughter, Debra Blackwell of Chester, Va.; grandson, Jason Blackwell of Chester, Va.; a sister, Shelba Thornton and husband, Charles of Supply, N.C.; two brothers, Johnny Oates and wife, Gloria of Matoaca, Va. and Eddy Oates and wife, Mary Ruth of Luray, Va. Mr. Oates was supervisor for the Department of Correction C.C.U., Powhatan, Va. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Robertson Family Cemetery, Nelson County. The family will receive friends Thursday night at Dunkum Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Family and friends please meet at the funeral home at 12 noon Friday. Dunkum Funeral Home of Dillwyn is in charge of services.

Carson; three grandchildren, Tanesha and Natasha Johnson and Samira Carson; two sisters, Mary Phenola Green and Janice Queen; one brother, Elder Wendell Green; several nieces, nephews, among them Darrin and Linwood; and several cousins, among them, Mary Nash and family; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and other relatives and friends, among them, close friends, Hazel Dockery, Spencer Jones and Ruby Jones; and godson, Bobby Hall Jr. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday. Departed this life August 14, 2001, Bernard C. Pleasant of 1507 Kansas Ave. He is survived by his wife, Gertie R. Pleasant; five daughters, five sons, 36 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where memorial services will be held Friday, 4 p.m.

Helen Patricia Rockhill Purvis. 71. of Richmond, Va., passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2001 after a brief illness. She is survived by her loving children, Kathryn, Helen and Thomas; her sister, Mary Lou Lodor and her husband, Sam of Greensboro, N.C.; and many devoted friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2 p.m. at Unity Christ Church of Bon Air, 923 Buford Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Hospice Foundation.
