Dorothy "Ellen" M. Houston, age 96, departed this life Saturday, March 17, 2001. Widow of Broaddre H. Houston, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice H. and Winston R. Toler; granddaughter and husband, Jill T. and Alan T. Houston; her sister, Roberta M. Sullivan of Charlottesville. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Washington Memorial Park.

HUGHES
Marie Kelleher Hughes, 95, widow of John Joseph Hughes died March 17, 2001. She is survived by two daughers, Margaret Arnette Hotze and her husband, Wilson and Mary Ellen Marchetti; two sons, John Joseph Hughes Jr. and his wife, Joyce and Daniel Lawrence Hughes and his wife, Doris; her sister, Eileen McNally; her brother, Joseph Michael Kelleher and his wife, Marie; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict's Catholic Church or St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.

Rosemarie V. Hurley, age 64, of Amelia, died on March 17, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Hurley Jr., and is survived by her son, Edward T. Hurley III of Boston, Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Edwards Catholic Church on Huguenot Rd., with interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Viewing prior to the Mass from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. KEITH
Daniel Eugene Keith, 75, of Richmond, died March 18, 2001. Mr. Keith was a retired employee in the Department of Rates and Quotations of CSX Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Miriam Sarafian Keith of the home; son, Daniel E. Keith Jr. and his daughter, Kim of Newport News; daughter, Lynda Pleasants and her children, Rick and Kimberley of Richmond; and Rick's wife, Jennifer; stepsons, Donnie Clodfelter of Lawrenceville and David Clodfelter of Clifton, Va. and David's children, Kirsten, Sydney and Sammi; and stepdaughter, Karen Colley and husband, Wayne of Richmond and their children, Brian and Erik; brother, Emory Keith of East Ridge, Tenn.; sister, Nancy Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and mother-in-law, Alma Sarafian of Richmond. Mr. Keith was born at Henager on Sand Mountain, Ala. and attended Jacksonville State Teachers College, where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball and baseball. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After returning to college, he was hired by the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball club and played with several teams in their farm system before entering business and eventually working for the railroad in Newport News and Richmond. Mr. Keith was a member of Skipwith Baptist Church, Richmond, where a memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary at 1900 Skipwith Road, Richmond, VA. 23229. The family will receive guests in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Skipwith Baptist Church Endowment Fund or to the charity of your choice.

LANKEY
Kenneth E. Lankey Sr., 76, of Richmond, died March 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Perkins Lankey; sons, Kenneth E. Lankey Jr. and Douglas N. Lankey; brother, Donald F. Lankey; grandchildren, Becky, Ellen, Kerin, Justin, Ashley and Trey Lankey. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment Branch's Baptist Church Cemetery. LIVELY
Raymond Lee Lively, died Sunday, March 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Margaret D. Lively; three children, Thomas Lee Lively, Jeffrey Alan Lively, and Mary Elizabeth L. Ivanhoe; and preceded in death by one son, Philip Charles Lively. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Zachary F. Lively, Erin L. Dunn and Philip S. Ivanhoe. Mr. Lively retired from Investor's Diversified Services, Inc. after 28 years of service. He also was a combat veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He retired from military service as a Lt. Col. in the Army Reserve. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 4819 Monument Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Salvation Army or the Church of the Holy Comforter Foundation.

LUNTSFORD
Dudley James Luntsford III, 59, passed away on March 17, 2001 in Nassau Bay, Texas. Dudley was born November 19, 1941 in Richmond to Dudley and Jane Luntsford Jr. Dudley was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and received a bachelor degree from the University of Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Cathy J. Edwards, Christina V. Kothe and Aswita Tan; sons, James L. Luntsford and Dudley L. Luntsford; sister, Sharon S. Rice; and three grandchildren. McCANDLISH
Winchester lawyer, Charles S. McCandlish, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his residence after a long bout with cancer. He was fifty-two years old. Mr. McCandlish was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. McCandlish Jr. in Alexandria, Va. and was a grandson of the late Judge and Mrs. Frank Taylor Sutton Jr. of Richmond, Va. He grew up in Fairfax and was graduated from The Episcopal High School in Alexandria and from Princeton University with a degree in English. He then served for three years in the United States Naval Reserve, stationed aboard the attack aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Constellation in San Diego. During two cruises to the Western Pacific on the Constellation, he was the ship's public affairs officer. He served in the same capacity for the commander of carrier forces in the Gulf of Tonkin. Discharged with the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.), he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School. Mr. McCandlish worked for three years in Richmond with the Hunton & Williams law firm. While in Richmond, he was a member of the Sons of the Revolution and the Richmond Civil War Round Table. In 1979, he moved to Winchester and practiced law there for twenty-one years, most recently with the Harrison and Johnston law firm. Mr. McCandlish was elected to the Winchester City Council and served for one term. After he retired from the City Council, he was appointed by it to serve as Chairman of the Committee on Quality of Life in the regional governmental study "Vision 2020." He was further appointed by Council to the Winchester School Board, which he served for six years as a member and ultimately chairman. He was then appointed by Council to serve on the Handley Board of Trustees, administering the trust funds left to the City by Judge John Handley. He was interested in the outdoors and in conservation, and served for several years as officer and board member of the Virginia Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. He was also a board member and president of the friends (now the Foundation) of the Virginia State Arboretum at Blandy Farm. Mr. McCandlish served for several years as adjunct professor of business law at Lord Fairfax Community College and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Shenandoah Valley Manufacturer's Association. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester, serving as usher; as chairman of the Pastoral Care Commission; and as a regular participant and occasional lecturer in the church's adult education program. He was a seven-gallon blood donor. His past board service included the Winchester Regional Airport Commission; Lord Fairfax Health Services Advisory Board; Northwestern Community Services: Kids Are Our Concern; Shalom et Benedictus; Friends of the Handley Library; and the Winchester-Frederick County Jaycees. Mr. McCandlish was a member and past president of the Winchester Torch Club; a member of the Winchester Exchange Club and the A.M. Exchange Club of Winchester; and a member of the Winchester Country Club. He was a member of the Boyd Graves Conference, a bipartisan council of lawyers established by the late, Thomas V. Monahan, also of Winchester, for the improvement of legal services in Virginia. He was a member of the Virginia State Bar, serving on its Public Information Committee; the Virginia Bar Association, participating as a member of the Judicial Selection Committee and the Committee on the Judiciary; and the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association, serving recently as its president. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Williams Smith; his mother, Mrs. Robert J. McCandlish; and two children, Robert John McCandlish and Caroline Nash McCandlish, all of Winchester; and by a sister, Mrs. L.L. Burckmyer of Marblehead, Mass. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Douglas McCaleb, officiating. Arrangements are by Omps Funeral Home of Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 114 W. Boscawen St., Winchester, Va. 22601; Blue Ridge Hospice, Inc., 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, Va. 22601; or the Handley Regional Library (Funds for Books), 34 N. Loudoun St., Winchester, Va. 22601.

McCORMICK
Miriam L. McCormick, 89, of Richmond, died Saturday, March 17, 2001. She was the widow of Raymond D. McCormick and was preceded in death by her son, Raymond S. McCormick; and two brothers, Joseph D. Lynch Jr. and Valentine D. Lynch. She is survived by two sons, William K. McCormick and his wife, Jeanne and J. Burke McCormick and his wife, Sallie; her daughter-in-law, Stephenie D. McCormick; her brother, Col. John M. Lynch; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a Christian wake at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 12 noon Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will take place Saturday at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, N.Y.

McDONOUGH
Frank A. McDonough Sr., 73, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice McDonough. He is survived by his sons, Michael D. and Frank A. McDonough Jr.; daughters, Brenda Richards and Linda King; his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment to follow at 3 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va.

MOORE
Gretchen Jones Moore, 46, of Mechanicsville, passed away March 17, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Terry E. Moore; two stepsons, Brian and Michael Moore; one sister, Joyce Chase Rickman; two brothers, James S. IV and Gregory W. Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and James (Stanley) Jones III of Dunnsville. Mrs. Moore graduated in 1973 from Highland Springs High School and was a member of the Alumni Association. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment private. MORGAN
Mary T. Morgan, age 80, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 18, 2001. Mrs. Morgan was born in Norfolk to the late John W. and Helen W. Timberlake Sr. She was the widow of the late Harvey E. Hutchinson Jr. and John Allen Morgan. Mary was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Old Dominion Chapter 100 O.E.S., where she served as Worthy Matron from 1976 to 1977 and later as Grand Representative for the State of Virginia to Indiana. During her lifetime, she served as president of the PTA and as a volunteer at DePaul Hospital. She will be loved and missed by all and remembered as a kind, loving and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her brother, John W. Timberlake Jr.; and a sister, Flossie Driskill. She is survived by two sons, Harvey E. Hutchinson III of Monroe, Va., and John A Morgan Jr. of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Harvey E. Hutchinson IV, Eric A. Hutchinson, Sarah E. Morgan, Robert L. Prodan II, Elizabeth Antonick and John P. Prodan; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services conducted by the Reverends Timothy B. Kirby Sr. and Donald Ambrose will be held Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery, with Eastern Star Rites. PATTERSON
Departed this life March 15, 2001, Ms. Eloise Mae Patterson of 331 Norcroft Circle, formerly of 1213-A Nelson St. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard C. Davis. Left to cherish her memory are two children, her daughter, Jacqueline E. Logan and her son, Conrad A. Patterson; her devoted mother, Lucille M. Davis; three grandchildren, Alonzo Derricott, Danielle Logan and Saveya McFarland; two sisters, Edna Deloris Spears and Brenda Lee; two brothers, Linwood Davis Jr. and Jerry Davis Karim; a host of nieces and nephews, one great-niece; a devoted cousin, Melvin Leroy Patterson; a son-in-law, Darryl B. Logan; two brothers-in-law, Robert L. Spears Jr. and Ronald M. Lee; a host of other relatives and friends, among them one devoted, Carolyn Taylor. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. Rev. Sylvester T. Smith officiating. Eulogy by Rev. Hartwell Macon Sr. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

RAPALEE
Shirley Bowman Rapalee, 65, of Chesterfield, died Saturday, March 17, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Ralph R. Bowman and Essie C. Moss. She was retired from the Chesterfield County School System where she served 37 years at the Library of Thomas Dale High School. She was also a member of Piedmont Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Michael R. Rapalee and his wife, Janet, and Mark E. Rapalee and his wife, April; three granddaughters, Rhiannon, Brandi, and Casey Rapalee; and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Mary J. Rivers, of 2911 Fendall Ave., entered eternal rest March 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Rivers. Cherishing her memories are three daughters, Harriet and Pam Rivers and Cecelia Pridgen; one son, Keith Rivers; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters, one brother.
