Morrisette; three stepsons, Jerry Culler of Charlotte, N.C., Randy and Mike Culler, both of Concord, N.C.; two half brothers, Gregory Morrisette of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Thomas Morrisette of Virginia Beach. Service 11 a.m. Saturday at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Blackbridge. Interment in church cemetery with V.F.W. military Honors. Visitation Friday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Memorial contributions to the Church Building Fund, 5223 Blackridge Road, Blackridge, Va. 23950.

Departed this life March 12, 2001, Mr. Melvin Leroy Morton Sr. of Richmond. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Michelle Chambers and Marcia Renea Morton; one son, Melvin Leroy Morton Jr.; three grandsons, Dennis and JoVan Chambers and Jaylen M. Morton; devoted mother, Viola C. Morton; two brothers, Charles Andrew and Aubrey S. Morton Jr.; five sisters, Joan M. Brunson, Gloria M. Rodwell, Carol M. Harris, Joyce M. Miles, Sandra M. Chavis; his former wife, Jeannette L. Morton; four sisters-in-law, Doris S., Viola B., Rev. Patricia C. and Azile Morton; four brothers-in-law, Leroy Brunson Sr., Charlie Rodwell, Carlton Harris, and Alan Chavis; one son-in-law, Marvin J. Chambers; six aunts, three uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street, where the family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8 p.m. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 12 Noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 P Street, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell interim pastor. Eulogy by Rev. Selwyn Q. Bachcus. Burial Monday 11:30 a.m. Quantico National Cemetery.

MURPHY
William Henry "Duke" Murphy of Mechanicsville died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Elizabeth Murphy; two children, Colleen Murphy of Philadelphia, William Henry Murphy III and his wife, Diedre of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Murphy of Green Bay, Va.; six grandchildren; two stepchildren, James Vincent Nocilla and his wife, Marianne of New Jersey, Tracy Ann Comis and her husband, Ricky of New York; four stepgrandchildren; a sister, Grace Farwell and her husband, Lloyd of Camarillo, Calif. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Old Church Hunt Club and the Cold Harbor Ruritan Club. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your favorite charity.

OVERTON
Clara M. Overton of 7918 Capistrano Dr. died March 11, 2001. Surviving are two sons, Troy and Tony Overton; mother, Alice S. Guthrie; three brothers, Samuel Walker, Arthur and Larry Guthrie, all of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Ruby Cole of Chicago, Ill., and Berta Guthrie of Richmond; host of nieces and nephews, two devoted, Desiree Hill and Jacquelin Walker; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Saturday 1:30 p.m. Rev. Ronald Taylor officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

PATTERSON
Edith E. Patterson of Gloucester, formerly of Louisa County, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She is survived by her children, Charles Brooks Jr. of Gloucester, Mary Ann Askew of Bumpass and Alice Brooks of Charlottesville; two brothers, Buck and Tom Perry of Louisa County; three sisters, Virginia Henshaw of Ashland, Minnie Meeks and Georgia Ann Becker, both of Louisa County; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Lacy Funeral Home, Route 522, Mineral, Va., where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa.

PATTERSON
Departed this life March 15, 2001, Mrs. Eloise Patterson of 331 Norcroft Circle. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street. Funeral notice later.

PRETLOW
Departed this life March 14, 2001, Mrs. Blanche V. Pretlow of 2913 Northumberland Ave. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pretlow. She is survived by four grandchildren, Loretta Coleman, Lucette Goodwyn, Leroy and Anthony Coleman; five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins; one sister-in-law, Thelma Pretlow; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Saturday, 1 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2811 Fendall Ave., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. A. Lincoln James, Pastor, officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

RHODES
Mrs. Ralph E. (Nelle S.) Rhodes, 85, of Richmond, widow of Ralph E. Rhodes, died Thursday, March 15, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Nellie Pratz Stephenson, and is survived by two sons, R. Edward Rhodes and his wife, Carol H., R. Stephenson Rhodes; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brand Rhodes, Paul Stephenson Rhodes; two nephews, Pat and Bruce Poulson. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church, where she was the substitute organist. She was a member of the Old Dominion Chapter of DAR and had held many offices on the national and state level, including Past Chaplain General-NS DAR, Past Vice-President General-NS-DAR, and Honorary State Regent-Va.-DAR. Mrs. Rhodes was also a member of the Colonial Dames, National Society of the Magna Carta, the Monocan Woman's Club and The Country Club of Virginia. In addition, she was a retired piano teacher and had played the organ for dinner music at the Henry Clay Hotel in Ashland, Ky. and the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Her family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at All Saint's Episcopal Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tamassee DAR School, Inc., P.O. Box 8, Tamasee, S.C. 29686 or the Memorial Fund at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd., Richmond, Va.

RICE
Frances Marion Rice, age 100, departed this life on March 13, 2001, in Richmond, Va. Preceded in death by her spouse, Russell H. Rice Sr.; and her only son, Russell H. Rice Jr., she is survived by three grandchildren, C. Scott Rice, Chad T. Rice and Marchelle Marsalek; and one great-grandchild, Justin Rice. Mrs. Rice was a nurse in Muncie, Ind., which she frequently commented was an endeavor that brought her a lot of joy. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association. A graveside service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery in Bloomington, Ind., at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2001, with her nephew, the Reverend Ellis Crum, officiating.

ROBERTS
Louise Coleman Roberts, 84, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, William N. Roberts; two brothers, Robert Lee "Bob" Coleman Sr. and Holton P. Coleman; and a sister, Virginia C. Peace. She is survived by a sister, Mary Coleman Holt; a favorite aunt, Vernelle Adams; several nieces and nephews; and her loving neighbors, Olive and Stanley Litwinowicz. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. ROBERTS
Mildred B. Roberts, 81, widow of Clarence M. Roberts, passed away on March 14, 2001. She was born on December 19, 1919. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Clarence and Judy Roberts of Dinwiddie, Wayne and Linda Roberts of Brodnax, and Donald and Doris Roberts of Spring Hill, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Wendy, Leigh, Mark, Tammy, Donald Jr., David and Shelley; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Ashley, Wesley and Faith; two brothers and their wives, James and Vivian Bracey and Thomas and Lucy Bracey; a devoted sister-in-law, Rachael Morgan; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret B. Taylor. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Farrar Funeral Home. Memorial considerations may be directed to the Cancer Relay for Life or the South Hill Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 1105 W. Danville St., South Hill, Va. 23970. SAVEDGE
Mrs. Anna Spiers Savedge, 90, widow of A.T. Savedge, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roxane S. and Nelson Birkhimer; granddaughter, Faye B. Webb; sister, Essie S. O'Neal of Kinston, N.C.; two nieces and three nephews. Mrs. Savedge was a longtime member of Berryman United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be conducted Friday, 2 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

SCOTT
Bobby Scott Sr. of 3305 Garland Ave. died March 14, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Shirley R. Scott; three sons, Bobby Jr., Jerrell, and Darryl Scott; a daughter, Shonell Scott; granddaughter, Michelle Scott; two sisters, Doris Sherrod, and Regina Penalvel; grandfather, Clyde Campbell; father and mother-in-law, Prentice and Gracy Ratliff; godparents, John and Evelyn Miles; three nieces, two nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Cedar Street Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 Cedar St., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dr. Benjamin W. SEARS
Maurice Edward Sears, 70, of Richmond, passed away March 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Lucille S. Sears; a daughter, Margie Jean Nunnally; four stepchildren, Robert Allen Poe, John Garland Poe, Roger Garland and Becky Garland Anderson; a brother, Stanley Sears; two sisters, Mabel Owens and Myrtle; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sears retired from Reynolds Metals Co. after 40 years of service. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

SIMMONS
Departed this life March 14, 2001, Martha Virginia Simmons. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Thaddeus Simmons of Windsor, S.C., and Barnell Simmons of Bath, S.C.; two daughters, Joyce Marie and Christine Simmons, both of Richmond; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth McKinnon (Owen) and Rosetta Hardin; one half sister, Martina "Tina" Phillips; one daughter-in-law, Louella Simmons of South Carolina; a host of other relatives and friends, three devoted, Geneva Simmons, Shirley Rogers and Helen Thompson; and her special companion of many years, Samuel Stokes. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, 11 a.m., with Gonzalee Martin officiating. Interment services will be held Monday at Sunset Memory Gardens (South Carolina).

Helen Bolling Sims, 83, of Goochland, Va., departed this life March 15, 2001. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland. Funeral notice later.
