Maude W. Clary of Brodnax, died July 13, 2002. Survived by two sisters, Blanche Kirkland and Alma Turner, both of South Hill; three brothers, Wilson, Maxie and Earl Wright, all of Brodnax. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. Interment Canaan Cemetery. Visitation Monday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. COFFIN
Dorothy C. Coffin, 78, of Richmond, passed away Friday, July 12, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Coffin Jr. She is survived by three sons, Bruce, Nathanial, and David Coffin; sister, Edna Taylor; grandchild, three nieces, and a nephew. Mrs. Coffin worked for C&P Telephone and retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. A graveside service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association. Bliley Funeral Homes is serving the family.

DAVIS
Harry Thomas Davis, 71, of Richmond, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Camper Davis; a daughter, Mary Lynn and her husband, C. Timothy Parker of Burke; and a son, Glenn Thomas Davis of Richmond. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Parker, Hannah Davis, Emily Davis, Meredith Parker and Joshua Davis; a sister, Virginia Davis Brigham of Nashville, Tenn.; and mother-in-law, Irma Camper of Fincastle, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosa Lee and Webbie Williamson, and Billy Marshall of Buchanan, Va., and Lynn and Marie Camper of Fincastle, Va. He was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Jackie Marshall and Larry Camper. Harry was a former Richmond City firefighter and retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance. He enjoyed a lifetime of music with various groups. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association.

FARMER
Welford Stuart Farmer Sr., 76, of Richmond, died suddenly on July 12, 2002. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen H. Farmer, who was the mother of his four children. Survivors include his wife and four children, and their spouses, Bonnie H. Farmer and W. Stuart Farmer Jr. and his wife, Leigh, Joseph A. Farmer and his wife, ViAnn, Neil P. Farmer and his wife, Anne Preston, and Alison F. Cosby and her husband, Gary; also three stepchildren, Stewart A. Fowlkes, Vanessa P. Fowlkes, and Valerie H. Rafey; eight grandchildren, and seven stepgrandchildren; two nieces, and two nephews. Born October 19, 1925, Mr. Farmer was the son of Joseph L. and Cora C. Farmer. Mr. Farmer retired from The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in 1989 as Executive Vice President after more than 39 years of exceptional service to the Bank and the Federal Reserve System. A native of Richmond, Mr. Farmer, following service in the Navy during WWII, returned to the University of Richmond where he received a B.S. degree in Business Administration in 1948 and a J.D. degree in September 1950. He was also a graduate of The Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Mr. Farmer joined the Bank's staff in November 1950 as an investigator under Regulation W, a consumer credit regulation imposed during the Korean War. Several months later, he transferred to the Discount and Credit Department to administer Regulation X, a real estate credit regulation also imposed during the Korean War. Later in 1951 he joined the Legal Department, with which he continued to be associated. Mr. Farmer successively served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, and Senior Vice President and Special Legal Adviser. In 1986 he was named to the new position of Executive Vice President. Mr. Farmer was a 50-year member of the Virginia State Bar and a life member of the Virginia Bar Association. Mr. Farmer served as the District's Equal Employment Opportunity officer from 1971 to 1986 and was the senior officer in charge of constructing the Bank's new buildings at Richmond (occupied in 1978), Baltimore (occupied in 1982), and Charlotte (occupied in 1989). During 1986 Mr. Farmer was on loan to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, where he served as Deputy Director of the Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation. During his career, Mr. Farmer, along with the Treasury Department, developed the Book-Entry System for Treasury Securities. His contribution to the work of the Bank and the Federal Reserve System will endure as a legacy of excellence. Volunteer and community interests led him to serve as President of the Ginter Park Community Building and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Virginia AAU in the early 1960s. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, serving as President, U of R chapter, his senior year. He was currently Treasurer of Reveille United Methodist Church. Mr. Farmer was a member of Westwood Racquet Club and the Country Club of Virginia. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. at Reveille United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home, P.O. Box 1398, Brookneal, Va. 24528.

GRAY
Margaret Hester Gray (nee Hinkle) "Esther", went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2002 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Wannie F. Gray; her daughter, Imogene C. Keller and her husband, Erhard; three granddaughters, Kimberly Keller, Toni Markowski and her husband, Phil, and Sandra Mitchell and her husband, John; three great-grandchildren, Brian Markowski and Jack and Kasey Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. "Esther" was originally from West Virginia where she was raised and later moved to Baltimore working as "Rosy the Riveter" during WWII. She was a longtime member of the Arbutus (Maryland) Methodist Church. The Grays moved to Richmond in 1984 and resided on the southside since then. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will take place at Dale Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the New Chippenham Heart Center in lieu of flowers.

HAMLETT
Margaret Hulvey Hamlett formerly of Glen Allen, widow of Charles Henry Hamlett, died Saturday, July 13, 2002. Mrs. Hamlett was a retired employee of Richmond Dry Goods, Co., and a member of Hunton Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Helen Alexander of Carlisle, Pa., and Mrs. Grace Marshall of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 12 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunton Baptist Church.

JETT
Gaynell Garnett Jett, born August 28, 1913, of Sandston, formerly of Fredericksburg, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002. She is survived by her devoted children, Mary Anne Turner of Sandston, and Andrew Acree Jr. of Pottstown, Pa.; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Gertrude Adams, Ruby Garnett, and Sarah Loving; and her brother, Andrew Garnett. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Wright; and her brothers, Preston and Richard Garnett. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Monday (today) at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg, Va. JOHNSON
Departed this life July 11, 2002, Mrs. Nilah D. Johnson of 702 N. 27th St. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis H. Johnson Sr., and her sister, Dorothy Johnson. She is survived by one son, Louis H. Johnson Jr.; two daughters, Florence Johnson and Rita Munford; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew, a host of cousins, five sisters-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Tuesday, 12 Noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 "P" St., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell, interim pastor, Rev. JUDKINS
William Sinclair Judkins, son of Esther Dashiell Burke and Holland Ball Judkins, born October 13, 1919 in Alexandria, Virginia, died July 13, 2002, in Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Corbin Beverley Judkins; daughter, Catharine Judkins Douglass of New York City and her husband, Angus Stone Douglass; son, William Beverley Judkins of Richmond, and his wife, Lee Anne Judkins; sister, Esther Judkins Marshall of Yarmouth, Maine; brother, Holland Ball Judkins Jr. of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Corbin Burke Larson, Anne Carter Judkins, and Meredith Lee Judkins; and step-grandchildren, Remington Stone Douglass, Brooke Larson Thomas, and Graham Johnston Larson. Mr. Judkins attended Rye Country Day School in Rye, New York and was graduated from the Woodberry Forest School, and the University of Virginia. Immediately upon his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific as a Lt. j.g., on the Destroyer USS Conway (DD507). Following the war, Mr. Judkins joined the Coca-Cola Company. He retired as a vice president in 1981 in Atlanta. He moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he joined Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company as Vice President - Corporate Affairs, until his retirement in 1984. during his career, Mr. Judkins served on many boards, including the Women's Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, the Boys Club of Columbus, Ohio, and the Woodberry Forest School. He is a member of St. James's Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on July 17, 2002 at St. James's Episcopal Church in Richmond. Interment at Hollywood Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodberry Forest School, Woodberry Forest, Virginia 22989 or The Michael J. LACY
Alma Swann Lacy, 73, of Richmond, passed away July 14, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence (Ducky) Lacy; and brother, James F. Swann Jr. She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Lacy Sr. and his wife, Betty, Brenda L. Fairlamb and her husband, Joe, and Bonnie L. Fletcher and her husband, Jerry; sister, Joanne S. Hughes; three grandchildren, Michelle F. Mason, Anthony Fairlamb and T.J. Lacy Jr.; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle Mason and Taylor Lacy. Mrs. Lacy was a member of Glen Allen Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Patricia Rose Mason, 67, of Sandston, died Saturday, July 13, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Henry A. Mason Jr.; two daughters, Terri A. DesRoches and Katherine L. Crowder and husband, Ray Crowder Jr.; two sons, James L. Adams Jr. and Thomas W. Adams; one granddaughter, Elizabeth R. Harding; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Rose Garnett; one cousin, Mary Jane Mitchell and husband, Tom Mitchell of Fayetteville, N.C. Mrs. Mason was a retired employee of AT&T. The family would like to give special thanks to all the friends and caregivers of Mrs. Mason. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. She was the widow of Harvey Lee Newton, and is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Brown and her husband, Jim; sisters-in-law, Shannon Stuart, all of Mechanicsville, and Lula Newton of Buffalo Junction, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Edna (Aunt Edna) Saunders, 86, of 5402 Marian St., died Thursday, July 11, 2002. She was the widow of Lonnie A. Saunders. Surviving are six nieces, of them two devoted caregivers, Mae Jones and Lucille Pressley, Estella Rivers (Rev. Nathaniel), Bettina, Lessie and Bettie Gamble; one nephew, Edward Gamble (Gladys), all of Richmond; eight great-nieces, six great-nephews; a special cousin, Oswald Pittman (Sarah) of Lumberton, N.C.; caregivers, Lesterine Whitehead, Janice Williams and John D. Jones, her nephew. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., and where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12 Noon.
