America M. Hylton
America Melinda Martin Hylton, 82, of 23071 A.L. Philpott Hwy., Spencer, died Nov. 29, 2005, at Chippenham and Johnston Willis Medical Center in Richmond.
She born in Patrick County on April 29, 1923, to John Sherman Martin and Blanche Scales Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Bill Hylton.
She worked as a seamstress at Standard Garment and also at American Furniture before retiring. She was Mother of both Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church and Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church. She was a member of the Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Hylton of Richmond; a son, William David Hylton of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Benjamin Martin of Spencer; three grandchildren; and other relatives.
The funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Joseph Scales and Elder Walter Scales officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour before the funeral Saturday and other times at the home on A.L. Philpott Hwy., Spencer.
Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Lackey
Minnie Lackey, 92, of Spencer, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at her home.
Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett will announce arrangements.

Violet M. McNeely
Violet Marie McNeely, 74, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, where she resided.
She was born in Henry County on Nov. 26, 1931, to George Lester McNeely and Lena Motley McNeely. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley M. Weddle; and three brothers, William McNeely, Glenn McNeely and Walter McNeely.
She worked in retail sales at department stores in Cleveland, Ohio.
Surviving are four sisters, Aileen M. Eanes of Martinsville, Louise M. Harmon of Eden, N.C., Roslyn M. Ashby of Martinsville and Betty M. Reynolds of Callands; and two brothers, Robert "Bobby" McNeely and Billy McNeely, both of Martinsville.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Don Reynolds officiating.
Friends will be received at the home of her sister, Aileen M. Eanes, 97 Dyers Store Road, Martinsville.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Richard E. Meadows
The funeral for Richard Eugene Meadows, 64, of Spencer, who died Nov. 29, 2005, was held Thursday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Larry Curry, Greg Meadows, David Cardwell, Cabell Griffin Jr., Leon Whittaker, Buddy Goodnow, Roy Johnson and Kevin Sole.

James L. Perdue
A graveside service for James L. Perdue, who died Nov. 27, 2005, was held Wednesday at the Spencer-Shough family cemetery at Patrick Springs. Elder Kenneth Hopkins officiated.
Pallbearers were Richard Lane, Steven Goff, Terry Goff and Toby Pritchett.
Howell Funeral Home in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.

Linda M. Richards
Linda Faye Meeks Richards, 45, of 1057 Graves St., Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at her home.
she was born in Franklin County on Sept. 19, 1960, to James Meeks and Allie Ferguson Meeks of Fieldale.
She worked at American Furniture for eight years and was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Paul Anthony Richards of the home; three sisters, Darlene Bowers, Brenda Richards and Carlene Wright, all of Fieldale; and a brother, Jay W. Meeks of Fieldale.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Terry Knighten officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3907, Martinsville, Va. 24115.

M. Lewis Sigmon
The funeral for M. Lewis Sigmon, 74, of Bassett, who died Nov. 27, 2005, was held Thursday at Northside Baptist Church. Pastors Ron Peal and John Shelly officiated. Burial was in Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Elmo Dalton, Ronnie Haynes, Bobby Eanes, Clinton Hylton, Kenneth Peal, Chad Haynes, Albert Turner and Nicky Barbour.
Arrangements were by Bassett Funeral Services.

Barbara L. Tuttle
Barbara Lusk Tuttle, 73, of 1025 Owen Street Ext., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
She was born in Henry County on Aug. 22, 1932, to Irene Arnold Lusk and James Thomas Lusk. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Lee Tuttle Jr.
She graduated from Martinsville High School, was a homemaker and a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Douglas Lee Tuttle of the home; a daughter, Karen Tuttle Dillon of Eden, N.C.; a son, Wendell Dean Tuttle of Martinsville; three brothers, Jimmy Lusk and Maynard Lusk, both of Martinsville and Joe Lusk of Ridgeway; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 551, Martinsville, Va. 24114.

Melvin B. Carter
The funeral for Melvin Burke Carter, 66, of Martinsville, who died Nov. 27, 2005, was held Friday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel. Bishop J.C. Richardson Jr. officiated. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Joseph Brown, Dana Pettie, Terry Martin, Robert Hairston, Lynwood Turner, Dana Pettie Jr., Samuel Morris and Kenard Morris.

Reuben W. Chaney
Reuben William Chaney, 87, of 1446 Fayette Street, Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Pittsylvania County on Feb. 18, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Agil Chaney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three wives, Florence Chaney, Gertude Chaney and Lillie Chaney; a daughter, Angela Chaney; two sons, James Dallas Chaney and Edward Chaney; two sisters, Maud Chaney and Harriett Chaney; and five brothers, Raleigh Chaney, Samuel Chaney, Harry Chaney, Scott Chaney and Hobert Chaney.
He was employed at Bassett Furniture Company and was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church in Sutherlin.
Surviving are three daughters, Stella Rose, Nellie Witcher and Jean Richardson, all of Martinsville; a son, Harold Chaney of Martinsville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday at the Mease Cemetery in Sandy Level with Dr. C. Lewis Motley officiating.
Miller Funeral Home in Gretna is in charge of arrangements.
