Evelyn M. Allison
Evelyn Mickens Allison, 89, of Ferrum (Patrick County), died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
She was born on March 1, 1916, to Elmer Mickens and Florence
Smith Mickens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd F. Allison.
Surviving are a daughter, Wilma Allison of Ferrum (Patrick County); three sisters, Annabell Miller, Harriete Boyer and Dorothy Christi, all of New Jersey.; a brother, Gilbert Mickens of New Jersey; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fairystone Baptist Church in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Dunn officiating.

Bettie H. Barrow
Bettie Handy Barrow, 87, of Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
She was born in Patrick County on March 14, 1918, to Fernell H. Handy and Arta Overby Handy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W. Barrow; a sister, Evelyn H. Compton; and four brothers, Ben Handy, Clyde Handy, Herbert Handy and Harry Handy.
She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and a former member of the SPCA, the Home Demonstration Club and the Garden Club. She was a graduate of Allen's Beauty School.
Surviving are two sons, Carl W. Barrow and Wayne D. Barrow, both of Martinsville; a sister, Janie H. Pauley of Donaldsonville, Ga.; a brother, Bernard Handy of Stuart; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Tracy Freeman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home.

Daniel L. Childers
OCALA, FLA. -- Daniel Lee "Danny" Childers, 48, of Ocala, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Legacy House Hospice.
He was born in Abingdon, Va., and moved to Ocala in 1975 from Martinsville, Va.
He was a musician with three recorded blues albums to his credit. He was also a charter boat captain.
Surviving are his mother, Lena Ruth Martin of Axton, Va.; two sisters, Deborah C. Roberts of Ridgeway, Va. and Lennis C.
Wells of Axton, Va.; a brother, James E. "Jim" Childers of Ocala; and several nieces and nephews.

Lee E. Cobbs
DANVILLE -- Lee Edward Cobbs, 47, of Danville, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Wake Forest Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was born in Henry County on May 9, 1958, to Rufus Cobbs and Rosa Grant Cobbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra D. Cobbs.
He was self-employed as a handyman.
Surviving are two daughters, LaKesha C. Cobbs and Latoya Thomas, both of Danville; a son, Darel Thomas of Danville; five sisters, Sadie Cobbs of Washington, D.C., Shirley Martin of Martinsville, Elizabeth Hairston, Yolanda Reynolds and Minnie Reynolds, all of Axton; and four brothers, Lewis Cobbs of Reidsville, N.C., James Cobbs of Axton, Rufus Cobbs of Eden, N.C. and Sammy Cobbs of Baskerville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Holiness Church in Martinsville with Dr. Ross Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the Cobbs family cemetery in Axton.
The family will receive friends for one half hour before the service and at other times at 3367 Hobson Road in Axton.

The funeral for Estelle Jennings Doyle Cox, 96, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 13, 2005, was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Minister George Harris officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doug Sharpe, Richard Cox, Billy Shelton, W.D. Whitlow, Frankie Whitlow, Billy Purdy, Joe Frazier, Kermit Whitlow, Posey Whitlow and Jamie Padgett.

The funeral for Beckel Ford, 86, of Martinsville, who died Dec. 14, 2005, was held Saturday at the Church at Mercy Crossing with Pastor Jackie Poe and the Revs. Jimmy Wood and Harold
Brown officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park with military rites given by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard and the Army Reserve Unit from Roanoke.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Maj. Todd Dewayne Ford, USMC, Chad Everett Ford, Paul Ford, Jeffrey Alan Ford, Michael Wayne Ford and Mitchell Andrew Ford.

Sylvia H. Owens, 88, of Fieldale, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
She was born in West Virginia on July 26, 1917, to Columbus Reed Hubbard and Melia Jane McAlexander Hubbard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Owens.
She was a member of Clearview Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Billie Jean Clark of Fieldale and Judith Hite of Bassett; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Clearview Wesleyan Church with the Rev. James Long officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Abbey.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service and other times at the home in Fieldale.
