GRUBBS
Louise Earline Olmstead Grubbs, 70, of Richmond, died Monday, June 25, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Leo Earl and Ruth Wilson Grubbs and widow of Herbert Afton Grubbs. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie Earl and Linda Grubbs; daughter, Cynthia Grubbs Carter; granddaughter, Kristy Nicole Grubbs; stepgranddaughter, Dana L. Price; brothers, Leo Earl Olmstead Jr. and Robert Frederick Olmstead; sisters, Vivian Olmstead Shoaf and Carolyn Olmstead Little. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Grubbs had been a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for four years. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, 2007 Timberlake Ave., Richmond, Va. 23228.

HARRIS
Evelyn Joanne (Jo) Harris, 61, formerly of Suffolk, Va., of Glen Allen and Urbanna, Va., departed this life at home on June 24, 2001. Cherishing her memory is her devoted partner of 35 years, Patricia Jones; a beloved family of friends; a brother, Thomas L. Harris of Arvonia; three nieces, and two nephews. Jo graduate with a B.S. from R.P.I. She excelled in all sports, playing softball, basketball, and tennis while in college. She later played softball and basketball with the Richmond Pollyanna's and coached various women's softball and basketball teams in the Richmond area. She was a swimming and diving instructor in Chesapeake and Richmond, Va. She was a licensed optician and certified contact lens specialist in Va. and N.C. She owned and operated Commonwealth Contact Lens and Optical Consultants. She was a master gardener and an active volunteer for the Hanover Master Gardeners. Jo was an avid fisherwoman and a long time member of the Different Drummers Surf Fishing Team who fished in tournaments in Nags Head and Ocacroke, N.C. When not fishing she acted as a judge for tournaments in the Outer Banks of N.C. She was a lifetime member of the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association, Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, various animal rights groups, and the N.R.A. She will be missed today, tomorrow, and always. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) of Richmond on Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MCC Building Fund, 2501 Park Ave., Richmond, Va. 23220.

HAWLEY
Christopher Michael Hawley, age 29, of Newport News, Va., died Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Newton and Lucy Baldwin, Richmond, Va.; his brother and sister-in-law and their daughter, John Ashby, Gwendolyn and MacKenzie Leigh Hawley; and his grandmother, Virginia Blake Blackwell of Wicomico Church, Va.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., where the family will receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment Clifton Ridge Cemetery, Kilmarnock, Va.

HENDERSON
Mrs. Ora Lee Henderson of 2105 Fairfax Ave., departed this life Saturday, June 23, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Henderson and son, Tony Henderson. She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Wilson E. Barnes of Tallahassee, Fla., Linwood H. Barnes of Philadelphia, Pa. and Benjamin E. Barnes of Richmond, Va.; two devoted daughters, Anne Marie Roberson and Yvonne Henderson of Richmond, Va.; five granddaughters, one devoted, Terri Lynette Williams, Rose Marie Roberson, Kimberly Faith Barnes, Kay Lynette Barnes and Reeshida DeEtte Roberson; two grandsons, Tavarous Linwood Henderson and Nicholas Elliott Henderson; one devoted son-in-law, Joseph Roberson; two daughters-in-law, one devoted, Barbara A. Barnes and Rhonda Hockett Henderson; four brothers, James Madison, Irvin and Daniel Chavis of Richmond, Va. and Edward Chavis of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Olivia Lopez and Bernetha McCoy of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Minnie Chavis of Midlothian, Va.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 1 p.m. Rev. R. Alexander Chavis, officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending services, assemble at the funeral home, Wednesday, 12:30 p.m.

HERNDON
Norman G. Herndon, 76, of Arvonia, died June 24, 2001. He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Marks of Goochland; two sons, John Herndon of Richmond and Robert Douglas Herndon of Colorado; one brother, one sister and four grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.

HICKS
Nadine Starkey Hicks, 81, of Moorehead City, N.C., formerly of Henrico, passed on to a better life Saturday, June 23, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Hicks; and her youngest son, Steven Hicks and is survived by her sons, Albert Hicks of Richmond and Curtis Hicks and his wife, Diane of Moorehead City; three grandsons, David, Michael and Steven Hicks; two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She was an active member of the Third Christian and Seventh Street Christian Churches for many years. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

HOLLAND
Mrs. Linda B. Holland, 58, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sunday, June 24, 2001. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Reeves, Midlothian, Va. Visitation Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m., Highland Funeral Service, Fayetteville. Funeral services to be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 407 Ray Avenue, Suite 200, Fayetteville, N.C. 28301 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 5301 Morganton Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28314.

HOTT
Ruby Walton Hott, of Richmond, widow of Jesse L. Hott Sr., died Sunday, June 24, 2001. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Linda Beddow; her grandchildren and their spouses, Charles Beddow Jr. and Cindy of Grand Forks, N.D., Dianne B. Crump and Mark of Hanover County and Lisa M. Beddow of Chesterfield County; her four great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cameron Crump and Margaret and Christopher Beddow; her sister and her husband, Frances Vesely and George of Glen Allen; a brother, William Walton of Florida; and her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hott was retired from the American Tobacco Co. Her family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment private. HUNN
Samuel M. Hunn Jr., 60, of Richmond, died June 25, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Schrader Hunn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Samuel Gromovsky of Richmond and Jerri Anne and Steven Smith of Aylett; three grandchildren, Jacob and Kara Gromovsky and Connor Smith; a sister, Mrs. Frances Mills and her husband, John of Hagertown, Md. Sam was an air conditioning mechanic and taught his trade at the Richmond Technical Center and was a member of Union Local No.10 and a member of the Urbanna Creek Yacht Club. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. where services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Hospital, 2924 Brook Rd., Richmond, Va. 23220. Donate blood at Virginia Blood Services, 2201 Westwood Ave, Richmond, or your favorite charity.

JOHNSON
Katherine F. Johnson of Chesterfield County, died Saturday, June 23, 2001. She would have been 90 on September 30. She was born in Independence, the county seat of Grayson County, the daughter of Mallie and Grover Fender. She was the widow of H. Clen Johnson, who died in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Hugh Grayson Johnson of Algiers, F. Wendell Johnson of Chesterfield County and Grover W. Johnson of Viola, Del.; and two daughters, Carmen Shortt and Mrs. Robert S. Diehl, both of Henrico County. Another son, Donald Stewart Johnson, died in 1981. She is also survived by a sister, Irene Halsey of Independence; and a brother, Ivan Fender of Paxton, Ill. Kay, as she was known to all, had 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. For many years, she belonged to Lakeside United Methodist Church, and since 1961 had been a member of Belmont United Methodist Church. She taught seventh grade at Dumbarton Elementary School in the 1940's. Afterward, she worked for Sears, the Medical College of Virginia and White Trucking Co. In 1973, she retired from the U.S. Government after 20 years as a systems analyst at what was then Richmond Quartermaster Depot. She was a member of Toastmasters International and a registered professional parliamentarian. She was an avid bowler, rolling duckpins at Plaza Bowl and tenpins at Ten Pin Coliseum. One of her last duckpin games earned newspaper mention on May 21; with an average of 98, she rolled a 143 game. The family will receive visitors at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Belmont United Methodist Church, 3510 Broad Rock Blvd. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave.

KELLY
Quinsaun K. Kelly of 3920 Decatur St., departed this life Saturday, June 23, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Monique Colley, Steven Jones and Arthur Colley; three sisters, Majestic Praise Colley, Shaniqua and Stephanie Jones; two brothers, Tayron and Arthur Colley Jr.; grandparents, Saundra Kelly and Louise Jones; several aunts and uncles, several cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 11 a.m. Pastor Janice Best, officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the funeral home, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.

KLING
Catherine Louise Stone Kling, age 92, of Clifton Forge, died Friday, June 22, 2001. Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday from St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment in the Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements by Nicely Funeral Home.

LANCASTER
Walter N. Lancaster, 77, of Richmond, Va., died June 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Lancaster; daughter, Jo Lawlor and her husband, John of Richmond; son, Steve Lancaster and his wife, Dianne of Richmond; sister, Willie Lee Harrel of Owensboro, Ky., four grandchildren, Angela and Andrew Lancaster, Kevin Lawlor and Michael Snider. Mr. Lancaster was retired from the English Construction Company, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in civil engineering. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

LINTON
Margaret Marion Clark Linton, of Aylett, daughter of Helen Babyak Clark and George Taylor Clark, died June 22, 2001. Born at Whitehall on June 30, 1927, Mrs. Linton was reared in Aylett and graduated from King William High School. A graduate of Madison College (now JMU) in Harrisonburg, Va., she completed graduate studies at VCU and the University of Maryland. Mrs. Linton taught in King and Queen County and Highland Springs High School in Henrico County. She was one of the founding members and was active in the Alliance to Save the Mattaponi River from the destruction of a proposed reservoir in King William, a past member of the board of directors of Rappahannock Community College and chairman of the Industrial Development Committee for King & Queen County. An artist and musician, Mrs. Linton was organist at St. David's Church in Aylett and Mizpah Church in Walkerton and past president of Lee Artists Association and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Millers Tavern. She was predeceased by a brother, George Addison Clark. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Margaret Temple Plater Linton and Ms. Helen Larkin Lewis Linton. Memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Millers Tavern, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alliance to Save the Mattaponi, P.O. Box 150, Mattaponi, Va. 23110.

LONG
Gay T. Long departed this life suddenly on June 22, 2001 at 6110 Phelps St., Glen Allen, Va. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Latney J. Long; two daughters, Melanie L. and Crystal D. Long, both of Richmond, Va.; one son, Terry O. Long of Baltimore, Md.; five granddaughters, Jovan, Qourtnee, Bria, Sierra and Kori Long; mother-in-law, Maude H. Long of St. Stephen's Church, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Lisa J. Long of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loyal friends. Her remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. LUTTRELL
Alfred Winston Luttrell, 73, of Farnham, died on Sunday, June 24, 2001. Mr. Luttrell was the widower of Paralee Luttrell, a retired bookkeeper for Douglas Well Drilling and a member of the VFW Post No. 7167. Survivors are his two sisters, Florence Pietrzyk of Apopka, Fla. and Morsey Rivera of Farnham; two nephews, Kenneth Luttrell and Steven Luttrell. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at the Welch-Marks Funeral Home, Warsaw at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richmond County Rescue Squad, P.O. MACKIE
Amelia O. Mackie, born March 23, 1918, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by Alexander J. Mackie, loving husband for 54 years. She is survived by her son, John W. Mackie; a granddaughter, Pamela Jennings and her husband, Chris; as well as two other grandchildren. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren. Amelia was a competant legal secretary in the Richmond area until her retirement and was also a long-standing member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel,, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

MATHEWS
Charles L. Mathews Sr., 79. of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy W. Mathews; two sons, Ronald E. Mathews Sr. of Columbia, S.C. and C. Lynn Mathews Jr. of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, a great-grandson; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Robertson and Gladys Mathews of Mechanicsville. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mechanicsville chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee David Rd. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gethsemane Church of Christ. Departed this life June 21, 2001, Mrs. Anne Little McRae of 14 E. 37th Street. She is survived by five daughters, Stephanie Little, Sarah Tyler and Faye, Angela and Rocqual McRae; three sons, Lil' James, Darrel and Erick McRae; 18 grandchildren; father, Lamont Little; three aunts, one uncle; several nieces, and nephews, among them three devoted, Cleola Parnell, Alice Bethea and Andrea Thomas; a host of cousins, among them devoted, Mary Bethea and Hunter Johnson; one daughter-in-law; one son-in-law, Juan Johnson; one sister-in-law, Jessie Little; and other relatives and friends; among them devoted, Mary Melton and Jean Allen. She was loved by all of her in-laws. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Alice Wallace officiating. Interment Spears United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bennettsville, South Carolina. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
