ROBINSON
Departed this life August 15, 2001, Ms. Jean D. Robinson of 2822 Nine Mile Rd. She is survived by two brothers, Wilbur and Linwood Robinson; four sisters, Elizabeth Bowman, Elsie Hubbard, Ernestine Robinson and Edith Walker; one foster sister, Ethel Snoddy; a host of nieces and nephews; one aunt, Thelma Robinson; one sister-in-law, Willie B. Robinson; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Monday, 1 p.m. at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 'P' St., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

RODITES
On August 16, 2001, Gail Lou Rodites, age 55, a long-time resident of Richmond and recently of Apopka, Fla., passed on peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Nicholas J. Rodites Jr., Melissa L. Rodites, and daughter-in-law, Alicia M. Rodites. She is also survived by her mother, Lucille Junge; her sister, Kathi Junge; and her uncle, Maurice Cohen of Long Island, N.Y.; and many devoted and loving relatives and friends. Gail was the co-owner of Gali's Wellness Salon on Cary Street, where she was gifted at brightening people's outlook on life, as well as their looks. She was an inspiration to those who knew her and was loved by all. Friends can join the family in a Celebration of Life party honoring Gail between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m. at the Columbian Community Center, 2324 Pump Rd., on Friday, August 24. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

LaToya N. Ross, age 20, of 11061 Sampson Lane, died August 18, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

SCHNEIDER
Emma Olsen Schneider, 84, of Midlothian, died Friday, August 17, 2001. She is survived by her brother, Edwin A. Olsen of New York; three nephews, George Schneider, Barry and Bradley Olsen; a niece, Laurinda Olsen Meisner; and five great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Schneider was a member of Salisbury Country Club. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 9800 W. Huguenot Rd. with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

SMITH
David Keith Smith was called home on August 17, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Vance and Hazel Reichel Smith; his sister, Kimberly S. Ragland; and three brothers, Vance (Chip), Kent and Tony; a niece, Holly Ragland; and a nephew, Richard Ragland; also a very special friend, Wanda Ladd. Marine Corps Veteran military honors will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia on Pridesville Rd. on Tuesday, August 21 at 3 p.m. Donations may be made to the Liver Transplant Program at MCV and or the Thomas Hospice Pallative Care Unit at MCV, P.O. Box 2510, Midlothian, Va. 23113.

SMITH
Lorenza A. Smith of Richmond departed this life Saturday, August 18, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral notice later.

STEARNS
Daniel Deane Stearns passed away July 27, 2001 due to medical complications associated with a long term illness. Dan was born on April 27, 1927. Dan was a twice decorated World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from Western Michigan University in 1951. He worked in the paper industry his entire career and retired as the Vice President of Risk Management for the James River Corporation in 1992. Dan was known to his family for his kindness, generosity, and independent spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by three sons, Stephen D. Stearns, David D. Stearns, Gregory L. Stearns; one daughter, Laura L. Dobos; and four grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Good bye dad, you will always live in our hearts!

THOMAS
Jane Dorsey Thomas of Sandston, Virginia, died August 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond from cancer. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, August 12, 1923, Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie Winthrop Griffiss Thomas and Dr. Frank Carleton Thomas. She is survived by her sister, Caroline Thomas Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama; her niece, Hannah Stewart Gambino; and her nephews, Leonard Stewart and Carleton Stewart; and many devoted friends. Upon graduation from Converse College, Jane moved to Richmond where she worked for the Medical College of Virginia. She then began a career in the Airline and Hotel Industries. She was a supervisor for Eastern Airlines and for the Hilton Hotels before working for Piedmont Airlines, where she worked until her retirement. Jane will be best remembered for her tireless devotion to and volunteer work for Deo Volente, Inc., a non-profit organization. She was a member of D.V. for over 20 years and spent the last 13 years as the Chairman of the Outer Banks Serenity Retreat, held semi-annually and better known as the Gulls Retreat. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1, 1 p.m., at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., with the Reverend Pat Bessey officiating. Family will receive friends after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Deo Volente, Inc. c/o Sara McBride, 625 Hopewell Dr., Chesapeake, Va. 23323.

THURSTON
Louis E. Thurston, 81, of Henrico, passed away August 18, 2001, the widower of Madeline (Toney) Seay Thurston. He is survived by a brother, Thomas Earl Thurston; two sisters, Rosemary Mancha and Peggy T. Butler; and several nieces, nephews and a host of fishing buddies. He was retired from William Byrd Press and an Air Force veteran and a former Flotilla Commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His remains rest at the Biley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

WASHBURN
Rev. Harold Gordon Washburn, 85, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away August 4, 2001. Rev. Washburn was the former chaplain at the Federal Reformatory in Petersburg. He is survived by his wife, Alice Washburn of Bella Vista, Ark.; son, Harold G. Washburn Jr., of Downers Grove, Ill.; daughter, Bonnie Lee Forstner of Sandston, Va.; twin sons, David Washburn of Rogers, Ark. and Paul Washburn of Springfield, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held in Bella Vista.

WHITE
Mary Ellen Gentry White, 81, of Richmond, a retired employee of FFV after 35 years of service, died peacefully August 16, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara W. Anderson and her husband, Thomas D. Anderson; two sisters, Virginia Tinnell of Richmond, Patricia Saunders of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Scott Michael Loving and his wife, Dawn, Stefanie Noel Wenzig, Thomas Dale Anderson Jr., Samantha Gray Loving and Pamela Ashley Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Meghan Nicole Wenzig and Chance Addison Loving. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Lucille G. Yarbrough, Margaret G. Payne and Betty G. Wheeler. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Hollywood Cemetery.

WILLIAMS
Colleen W. Williams, 75, of Richmond, died August 17, 2001. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George S. Williams. Survived by three children, Roger Ramey and his wife, Mae, Sandra Cook and her husband, Bill, Kaye Potter; a brother, Ronald Williams and his wife, Martha; and sister, Faye Naff and her husband, Bill; five grandchildren, Stacie McCalip and her husband, Larry, Patrick Cook, Brent Ramey and his wife, Shelli, Robin Ferguson and Nikkie Potter; six great-grandchildren, Shane Britton, Carson McCalip, Bailee McCalip, Cody Britton, Savannah Stewart and Logan Ramey. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, with interment in Sunset Memorial Park.

WILLIS
Edward Jones Willis Jr., "Tim", age 68, of Saluda, a Richmond native, departed this life on Thursday, August 16, 2001. He was born on April 19, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His wife, Robin O. Willis survives him. Two sons, Edward Jones Willis III and Christopher Thomas Willis survive him. His other survivors include two grandsons, Cabell Francis Willis and Cameron Thomas Willis; two brothers, John Currie Willis and Clark Pembroke Willis; two sisters, Janet Fauntleroy Willis and Elizabeth Willis Denison; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Willis attended St. Christopher's School and graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy, Va. He attended the University of Virginia and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and received his wings as an aircraft carrier pilot at Pensacola, Florida. Second Lt. Willis was appointed First Lt. in the United States Marine Corps on the first of June, 1956 and trained as a helicopter pilot at New River and Cherry Point MC Air Station, N.C. He founded Virginia Timber Seeding Co., Inc., and Powhite Development Corp. He was a real estate developer of Settler's Landing and Pembroke Farms subdivisions. Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Three Chopt Road and Grove Ave. at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21 followed by interment in Hollywood Cemetery with full military honors at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Edward F. Willis Fire Station No. 1, Manakin, Va. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.

WRIGHT
Mrs. Josephine Wright Shelton, formerly of Doswell, Va., departed this life August 16, 2001. She is survived by three sisters, Naomi Plunkett, New York, N.Y., Mary L. Moore, Schenectady, N.Y., Amelia Carrington, Emporia, Va.; one brother, Jonathan Wright, Emporia, Va.; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where her family will receive friends Sunday 5 to 6 p.m. and where funeral services will be conducted Monday 11 a.m. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

AKERS
Delia Reed Akers, 96, of Richmond, passed away January 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Akers; son, Kenneth Akers; and her daughter, Norma Tripp. She is survived by her children, Eugene Akers, Ellouise Figart, Donna Jenkins and Larry Akers; her sister, Bonnie Ware; and 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

BERRY
Mrs. Rachel Ripley Berry, age 93, died Monday, January 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice A. Berry; and 12 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Berry Peroe and husband, Richard E. Peroe of Mechanicsville; two granddaughters, Karen Peroe Catlett and spouse, W. Hughes Catlett Jr. of Midlothian, and Laura Peroe Butts of Marshfield, Mass. She also is survived by three grandsons, Richard and Hunter Catlett, and Andrew Butts. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Masonic Home of Virginia for the love and care shown to Rachel during her time of residence there. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond, Va. 23223.

BONDURANT
Thomas L. Bondurant died January 14, 2001. He was a retired general manager of Aetna Life & Casualty's Richmond branch office. A native of Richmond, he was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Richmond and a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church. While an officer and manager for Aetna, he served as chairman and member of the boards of directors of numerous insurance industry organizations. A short list of such offices would include chairman of the boards of directors of the Virginia Property Insurance Association, the Virginia Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriting Association, the Compensation Rating Bureau of Virginia and the Virginia Automobile Insurance Plan. He also served on the board of the Virginia Birth Injury Fund. Tom's associates in the insurance industry accorded him numerous honors and awards during his career. The Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia Inc. selected him as their outstanding associate member on three occasions. The Professional Insurance Agents of Virginia and D.C. chose him for a similar honor two years in a row, and the Professional Insurance Agents of America named him the country's outstanding company representative in 1987. He was elected to the Virginia Insurance Hall of Fame in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wooldridge Bondurant; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bruce Bykowski; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Hollis Bondurant; and two grandsons, Allen and Thomas Bondurant. His remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2001. A funeral service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Rd., on Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
