Beverly Elaine Painter, 30, beloved daughter of W. Ellis and Lynda M. Painter, went to be with our Lord on September 18, 2001. Besides her parents she is survived by her brother, Christian D. Painter; her sister, Kathy P. Thompson; and nephew, James A. Painter. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 22, at 2 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Massey Cancer Center or your favorite charity.

STONE
Janie "Pernell" Stone, 61, left us to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 19, 2001. She is survived by a wonderful loving companion, Roger "R.D." Rook; four children, Terri, Tammie, Joe, and Jim; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Dot Eatmon and her husband, Al, and Burmie Bass; and two wonderful and dear friends, Richard and Debbie Beauliu. She will be greatly missed. She touched the lives of all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son, with Reverend Maurice Synand officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Departed this life September 19, 2001, John Jack Talley Jr., of 806 South Meadow St. He is survived by three daughters, Edmonia Freeman, Patricia Lyons, and devoted Betsy R. Talley; one son, William E. Booth; five grandchildren; mother, Hattie M. Talley; two aunts, one uncle, several cousins, among them, a devoted Mary Hackett-Taylor; son-in-law, James Freeman; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday. Rev. James Ryan officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Michelle L. Tiller of 5608 Canasta Dr. departed this life September 19, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Darryl Tiller; a daughter, Rajon Randall; a son, John Randall; mother, Geneva Olds; three sisters, Cecelia Patterson, Ann and Queenie Olds; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Richmond, 2200 Pickens Rd. Joe Forbush officiating. Interment, Maury Cemetery. Family and friends attending services assemble at the church Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

WALLACE
John Gallaudette Wallace IV, 51, of Chesapeake, died September 19, 2001 in Arlington, Va. following a car accident. A lifelong resident of Chesapeake, he was the son of the late John G. Wallace III and Louisa Sargeant Wallace. He had attended both Virginia Polytechnical Institute and TCC before completing his carpenters apprenticeship. He was a certified welder and piledriver and journeyman carpenter. Professionally he enjoyed a challenge and prided himself on doing things the right way the first time. He was a member and business agent for the Local 303 Union in Portsmouth until its merger in 1984 with Norfolk and Newport News. He later became president of Local 613 and at the time of his death was serving as their vice-president. He initiated the Organizing Program for Local 613 and had served as a union member for 30 years. His love of the union and service to its members took him to the Washington area to find union work. He traveled for years back and forth every weekend between his family and his work. All the members of Local 613 will greatly miss his devoted service and his sense of humor. He also was a member and past vestry associate with St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and a member of the Tidewater Black Smith Guild. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty Gayle" Johnson Wallace of Chesapeake; their two sons, John G. Wallace V and Robert J. Wallace; his daughter, Elizabeth A. Wallace; his daughter-in-law, Sophie E. Wallace; and his grandson, Theodore G. Wallace. He is also survived by his brothers, Ben J. Wallace and George T. Wallace IV; a sister, Louisa W. Hammond; and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2001, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth by the Reverend Jane F. Flaherty. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, or the Oasis Program of Tidewater, 1020 High Street, Portsmouth, Va. 23704.

WEBB
T. Carlton "Tex" Webb, 82, of Orange, died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Orange Couty Nursing Home. Born June 23, 1919 in Orange, Va., he was the son of the late John Thomas Webb and the late Mattie Stevie Collins Webb. He was a retired businessman and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a merchant in the town of Orange for over 50 years. Member of Orange Baptist Church, charter member of Orange County jaycees, life and charter member of Orange County Rescue Squad with 42 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Pugh Webb of Orange; two daughters, Carolyn W. Rogers and husband, Wilmer of Orange, Jean T. Britt and husband, Bob of Littleton, N.C.; one son, John N. Webb and wife, Evelyn of Culpeper; grandchildren, Gina R. Hutchison and husband, Mark, Paige L. Rogers, Jeff S. Rogers and wife, Sarah, J. Neal Webb and wife, Beth, Robyn W. Hillard and husband, Erik, Bill Rippe and wife, Tonya, Lisa Rippe; great-grandchildren, Chase Hutchison, Ryan Hutchison, Andrew Webb and Samuel Webb. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2001, at the Preddy Funeral Home, 250 West Main St., Orange, Va. 22960. ZIMMERMANN
David E. Zimmermann, 82, of Richmond, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Zimmermann, two daughters, Katherine Gerritz and her husband, Daniel, Marcia Strange and her husband, James; six grandchildren, David, Scott and Graham Gerritz, Leslie, Katherine and Spencer Strange. Mr. Zimmermann was a veteran of World War II, an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a retired insurance agent, and an active member of his community through service in the Sertoma and Lions Clubs. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Clifford Luther Adams, age 79, of Drakes Branch died Monday, December 25, 2000. Surviving are his wife, Florence A. Adams; four daughters, Angela Esatto of Herndon, Deborah Morris of Rustburg, Kathryn Adkins and Patricia Britt, both of Keysville; four sons, Eric Adams of Newport News, James Adams of Deltona, Fla., Thomas Adams of Collinsville, Wayne Adams of Bel Air, Md.; one brother, Letcher Adams of Chase City. Departed this life December 21, 2000, Mrs. Jeanette D. Bailey, age 93, of 3407 Maplewood Ave. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell I. Bailey. She is survived by two daughters, Mary B. BALLARD
Madeline C. Ballard of 1900 Lauderdale Dr., widow of Davis F. Ballard, died December 24, 2000. She is survived by three nieces and five nephews. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 9808 and a membr of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also retired from DuPont in 1963. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesda. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

BENNETT
Doris Johnson Bennett of 1013 Derrymore Rd. entered eternal rest December 19, 2000. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mrs. Eva Bracey, Mr. James Durant and Mr. James Cox. Cherishing her memories are her mother, Mrs. Betsy Johnson; one devoted sister, Mrs. Shirley M. Owens; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mabel Cox; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, two devoted friends, Deacon Richard Thorne and Jean Peele. BERRYMAN
Ernest Mooring Berryman, 81, died Sunday, December 24, 2000. He was born on November 26, 1919 at Beechland Cross Roads in Elberon, Va. He lived at Beechland all of his life and after high school joined his father in thier family farm operation. Ernest and his son later formed Beechland Farms, Inc., which now has been joined by two of Ernest's gransons. During his farming career, Mr. Berryman was honored twice with an outstanding farmer award and also received honors for conservation work on his farm. He was a member of the County Committee of the Surry ASCS for 12 years. Mr. Berryman worked with the 4-H and FFA organizations, as well as the Surry County Extension Office in developing programs to help youths in furthering their goal to have a career in production agriculture. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as superintendent for 40 years. Mr. Berryman was preceded in death by his parents William Thomas and Lucy Mooring Berryman; and three brothers, Perry L., Jack C., and Ollie T. Berryman. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Jones Berryman; a daughter, Darlene B. Richards of Surry; a son, E. Mac Berryman and his wife, Joanie of Elberon; one sister, Lilly B. Thomas of Ivor; six grandchildren, Bobby Richards and his wife, Stacey of Elberon, Sherri R. Brittle and her husband, Smokey of Wakefield, Don Richards of Surry, Melissa Berryman of Atlantic Beach, N.C., Steve Berryman of Elberon, and Lisa Berryman of Elberon; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Surry, on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Raymond Rowland. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 2200 Golden Hill Rd., Elberon, Va.
