SCHMIDT
Donald Warner Schmidt, 61, of Richmond, died Saturday, September 14, 2002. He was the owner of the Antique Corner antique shop. He is survived by his wife, Pat L. Schmidt; a daughter, Sandy S. Scialdone and husband, Greg; a son, Donald W. Schmidt Jr. and wife, Caroline; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Fred I. Goff. The family will receive friends at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd., Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m., where funeral arrangements are pending.

SIZER
Houston B. Sizer, 82, of Roanoke (formerly of Richmond), died Saturday, September 14, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis W. and Carrie Strickler Sizer; and his sisters, Nellie Katherine Sizer, and Ellen Geneva Pillow. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and retired from the Henrico County School System. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen "Kitty" Kelly Sizer; brothers, William Alton Sizer of Yorktown, Va., Calvin W. Sizer and wife, Charlotte of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews including, Ann Lewis Moir of Newport News, Patti Love of Roanoke, and William A. Sizer Jr. of Ypsllanti, Mich. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Christian Youth Program, c/o St. John's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 257, Roanoke, Va. 24002. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Robert L. Beasley. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Arrangements by Siimpson-Tharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center. 540-366-0707

SMITH
Douglas Myers Smith, 74, of Louisa, died Sunday, September 15, 2002. Mr. Smith was the owner of Smith Orchard for over 25 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a son of the late Lupton Anderson Smith and Sarah Waller Smith. Survivors include his honorable son and daughter-in-law, Donald P. and Meredith Smith of Louisa; honorable grandchildren, Mary Elise and Mikala Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Linwood Slayton of Glen Allen. The family will receive friends Monday, September 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. Memorial donations may be made to the Mineral and Louisa Rescue Squads.

SMITH
Katherine Kennon Smith of Chesterfield died Sunday, September 15, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Parke Smith; and is survived by her sister, Ollie Kennon Cole; niece, Faye Beauchamp; nephew, Warren M. Griffin; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Laurie Ursiny, Katherine Eike, Susan Barlow, Christina, Joseph and Philip Griffin. Mrs. Smith was the former owner of Kitty Smith Personnel. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Manchester Rescue Squad.

SOBRITO
Ruth Nolte Sobrito left this life for a much better place on September 14, 2002. She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 64 years, Charles J. Sobrito Sr.; two sisters, Lucille Scott and Mary Swann; one brother, Frank Nolte Jr. Mrs. Sobrito had four loving sons, Charles Jr., Thomas Wayne, Steven Paul and Michael Frank Sobrito, and their wives. She was also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Augustine's Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.

BRANCH
Departed this life January 5, 2001, Mrs. Sarah Anderson Branch, age 89, formerly of 3400 Block Rosewood Ave. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. (Dick) Branch Sr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, among them devoted, Eliza Anderson, Delores Charles and Dorothy Jones; three stepchildren, Mrs. Wilnette A. Brown, James A. and Richard A. Branch Jr.; sisters-in-law and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, corner of 29th and Marshall Sts., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Preston Jordan, Pastor, officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

CECIL
Jannie Southworth Cecil of King William, died January 7, 2001. She is survived by two sisters, Cordelia Trice and Doris Bernardini; two nieces, Janiece Bernardini and Frances Griffin and husband, Roy; a nephew, Eugrette J. Edwards Jr. and wife, Frances; several great-nieces and nephews. Remains rest at B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, Va., where services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday. Interment at Sharon Baptist Church, King William. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to King William Volunteer Rescue Squad, Aylett, Va.

CHRISP
Departed this life on January 4, 2001, John H. Chrisp. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Chrisp; four children, John Lewis, S. Jean Blackwell (James), Elton Chrisp (Suk) and Elnora Chrisp; one stepdaughter, Annette Reynolds; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ida Mae Morgan, Myrtle Perry (James) and Elizabeth Jones; three brothers, Ervin, Walter (Peggy) and Frank Chrisp; three aunts, Lucille Richardson, Josephine Hines and Savannah Chrisp; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. from Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 812 N. 25th St. Elder A. Chrisp, Eulogist. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Remains will rest at the church one hour prior to service.

CLEMENTS
Anna Lou Clements of Richmond, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Lois B. Day; four grandchildren, Beverly D. Binns, Charlotte D. Hager, Bryce Day and Neil W. Day; three great-grandchildren, Brian, Holly and Sarah. Mrs. Clements was retired from FFV-Interbake Foods with 30 years of service. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

COLES
Mr. Edward A. Coles of Richmond, departed this life January 6, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving his family.

COWAN
Dollie (Dorothy) Ferguson Cowan, long time resident of Tidewater, Va., died Sunday, January 7, 2001. Born December 23, 1909 in Southampton County, Va., she was the widow of C. Vernon Cowan and is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Carle Johnson of Mechanicsville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Carle S. Johnson Jr. and Marilyn of Annapolis, Md., Douglas C. Johnson and Cathy, Patricia Johnson, Dennis Johnson and Meredith Holden, all of Mechanicsville; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Aubrey T. Ferguson of Newport News, Va. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held at Westhampton Memorial Park at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 9. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Baptist Children Home, Salem, Virginia 24153-0270.

CREWS
James Spencer Crews, born November 17, 1917, passed away January 7, 2001 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Epps Crews in 1988. He is survived by his son, James "Jimmy" R. Crews; his stepmother, Isabelle Crews of Madison Heights; one sister, Louise C. Daubert of White Plains, New York; and six halfsisters, Betty Carwile, Edith Duffield, Phyllis Evers, Dorothy Freeman, Jean Thorp and Joann Woody, all of Madison Heights. Afer 35 years as a machinist, Mr. Crews retired from Dupont Corporation in 1975. He was a member of Crystal Hill Baptist Church in Crystal Hill, Va. He was an avid hunter as a member of Knockdown Hunt Club and was formerly a member and on the Board of Directors of York Hunt Club in New Kent County, Va. Funeral services will be held at Crystal Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Browning Funeral Home on Tuesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad.

DeJONG
Alayne G. DeJong, age 68, of Richmond, died Sunday, January 7, 2001. She was the widow of John J. DeJong. She is survived by two sons, J. Robert and L. Michael DeJong; a daughter-in-law, Brenda DeJong; two sisters; three grandsons, Jonathan M., Darren and Mark Hawker; and two great-granddaughters. Mrs. DeJong was retired from the J.C. Penney Co. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

GIBSON
Entered into eternal rest Friday, January 5, 2001, Mrs. Mary Alice Gibson, age 91, of Amelia. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Barbara Jones; one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, two sisters, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at 1 p.m. from Little Union Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery. Arrangements by Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Rt. 360, Amelia.

GILMAN
Mary Ann Novak Gilman, 84, a lifelong resident of Hanover County, the widow of Ernest F. Gilman, passed away, Saturday, January 6, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred G. and her husband, Billy J. Gilmore; and a granddaughter, Heather Lynn Gilmore; one sister, Marjorie Campbell; two nieces, Catherine Kroger of Georgia and Dr. B.J. Campbell; one nephew, Frank Bartik of New Jersey. Mrs. Gilman was a member of Independence Christian Church. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland on Monday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, with burial in Woodland Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Ashland Vol. Rescue Squad.

GLENN
Shirley Ann Glenn, 54, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Andrew J. Glenn; sons, Allan David Glenn and his wife, Rebecca K., Kenneth Wayne Glenn and his wife, Julie-Anne, and Jeffery Michael Glenn and his wife, Jacquelyn Arlene; parents, Francis and Sidney Council; a brother, Billy Crowder; sisters, Dorothy Allen and Phyllis Grizzard; grandchildren, Christopher, Tabitha and Brittany Glenn, Tiffany and Tara Brown, and Garrick Harding. Mrs. Glenn was a member of Harrowgate Worship Center. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Cemetery in Alberta, Va.

HALL
James C. (Jim) Hall, 87, of Richmond, passed away Friday, January 5, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beulah T. (Blondie) Hall; two daughters, Judy Elizabeth and husband Robert E. Collins of Sumner, Washington; Glinda J. and husband, Stan E. Hunter, of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, John A. Hall and fiancee, Carolyn Albert of Goldsboro, N.C.; three grandsons, and numerous great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hall was a retired employee of Philip Morris and a member of American Legion Post #125 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His remains rest at the Parham Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 7 and where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, January 8. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

HARRIS
Amanda (Tincy) Walton Harris, 87, of Glen Allen, died Sunday, January 7, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton Harris; and son, Wayne S. Harris. She is survived by two sons, Paul N. and Marvin E. Harris; one brother, Irvin Walton; two sisters, Eleanor Crostic and Margaret Barr; nine grandchildren. Mrs. Harris was a lifelong devoted member of Winns Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Winns Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va. Interment church cemetery.

HOLDER
Rowland William Holder, 92, of Richmond, died January 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Baber Holder; son, Cary Dennison Holder; and daughter-in-law, Nancy D. Holder of Midlothian, Va.; granddaughter, Lynne Shumaker of Colonial Heights, Va.; and niece, Sandra H. Derby of Goochland. A lifelong resident of Richmond, Mr. Holder was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and retired plant supervisor with the Standard Paper Manufacturing Co. His remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2001. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at Westhampton Memorial Park.

JACKSON
Mr. Johnny Green Jackson departed this life at McGuire VA Hospital, January 3, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving his family.
