HATCHER
Clifton Odean Hatcher, age 61, of Chase City, died September 5, 2002. He was a member of Black Branch Baptist Church and a retired Hampco Apparel employee. He is survived by his sister, Mary Camp; and his brother, Berkley "Buster" Hatcher, both of Chase City. Friends may call at Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, 7 to 8:30 tonight, where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Howard Hutchins officiating. HICKS
On Wednesday, September 4, 2002, a precious angel received his wings. Larry LeRoy Hicks III, lovingly known as "Tripp," passed away at the age of seven months. He is survived by his parents, Allison Leigh Wash and Larry LeRoy Hicks Jr.; his grandparents, Robert and Christine Wash, Gwen Nicholson, Larry LeRoy Hicks Sr. and Sandy Krumpe, Rhonda Parrish and Ron "Pop" Croswell; great-great-grandma, Jean Madison; other great-grandparents, Dorothy and John Hicks, Beverly Sharp, George Phipps, Richard Hagen, Edena McClenny, May and Ken Plummer; godparents, Kasey Shirley and Mike Richardson; and many other loving family members. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where services will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday. HIPPS
Florence E. Hipps, 78, of Richmond, widow of Clifford L. Hipps, died Thursday, September 5, 2002. She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Hendrick of Montpelier and Helen Shehan of Chase City; two brothers, Sydney Langford Jr. and William Langford; a sister-in-law, Bessie Langford; three grandchildren, Jerry Stone Jr., Cindy Stone and Alice Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, all of Richmond. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends Friday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and where services will be held Sunday, September 8, 2002 at 2 p.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235.

JACKSON
A funeral service for Mrs. Teresa D. P. Jackson of Petersburg who departed this life September 3, 2002 will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7 from The Rock Church on County Drive in Petersburg. Mrs. Jackson was employed at Philip-Morris for 23 years. Arrangements entrusted to William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home.

JONES
Anne W. Jones died at home on Thursday, September 5, 2002. She was the daughter of Farley H. and Addie K. Wilson. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Robin Jones and Hollace Anne Jones, both of Richmond; and her brother, Robert H. Wilson of Vinton, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Jones Jr. She attended Radford College and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing. She served on the nursing staff of several Richmond area hospitals and at Christchurch and Blue Ridge Schools. In 1969 she became the receptionist at the Collegiate Schools where she remained until her death. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, at Second Baptist Church, located on the corner of Gaskins and River Roads. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Collegiate School, North Mooreland Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229.

LEWIS
Randolph M. Lewis, 70, departed this life September 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Marion; his son, Michael; and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny. Funeral arrangements to follow.

LINVILLE
Lucille Linville of Powhatan died September 5, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Linville; one son and his wife, Donald and Carolyn Linville of Chester; two daughters, Peggy Marler of Florida and Tammy Baker of Arizona; three sisters, Irene Hughes of Henrico, Mildred Thomas of Powhatan and Nancy Walker of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Larry Davis of Prince Edward and James Davis of Burkeville; seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt.60), Powhatan. Services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. in the Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3400 Courthouse Rd., Richmond. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

MILLER
Alice Mozelle Willis Miller, 81, of Victoria, Va., died September 5, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Miller; and son-in-law, Donald L. Perkins. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy M. Perkins of Richmond, Jo Ann and Ronnie Whitlow of Montpelier, Alice Faye and Clyde Powell of Glen Allen; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Blanch Laws and Lois Stowe, both of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hood of Victoria, Eula May Miller of Jarratt and Alice Willis of Richmond; one brother-in-law, Carl Miller of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Victoria Baptist Church and the Women's Auxiliary of Lunenburg County VFW Post 9954. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Staples Funeral Home, Victoria, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 8, 2 p.m. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria, Virginia.

NEXSEN
Walter Nexsen, 87, of 948 Rothowood Road, Lynchburg, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002. Mr. Nexsen was born January 1, 1915 in Lynchburg. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Lang Nexsen; his daughter, Michael Nexsen Robertson and husband, Charles H. Robertson Jr., M.D. of Richmond; and two sons, William W. Nexsen and wife, Mary Lou Giermak of Norfolk and W. Randolph Nexsen and wife, Ferrell Teague Nexsen of Lynchburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Brett, Lang and Ryan Robertson, William, Brandon and Whitney Nexsen, and Court, Gray and Meg Nexsen. He attended Lynchburg public schools, graduating from E.C. Glass High School in 1933 and the University of Virginia School of Architecture in 1937. He was associated in the practice of architecture with Pendleton S. Clark, S. Preston Craighill, Wiley and Wilson and Clark, Nexsen, Owen, Barbieri and Gibson. He retired as Chairman of the Board of C.N.O.B.G. Architects and Engineers in 1986 with offices in Lynchburg, Norfolk, Madrid, Spain and Charlotte, N.C. During World War II, he was with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Europe from 1943 to 1946 and was discharged in 1951 with the rank of Major. He was president of the Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church, member of the board of Jones Memorial Library, member of Boonsboro Country Club, Princess Anne Country Club and Kiwanas Club. A memorial service will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2002 with the Reverend Frank Gasque Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence today from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 200 Boston Avenue, Lynchburg, Va. 24503, Jones Memorial Library, 2311 Memorial Avenue, Lynchburg, Va. 24501 or a charity of your choice. NOFFSINGER
Mrs. Ouida Boguess Noffsinger, 96, formerly of Gaithersburg, Md., died Thursday, September 4, 2002 in Newport News, Va. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore J. Noffsinger Sr. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Kay and Alton Owen of Jarratt, Va.; her sons, Dr. Theodore J. Noffsinger Jr. and wife, Shirley of Easton, Md., Martin Wesley Noffsinger and wife, Frances of Newport News, Va., Timothy G. Noffsinger and wife, Susan of Middletown, Md. and Thomas W. Noffsinger and Kathleen of Deltaville, Va.; 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

OVERTON
Peggy Jean Bell Overton, age 58, of Hickory St., departed this life Saturday, August 31, 2002 at MCV Hospital. Peggy is the widow of the late John Overton. She is survived by a devoted and faithful son, John Tyrice Overton; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Overton of Christianburg, Va.; two precious grandsons, Jonathan and Chase Overton; four devoted and loving sisters, Mrs. Maggie Batts of Rocky Mount, N.C., Mrs. Vera Bell Davis, Ms. Mary R. and Ms. Joyce M. Bell; three loving brothers, Mr. Joseph Bell of Rocky Mount, N.C., Mr. Tom and Mr. James M. Bell Sr.; two devoted sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annie Bell of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Mrs. Jean Bell of Richmond; one devoted brother-in-law, Mr. John E. Davis Jr. of Richmond; many devoted and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Overton worked many years at the Home Care by Professional, Inc. as a private health care assistant. PIERRE-LOUIS
On Thursday morning, August 29, 2002, an angel came and gently carried Arlyne Sarah Pierre-Louis to Jesus. Her life on earth was all too short, only three years, one month and eleven days. She was blessed on this earth by two wonderful parents, Arly and Josie Pierre-Louis who will forever cherish the joy Arlyne brought into their lives. Along with her parents, one sister, Josly; and two brothers, Alain Davidson (David) and Emmanuel Darly survive her. Paternal grandparents, Mr. Joseph L. Pierre-Louis of Cap-Haitien, Haiti and Mrs. Elvire Blot Pierre-Louis, Brooklyn, N.Y.; maternal grandparents, Mr. Edner Seraphin and Mrs. Ghislaine Seraphin of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Also surviving are, Betty Pierre-Louis, Jocelyn Mathieu and husband, Gessie Gracia and husband, Claude Seraphin and Mary Christo Seraphin; aunts and uncles; godmother, Danielle Ducartel; and godfather, Rev. Jerome Pratt; along with a host of cousins and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, September 7, 11 a.m., Brown Grove Baptist Church, 12816 Bailey Bridge Road. Pastor Andrew T. Carey officiating. Interment church cemetery. After 9:30 a.m. remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service. Troy Keith Powell, 36, of Richmond, passed away September 3, 2002. Survivors include his daughter, Allison K. Powell; and her mother, Darlene Powell; and a stepson, Matthew, all of Highland Springs. He is also survived by his parents, Barbara J. and Willard K. Powell; also many other family members and friends. Services private. Contributions may be made to the American Arthritis Association. Ellis Hamilton Putney, 92, of Richmond, formerly of Big Island, Va., died September 4, 2002. He was preceded in death by two sons, Sonny and Steve Putney. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Brown Putney; two daughters, Julia Putney-Brandt and her husband, Bill Brandt and Joan Putney and her husband, John Bennett; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Mary Mays Slagle, 84, of Stony Creek, died Thursday, September 5, 2002. She was the widow of Alfred Augustus Slagle Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Gayle S. Clark of Stony Creek and Ellen S. Miller of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Susan C. Chappell of Stony Creek, Kevin H. Clark of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Dean T. Peele of Annandale, Va and Mary Britton Peele of Williamsburg; great-grandson, Brandon Clark Chappell of Stony Creek; brother, James W. Mays of New York City, N.Y. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.
