PEYTON
Armistead Peyton, son of Emily Armistead and Robert Eden Peyton Jr., died December 14, 2001. He was born in Richmond, Va. on April 3, 1916. He attended the McGuire's University School, graduated from St. Christopher's School, the University of Virginia and the Evening School of Business Administration at the University of Richmond. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Infantry, in the Normandy Invasion landing on Omaha Beach. In 1945, he became an independent agent with the Traveler's Insurance Co. Later on, he was co-founder of the Peyton, Cheely, Woodle Insurance Agency, a multi-insurance company. He was a member of the National Society of the Richmond Chapter of Chartered Life Underwriters. For many years, he was Scoutmaster of Troop 18, sponsored by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and Troop 21, sponsored by St. James's Episcopal Church. He was a member of St. James's Church, where he served on the vestry, a member of the Decendents of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Sons of the Revolution in the state of Virginia, The Cohoke Club and the Country Club of Virginia. Mr. Peyton was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his life, and an advocate of conservation of Virginia's fields, streams, forests and wildlife. He is survived by his wife, Almeyda Spratley Peyton; a daughter, Gay Peyton; a daughter, Eliza Peyton Leitch and her husband, John Taylor Leitch; a son, Armistead Peyton Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; two granddaughters, Corbin and Anne Peyton Leitch; and a sister, Mrs. William H. Higgins Jr. A funeral service will be held at St. James's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18. Private burial will be at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. James's Episcopal Church or St. Christopher's School.

THACKER
Arthur R. Thacker Jr., 68, of California, son of A. Raymon Thacker of Scottsville, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 in San Diego Veterans Medical Center, San Diego, Calif. He was born in Scottsville on April 1, 1933. Mr. Thacker was a master planner and project manager for land development in southern California. Besides his father, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Virginia Lee Bishop of Yorktown; one brother, Cary James Thacker of Colonial Heights; and one half brother, Matthew Lewis Thacker of Scottsville. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2001 at Scottsville Cemetery, with the Rev. James C. Jetton officiating. Arrangements are by Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.

TURNER
Joseph Lee Turner, formerly of Terminal Ave., departed this life Saturday, December 15, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

VAUGHAN
Vernie V. Vaughan, 80, of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, December 15, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Jackie Brannan, Vernie Lee Beasley, and Ruby Jacobs; a son, Thomas Marshall Strickler; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Earl Elwood Strickler. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, corner of 301 and Shady Grove Rd. in Mechanicsville. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, McGaheysville, Va.

WALKER
Robert P. Walker III, age 81, died December 13, 2001 at his residence in Charlottesville. He is survived by his daughter, Wynn Landis Walker of Fremont, Calif.; two brothers, Phillip L. Walker, Sandford, N.C., and Fred B. Walker of Richmond; as well as his former wife and still dear friend, Lorna Landis Walker. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 18 at 2 p.m. in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Teague Funeral Home, Charlottesville is in charge of arrangements.

WILKINSON
Mr. William Bailey Wilkinson of Richmond passed on Friday, December 14, 2001. He was a native of Windsor, Va. and the son of William Samuel and Opher Bailey Wilkinson, and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Carlton Wilkinson; and a nephew, Dr. James W. Mayo of California. Mr. Wilkinson was a graduate of The College of William and Mary and T.C. Williams Law School of the University of Richmond. He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Air Force and was retired as secretary of the Virginia A.B.C. Board. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 17, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Parkway, Building 4, Richmond, Va. 23227 or the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Interment will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 18, in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Va.

WILLIAMS
Virginia S. Williams, 71, widow of Walter J. Williams, died December 11, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Richard and David Williams; her daughter, Toni Morgan; and her grandchildren, Dean, Wesley and Taylor Williams and Lisa and Melissa Morgan. A memorial service will be held at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., Richmond, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2001.

WILLIAMSON
James T. "Jim" Williamson Sr., 80, of Richmond, has gone to meet his heavenly Father on Thursday, December 13, 2001. He is survived by his faithful wife, Shirley; four children, Vivian Gribble, Pat Williamson, James T. Williamson Jr. and Lynn Alexander; five stepchildren, Dale Huston and Pat Schmeltzer, both of Pennsylvania, Tom Schmeltzer, Ron Schmeltzer of Colorado and a very devoted stepdaughter, Debra Bates; three sisters, Geneva Lowery and Doris Jean, both of Mississippi and Marie Stanford of Florida; two brothers, Aubrey Williamson of Alabama and Charles Williamson of West Virginia; and 16 grandchildren. Mr. Williamson served in the Marines during WWII in the South Pacific. He retired from American Bakery Co. after 30 years of service and was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Beulah United Methodist Church. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beulah United Methodist Church or the Hospice at McGuire Veterans' Hospital.

WILSON
Isabel Louise Wood Wilson, 82, of Richmond, departed this life on December 12, 2001. She was the widow of Earl Clements "Gunner" Wilson and is survived by two daughters, Donna Wilson Curry and Bonnie Wilson Trice; two sons, Earl C. Wilson Jr. and his wife, Barbara Catlett and Mason Eugene Wilson and his wife, Diane Smigo; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Ray Curry, Jill Renee Curry, Tracy Wilson Rogers, Earl C. Wilson III, Sherry Wilson Cummins, Brian Christopher Wilson, Valerie Suzanne Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Franklin George Rogers IV, Rachelle Lee Rogers, Tanner Quentin Cummins, Justin Earl Wilson, Ashley Nicole Wilson; a sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Wood Mays; one niece, Veeanne Mays Crenshaw; one nephew, Vincent Kent Mays Jr. Mrs. Wilson was a member of River Road United Methodist Church, a retired employee of the Federal Reserve Bank, a member of Spares and Pairs Dance and a volunteer for the American Red Cross (Cedarfield). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christmas Mother Fund or the Richmond Ballet. "We will miss you, Mom." A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

ALLEY
Robert Forest Alley, 66, of Richmond, died August 21, 2002. He is survived by two sisters, Clara Trivett and Ruth Seay; three brothers, Russell, Earl and Alvin Alley. Graveside services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Goochland. Services by Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, Powhatan.

BLACKFORD
Robert Lee Blackford, age 76, of Montpelier, formerly a long-time resident of Rockville, passed away August 27, 2002. He was preceded in death by his son, Davie Wayne Blackford. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myrtis O. Blackford; his daughter, W. Nadine Blackford; and his three grandchildren, Melaney, Jennifer and Dylan. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where the family will receive friends Friday, August 30, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Blackford was a member of Springfield Christian Church, 18285 Vontay Rd., Rockville, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice of Central Virginia.

Gregory Michael Brewer, 32, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord, Friday August 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Brewer; daughter, Emily Brewer; sons, Michael and Jason Brewer; mother, Barbara Anderson; sisters, Deanne Powell and Kim Brewer. Barbara Beahr Carter, 54, of Highland Springs, passed away August 28, 2002. A beloved wife and mother, she is survived by her husband, William Carter; three daughters and their families, Debbie Yacklon, Donna and Marc Chitty, Jennifer and Brian Rawls; four brothers and their families, Jack Beahr, David Beahr, Wayne Beahr and Jerry Beahr; one sister and her family, Diane Stanley; six grandchildren, Crystal Seay, Tim Lisbon, Charlie Yacklon, Laura Chitty, Tyler Rawls, Christopher Yacklon; and a host of other family and friends including her church family at Highland Springs Church of Christ. COLE
Bebe Nance Cole of Richmond died on Wednesday, August 28, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Archie G. Nance of Bedford, Va. and Kathleen Hortman Nance of Eufaula, Ala. She is survived by beloved cousins, Bob and Doris Nance, Joe and Debbie Nance, Lelia Hortman Hendon. Ms. Cole was born in Eufaula, Ala. in 1930 and moved to Bon Air, Va. when she was nine. She graduated from Glen Allen High School and attended Richmond Professional Institute, now VCU. Bebe's career in the book industry began in 1948 when she joined Thalhimer's Department Store as Assistant Book Buyer. In 1953 she began a 17-year association with Cokesbury Book Store as a manager and buyer, which ended when she relocated to New York in 1969. Her next three years were spent with World Publishing Co., and then in 1972 Waldenbooks became part of her life where she became their first Category Buyer. In 1973 Bebe joined Doubleday as Assistant Sales Manager and was made National Account Manager, responsible for Doubleday Dell Delacorte for America's two largest book wholesalers; Waldenbooks, Borders and B. Dalton. Her resume has featured the following highlights: first female member of the Association of Book Travelers, 1971; first female president of the Association of Book Travelers, 1979-1980; one of 79 women honored by the Women's National Book Association as Book Woman of the Year, 1987; one of the only two people ever given a lifetime achievement award by Waldenbook Co., 1991; Banton Doubleday Dell retail channel sales achievement award, 1992. She retired October 31, 1995. Bebe was privileged to work with some very famous people in her career, such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Gerry Spence, F. Lee Bailey, Irving Stone, Eugenia Price, Danielle Steele, John Grisham, Janet Leigh, Reba McIntyre, Gay Telese, Pat Conroy, Mickey Mantle, Stephen King, Bill Moyers, David Crosby, Carly Simon, Belva Plain, James Clevall, Al Franken, Robert Ludlum, Helen Hayes, Alex Hailey, Robert Kennedy, Arthur Hailey, Isaac Asimov, Maeve Binchy and on and on. Bebe lived for 20 years in a co-op apartment in Garden City, N.Y., where she served on the Board of Directors off and on for 10 years. She was secretary and vice president during that time. She moved to Summerhill at Stony Point in May of 1996 and brought her mother, Kathleen Nance, to live with her until her death in September of 1998. Bebe served on the Summerhill Unit Owner's Board for six years. She always loved crafts and flowers and was president of the Bon Air Garden Club in the 1960's. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
