LEGAT
Mildred P. (Midge) Legat, age 65, of Hopewell, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude Rawlings Perry and the late Noah Reddin Perry Sr. Mrs. Legat was born in Brooklyn, New York but lived most of her life in Hopewell and Salem, Virginia. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in Salem and attended the Pan American School of Business in Richmond. Mrs. Legat was employed as the secretary to the city manager in Hopewell prior to starting her family. Later she began her long term career as a teacher assistant in the Hopewell Public School System at Patrick Copeland School, Arlington School and Harry E. James School, all in Hopewell, retiring in November 1996. Midge was an avid bowler and enjoyed many years of bowling in local area leagues as well as tournaments around the State. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Legat of Hopewell; a son, David Bruce Legat; a daughter, Lisa Legat Fuzy and her husband, Victor Eugene Fuzy Jr., all of Prince George; seven grandchildren, Tasha Legat of Chester, Jamie Legat, Cole Legat, Tyler Legat, Kelly Fuzy, Kristy Fuzy and Kori Fuzy, all of Prince George; and a brother, Noah R. "Buddy" Perry Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Appomattox Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Alex Roberts, pastor of Unity Baptist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Suite E, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834-3547 or the Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, Illinois 60611-1676.

McCLENNY
E.G. Mack McClenny, age 85, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Belle McClenny. He is survived by his wife, Edna H. McClenny; his children, Donald O. McClenny and his wife, Shirley and Robert L. McClenny and his wife, Nancy; six grandchildren, Sheryl Gibson, Donna Griffin, John, Ted, Jeff and Jason McClenny; also four great-grandchildren. Mr. McClenny was a retired insurance agent with Nationwide and a homebuilder. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Ridge Baptist Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridge Baptist Church (Catch the Vision) or to Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.

MENZER
Sarah Elizabeth McElroy Menzer, 89, a former editor in the Human Resources Division at George Washington University, died of congestive heart failure November 5, 2001, at Regional Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She was born in Washington, D.C. on October 25, 1912, spent her early years here, and graduated from George Washington University. She resided in Urbanna, Va. for 30 years, and for the past 12 years in Richmond. Her husband, Herman R. Menzer, died in 1991. She is survived by one son, Herman R. Menzer Jr. of Rockville; two daughters, Elizabeth Weilacher of Potomac and Virginia Perrella of Berkeley, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Services and interment private.

MIZELL
Helen Richards Mizell, 85, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001. She had been at a local nursing home since January of this year until a recent period of hospitalization. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, John G. Mizell; one son, John G. Mizell Jr. and daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Hannigan Mizell; two grandsons, J. Grant Mizell III and Page Thomas Mizell; and several nieces and nephews. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she was a lifelong resident of Richmond. She worked as a cashier at the former Bellevue Theater during her husband's absence on military duty during World War II, and she was a 50-year member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a member of the following organizations: Areme Chapter No. 17 of the Order of the Eastern Star; Scottish Rite Woman's Club; and The Ladies Cardinal Club of Craft 92, National Federated Craft. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 8 at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Interment will be private on Friday with a memorial service held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9 at Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd., Richmond, Va. 23221. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church; the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, Greenville, S.C.; The Scottish Rite's Childhood Language Center at Richmond, Inc., Richmond, Va. 23227; or to the Virginia Baptist Children's Home and Family Services, P.O. Box 849, Salem, Va. 24153.

PARHAM
Sylvester (Fats) Milton Parham, age 37, formerly of 1606 Albany Ave., died November 4, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Josephine Parham and is survived by his wife, Vivian C. Parham; four sisters, Lillie Crawley, Marjorie Wilson, Shirley Lewis and Laverne Parham; two brothers, Wilbur Miller and Lewis Parham Jr.; a brother-in-law, Irvin Wilson; five aunts, two uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St., where funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. Rev. C.L. Cabarrus officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. PHILLIPS
Spc. Latonya Phillips, U.S. Army, of Richmond, Va. departed this life suddenly on Thursday, November 1, 2001 in Yongson, Korea while serving in the armed forces. Funeral notice to follow.

PRIDE
Drewry Benjamin Pride, 90, of Chesterfield, died Monday, November 5, 2001 at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield. He was the son of the late Walter Drewry and Hester Dance Pride, and was the widower of Mildred Jones Pride. He was a retired purchasing agent for E.I. DuPont and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. Mr. Pride is survived by two daughters, Judy Pride McAdams of Singer Island, Fla., Diane Pride Harris of Richmond, Va.; and a son, Walter Drewry Pride Sr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Denise Lynn McAdams of Richmond, Bryan Keith McAdams of Partlow, Va., Walter Drewry Pride Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Kristin Michelle Harris of Williamsburg and Justin Phillip Harris of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Michael Walter Pride, Steven Michael Pride and Cassidy Danielle McAdams. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2001, in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, with Rev. Wayne Johnson and Dr. Jeff Ginn officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

SMILEY
Wilson Dallas "Bubba" Smiley, 43, of Richmond, passed Tuesday, November 6, 2001. He is survived by his father and mother, Forrest and Lulu Taylor; loving grandmother, Helen Taylor; three sisters, Carolyn Frazier, Sandra McKenney and Barbara Ford; one brother, David Smiley; and a dear friend, Steven Nine; 11 nephews and nieces. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

SMITH
John Daniel Smith Jr., 66, of Franklin, Va., retired manager of Coastal Chemical Company, died November 6, 2001 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Lancaster, Va., he was a son of the late John Daniel Smith Sr. and Eloise Curtis Smith. An Army veteran and a 1959 graduate of VPI with a degree on Agronomy, he had been with Coastal Chemical since 1967 and his passion was working with farmers, crops and people. John loved the outdoors and fishing, especially in the Chesapeake Bay. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Eustace Smith; a daughter, Dr. Kathy Smith of Athens, Ga.; a son, J.D. Smith III and his wife, Yvette of Sedley; two sisters, Eloise S. Mallon and her husband, Ron of North, Va.; and Marian S. Pouchot and her husband, Rev. David A. Pouchot of Belfast, Maine; a brother, Zay Curtis Smith and his wife, Lilian Ann of Warsaw, Va.; and a grandson, J. Daniel Smith IV. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. David A. Pouchot officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. STANFORD
Mary Anne Stanford, of Galax, Va., died Tuesday, November 6, 2001. She was born December 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Wagstaff and Mamie Dance Wagstaff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W.J. "Jack" Stanford; and by a son, Thomas Stanford. Mary Anne was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with a degree in nursing. She assisted her husband, Dr. Jack Stanford, in his medical practice in Galax and taught nursing for many years. She is survived by a granddaughter, Mary Beth Stanford of Roanoke, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Evelyn Wagstaff; and a sister, Nancy Wagstaff, all of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Stanford of Galax; a nephew, Dr. Joe Wagstaff of Charlottesville; and a niece, Mary Catherine Wagstaff of Los Angeles, Calif. A graveside service will be held in Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax, Va. at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2001. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. STEWARD
Departed this life November 6, 2001, Frank Steward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lealer Steward. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Braxton and her husband, Alex; two grandchildren, Malinda Braxton-Roane and Thaddaues T. Braxton of Charleston, S.C.; a host of great-grandchildren, one devoted, Maurice Braxton; foster children, Shewn and Renee; sisters-in-law, Helen Miller and Irean McCall; brother-in-law, Richard Hatcher; a host of other relatives and friends. Catherine Jerman Mason Straus departed this life November 5, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Vilma Maxine Mason; two sons, William "Billy" and Reginald "Redd" Mason; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvester Bracey; one sister, Grace Eltheridge; three nieces, six nephews, one aunt, one daughter-in-law, other relatives and friends. Jane R. Walk of the Hermitage at Cedarfield died Wednesday, November 7, 2001. She was the widow of Paul W. Walk and is survived by two sons, Paul W. Walk Jr. and John R. Walk; four grandchildren, Sarah P. Walk, John R. Walk Jr., Whitney Clay Walk and Paul W. Walk III. On Monday, October 8, 2001, Harold Keith Allen departed this life and ascended to eternal sleep. Earl Bowman "Red" Boyer, age 72, of Manassas, Va., died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at his home of an apparent heart attack. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Hazel Boyer; one daughter, Connie Ann Boyer; two sons, David Bowman Boyer and Thomas Earl Boyer and his wife, Kelly; four nieces, three nephews, and many cousins, most of whom live in the Front Royal, Berryville and Winchester area. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2001 at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. A service of celebration and remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Rd., Manassas with Rev. Rudy Tucker and Rev. Denise Childers officiating. Interment will be at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, Va., followed by a reception at the church.
