CONNER
Miriam W. Conner, 68, of Chesterfield, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 18, 2002. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harris O. Conner Sr. Left behind to cherish her memories are four loving children, one daughter, Diane Harvey and husband, Jerry; three sons, Harris (Sonny) Conner Jr. and wife, Brenda, Ronald Conner and wife, Pat, Allen Conner and wife, Donna; and stepdaughter, Teresa Blackwell and husband, Will; a brother-in-law, Paul Conner; ten special grandchildren, Katherine, Butch, Cindy, Amanda, Chris, Jay, Ashley, Katie, Michael and Mattie; four great-grandchildren, Robbie, Chucky, Ronnie and Devon; and a loving, devoted friend, Dorthy Crouch. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 2 p.m. Tuesday. Entombment Dale Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 10230 Hull Street Rd., Midlothian, Va. 23112.

CREASY
Carl Edwin Creasy, age 57, of Jetersville, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Janet; stepsons, Charles Creasy of Jetersville, James R. Parrish of Amelia and Donald Ray Mayhew of Lynchburg; stepdaughter, Phyllis Ballinger of Jetersville; brother, Donald Creasy of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St. A chapel service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22 at the funeral home with burial in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery. ELLIS
Ann Luttrell Ellis died Thursday, January 17, 2002 after suffering a stroke. Born in 1917, the daughter of Annie Mae and Ralph Luttrell, Ann grew up in Richmond's south side. She attended John Marshall High School, where she excelled as a student and was active in the Scotties, a social club. She met Arnold Ellis at J.M. and they were married after Arnold's graduation from VMI. After the war, Arnold returned to Richmond and they bought a home near Forest Hill Park. Ann was active in church and civic organizations. She was instrumental in supporting the formation of Richmond's canine police unit. Ann and Arnold became "Mother Ann" and "Pop" with the birth of their two granddaughters, Stephanie and Andrea Ellis. In time she would see those grandchildren have children of their own. She spent New Year's Day 2002 with great-grandchildren Catherine, Hunter and Emma Churchman and Aubrey Ann and Martha Thomas. She will be remembered by her family as "Mother Ann" and it was her role as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that brought her happiness and pride. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Monday, January 21 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd or its school.

FITCHETT
T. Somerset Fitchett, retired Army Air Corps. January 17, 2002. Survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dillon Fitchett; one daughter, Elizabeth Karen Maccabee; and a son, Michael Somerset; granddaughter, Kelly S. Pierce. Services private.

FOUNTAINE
Mrs. Evelyn C. Fountaine, 86, of Richmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 9, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Bolling and Irene S. Whitlock; two stepsons, Walter and Martin Fountaine; one sister, Marteal Stanton of Springfield, Md.; son-in-law, Karl D. Bolling Sr.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Sharon Baptist Church, First and Leigh Sts., on Saturday, January 26, at 2 p.m. The family may be contacted at 2816 Eagle Trace Terrace, Richmond, Va. 23228.

FULGHUM
Seaton Bloodworth Fulghum, born November 30, 1939, and entered into eternal rest January 18, 2002. He was the son of the late Erin B. and Henderson Franklin Fulghum. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Franklin Green Fulghum; his son, Mark Fulghum and his wife, Cheryl, and their children, Rachel, Carter and Jessica; his son, Andy Fulghum and his wife, Sandy and their children, Cameron, Nathan, Matthew and Alysa; his sister, Frances Poehler of West Palm Beach, Fla. Seaton graduated from Douglas Freeman High School, Virginia military Institute and Virginia Commonwealth University. He taught school in Richmond in Richmond City, American Samoa, and Henrico County Public Schools where he taught chemistry at Hermitage High School and from which he retired in 1997. He was also a church musician, playing the organ for 50 years. He retired from Fork Church as an organist and choirmaster in 2001. Prior to this, he was the organist and choirmaster at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church for many years. A memorial service celebrating him and his life will be held Monday, January 21, 2002, 2 p.m. at Fork Church, Doswell, Va., followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. The burial will be private. FURR
Charles D. Furr, 63, of Richmond, died at UVA Medical Center on January 13, 2002. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Catherine Keefe Furr; his children, Tony, Amy and Lori Ann; his brother, Mack Furr of Charlotte, N.C.; his four sisters, Betty Helms of Surfside Beach, S.C., Ruby Greene, Shirley Helms and Brenda Moore, all of Charlotte, N.C. The family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to please consider becoming an organ donor. By those who knew him, he will be missed.

GALLAGHER
James F. Gallagher, 73, of Richmond, died Saturday, January 19, 2002. He was the widower of Ann E. Gallagher, and is survived by his five children, Lt. Col. James J. Gallagher and his wife, Deborah, Mary G. Cary and her husband, Stanley, Julie Ann Gallagher, and William P. (Bill) Gallagher and fiancee', Jill R. Rosenberg; five grandchildren, Christopher Dooley, Claire and Stephen Cary, and Jordan and Logan Gallagher; one sister, Marianne Dougherty. A Mass of The Celebration of Life will be held 11 am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service. Mr. Gallagher was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a substitute teacher for many years in Henrico County's west end middle and high schools, owned and operated a chain of 23 laundry and dry cleaning stores, was a gentleman farmer, owned a mail order gift shop and fabric store in Vermont, and was one of the main forces in getting the Green Springs district in Louisa County on the National Registry of Historical Places. Mr. Gallagher will best be remembered for his hard work and sense of humor and dedication to the youth of the community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tim Sullivan Scholarship Fund at Godwin High School, 2101 Pump Rd., Richmond, Va. 23233. The family is being served by Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel.

GAMMON
Mary L. Gammon, 96, of Highland Springs, passed away Friday, January 18, 2002. She was the widow of Raymond Ashby Gammon and was also predeceased by her son, Earl A. Gammon. She is survived by her children, Raymond A. Gammon, Doris E. Jewett of Memphis, Tenn., Catherine G. Anderson and Gary L. Gammon; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Wesley F. Dean. Mrs. Gammon was a member of the Highland Springs United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, January 21 at Highland Springs United Methodist Church. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Springs United Methodist Church Parlor Memorial Fund, 22 North Holly St., Highland Springs, Va. 23075.

GETMAN
Robert James Getman, 74, of West Point, Va., died Saturday, January 19, 2002. A native of Ilion, New York, he graduated from Clarkson College, with a degree in Mechanical Industrial Engineering. He served two years in the U.S. Navy. Bob moved to West Point in 1959 and worked for Chesapeake Corporation until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 8116 where he served as a Past Grand Knight. He had been a member of the West Point Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Smyder Getman of 52 years; three daughters, Jane Stevens and her husband, Ronnie of Memphis, Tennessee, Liza Getman of Hanover, Mary Bishop and her husband, John of Greenville, North Carolina; two sons, Louis Getman and his wife, Kim of Orleans, Indiana and Daniel Getman of West Point; six grandchildren, Katie Stevens Hill and her husband, David, Seth Stevens, Ruth Stevens, Jimmy and Ruth Bishop and Michael Getman. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in St. Theresa Cemetery. There will be a Christian Vigil Monday, 7 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Capital Improvement Project, 207 W. Euclid Boulevard, West Point, Va. 23181.

GOODWYN
Charles Everett Goodwyn Jr., 78, of Chesapeake and formerly of Dundas, Va., died January 17, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gills Goodwyn; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. Goodwyn III and April Varney Goodwyn of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Anne Kelsey Goodwyn and Adam Turner Goodwyn. He was brother of the late Margaret G. Vinall. Charles was a retired salesman and a member of Great Bridge Methodist Church in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the family home located at 1249 Kingsway Drive, Chesapeake, Va. and also on Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, Va., where funeral service will be held Sunday, January 20, 2 p.m. Please consider memorial donations to the South Eastern Virginia Alzheimer's Association, 20 Interstate Corporate Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.

GRANT
Annie R. (Lil Annie) Grant, age 86, of Richmond, departed this life Thursday, January 17, 2002. She is survived by one son, Charles P. Bullock; two daughters, Robnette A. Bullock and Claudette M. Dabney; 14 grandchildren, among them one devoted granddaughter, Christine Bynum; 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, three cousins, two granddaughters-in-law, one grandson-in-law, other relatives and friends, among them one devoted friend, James Walker. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 5 to 6 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. Rev. Garland Jones officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

HAMBLIN
Ira Levern (Hattie) Hamblin, 64, of Farnham, died Friday, January 18, 2002. Mr. Hamblin was retired from GTE. Surviving are his wife, Lillian S. Hamblin; a son, Michael Todd Hamblin and wife, Kelli of Callao; a daughter, Gail Hamblin Dungan and husband, Johnny of Lottsburg; three grandchildren, Colin and Brianna Hamblin and Lindsey Dungan; two sisters, Doris Jean Lewis of Farnham and Betty Lee Hamblin of Roanoke; a brother, Hilton Hamblin of Callao. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie H. Webb of Lottsburg. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood. Interment Jerusalem Baptist Cemetery, Emmerton. Kelvin Shawn Hunt of Richmond departed this life January 16, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Pearl Hunt; uncle Thomas Alphonso Lewis; aunt, Evelyn Lewis; a host of cousins, among them devoted, William Lewis, LaVerne Lewis, Wesley Lewis, Wayne Lewis, and Tertia Turner; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21, 1 p.m., Tabernacle Baptist Church, 11521 Coalboro Rd., Rev. Norwood G. Carson and Rev. Anthony Rudd officiating. Interment family cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Monday, 12:30 p.m.

JEFFERSON
Mrs. Gladys B. Jefferson of Quinton, Va. died January 18, 2002. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ellen W. Anderson, Richmond, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; three brothers-in-law; and other relatives. She was a retired employee of the Bon Air Juvenile Correction Center. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 East Brookland Park Blvd. After 11 a.m. Monday, January 21, remains will rest in Second Liberty Baptist Church, Quinton, Va., where funeral services will be held at 12 noon., Rev. Milton A. Hathaway officiating. Interment church cemetery.

JOHNSON
Lawrence Porter Johnson Jr., 76, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mr. Johnson was born in Richmond, Va. on July 18, 1925, a son of the late Lawrence Porter Johnson Sr. and Virginia Hall Johnson. He grew up in Goldsboro, N.C. and Norfolk, Va. Mr. Johnson attended the University of North Carolina and the University of Oklahoma. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Johnson retired as Director of Community Services from the Virginia Department of Industrial and Economic Development. He moved to Georgetown from King William, Va. and was an Episcopalian. Surviving are his wife, Helen Lilly Johnson of Georgetown, S.C.; a son, Philips B. Johnson of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Lillian J. Garrett of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his first wife, Maude Battle Johnson; and two sons, Lawrence P. Johnson III and Hugh B. Johnson. Memorial services will be Monday evening, January 21, 2002, at 6 p.m. at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Tommy H. Tipton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the memorial service until 8 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the church or charity of ones choice.

Kenneth Lorenzo Johnson of 10701 Beaver Bridge Rd., Chesterfield, Va., departed this life Wednesday, January 16, 2002. He was born September 25, 1981. He received his education in the Chesterfield public school system. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Johnson-Harris. He leaves to cherish his memories, his parents, Thomas Douglas and Martha Johnson; two brothers, Daniel Johnson (Lisa) of Amelia, Va., Eugene Johnson (Theresa) of Orlando, Fla.; one half brother, Donald Studevant of Richmond, Va.; two half sisters, Virginia Woodley-Falck (Paul) of Portmouth, Va., Gloria Studevant-Lewis (Warren) of Richmond; one brother-in-law, Steven Harris of Chesterfield, Va.; a stepgrandfather, Kelly Harris; one great-great-aunt, Elnora Hornes; 13 aunts, 11 uncles, a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends, among them a devoted friend, Randy Pollard. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21, 1 p.m., Tabernacle Baptist Church, 11521 Coalboro Rd., Rev. Norwood G. Carson and Rev. Anthony Rudd officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Monday, 12:30 p.m.
