BEECH
Caroline Margaret Beech, 87, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., died August 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Louis E. Beech. Survivors include her daughter, Darlene C. Parrish; and her granddaughter, Amanda M. Parrish, both of Richmond. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Road, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (today). Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dale Memorial Park.

BERRIER
Joyce H. Berrier, 71, of Rockville, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, August 24, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harry Berrier; four children, Georgia Burton and her husband, Charles, Steve Berrier and his wife, Diana, Debra Norman and Pam Weidner and her husband, Joe; grandchildren, Kim and Tammy, Shannon and Christopher, Shelbi and Jared; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Christopher; a sister, Lorraine Groome; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral service 12 Noon Monday at Dover Baptist Church, Manakin-Sabot, Va., with interment in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

BOOKER
Mrs. Anna F. Booker, age 74, died Friday, August 24, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. Booker. Mrs. Booker was a 1944 graduate of John Marshall High School in Richmond, and a 1948 graduate of Madison College, now James Madison University. She was a crafter of childrens smocked clothing and a longtime exhibitor at the Ashland Strawberry Faire. Survived by one son, Robert C. Booker, Minneapolis, Minn.; and one daughter, Susan L. Booker of Richmond. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235. The Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Corine B. Booker of Richmond, departed this life Sunday, August 26, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later. The family may be contacted at 271-9209.

Departed this life August 23, 2001, Mr. Fatress Earl Britt, of Richmond. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Ann Britt; three sons, Fatress and Keith Britt and Floyd Robinson; three daughters, Melody Welch, Felicia Britt and Barbara Brooks; his mother, Dorothy P. Myrick; seven grandchildren, Lena McMahand, Corey and Derek Britt, Delando, Shawn, Demont and Christopher Robinson; one sister, Ruby Pitchford; a host of nieces and nephews; one loving and devoted daughter-in-law, Dorcas Britt; two sons-in-law, James Welch and Robert Brooks; two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th Street, where the family will receive friends Monday 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. Elder James Williams officiating. Burial Roselawn Memory Gardens.

CREWS
Mrs. Florence Crews, who for the past two years made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Sadie and Bill Tuck in Caroline County, entered into God's Kingdom August 26, 2001. She was the widow of the late Deputy Sheriff L.A. Crews of Keysville. She is survived by two other daughters, Mary Flynn, her husband, Edward Flynn of Keysville, and Linda Martin of Saxe. She had six grandchildren, Danny Flynn of Keysville, Shane Flynn of New York, Jeannie Ball of Caroline County, Tracey Newcomb of Saxe, Shanlee Ayers of Chase City and Chris Ayers of Appomattox. She had ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Perkins, Betty Oakly, Emily Gentry and friend/caregiver, Beatrice Frank. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at Browning Funeral Home in Keysville with burial at Ashcamp Memorial Cemetery in Keysville. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frog Level Volunteer Rescue Squad, 29415 Richmond Turnpike, Ruther Glen, Va. 22546.

DAVOUD
John Gordon Davoud, a long time resident of Richmond, died August 26, 2001 after a short illness. Dr. Davoud was born on February 1, 1916 in Provo, Utah. Dr. Davoud was the son of Vahram Yetvart Davoud of Istanbul, Turkey and Constance Tandy Davoud of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He received a B.A. from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1937, was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in 1937, and received a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Brasenose College, Oxford in 1941. During World War II, he worked for the British Government doing explosives and other chemical research for the SOE. After the war, he worked in the Chemical Fibers Industry at Courtaulds Ltd. in England and Canada, and subsequently with The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Pottstown, Pa. and Hopewell, Va. After his career with Firestone, he worked as a legal consultant and inventor in the ethanol and alternative power fields. His inventions include the "D Cycle" steam engine. He was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Church in Richmond and sang in the choir. He is survived by five children; daughters, Alison Davoud Wiltbank and husband, John of Norfolk, Va., Jennifer Davoud Whitman and husband, H. Morton of St. Louis, Mo., Gillian Davoud Williams and husband, Stephen of Sydney, Australia, Margaret Davoud Goolsby and husband, Gregory of Ocala, Fla.; son, Roderick Vahram Davoud and wife, Cynthia of Richmond; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at Grace and Holy Trinity Church, 8 North Laurel Street, Richmond. The visitation will be followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Make-A-Wish Foundation or to The Children's Hospital.

DOBSON
Orin Nigel Dobson departed this life August 24, 2001, He was born on March 22, 1977 in Richmond. Peanut as he was affectionately called was a kind and loving person. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Iona A. Dobson; his father, Leon B. Hunter, both of Richmond; two brothers, Marcus Dobson and Deckion Callis; three sisters, Kim Robertson, Jill and Portia Hunter; maternal grandparents, Lucy and Johnnie Williams of Charles City County; seven aunts, four uncles, a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th Street, where a homegoing service will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. Rev. Louis Blakey Jr. officiating. Burial Maury Cemetery.

EDWARDS
Laura Lee Edwards, 69, of Charles City, departed this life August 25, 2001. She was a member of Parrish Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Norman H. Edwards; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria B. and Howard W. Johnson Sr.; granddaughter, Anita Johnson; grandson, Howard W. Johnson Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Kiara and Kevonte; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mamie Edwards; sister, Beatrice Williams; two sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 12 Noon Wednesday, Mrs. Edwards will rest at Parrish Hill Baptist Church, where services will be held 2 p.m. Eulogy, Rev. Sheila Crump. Interment church cemetery.

ELLIS
Martha Annie Ellis died August 25, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Meeks; and son-in-law, Mike; her grandsons, Marvin Bogar Jr. and wife, Lisa and Ronnie Bogar; her great-grandchildren, Wanda, Crystal, Brandi and Mycla. Remains rest, after 11 a.m. Monday, at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

FEMIANI
Nila E. Femiani of Richmond departed this life to be with her sweet Jesus August 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Femiani and her sons, Henry and Bob Femiani. She is survived by her children, Carol Hansen, Paul and John Femiani, Marty Gordon, Pat Femiani, Rose Riley and Clara Wendorf; her sister, Clara Grazer; her brother, Louis Suffredini; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Femiani was a lay member of the Order of Carmelites and the Giuseppe Verdi Lodge. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

FORTNER
Benny George Fortner, 69, of Roanoke, and formerly of Richmond, died Sunday, August 26, 2001. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Additional arrangements are pending at Oakey's South Chapel and Woody Parham Chapel, Richmond.

HICKS
Claude Hamilton Hicks, son of Cynthia Elvin Stywalt Hicks and Corridell Branch Hicks, died Saturday, August 25, 2001. Aged 83 years. Mr. Hicks was trained in the art of slipcover making in Philadelphia, Pa. and managed the Mill End Shop in Carytown for many years. After his retirement, Mr. Hicks continued his work with personal customers. He was the founder of the Chapter of the Order of St. Vincent at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and was currently a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He was an avid student and collector of books pertaining to the Civil War. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Mae Shultz Hicks; daughter, Cynthia Ruth Hicks Williams Blanks; son-in-law, Edwin Everett Blanks; grandsons, Jason Hamilton Williams and fiancee, Sharon Lynn Elliott, and Andrew Wallace Williams and wife, Drenda Michelle Jenkins Williams. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, the Rectors Discretionary Fund.

HYMAN
Hyman H. Hyman, 78, of Richmond, died Friday, August 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ruth C. Hyman; three children, Robert G. Hyman, Mark L. Hyman, and Sandy Rae Hyman; three grandchildren, Shaina, Rebecca, and Will Hyman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Hyman. Mr. Hyman was a Richmond area businessman for 50 years. Funeral services will be held at 1:15 p.m. Monday at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. Interment Richmond Beth El Cemetery at Forest Lawn.

JOHNSON
George William Johnson, 83, of Richmond, passed away at his daughter's home on Saturday, August 25, 2001. He was the widower of Janie Louise Johnson, and is survived by his three children, George Linwood Johnson, Jane Lloyd, and Rosa Lee Gephart; devoted son-in-law, Roger Lloyd; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

Ruth E. Johnson of Midlothian passed away on August 25, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William C. Johnson; one son and daughter-in-law, William B. and Connie M. Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Margaret R. Johnson of The Colony, Texas and Elizabeth T. Johnson of Cockeysville, Md.; one granddaughter, Kelley A. Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Pearl I. Benoit of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, George S. Patterson of Scottsdale, Arizona. Arrangements are being handled by the Bliley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sutton, Mass. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Brandermill Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Brandermill Church Building Fund, Growing To Serve, 4500 Millridge Parkway, Midlothian, Va. 23112.

Rena P. Kern, 81, of Chesterfield, died August 25, 2001. She was the widow of Harry R. Kern. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia K. Lane; granddaughter, Sue L. Royster and her husband, Robert; great-grandchildren, Amy Steven and Patricia McKinney. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park. LaFEVER
Michael "Mick" LaFever, 35, of Richmond, passed away at home on August 25, 2001 after a courageous battle with HIV. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth LaFever. He is survived by his dear companion, John Jacobson of Richmond; his loyal friend, Sarah; his father, Sam LaFever Sr.; sister, Lori; and brother, Sam LaFever Jr., all of Bloomington, Ill. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Burial will take place at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to Commonwealth Catholic Charities, Meals on Wheels, your local animal shelter or Hospice of Central Virginia. Bliley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mary Catherine "Kitty" Laird, 79, of Richmond, widow of Paul M. Laird Jr., died August 25, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Libby Laird Cundiff; six devoted grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Cundiff, Trina Cundiff Beasley, Mario Brett Cundiff, Donna Cundiff Mauldin, Deana Cundiff Matthews and Gina Cundiff Stoltzfus; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Leroy W. Vest. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lexington, Va.
