Samuel Pilson
Samuel "Tristan" Pilson, 9, of 77 Pony Ridge Road, Bassett, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital in Roanoke.
He was born in Eden, N.C., on Aug. 5, 1996, to Sam Pilson and Shawn Prillaman Pilson, both of the home.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn Julian Pilson and Mary G. Pilson.
Tristan was a fourth-grade student at Sanville Elementary School. He attended Orchard Drive Baptist Church and was an honorary member of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department. When he was healthy, he played soccer and football, and participated in karate and skateboarding. He also played the guitar.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his grandparents, Alton Wythe Prillaman and Ruth Howell Prillaman, both of Wirtz.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Orchard Drive Baptist Church, Bassett, with the Revs. Michael Harrison, Lew Bennett and Dr. Joan Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Bassett.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Drive Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Pediatric Oncology Program at Carilion, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, 101 Elm Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24013 or to curesearch.org.
Collins Funeral Services in Bassett is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur W. Byrd
The funeral for Arthur Wilkes Byrd, 53, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 6, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 8 p.m. today at Community Funeral Services chapel with Charles R. Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. before the service.
Memorials may be made to: Alcoholics Anonymous, 23 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112.
He was born Oct. 16, 1952, in Henry County, to Bennie L. Byrd and Edith Wilkes Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, O.B. Byrd.
He was a cabinet builder for Nester's Cabinet Shop for 15 years.
Surviving are a son, Ryan Lee Byrd Pinnix of Martinsville; four sisters, Aleane Anderson of Wirtz, and Naydean Matherly, Erma Adkins and Kay Gillispie, all of Martinsville; six brothers, Larry "Pete" Byrd, Sayford Byrd, Clayton Byrd, Johnny Byrd and Jimmy Byrd, all of Martinsville and Junny Byrd of Carlsbad, Calif.; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Woodrow Childress
Woodrow Childress, 73, of 300 Blue Ridge St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Community Funeral Services, Ridgeway, is in charge of arrangements.

Everette T. Compton
Everette Thomas Compton, 61, formerly of Ridgeway, and more recently of 4338 McCorsley Ave., Little River, S.C., died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Edmonds
Charles Howard Edmonds, 68, of Bassett, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born June 24, 1937, to Howard Lemuel Edmonds and Ila Beatrice Fulk Edmonds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard L. Edmonds.
He had served in the Army and had worked for the J.D. Bassett Manufacturing Co.
Surviving are three sisters, Lucy E. Stone of Bassett, Frances E. Pilson of Ridgeway and Betty E. Leonard of Blue Ridge; two brothers, Ray A. Edmonds of Bassett and Roy E. Edmonds of Ridgeway; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating.
Memorials may be made to Christmas Cheer, P.O. Box 540, Martinsville, Va. 24114.

Nora G. Haskins
The funeral for Nora Elsie Grubbs Haskins, 91, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 5, 2005, was held Thursday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Bobby Rakes and Minister Tim Wood officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Keith Haskins, Jamie Hodges, Scott Hutcherson, Brett Haskins, Richard Haskins, Sayford Byrd Jr. and her sons-in-law.

Lafayette C. Jones
Lafayette C. Jones, 59, of 501 Second St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Salem.
Hairston Funeral Home will announce arrangements on Sunday.

Dottie H. Liston
The funeral for Dottie Lou Hager Liston, 59, of Collinsville, who died Dec. 5, 2005, was held Thursday at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Bud Sedwick officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Mike Wood, Ernest Carter, Arthur J. Gibbons, Pierre Dionne, Randy Liston, Hank Daniels, Mat Lester and Jody Compton.

Mary F. Morris
The funeral for Mary Frances Morris, 89, of Stanleytown, who died Dec. 6, 2005, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Thomasson Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Joseph "Doby" Salmons will officiate. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
She was born in North Carolina on May 9, 1916, to Walter Scott Boyles and Daisy Casedy Boyles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Morris; and a sister, Grace Sutphin.
Surviving are three sons, William H. Morris, Luther Morris and Gilmer Morris, all of Stanleytown.
Bassett Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Roy C. O'Leary Sr.
Roy Clayton O'Leary Sr., 63, of Trinity Mission, Rocky Mount, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Collins Funeral Services in Bassett is in charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department and students and faculty of Sanville Elementary School.
