JOHNSON
Marion Dandridge Johnson, age 94, of Ashland, Va., departed this life Thursday, January 17, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Johnson; and ten of her brothers and sisters. Cherishing her memory are a sister, Mrs. Ida D. Bates; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives and friends. She was a 1934 graduate of Virginia Union University and taught for many years in Hanover County Schools. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. After 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 21, remains will rest at First Union Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Dr. B.S. Giles officiating. Interment at First Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

JONES
Edward M. Jones Sr., born May 1, 1920, passed away on January 18, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles S. and Ora B. Jones; and son, Richard L. Frye. He is survived by his wife, Bayrine "B" Jones; one son, Mason Jones and his wife, Sandy; three daughters, Rebecca Maiden and her husband, David, Sheila Porter and her husband, John, and Lynne Martin and her husband, Steve; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Frye; one brother, Eugene S. Jones and his wife, Ruby; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, and other relatives and friends. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Christian Children's Fund as Chief Accountant in 1982. His remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2002. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

KNIBB
Dorothy Virginia Knibb, age 95, born in Goochland County, Va. and resided in the Washington metropolitan area for nearly 60 years, on January 17, 2002 at Brighton Gardens, Arlington, Va. Survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews, and other loving relatives. Friends may call at the Norman Funeral Home, 2982 River Road West, Goochland, Va. on Monday, January 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. A procession for a graveside service will depart at 3 p.m. to the Knibb Family Cemetery. Please no flowers accepted. Arrangements by Money and King.

KUSTERER
Milton Joseph Kusterer, 58, of Richmond, died January 18, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Frances; two children, Joel and Anna; his brother, Eugene Kusterer of Charlotte; three sisters, Martha Ann Mills of Richmond, Harriet Muldowney of Hagerstown, Md., and Elizabeth Beckstoffer of St. Helena, Calif. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Christian Wake service being held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building funds of St. Gertrude High School or St. Mary's Catholic Church.

KUSTERER
William Stuart Kusterer Sr., 87, of Martinsville, Va., died January 18, 2002. He was the widower of Geraldine C. Kusterer. He is survived by two sons, William S. Kusterer Jr. of Quinton and David C. Kusterer of Richmond; two daughters, Theresa K. Ward of Martinsville and Jo Anne K. Boswell of Richmond; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Christian Wake service being held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

LANE
J. Gary Lane, 51, died at his home on January 17, 2002 after a battle with leukemia. He was born in Herrin, Ill. and graduated from Denbigh High School in Newport News. He attended the University of Virginia (B.A. and J.D.), earning his law degree in 1978. In June 1978 he began working for NW Railway and worked for Norfolk Southern Corporation and its predecessor roads for 23 years. At the time of his death, he was Chief Legal Officer of Norfolk Southern. Survivors include Nadine I. Lane, his wife of 27 years; their two children, Ethan J. Lane and Bonnie P. Lane; his sister, Karen G. Lane of Roanoke; and nephew Elijah L. Smith. Gary was the son of John S. and Bonnie M. Lane, both of whom predeceased him. A memorial service, led by Rev. Rob Stevenson of Acts 2 Church, will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Church of the Nazarene located at 4413 Wishart Road in Virginia Beach. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MCV Bone Marrow Foundation, P.O. Box 980157, MCV Hospital, Richmond, Va. 23298-0157. Arrangements are being handled by Hollomon- Brown Bayside Chapel.

Joyce T. Loving, of Mechanicsville, widow of Arrento D. "Son" Loving, died Thursday, January 17, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Julie M. Loving; and aunt, Bernice Tate; other family and friends. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, corner of Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville. MacDERMID
John Roger MacDermid, 52, of Chesterfield, died Monday, January 14, 2002. Surviving are his wife, Dana MacDermid; a stepdaughter, Christine Powers; and his mother, Margaret MacDermid of Grand Rapids, Michigan. A memorial service will be conducted at the First Congregational Church, 4310 Courthouse Rd., Richmond, Va. Sunday, January 20, 2002 at 7 p.m. Bucktrout of Williamsburg is in charge of arrangements.

MARTIN
William Lee Martin, 76, of Mechanicsville, died January 19, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris A. Martin; two sisters, Elizabeth Hogan and Myrtle M. Atkinson; his brother, Osborne P. "O.P." Martin; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, Tess and Waverly's PaPa. His remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (today), and where services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Bon Secours Hospice, 5825 Bremo Rd., Richmond, Va. 23286.

PARRISH
William Henry Parrish III of Richmond, died Friday, January 18, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Ann L. Parrish; his three sons, William Henry Parrish IV, George Ryder Parrish and Thomas McCreagh Parrish; two brothers, Jack McPherson Parrish III of Richmond and Wade Allen Parrish of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren. Mr. Parrish attended St. Christopher's School and Episcopal High School and was a graduate of the University of Virginia. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and founder and former president of Virginia Commonwealth Corp., an independent insurance agency. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's School.

PATCH
Alice Winston Patch, 94, of Glen Allen, died January 18, 2002. She was the widow of Ralph Lee (Jack) Patch. She is survived by her son and his wife, Sumner W. and Frances B. Patch of Takoma Park, Md.; two daughters, Kistie V. Patch and Ethel L. Patch, both of Glen Allen; two granddaughters, Corinne Alice Patch of Austin, Texas, and Kistie Barbara Patch of Logan, Utah; a brother, Robert Lee Winston Sr. of Richmond; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and community and church friends. Mrs. Patch was a member and a long time Sunday school teacher at Hunton Baptist Church. She was a secretary with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, a 4-H leader, a member of the Richmond Weavers Guild, and a charter member of the Hunton Civic and Recreation Association. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Hunton Baptist Church. Interment Winn's Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hunton Baptist Church Building Fund, 11660 Greenwood Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23059.

RUSSELL
Mrs. Frances E. Russell of Richmond departed this life Friday, January 18, 2002. She was secretary of Union Baptist Church and chapter president of the Richmond chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

SMITH
Alma Q. Smith passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Forest Lake Health Care, Augusta, Ga. A native of Martinsville, Va., she had resided in Augusta for the past three years. She is survived by her son, Dr. Donald L. Smith and his wife, Jo, Evans, Ga.; one grandson, Donald L. Smith II; one granddaughter, Mrs. Cynthia Moran; one great-grandson, Grayson Snyder; one great-granddaughter, Ms. Rose Hazelwood; one great-great-grandson, Kyle Lee Smith; and one great-great-granddaughter, Alexis Hazelwood. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, January 21, from Advent Lutheran Church, Martinez, Ga. with Pastor John Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 3232 Washington Road, Martinez, Ga. 30907.

SPITZER
John Samuel Spitzer, 78, departed this life January 18, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Spitzer; a son, Darryl Spitzer; four daughters, Rhonda Wilson, Julia Shelton, Janice West, and Cheryl Gardner; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Werner and Phyllis Hanks; and one brother, Charles Spitzer. He was a retiree of Richmond Metropolitan Authority and a WWII veteran. A service will be held at Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 W. Huguenot Rd., on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

STOTT
LaVerne Paul Stott, 56, beloved wife of Linwood E. Stott, died Thursday, January 17, 2002. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her stepson, Ashley L. Stott; her sister, Katheleene Paul Bishop; and her nephew, James Paul Bishop, all of Richmond. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20, by the Rev. Thomas W. Sweat of Centenary United Methodist Church. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

TONEY
After a lengthy illness, Bertha S. Toney entered eternal rest January 19, 2002, widow of Aubrey Toney, whom she worked beside for 43 years in the Toney Shoe Repair. She is survived by her three children, Ervin Toney and wife, Betty of Dillwyn, Agnes Thomas and husband, Linwood of Richmond, and Barbara Wood and husband, Earl of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her sisters, Winnie Smith of Richmond, and Anne Yarbrough of Glen Allen; and a brother, Roy Smith of Chesterfield. Services will be Monday, 2 p.m. at Buckingham Baptist Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Richard Long conducting the service. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Buckingham Baptist Church, Rt. #1, New Canton, Va. 23123 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.

TURNER
Clinton Earl Turner, 68, of Powhatan, died January 18, 2002. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Audra J. Turner, and is survived by his daughter, Lora T. Beck and her husband, Russ; sister, Marie T. Utley; brother, Rev. Donald A. Turner; half brother, Ronald L. Mason; grandchildren, Stacy M. Beck and Arby Beck. Mr. Turner was a member of the Order of the Moose, the Ruritan, J.C. Penney retiree, and former employee of C & O Railroad. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment in Maury Cemetery.

WALLER
Auguston Washington Waller, age 87, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Regional Memorial Hospital. Mr. Waller was born in Danville, Va. to William Edward and Ola Law Waller. He is survived by his wife, Mary Titus Waller; one daughter, Janet Waller Cordes of Sandston; two brothers, Harry Belt Waller of Danville, Va. and Sitges, Spain; and James Law Waller of Germantown, Tenn. He was proud grandfather to Lauren A. Cordes of New York City and Amanda Cordes Person of Norman, Okla. Mr. Waller was a long-time civil service employee, and retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 1972. He lived in Fairfax, Va. for 26 years and in Port Charlotte, Fla. for 29 years and at the time of his death, in Richmond. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 27 at 2 p.m. at Sandston Presbyterian Church.
