CRAIG
Catherine L. Craig, 91, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2001. She was the widow of Charles F. Craig and was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles L. "Boo" Craig Jr. She is survived by her son, Charles L. Craig Sr. and his wife, Frances; sister, Grace Gibbs Connelly; grandchildren, Cynthia Craig La Fratta, Sharon L. Pierce, John Michael Craig Sr., Christopher D. Craig Sr. and Laura Craig Quillian; 12 and a half great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment at Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Bensley-Bermuda Rescue Squad, 2600 Rio Vista Rd., Chester, Va. 23831.

CROSS
Interment services for Robert Cross, brother of Mrs. Alberta Grimes of Ashland, will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Shiloh Cemetery. The Dabneys' Morticians in charge of arrangements.

DABNEY
Charles T. Dabney Sr., age 84, of Little Plymouth, Va., departed this life Sunday, March 11, 200l. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vernice S. Dabney; three sons, Charles T. Dabney, Jr., Vertram D. Dabney, and Dyron K. Dabney; a brother, Jacob Dabney; a sister, Hattie Mishoe; a mother-in-law, Vena Shackleford-Artis; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church, Hockley. Interment will follow at Escobrook Baptist Church, Mattaponi.

DANDRIDGE
Charles "Tree" Dandridge, formerly of Richmond, Va., departed this life March 14, 2001, in New York City. He is survived by his devoted companion, Evangeline "Bea" Dandridge; six living children, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vernell L. Peters of Richmond, Va., and Ann E. Phillips of Brooklyn, New York; a host of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 12 noon, March 17 from Riverton Funeral Home, 131 W. 135th St., New York, N.Y.

ELLIOTT
Mary Harlan Dickey Elliott, 94, of Midlothian, Va., widow of Joseph B. Elliott Sr., and daughter of the late Annie Roberts and Howard Harlan Dickey of Cumberland, Md., passed away March 13, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann E. and her husband, Warner H. Moore of Richmond, Elizabeth E. and her husband, Thomas W. Cobbledick of Harborside, Maine; son, Joseph B. Elliott Jr. and his wife, Katherine of Columbia, S.C.; and Lynda B. Elliott of Westchester, Pa.; also 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Elliott was a former board member of the Presbyterian Children's Village in Rosemont, Pa., and past president of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to History House, 218 Washington St., Cumberland, Md. 21502.

EPPES
Edward Mitchell Eppes III, age 78, of Lively, Va., died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Janie Will Eppes; his daughter and her husband, Margaret Eppes and Theodore M. Curtis Jr., Kilmarnock, Va., and his daughter, Anne E. Cowdrey, Richmond, Va.; three stepchildren, Jack Kelly Johnston Jr., Margaret Johnston Magill and Mathew Will Johnston, all of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church, Lively, Va. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Whitechapel Preservation Fund, 5940 Whitechapel Road, Lancaster, Va. 22503.

Mrs. Pearl Fisher of 11308 River Rd., Chesterfield, departed this life Thursday morning, March 15, 2001, at her residence. Remains rest at Tucker's Funeral Home. Arrangements to be announced by Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.

GUNTER
Ruth S. Gunter of Charles City passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Linwood Gunter; her son, Melvin Hall Sr.; her daughter, Joyce Bonjean; one brother, Boyd C. Smith; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gunter was retired from General Motors with 31 years of service and was a member of Samaria Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

HAMILTON
Mary Meadows Hamilton, 74, of Richmond, died Monday, March 12, 2001. She was the widow of William Walter Hamilton Jr. Survived by her sons, Wayne Hamilton and Thomas E. Hamilton, both of Richmond; a sister, Charlotte Chivilcik of Roseburg, Ore.; three grandchildren, Lora Suzanne Hamilton, Michael Brooks Hamilton and Sara Parker Hamilton. Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, William Meadows Sr., Raymond A. Meadows and Lena Lipp. Remains rest at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, where the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. Graveside service will be held Friday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Miles E. Hench died at home in Tampa, Fla., on March 7, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Virginia E. Hench and Carol H. Valentine; son, Thomas G. Hench; son-in-law, James H. Valentine; grandchildren, Willsey R. Valentine and Daniel Hench Valentine; and sister, Rowena K. Willsey. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Miles E. Ms. Yvonne Herring of Richmond died March 11, 2001. Sadie Madgalene Hines entered eternal rest March 14, 2001. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Jones; one brother, Jimmie Jiggetts. Cherishing her memory are her eight daughters, Sadie, Sylvia, Alexandria, Wanda, Genoveve, Connie, Daisy and Trana; two sisters, Alice Williams and Carrie Wooldridge; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sons-in-law; one brother-in-law, Thomas Williams; 22 nieces and nephews; devoted cousins, Mae and Starr Pickens, Tyece Jiggetts; a loyal friends, Russell Smith; best friends, Eileen Jones and Susie Wilson; the entire Crusade for Christ family; and a host of other relatives and friends. On Monday, March 12, 2001, Deaconess Pearl L. Jones, 86, of Richmond, Va., departed this life at Medlink Hospital and Nursing Home, Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Walter E. Slaughter of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Rosa Smith of Temple Hills, Md. and Cornelia Swift of Charlottesville, Va.; nieces, Peggy T. Williams of Danville, Va., Camelia Farrar of Charlottesville, Christine Walker of Temple Hills, Md., Frances Slaughter and Marquita Slaughter-Cook, both of Washington, D.C.; nephews, Howard "Frankie" Swift of Charlottesville, Va. and Gregory "Butch" Slaughter of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Melinda Hodge Johnson, 49, of Rockville, Va., exchanged this fleeting and fragile mortal existence for richly deserved Angel Wings March 12, 2001. Melinda's love of life, infectiously friendly smile and spirit, immeasurable courage and undaunted faith in her family, friends and her spirituality were an inspiration for many and will be deeply missed by us all. Melinda was especially saddened to be leaving her beloved grandchildren, Gregory and Jessica Kiwak so prematurely. She leaves a family filled with sadness but comforted in the knowledge she will now be an angel for all of us: husband of 23 years, Ben F. Johnson; and his children, Ben Jr., Theresa and husband, Greg, Carolyn and husband, Randy; mother, Betty Driscoll and husband, Bob of Richmond; brother, Steve Hodge of Charlottesville; and sister-in-spirit, Gloria Wright and husband, Guy of Waynesboro and sons, Mike and Patrick and daughter, Kristi. Melinda was preceded in her journey by her father, Julian Hodge of Afton and Waynesboro, Va., where she was born and attended school. Friends and family will gather in her honor on Thursday and Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street. Laura A. Jones, 86, of 4602 Jan Road, formerly of 1627 N. 35th St., died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She was the widower of David Jones Sr. and was preceded in death by her son, David Jones Jr. She is survived by five sons, Charles Anderson, Thomas, Irvin, Timothy, and Frederick Jones; three daughters, Caroline J. Woolfolk, Mary J. Henderson, and Robinette J. Boulware; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law, other relatives and friends, among them, devoted Irene Bagby. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street, where funeral services will be held Saturday, 3:30 p.m. Rev. R. Alexander Chavis officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

MAIDA
Elsie Helen Maida, nee Hilton, 91, of Richmond, born August 17, 1909, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, John; sisters, Dorothy, Winifred, Jane, Mabel, Marjorie; brother, Clifford; and parents, Bertha and Alexander Hilton. She was the devoted mother of John, Linda Youngs and Diane Gironda; devoted grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of seven; dear aunt to June Leonardo, Maryl Hughes, and many other nieces and nephews. Known for her kindness, self-sacrifice, quick wit and sense of humor, Elsie will be greatly missed by all who were blessed with her acquaintance. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Graveside service 3 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
