McPETERS
Edwin Olin McPeters, 74, of Chesterfield, departed this life to be with his wife and God on February 2, 2002. He was the widower of Doris Lenhart McPeters and is survived by three sons, Steven Ray and his wife, De, Keith Edwin and his wife, Catherine, and Lynn Jeffrey and his wife, Susan; four grandchildren, Caitlyn, William, Kelsey and Charles; and brothers, Rondel and Neil McPeters. Mr. McPeters retired from Overnite Transportation Company, was a member of Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment in Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church or Lucy Corr Nursing Home.

MICHAEL
Nora Jarrett Michael, age 97, of Richmond, died January 31, 2002 at the Masonic Home of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Forrest Michael; and son, Elmer Jarrett Michael. She is survived by her son, Jack A. Michael and his wife, Martha; and daughter-in-law, Carol J. Michael, all of Richmond; four grandchildren, Jay Parrish, Alan Michael, Amy Patterson and Paul Michael; also eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Graveside services will be held Monday 1 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va.

MOSELEY
Daniel W. Moseley of Richmond departed this life January 30, 2002. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary E. Moseley and Margaret M. Poindexter Norrell; and brother, William Thomas Moseley. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Lillian DeLaney Moseley; brother, John M. Moseley of New Rochelle, N.Y. Other loving family members include several nieces and nephews, Margaret P. Howlette, Elsie M. Hardwick (John), Dannette M. Gates (Edward), Hazel Tooms (Herbert), Gloria Williams, Creed Smith (Barbara), Horace Smith (Charlene), John DeLaney (Toni), Sheldon Lewis (William), LaVador Wade (Keith); sisters-in-law, Elsie M. Moseley, Gussie Moseley; and brother-in-law, William DeLaney (Susan); a host of great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Mr. Moseley was one of the founders of Garland Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Garland Ave., where the remains will lie in state Tuesday, February 5, 2002 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral at 12 noon, with Rev. Clifford B. Chambliss Jr. officiating. Horse drawn cortege to Oakwood Cemetery. .

PAUL
A beloved son and brother, Mark Winston Paul, 38, of Powhatan, died January 31, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Bette Jo and Ralph E. Paul; two sisters and their husband, Terry and Neil Sherman, Tracy and Paul Christman. He was a loving and cherished uncle to his niece and two nephews. His family and friends will remember his gernosity of spirit and love of life. Mark was an active member and Sunday school teacher of Open Door Baptist Church. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Open Door Baptist Church. Interment Powhatan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Open Door Baptist Church, 6255 Warwick Rd., Richmond, Va. 23224.

RAGLAND
Lawrence Carey Ragland, a native of Lawrenceville, Virginia and son of the late James Farley Ragland and the late Hattie Hamilton Ragland, died January 24, 2002 in New York City. Lawrence was a graduate of Amhurst College, Amhurst, Mass., where he received his B.A. degree in Mathematics. "Larry", as he was affectionately called, made his home in New York City. For several years, Larry joined the entertainment circuit as a vocalist, impressionist and comedian. At the time of his death, Larry was a commercial lines underwriter for S & M Kline Company in New York City. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Lucia R. Windley, Portsmouth, Va., Irma R. Moore (David), Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Leon C. Ragland (Karen), Suffolk, Va.; six nieces, two nephews, several cousins and many devoted friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 928 Effingham Street, Portsmouth, with the Reverend Dr. John O. Agbaje officiating. Services provided by Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, Virginia.

REESE
Hazel Evelyn Levitt Reese, 74, of Petersburg, died February 1, 2002 in Southside Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Reese was born in Brisbane, Australia, a daughter of the late Harold and Lillian Allison Levitt. Preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Taylor Reese; and a daughter, Marie Reese Urso. She is survived by a daughter, Lois Reese Rives of Midlothian; a grandson, Timothy Harrell of Colonial Heights; three granddaughters, Aimee Avery of Hopewell, Brooke Rives of Midlothian, Michelle Harrell of Colonial Heights; one great-granddaughter, Katie Bethe Avery of North Carolina; and two sons-in-law, Thomas Urso of Colonial Heights, and Andy Rives of Midlothian; two brothers, Neil and Brian Levitt; and a sister, Carol Whatley, all of Australia. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, in Blandford Cemetery, with Rev. Nellie Rodriguez officiating. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m.

RHAMING
Mary Brown Rhaming, 78, of Long Island, N.Y., formerly of Charles City, died February 1, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Rhaming; sister, Naomi B. Ross of Boston, Mass.; other relatives and friends. Upon arrival, remains will rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 11 a.m. Monday, Mrs. Rhaming will rest at Elam Baptist Church, Ruthville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Rev. James Johnson offciating. Burial church cemetery.

RIDGLEY
Edith Louise Mallory Ridgley of Ashland died Thursday, January 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lawrence Dorsey Ridgley; two daughters, Edith Joy and husband, James Thayer and Mary Jane and husband, Elmer Deffenbaugh; her sister, Elizabeth M. Blunt; three grandchildren, David and Mary Ellen Deffenbaugh and Kimberly D. Thayer. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Debora Ann Deffenbaugh. She was a life long member of Independence Christian Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Independence Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributors may be made to Independence Christian Church General Fund, 14023 Independence Road, Ashland, Va. 23005.

RODRIGUEZ
Edgar Mario Rodriguez of Richmond died in his home on Saturday, February 2, 2002. Ed was born in New York City on September 5, 1939 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an employee of the Richmond Times-Dispatch for 18 years and previously worked for the Miami Herald Publishing Co. in Miami, Fla. Ed is most remembered for his lively wit which was surpassed only by his compassionate heart and willingness to reach out to others. He is survived by his wife, Alice H. Rodriguez; and their sons, Michael Rodriguez of New York City, Scott Rodriguez and his wife, Mary of Miami, Fla., Harvey Hutchinson IV and his wife, Kathy, Eric A. Hutchinson and his wife, Shennel, all of Richmond; six grandchildren, Katie, Cameron, Treyson, Josh, Jacob and Samuel. He is also survived by one sister, Meg Weber and her husband, Paul of Baltimore, Md. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd., Glen Allen. Funeral arrangements later.

ROWE
Carl A. Rowe, a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant and trusted LSCO for 13 years with the Federal Court system, departed this life January 27, 2002 in his home in Mitchellville, Md. after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Stallings Rowe. Carl is survived by his devoted daughter, Dionne Renee Rowe; father, Edward L. Rowe Sr.; sister, Carolyn Benton (James); brother, Edward Rowe Jr. (Donna); three nieces, Monica Logan (Mark), Terese Hunter (Kevin), DeLynn Benton (Don); one nephew, Tyrone Rowe; three great-nieces, Jordan, Maya, Milan; three great-nephews, Malik, Michel, Hanif. He was a 1966 graduate of Maggie L. Walker H.S. Cremation and memorial services were private. RUSSELL
Mr. Johnie Edward Russell, 83, of Chesterfield, passed away on February 1, 2002. He was the widower of Claudia Talley Russell and is survived by his sister, Janie Russell Putze; several cousins in Danville; and his close friends, Walter and Dona Link, and Byrl and Jane May. Mr. Russell was a member of Chesterfield Lodge #161 AF&AM, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #10 and Friendship Baptist Church. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park.

RUSSELL
Departed this life on January 30, 2002, Lawrence Russell is survived by his devoted wife, Sister Betty Muhammad; sons, Lawrence Jr., James Russell; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Russell; a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside rites will be held at the Russell Family Cemetery, Glen Allen. Services provided by Chiles Funeral Home.

SHEARIN
Gracie Mae Shearin (Granny) of Varina, crossed over February 1, 2002 at the age of 88. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Dean and her husband, James; her son, Claude Shearin and his wife, Beverly; sister, Edith Edwards of Henderson, N.C.; granddaughter, Sherri Dyson; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis; her son, Jack; her grandson, Mark Stephenson; and seven siblings. The family will mourn the loss of this compassionate and loving woman who cared for others before she cared for herself. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., and where services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. SHEPPERSON
Joseph Frank Shepperson Jr., 82, passed away Friday, February 1, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette Shepperson, who died in 1992. Mr. Shepperson was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 10 for 60 years. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Tinsley and her husband, Ashby and Brenda Allen and her husband, Jimmy; two sisters, Marian Blankenship and Lois Flournoy; a devoted brother-in-law, Jimmy Blankenship; six grandchildren, Kelly and Nikki Allen, Chris Tinsley and his wife, Pam, Tim Tinsley and his wife, Melissa, Kerrie Stone and her husband, Sam and Rick Tinsley and his wife, Suzanne; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2002. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

THACKER
Elbridge Thacker, MSGT, US Army (Ret.), 82, of Petersburg, departed this life February 2, 2002. MSGT Thacker was born in Greasy Creek, Ky., a son of the late John Thacker and Lona Robinson and was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Akers. He served his country for 23 years in the Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and retired as a civil servant at Ft. Lee, Va. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Babette B. Thacker of Petersburg; two children and their spouses, Ralph E. Thacker and his wife, Rhonda S. of Carson, Wanda T. Bennett and her husband, Mark A. of Chester; three grandchildren, Brandy and Justin Thacker, Erica Bennett; three brothers, Edgar, James and Robert Fleming; two sisters, Pearl Taylor and Alice Murphy; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The interment with military honors will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

WALTERS
Robert W. Walters of Williamsburg, Va., beloved husband of Mary (Foster) Walters, passed away after a long illness on February 1, 2002. He was 76. Born in Whitestone, N.Y., to the late William and Mary Walters, Mr. Walters was a graduate of NYMA. During World War II, he served with the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific and in China as a forward observer. After the service, he was in the service and transportation industry in Lake Mohawk, N.J., where he met and married his wife. He was a founding member of the Sparta First Aid Squad. Mr. Walters was an active volunteer for the West Essex First Aid Squad in Caldwell, N.J. and was also very involved with the Boy Scouts in that area, eventually serving as district commissioner. He was an active member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Parish, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was President/CEO of Container Equipment Corporation (CECO). He served on the boards of Mt. St. Dominic Academy, Essex County Country Club, American Management Assoc. (AMA) and Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Inst. (PMMI), where he served as President in 1989. Survivors include his wife, Mary; and five children and their spouses, Robert W. Jr. and Jane of Atlanta, Joanne Meeley and Bill of Carmel, Ind., James P. and Pat of Wyomissing, Pa., Patricia A. Wilkerson and William of Richmond and William A. and Lizz of Denver; 11 grandchildren, Tricia, Kate, Patrick, Robert, Cristin, Elizabeth, Danny, Rachel, Annie, Emily and Mary. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Beardall; many, many relatives and friends. His sister, Aileen Sorenson predeceased him. Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Va. on Monday, February 4, 2002 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bede Roman Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Va. at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Bede Building Fund or to a charity of your choice.

WATKINS
Stanley Watkins of Chesterfield County departed this life Thursday, January 31, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Watkins; grandmother, Mrs. Beatrice Jordan of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 1 p.m., Amazing Grace World Fellowship, 6800 Lucy Corr Boulevard. Rev. Linwood Carroll, pastor, officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Monday, 12:30 p.m.

WILLIAMS
Catherine M. Williams passed away January 31, 2002 at the age of 78. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Norwood and her husband, Tommy; her son, Carson Williams and his wife, Rose; four grandchildren, Mary Catherine and Jamie Norwood and Ashley and Lauren Williams, all of Mechanicsville; also one sister, Sylvia M. Holt of Charlotte County, Va.; four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Montrose Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to Montrose Presbyterian Church. Family and Friends may sign the Memorial Guestbook at www.nelsenfh.com.

WINSTON
Mrs. Caroline H. Winston of Richmond departed this life February 2, 2002. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.
