PATRICK
Departed this life July 16, 2001, Mrs. Lula Mae Patrick, age 79, formerly of 3506 E. Clay St. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Patrick. She is survived by one son, Gary Wilson of Raleigh, N.C., and his wife, Maurice; one daughter, Linnette P. Brooks of Richmond; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Pattie Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Friday, 9 a.m., Rev. Walter Patrick officiating. Burial Quantico National Cemetery.

PAYNE
Lewis Franklin "Easy" Payne died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Briarwood Nursing Home after a long, courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He was born July 27, 1908 in Caroline Co., Va. and was a devoted son of the late Samuel and Margaret Payne. L.F. and his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth "Dolly" Ball Payne, moved to Amherst County in 1940. He served with Virginia State Police for 31 years as a Trooper and Special Investigator. Upon retirement he was later employed by Central Fidelity Bank in the credit card division. L.F. also served as Director of Transportation for the Amherst County Public School System. As an active member of the Amherst Baptist Church, L.F. held several positions including Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Board of Trustees and a member of the property committee. He was a member of the local Masonic organization for more than 60 years and was a loyal supporter of the Virginia State Police Alumni Association. He was active in the construction of Izaac Walton Park and served as a member of the Izaac Walton League. He also served as President of the Amherst County High School Athletic Booster Club, and he was a longtime member of the Winton Country Club and Seminole Chitterling Club. Most recently he enjoyed attending and supporting the activities and events of his eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Linwood, Mason, Raymond and Conway Payne and his sister, Sadie Satterwhite. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Walsh of Ruther Glen, Va., Audrey Hart of Fredericksburg, Va.; his children and their spouses, Mary Ball Morton and John of Wilmington, Del., L.F. Payne Jr. and Susan of Wintergreen, Va., John Payne and Brenda of Amherst, Va.; his grandchildren and their spouses, Jack Morton and Cynthia of Alexandria, Va., David Morton of Wilmington, Del., Graham Payne and Jennifer of Charlottesville, Va., John Payne Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Hunter Matthews and Clay of Charlottesville, Va., Kristy Payne of Virginia Beach, Va., Sara Payne and Anna Payne of Wintergreen, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Amherst Baptist Church by the Reverends John Gordon and David Donahue. The Virginia State Police Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights. PERVIS
Robert (Bob) A. Pervis, age 75, of Henrico, passed away peacefully at his residence July 17, 2001 after a five year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Powell Pervis; one daughter, Barbara (BJ) Moore and husband, Jimmy (JJ) Moore, Jr.; one grandson, Jay Moore and wife, Michele Moore; one granddaughter, Brandi Britt and husband, Jason Britt; and one great-grandson, Tyler Moore. Mr. Pervis was a deacon of Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 10 AF & AM and Scottish Rite. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also a good friend to all who knew him and he will be missed very much. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Friday. Internment Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church, 3100 Gay Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231 or Hospice of Central Va., 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226.

RAGLAND
Marvin Ragland Sr., 82, of Spout Springs, Va. and formerly of Buckingham C.H., Va., died July 18, 2001 in Guggenheimers Nursing Home, Lynchburg. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucy Seay Ragland; three children and their spouses, Ethel Roberts (Richard) of Glen Allen, Va., Edna Tinsley (Edward) of Madison Heights, Va. and Marvin L. Ragland Jr. (Gray) of Forest, Va.; two sisters, Hazel Miles of Buckingham, Va. and Irene Greenspan of Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses, Deborah Britt (Joey) of Prince George, Va., Sandra Powell (Guy) of Glen Allen, Va., Cheryl Kasper (Scott) of Springfield, Va., Steven Ragland (Robbie) of Pennsylvania; and five great-grandchildren, Amanda Powell, Dylan Britt, Jesse Britt, Atoria Ragland and Brennan Kasper. Mr. Ragland was retired from VDOT. He was active in the Buckingham Lions Club for many years. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Buckingham Co. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, where funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

REED
Nonda Johnson Reed, 51, of Richmond, a local artist, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2001. The Reid Funeral Home, Ashland, assisting the family. Memorial service to be announced.

SEAMSTER
Julie Howard Seamster, born December 7, 1964, died July 17, 2001. Survivors include husband, Scott Seamster; children, Emily and Shannon Seamster; mother, Janie Howard; brother, Wayne Howard; sisters, Pam Marino and Gayle Wallace. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Webber Memorial Baptist Church, 7800 Salem Church Road, followed by graveside service at Riverview Cemetery.

SMITH
Mary B. Smith, 84, of Richmond, widow of James F. Smith Jr., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Jack Smith, of Sandston, and James F. Smith III, of Mechanicsville; a sister, Mildred Woodard; a granddaughter, Cathy Riggs; a stepgranddaughter, Jane McFadden; a great-granddaughter, Melissa Blunt; two great-great-grandsons, Travis and Austin; one great-great-granddaughter, Madison. Funeral services private. Funeral arrangements by Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home.

SNOOKS
Virginia Aikins Snooks, 95, of Petersburg, died Monday, July 16, 2001. The seventh child of John Aikins and Matilda Roberts Aikins, Mrs. Snooks was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and there married Rupert John Snooks, her husband of 70 years. Mrs. Snooks was active in the Petersburg Community where she founded Emergency Relief Services and ran it as a volunteer for many years. Through her generous spirit, her many good works there touched and enriched the lives of many in the Petersburg community. Following her retirement from Emergency Relief, Mrs. Snooks continued her volunteer work at Southside Regional Medical Center. Surviving are her son, Rupert J. Snooks, Jr., daughter-in-law, Nancy Brown Snooks; two grandchildren, Kimberly Snooks and Terrye Snooks Takaes; and three great-grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Dr. W. Robert Floyd, pastor at Second Presbyterian Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity, 1060 N. Deaconess Evelyn Baker Taylor, of 3011 Noble Ave., departed this life July 16, 2001. Surviving are her husband, Deacon James C. Taylor; three sons, Wayne M., Randall R. and Keith E. Taylor; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; mother, Mrs. Almeade M. Baker; two sisters, Mrs. Edith B Carter, and Ms. Ernestine B. Gilpin; six nieces, four nephews, several great-nieces and nephews; one aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Henderson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Inez Taylor; two daughters-in-law, Monica M. and Teresa Taylor; three brothers-in-law, Warwick Taylor, Thomas V. Carter, and William Harris; one sister-in-law, Darlene Davis; other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Boulevard, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. After 10 a.m. Friday, remains will rest in Westwood Baptist Church, 915 Glenburnie Rd., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Rev. TYLER
Hildred Eubank Tyler, 84, of Richmond, widow of Benjamin Maury Tyler Jr., died Tuesday, July 17, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hildred T. Watkins; a son, Ben M. Tyler III; and three grandchildren, Robert S. Watkins, Warner M. Watkins III, and Tabatha K. McDearmont. Mrs. Tyler was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20 at Hollywood Cemetery.

WALLER
Douglas Stephenson Waller, 66, of Midlothian, died Sunday, July 15, 2001 at Johnston-Willis Hospital. After graduating from Punahou Academy in Honolulu, Mr. Waller served in the Navy. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Eileen; daughter, Carolyn; son, Stephen and his wife, Pam; brother, Ed and his wife, Pat; a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Midlothian. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to CARES, c/o Chesterfield County Fire Department, P.O. Box 40, Chesterfield, Va. 23832.

WHITE
Departed this life July 16, 2001, Mrs. Gladys R. White of 1025 W. Grace St. She had a devoted caretaker, Terri Muhammad, and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Riverview Cemetery.

WRIGHT
Constance Louise Haywood Wright (Connie) went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2001 at the age of 58. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bernard; her son, David and his wife, Kristen; daughters, Lori and Donna and her husband, Jerry Natale; also seven grandchildren, J. David, Christopher and Aaron Wright, Sarah, Anna, Oliva and Jake Natale; she is also survived by her brother, David Haywood; her sister, Carol Benton; stepbrothers, Aubrey and George Mihalcoe; she is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Alice and Aubrey Mihalcoe. She was predeceased by her father, Russell Haywood. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum, where family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and where services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday. Interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park.

BAILEY
James B. "Jim" Bailey, 83, of Montpelier, formerly of Greenville, Texas, passed away April 12, 2002. He is survived by three sons, Earl Bailey and his wife, Jan, Jim Bailey and his wife, Carol, and Bobby Bailey and his wife, Pat; a sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Earl Small; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and his dear friend, Pauline Hague. Mr. Bailey was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was retired from C & O Railroad after 32 years of service. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Reid Funeral Home, Ashland. Funeral services and burial will be held in Greenville, Texas. DIGNITY MEMORIAL
