Verona S. Dodd of Chester died Friday, November 23, 2001. Arrangements will be announced by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester.

DUNHAM
Dorothy L. Dunham, 101, of Richmond, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001. She was the widow of Arthur L. Dunham. She is survived by her daughter, Louise D. Williams and her husband, Harold; two grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Bissett and her husband, Jimm and Harold J. Williams III and his wife, Suzanne; two great-grandchildren, Andrew M. and Caroline P. Williams; four nieces; two nephews. Mrs. Dunham was a member of Chapter Y, P.E.O. and Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 28 at Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altar Guild of Grace & Holy Trinity Church or the Endowment Funds of St. Christopher's School or St. Catherine's School.

DuVAL
Lewis Friend DuVal of Keysville died Thursday, November 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Louise Herzig DuVal; one daughter, Jeanette DuVal of Richmond; three sons, L. Stephen DuVal of Madison Heights, Michael R. DuVal of Roanoke, Douglas E. DuVal of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; three grandchildren, Elissa Priddy, Allison and David DuVal; two sisters, Evelyn Harmon and Pearl Moore; two brothers, William DuVal and Raymond DuVal. Mr. DuVal served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific, and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge, Ruritan Club, and Ash Camp Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Browning Funeral Home, with interment in the Meherrin Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Charlotte County Rescue Squad, Ash Camp Baptist Church, or the Keysville Fire Department.

GORDON
Mrs. Aileen Gordon, widow of James Russell Gordon, died Thursday, November 22, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Anne Gordon Taylor, Kay Taylor Joyner and Pati Gordon Henderson; one son, James R. "Russ" Gordon Jr.; a brother, Maynard Wilkinson; a sister, Thelma "Tootsie" Matthews; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy L. Gordon. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2001. Interment Gardens of Emporia.

Mrs. Mary Hill Green, 89, widow of Mr. A. Rice Green died Thursday, November 22, 2001. Survivors include her son, The Reverend Alfred M. Green and wife, Betty H. Green; her daughter, Elizabeth G. Haga and husband, Dr. Ray Haga; three grandchildren, Sherry P. Saunders and husband, Carson E. Saunders Jr., Elizabeth G. Tapocik and husband, M. Shawn Tapocik and Noah Kent Haga; four great-grandchildren, Anne Curtis Saunders, Mary Warren Saunders, Courtney Paige Tapocik and Jack Thomas Tapocik; numerous special friends, among them, Timothy Saul and family. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt, where the funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001. Entombment will take place 2 p.m. Monday at Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made the The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at the Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309.

HARRIS
Orian "O.B." Harris Sr. of Glen Allen died November 22, 2001 after a long illness. He was a retired member of the Richmond Builders Association. He is survived by one sister, Lois Alvis; his wife, Linda; six children, Gloria Jeanne, MaLinda Sue, Orian Jr., Mark, Alisa and Cindy; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at New Found Church of Christ, 14166 Gordons Lane, Glen Allen. Interment Calvary Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the New Found Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 1399, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

HOLLIS
Merry Margaret (Meg) Hollis, age 29, of Richmond, Va. died suddenly November 21, 2001. She was the daughter of Janice and Wayne Peregoy of Richmond, Va. and Billy Hollis and wife, Beth of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. Survived by sister, Michelle Culp and husband, Darren; sister, Melanie Sudduth; stepsister, Sherrie Reed and husband, Kirk; stepbrother, Larry Peregoy; nieces, Haley Sudduth, Jordan Hensel and Kalyn Reed; nephews, Collin and Jacob Culp; and beloved companion, Michael Floyd; and so many special friends who loved and supported her, including a very special friend, Leslie Treaster. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be eternally missed by the many who she touched in this life; no doubt, God holds her now. Memorial services will be held at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, Saturday, November 24 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in Meg's name.

JENKINS
Stuart Reed Jenkins Sr., age 56, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 22, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward W. Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and was a retired plumber from MCV with 30 years of service. Survivors include his mother, Lois C. Jenkins; one daughter, Carol M. Schwerdtfeger; two sons, Stuart R. Jenkins Jr. and Ronnie W. Jenkins; two sisters, Darlene J. Lumpkin and Ann J. White; one brother, William E. Jenkins; three grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001, at the Gethesemane Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

KIRKHUM
James C. Kirkhum, 52, of Chesterfield, died Thursday, November 22, 2001. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam, a member of Salem Baptist Church and a life member of Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Bernice and Edward Bernard; and a son, Brian C. Kirkhum. He is survived by his wife, Gerri Kirkhum; father and stepmother, Eddie and Virginia Kirkhum; two brothers, Charles Kirkhum and David Kirkum; half-brother, Keith Kirkhum; uncle, Odell Kirkhum; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 657, Chester, Va. 23831.

MATTHEWS
Eutha Moser Matthews, 74, of Emporia, died Thursday, November 22, 2001 in Avis B. Adams Convalescent Center after an extended illness. She was born in Frederick, Md., the daughter of the late Hubert and Annie Moser. She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Matthews; two daughters, Terry Baker and husband, Bruce of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and Gloria Delbridge; one son, Michael Matthews and wife, Brenda; one granddaughter, Kimberly Delbridge, all of Emporia; two brothers, Roland Moser of Hagerstown, Md. and Charles "Babe" Moser and wife, Clara of Rex, Ga. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2001 at Main Street Baptist Church, Emporia, with interment to follow in Emporia Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Baptist Church.

NUNLEY
Mr. William H. "Bill" Nunley Sr., 57, of Clearwater, Fla., died on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Bay Pines Hospital, Clearwater, Fla. He was born in Norton, Va. and was a son of the late Frank and Martha Nunley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Estep. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Nunley, Richmond, Va.; one son, William Nunley Jr., Abingdon, Va.; three daughters, Melissa McCracken, Abingdon, Va., Hillary Nunley and Meagan Nunley, Richmond, Va.; one brother, Earl F. Nunley, Chesapeake, Va.; five sisters, Betty Wells, Mary Beverly and Peggy Funk, all of Norton, Va., Linda Mays, Bristol Va. and Christie Frye, Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren, Jessica Campbell, Destiny and Dustin McCracken, all of Abingdon, Va. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2001 at 6 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel, Abingdon, Va. Reverend Darrell Pickle officiating. Family graveside services will be conducted Sunday, November 25, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Hutchinson Cemetery, Wise, Va. Pallbearers will be members of the Abingdon Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be the Washington County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Lou Bell Adams Palmore, age 63, of Blackstone, Va., died Friday, November 23, 2001. She was the widow of Douglas Thomas Palmore. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Collins of Chesterfield; Terry Brooks of Richmond and Sabrina Gibson of Blackstone; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Shirley Watson and Betty Weisinger, both of Richmond; two brothers, Leroy Adams of North Carolina and Bobby Adams of Richmond. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 25 in Crewe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home.

SAWYER
Matthew James Sawyer, 22, of Partlow, Va., died Monday, November 19, 2001, at MCV after a long bout with cancer. A student at Virginia Tech, he was a 1997 graduate of Spotsylvania High School. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Chris Sawyer; sister, Robin Frary, formerly of Richmond; brothers, Bob Sawyer Jr., Jon Sawyer, David Sawyer; paternal grandmother, Helen Sawyer; two nieces, four nephews, several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at Covenant Funeral Service Chapel with Chaplain Jim Bonomo officiating. Burial will be private. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. At Matt's request, memorials may be made to the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer, MCV Hospital, P.O. TATE
Janice Newman Shorter Tate, 81, of Lake Monticello, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001. The widow of Chilton H. Shorter and of Glenwood E. Tate, she is survived by two sons, Chilton H. Shorter Jr. and his wife, Nancy E. Weber and Frank Jannisson; and two daughters, Ellen Shorter Hardy and her husband, Edward I. Hardy Jr. and Dr. Julie Shorter Plumbley and her husband, Stephen Plumbley. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tony Shorter and Mary Kathryn, Edward Hugh and Walker James Hardy. She graduated as an RN from Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg in 1941 and earned her nurse practitioner ceritfication from the University of Virginia in 1976. Mrs. Tate was a partner in Eagle Nutrition Group from 1980 until her death. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 25, at Charlottesville Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, 1104 Forest St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 10 Slice Rd., Palmyra, Va. 22963 or Charlottesville ASG, P.O.
