Heathe R. Hester of South Hill died February 4, 2001. Survived by his wife, Sarah B. Hester; his parents, Rev. Earl L. and Peggy S. Hester of Bracey; his sister, April Royal of Bracey; and his brother, Jonathan Hester of Kathmadu, Nepal. Services 11 a.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church, La Crosse. Interment 1 p.m. Saturday at the family cemetery in Bladenboro, N.C. Visitation Thursday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home.

HOLLAND
George Sterling Holland Jr., died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at the University of Virginia Hospital. He was born in Crewe, Va., September 20, 1916, the son of the late, Bessie Winfree Draucker and G. Sterling Holland Sr. He was a retired Vice President of Peoples Finance Corporation, where he was employed for 41 years, both in Charlottesville and Richmond. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Charlottesville Elks Lodge #389, Farmington Country Club, T.P.A., and Charlottesville Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Dickerson Holland; two sisters, Beverly C. Holland and Elizabeth H. Hasted. He is survived by his wife, Ivelyn Folsom McDonald Holland of Charlottesville; a son, Jeffery Sterling Holland and his wife, Sandy of Gainesville; two daughters, Anne H. Krickovic and her husband, Dr. Milan P. Krickovic of Richmond and Beverly H. Black of Yorktown; a stepdaughter, Marcia McDonald Helms of Fairfax Station; a stepson, Michael D. McDonald of Vero Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, February 7, 2001 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home, Charlottesville, Va. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2001 at Westhampton Memorial Park, Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. with the Rev. John Peters, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 101 East Jefferson St., Charlottesville, Va. 22902 or to the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 160, Charlottesville 22907 or to a charity of your choice.

JENNINGS
A memorial visitation for Lewis Edward Jennings, 72, will be conducted at Reid Funeral Home in Ashland on Wednesday, February 7, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. He died February 2, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond. He had been in failing health for the last several years. He was born June 21, 1928, in Goochland, the first son of Reid and Helen Jennings. At an early age, the family moved to Hanover County. He attended several schools around the county and he graduated from Rockville High School in 1945. In early life he displayed many talents and a wide range of interests. He was a gifted musician and played the guitar professionally as a young man. His military record includes boot camp in the United States Marine Corps, then four years in the U.S. Navy where he served on board a destroyer escort as a sonar operator. Later in life, he also served for a time in the Virginia Army National Guard. He was a life member of the Ashland chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After the military, he returned to the Ashland area where he remained the rest of his life. He worked at a number of jobs in the area to support his family. He finally settled in construction, laying brick and block, and working for a number of builders in the area. He was skilled in many different aspects of the craft, but he took the most pleasure in stonework. His work can be seen in many homes, businesses, schools and government buildings throughout the area. He loved hunting and fishing and making music. He was an avid reader, both of history and science as well as non-fiction. In his later years, he came to relish the simple things of life and, as his physical capacity became more limited, he focused more and more on the basics of life. He was preceded in death by father, Reid; mother, Helen; and brother, Wallace. He is survived by his son, Craig and his wife, Linda, their sons Clay and Cameron; Craig's mother, Mattie; and his niece and four nephews.

JOHNSON
Rufus "Eyeball" Johnson Sr. of 1814 Cleary Rd., Richmond, departed this life February 3, 2001 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. The son of the late Willie Johnson and Endie Johnson Wright. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Commonwealth Lodge #81, F&AM, PHA and the Men's League of Richmond. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Rachel Virginia Johnson; one daughter, Patricia A. Johnson of Richmond; four sons, Craig and Charles, both of Richmond, Rufus Jr. and Carlton (Phyllis), all of Charlotte, N.C.; one adopted son, Isaac Taylor; one adopted daughter, Ann Taylor; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Granderson; two brothers, Mason and James (Clarine) Johnson, all of Prince George, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Katherine Blowe; two brothers-in-law, James Blowe (Jean) and Michael Blowe, all of Prince George, Va.; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Wednesday, 12 Noon at St. Paul Baptist Church, 2600 E. Marshall St., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. Lance Watson officiating. Burial Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va.

JONES
William Powell Jones, age 61, of Montross, husband of Christine J. Jones, died on Saturday, February 3, 2001. Billy was a farmer, a member of Providence United Methodist Church, the Warsaw-Bauman Lodge No. 332 and the Betty Lewis Chapter No. 107, OES, Kinsale. Other than his wife, survivors are two sons, William C. Jones II and his wife, Kathy, and Charles C. "Chip" Jones, all of Montross; daughter, Jacqueline J. Harding and her husband, Ernie of Coles Point; two grandsons, Cory and Christian Jones; and a sister, Mary J. Keeling of Annandale. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at Providence United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Cemetery Fund or the Montross Rescue Squad.

LANE
Bernard Bell Lane, 72, of Altavista, died Monday, February 5, 2001 at his home. He was the husband of Minnie Bassett Lane. Born November 23, 1928 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Edward H. Lane Sr. and Myrtle Bell Lane. He grew up in Altavista, attending the elementary school until entering Randolph Macon Academy, Front Royal, Va. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy graduating in June, 1950 with a commission of Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Following marriage, he served in Saudi Arabia and later returned to the family business in Altavista in January, 1954. He retired as chairman of the board of The Lane Company on March 12, 1987. He was a lifelong member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church (previously Broad Street Methodist Episcopal), where he had served as a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Lane was involved in church affairs at the local and state level, most recently serving as a trustee of the United Methodist Foundation of Virginia. In 1957, he and his wife established the Minnie and Bernard Lane Foundation, which serves a wide variety of causes both local and international, emphasizing Christian relief and development, education, etc. Following his retirement from The Lane Company, Mr. Lane traveled extensively as a director and chairman of the board of several charities, the emphasis of which is meeting basic human needs and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served on the boards of the Virginia Port Authority, Food for the Hungry, Inc., Project Concern International, and the Commission of Urological Research of Duke University Medical Center. He also served as a trustee of Randolph Macon Academy, Front Royal, Va., for 17 years and on various state boards and commissions. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, William Ritter Lane and his wife, Kathleen, of Newport News, Douglas Bassett Lane and his wife, Susan, of Lynchburg, and Bernard Bell Lane Jr. and his wife, Lellen, of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Lucy Lane Corwin and her husband, Ted, of Hickory, N.C.; one brother, Edward H. Lane Jr. of Moneta; and 14 grandchildren. Mr. Lane was the guardian to his wife's cousin, Ann Matthews Lee. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Haden Lane and Landon Bell Lane. A service of celebration will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2001 in Lane Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Allen. The family will receive friends at the residence. Finch & Finch Funeral Home, Altavista, is in charge of the arrangements. PROCTOR
Elizabeth Stubbs Proctor, age 82, widow of James O. Proctor, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. She was a native of North Carolina, she retired as a school teacher from the Richmond Public Schools, she was a charter member of Reveille U.M.C. where she was a member of the Christian Fellowship Class and the Frances Carroll Circle, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and the Richmond Story League and also a member of the Provettes of the Acca Temple Shrine. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann P. Merritt. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Leisa A. Proctor; three grandsons, Matt Merritt, Ross Merritt and Fletcher Proctor. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday night at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reveille United Methodist Church, 4200 Cary St. Rd., Richmond. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reveille Church Congregational Care Ministry or to the Hermitage Methodist Home Samaritan Fund.

RAINEY
Annie Brantley Rainey, age 71, died February 5, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Rosanne R. Jasper and husband, Steve of Emporia; two sons, William F. Rainey III and wife, Alice of Sanford, N.C., and Donald Lee Rainey of Emporia; one sister, Jeanette B. Pulley and husband, Edward of Emporia; six grandchildren, Melissa R. Jarratt, William F. Rainey IV, Eric S. Jasper, Kate S. Jasper, John P. Rainey and Patrick Hattaway; one great-granddaughter, Chelsea D. Jarratt. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Skippers, Va. Echols Funeral Home, Emporia, in charge of arrangements.

Miss Ollie B. Rogers, 70, of Chesterfield, went to be with her Lord on February 4, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Eva Rogers and was preceded in death by her sister, Lena J. Watson. She is survived by her three brothers, Clarence Rogers Jr. of Camp Verde, Ariz., George R. Rogers of Concord, N.C., Robert C. Rogers of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and her sister, Evelynn R. Taylor of Chesterfield. Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, N.C. Interment Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, N.C.

Gloria Jeanne Rucker of Manakin-Sabot, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. She is survived by her husband, McDaniel Rucker III; and her son, Robin Randolph Rucker, both of Manakin-Sabot; sister, Jacqueline Wright of Englewood, Colo. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2001. Services will be private. SATTERWHITE
Mrs. Lillian Pemberton Satterwhite, 89, of Beaverdam, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Satterwhite was a member of County Line Baptist Church and the widow of Wesley Ryland Satterwhite. Survivors include four sons, Thomas Satterwhite, Robert L. Satterwhite and William R. Satterwhite, all of Beaverdam, and J. David Satterwhite of Spotsylvania; two daughters, Anna Pickett of Ashland and Linda Johnson of Glen Allen; two sisters, Elsie Farmer of Beaverdam and Evelyn Satterwhite of Ruther Glen; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and four step- great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at County Line Baptist Church, Ruther Glen with Rev. Fred Skaggs and Rev. Clyde Coleman officiating. Henry Merritt Sibley Jr., age 55, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jacki P. Sibley; two sons, Henry M. Sibley III of West Point and Joseph A. Sibley of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, H. Merritt Sibley IV and Clark Sibley. Mr. Sibley was employed with Steel Services Inc. for over 11 years and a graduate of VMI, Class of 1967. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where friends may call 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and where services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment private. STONER
Dr. Willard C. Stoner Jr., age 87, of 3711 Stratford Rd., Richmond, died February 5, 2001, in a local hospital after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Ardys Nichols of Cleveland, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Louise C. Stoner; three sons, Willard C. Stoner III of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Dr. John G. Stoner of York, Pa., Charles F. Brodersen Jr. of Richmond; two daughters, Christine B. Booth and Karen L. Hoerath, both of Richmond; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services are private.

STYWALT
Edith C. Stywalt died February 4, 2001. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet S. and Henry L. Eddleton Jr., Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, Michael, Heather and Melissa Eddleton; and a brother and sister-in-law, H.M. "Dick" and Pearl T. Counts of Solomons, Md. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 6, 7 p.m. at Cool Spring Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Va. THOMAS
Norma Taylor Thomas, 76, of Richmond, formerly of Norfolk, widow of William E. Thomas Jr., died suddenly February 2, 2001. A retired legal secretary, she is survived by her sons, Lt. Col. Warren E. Thomas and his wife, Laurie of Baltimore, Md., and Norman A. Thomas of Norfolk; brother, Kenneth Allen Taylor of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Wesley A. Thomas, K. Paige Thomas, Hannah R. Thomas and William Taylor Thomas. Also one niece, Janet Gail Taylor; and one nephew, Kenneth Allen Taylor Jr. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Stratford Hills United Methodist Church, the D.A.R., Oxford Civic Assoication and an auxiliary member of the National Association of Rainbow Division Veterans. She was also a charter member and past president of the Chesmond Women's Club and a former Docent at the Virginia Governor's Mansion. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held Wednesday, 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday, 2:45 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Stratford Hills United Methodist Church.

VALENTINE
Charles S. Valentine Jr., 71, of Richmond, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. Born in Richmond, he was the son of the late Charles S. and Ruth L. Valentine. He is survived by three sons, Charles S. Valentine III, R. Alan Butler Jr. and Forrest F. Butler; five grandchildren, Prescott, Lexi, Emily, Bess and Ned Butler; and his sister, Mary Lyle Preston. Mr. Valentine was the retired founder and headmaster of Stony Point School. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Yale University. Mr. Valentine spent his summers on Squam Lake, New Hampshire. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Valentine was a former headmaster at St. Michael's Episcopal School. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charles S. Valentine Jr. Memorial Fund at Stony Point School, 3400 Stony Point Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235. He was a lover of animals, particularly his dalmation, Major, and was a member of more than a dozen environmental and wildlife organizations.
