Ethel T. LeTang, 53, of Mattaponi, mother of Juanita Taliaferro, passed away Monday, November 26, 2001. The viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the First Baptist Church, Hockley. Interment church cemetery.

LIVESAY
Lena M. Weymouth Livesay went home to be with the Lord November 27, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norton M. Livesay and son, John H. Flammia. She is survived by one daughter, Rosemarie Flammia Floyd; and one son, Edward N. Livesay and his wife, Bonnie; one stepson, two stepdaughters, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two special nieces, and many loving family members and friends. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Thursday and Friday and where funeral services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

MADERIA
In loving memory of Susan V. Maderia, 47, of Richmond, who died in Richmond, on Monday, November 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna K. Maderia and is survived by her father, J. Maderia Sr.; two brothers and their wives, Earl J. Maderia Jr. and Debbie, John W. Maderia and Cristi; six nieces and nephews. Miss Maderia was a lifelong member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church.

McCARTHY
Helen Kasten McCarthy, widow of Edward Stephens McCarthy died on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 after a brief illness. She was born in Richmond on May 16, 1906. Mrs. McCarthy graduated from the Collegiate School for Girls and spent many years working for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. From 1934 until 1969, she was secretary to Mr. Virginius Dabney. She retired in 1971. She was the daughter of Edith Tomlinson and Herman Emil Kasten, also of Richmond. She is survived by her nephew, Frank K. Lord III and his wife, Kay Doenges Lord of Winston-Salem, N.C., and her nephew, Charles K. Lord and his wife, Ruth Alley Lord of Amelia, Va. She also had three great-nephews, three great-nieces, and two great-great-nephews. Mrs. McCarthy was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 3602 Hawthorne Ave., Richmond, Va. 23222. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the church. A graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 29.

McCONNELL
Louise B. McConnell, age 78, of Richmond, widow of Earl M. Williams, current wife of Gene McConnell, passed away November 26, 2001. Survivors include three children, Earl M. Williams Jr., David T. Williams, and Dr. Elizabeth L. Berke-Williams; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Tyson, David, Raymond, Andrew and Shelton Benson; one sister, Alma Rae Hardee; nine nieces and four nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave. Interment will be at Dale Memorial Park. The family would like to invite friends to a reception 1:30 p.m. Saturday (after the committal) at Oak Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Children's Fund.

MOON
Grayce Peters Moon, age 85, of Richmond, widow of William H. Moon, died November 28, 2001. Born in Cumberland Court House, Va. to Rhuel E. Peters and Edna Blanton Peters March 7, 1916. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Madge Peters Garrett of Blackstone and Mae Peters Meinhard of Cumberland, Va. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Billie Leigh and Alan Davis of Midlothian; and a son and daughter-in-law, Ron H. and Julie Moon of Hanover. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Anne Whitney Davis and Cary Meade Davis of Midlothian and William Bradley Moon of Hanover. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Peter Moon of Farmville officiating. Burial at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

MORRIS
Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Morris, 79, of Richmond, died Monday, November 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Dobbins and is survived by her husband, William H. Morris; four sons, William G. Morris and wife, Jo, Robert H. Morris and wife, Deborah, James O. Morris, and Brian D. Morris, and wife Theresa; eight grandchildren, Diana Batliner and husband, Ron, Shari Hardy and husband, Chuck, William J. Morris and wife, Cheryl, Todd Morris and wife, Dena, Karen Morris, Marcia Forrest, Matthew Morris and Daniel Morris; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Theresa Dobbins; and one niece and three nephews. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m., Friday at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Mrs. Morris was a member and past president of the Over 50 Women's Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benedictine High School Development Fund, 304 N. Sheppard St. Richmond, Va. 23221.

Maria Scetta Morrison, 76, of Richmond, born in Naples, Italy, died November 26, 2001. She is survived by her husband, John A. Morrison; daughter, Nancy Morrison Reynolds and her husband, Royal Reynolds; two sisters, Lina Arganese and Anna Menna; brother, Franco Scetta; two grandsons, Mathieu J. Reynolds and Christopher G. Reynolds; brother-in-law, George F. Morrison and his wife, Rose; sister-in-law, Louise Phillips; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Christian Wake Service being held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church. Entombment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice Center.

Mrs. Lucille Mable Walthall Payne of 2722 Bainbridge Street departed this life Tuesday, November 27, 2001. She is survived by her children, Calvin Walthall, Alfred Lipford, Dorothy Rice, Patricia Forbes, Gwendolyn Douglas and Pency Thomas; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lillie Margaret Connor, Missouri Virginia Miller, Clara Ann Potter; brother, Coolidge Walthall; children-in-law, Michael W. Rice, David Forbes, Gloria Lipford and McKinley J. Thomas; in-laws, Shade, Margaret, Estelle and Queenie Payne, Pearl Walthall and Rainey Crewes. Among her devoted nieces and nephews are Rev. Mae L. Holmes, Muriel Miller Branch, James Crewes and Frank Miller; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral service will be held Friday, November 30, 1 p.m., Morning Star Baptist Church, 3509 Midlothian Pike. Dr. J.I. McCrary, pastor, officiating. Interment Payne Family Cemetery, Hurt, Virginia on Saturday. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Annie V. Powers, 80, of Richmond, went to be with the angels on Tuesday, November 27, 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Gari Wilson of Lynchburg, Nancy Simkins of Richmond and Rebecca Ayers and her husband, Claude of Richmond; two sisters, Louise Armstrong of Newport News and Virginia Parsons of Sykesville, Md.; one brother Alfred Varner of Elkins, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Philip Wilson of Midlothian, Claude Ayers III of Richmond, Pamela Moore, King William, Va., David Simkins, Hampton, Va. and Jonnie Brasch of Columbus, Ohio; 14 great-grandchildren, Claude Ashton Ayers, Brenton Jacob Moore, Amber Lynn Ayers, Ian Michael Ayers, Ethan Allen Ayers, Kayla Simkins, David Mykl Simkins, Philip Tyler Wilson, Riley Doyle Wilson, A.G. Powell, Cynthia Diane Powell, Christopher Powell, Randall Brasch and Lauren Romberger. She was also survived by her very special companion, Hugh Henebry of Hampton; and her two dear frinds, Dreama Donaghue and Barbara McClanahan. Mrs. Powers was retired from Nabisco with 10 years of service as a bookkeeper in the accounting department and a member of the Varina Senior Citizens Organization. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m,. Friday, November 30. Interment private.

PRESTON
Rev. Norman George Preston Jr. of Roanoke died suddenly Monday, November 26, 201, in Avon, N.C. Rev. Preston was born in Louisiana August 27, 1920. Rev. Preston was a graduate of Louisiana State University and Duke University Divinity School and did post-graduate studies at Yale. He served as Director of Wesley Foundation at Louisiana Tech University and Minister to Students at University of Southern California before joining the Virginia Methodist Conference in 1950. He served as minister at a number of churches in the Virginia Methodist Conference until his retirement in 1983. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and a member of Webber High Twelve Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Buchanan Preston; four children, Rear Admiral Noel Preston of St. Petersburg, Fla., Dr. Elinor Preston of Portland, Ore., Kenneth Preston of San Francisco, Calif. and Beth P. Wooster of Powhatan, Va.; and six grandchildren, 1st Lt. Bradley Preston, USAF, Melanie Hansen, Va. Beach, Elizabeth Preston, San Diego, Calif., Leigh and Kenan Preston, Dunwoody, Ga. and Emily Wooster, Powhatan, Va. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001, at First United Methodist Church, Salem, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Preachers Relief Society, Virginia Methodist Conference, P.O. Box 11367, Richmond, Va. 23230 or the American Heart Association. Gwendolyn Dawson Robbins died Monday, November 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clayton Robbins. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Ragland Steele (John) of Woodland Hills, California; two sisters, Marie Dawson Slayton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Shirley Dawson Fergerson of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Henry P. Dawson (Mona) of Flint, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2001 at the James M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Virginia. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 2900 Hanes Avenue, Richmond, Virginia. Burial will be private. Mrs. Bessie Rowlett of Chesterfield County, long time school teacher at Union Grove School and Ettrick Elementary School, departed this life Monday at her residence. Surviving, devoted sister, Ms. Florence Williams of Richmond; and several cousins and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2001 from Bethesda Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, Rev. Roscoe Jones, pastor, will officiate. SALMON
Frank G. Salmon of Richmond, formerly of Oradell, N.J., died Monday, November 26, 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Daly Salmon. He is survived by three daughters, Denyse Salmon of Washington Township, N.J., Joan S. Van Riper of Delmar, N.Y., Barbara S. Santo and her husband, Joseph of Richmond; six grandchildren, Kyle, Kerry and Devin Van Riper and Jodi, Beth and Paul Santo; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Salmon was a member of Headquarters Co., 1st Battalion, 354th Infantry of the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, River Edge, N.J. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Entombment in Westhampton Memorial Park Mausoleum. SHACKELFORD
Ida Halloway Shackelford, 86, of Chester, widow of John W. Shackelford, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2001. A native of Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Mabel Halloway. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara S. Condrey and husband, Maxie of Chesterfield and Sandra S. Padgett and husband, Latham of Henrico; a son, John A. Shackelford of Chester; three grandchildren, Beth Keenan of Dallas, Texas, Mark Condrey of Amelia and Barry Condrey of Midlothian; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Benson Halloway of Petersburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 30 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

SIMMONDS
Richard Henry Simmonds, age 89, of Urbanna, died Tuesday, November 27, 2001. He was a member of Urbanna Baptist Church and a graduate of Christchurch School. He attended Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore where he studied voice. He was a World War II Army veteran where he participated in the Battle of Attu in the Aleutian Island chain, after which he served one year in England before being discharged. Survived by a very close friend, Winefred Carlton. Graveside services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Middlesex Cemetery, Urbanna. Friends may gather at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday (tonight).
