James W. Compton
The funeral for James W. Compton, 86, of Martinsville, who died Nov. 28, 2005, was held Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with the Rev. Betty Marshall officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Jason Chaney, Donnie Ray Chaney, Roger Pearman, Orean Byrd, Wayne Byrd and J.C. Compton.

Thelma K. Dillon
The funeral for Thelma Koger Dillon, 88, of Bassett, who died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at the Blue Ridge Rehab in Stuart, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel. The Rev. Carson Williams and Daryl B. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Koger family cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1917, to John Henry Koger and Sarah Gillispie Koger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Alvin Dillon; two brothers, Demus Koger and John Koger; and four sisters, Annie Tuggle, Sally Fretwell, Ada Stone and Mildred Tuggle.
She was a charter member of Community Baptist Church and worked at the former Jobbers Pants Factory.
Surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Carol L. Draper
Carol Linderson Draper, 78, of 409 Oakdale St., Martinsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in New Bedford, Mass. on June 26, 1927, to Carl A. Linderson and Gladys Smith Linderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Draper Jr.; and a sister, Betty L. Stewart.
She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga. and retired as a trust officer at Crestar Bank in 1989, where she worked for 42 years.
She was a former member of the Altrusa Club, the Martinsville High School Booster Club and Band Booster Club, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville.
Surviving are a daughter, Laura Beth D. Eanes of Martinsville; a son, Kenneth S. Draper of Martinsville; a brother, Carl A. Linderson Jr. of Lake Worth, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Mike Hatfield and the Rev. Randall Stevens officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services.

Edda O. France
PETERSBURG -- Edda Otis France, 90, of 457 Byrne St., Petersburg, and formerly of Martinsville, died Nov. 28, 2005, at Southside Regional Medical Hospital in Petersburg.
He was born in Mt. Airy, N.C. on July 6, 1915, to Joseph France and Ida Mae France. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Hodges France.
He was a World War II veteran and retired security guard at Virginia Mirror Co. He was first a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and later a member of Zion Christian Church.
Surviving are five daughters, Dorothy France Davis of Baltimore, Md., Gloria F. Johnson and Shirley F. Wooten, both of Martinsville, Juanita F. Martin of Atlanta, Ga. and Brenda F. France of Seattle, Wash.; five sons, Otis France of Oxon Hill, Md., Joseph France of Petersburg, Jerry France of Fountain, Colo., John France of Martinsville and Maj. Larry France of Fort McPherson, Ga.; a brother, Lee France of Salem; a sister, Carrie F. Hill of Salem; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thurman O. Echols Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Friends will be received for one half hour before the funeral at the church and other times at the home of a daughter, Gloria F. Johnson, 8 Providence Court, Martinsville.
Arrangements are by Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home.

Lois K. Goforth
Lois Kapral Goforth, 64, of 310 Armstead Ave., Martinsville, and formerly of Middletown, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born on March 31, 1941, in Corning, N.Y., to George Kapral and Elizabeth Kapral.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Hairston of Martinsville and Eileen Cooper of Middletown, Pa.; three bothers, Stephen Kapral, Daniel "Danny" Kapral and David Kapral; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Church at Mercy Crossing in Ridgeway with the Revs. Jackie Poe and Allan Preston officiating.
Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.

Ernest L. Kendrick Sr.
Ernest Lee Kendrick Sr., 87, of 105 Azalea St., Stanleytown, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1918, to Harrison Kendrick and Dealia Pendleton Kendrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard Kendrick and Willie Kendrick.
He retired from Stanley Furniture, then worked at Winn Dixie for 19 years. Kendrick was named to the Henry County Bowling Association Hall of Fame and was a life member of the Stanleytown Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth Kendrick; a daughter, Mary Lou Collins of Bassett; two sons, Donald Wayne Kendrick of Stanleytown and Ernest Lee Kendrick Jr. of Martinsville; a sister, Lula Mae Landreth of Madison, N.C.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Henry Memorial Park. Donald Kendrick and Tim Canupp will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Community Funeral Services chapel in Ridgeway and other times at the home of his son, Donald Kendrick, 223 Henry St., Stanleytown.

Richard E. Meadows
Richard Eugene Meadows, 64, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Glen Lyn on March 22, 1941, to Stuart Mark Meadows and Vera Wills Meadows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Meadows; a brother, Arnold S. Meadows; and three sisters, Louise Rains, Irene Janney and Helen Whitaker.
He retired with 15 years of service with Southeast Container as a press operator, and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Novella Ruth Dollarhite Meadows of the home; two sons, Richard S. Meadows of Spencer and John J. Meadows of Bassett; a brother, Harold "Wess" Meadows of Bassett; a sister, Bertie Goodnow of Martinsville; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Young and Winfred Young officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends for two hours before the funeral today and other times at the home at 57 Mona Drive, Spencer.
Memorial donations may be made to the Horsepasture Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 34, Spencer, Va. 24165.

George W. Metz Jr.
The funeral for George Wilbur Metz Jr., 77, of Rocky Mount, who died Nov. 26, 2005, was held Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Dr. Charles Lumpkin and the Rev. James Alsop officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bill English, Tommy Arrington, Horace Gardner, Logan Richardson, Jay Holt, John King, Marshal Young and Jimmy Hodges.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Oak Level Ruritan Club.

Erma H. Minter
The funeral for Erma Louise Haynes Minter, 60, of Rocky Mount, who died Nov. 27, 2005, was held Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with Pastor Philip M. Crandall and Apostle Joseph Crandall officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Tyree, Mark Kaiser, Jason Gaudette, Mark Lozeau, Rick Lozeau and Tim Wall.
