HADDAD
Samira S. Haddad, 84, of Richmond, Va., departed this life March 17, 2001. She was the widow of Benny D. Haddad. She is survived by her children, Liliane H. Hadaya, Abla H. Khalife, Joseph B. Haddad, M.D.; and her sister, Minerva S. Audi. Also survived by her loving sons-in-law, Antoine Hadaya and Sami Khalife; and her grandchildren, Karine A. Hadaya, M.D., Tania H. Martin Achard, Cherine A. Hadaya, Raya S. Khalife, Karim S. Khalife, Zena S. Khalife, Leila M. Haddad, Benny J. Haddad; and her great-grandchildren, Guillaume Martin Achard and Myrna Martin Achard. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m., and where a Christian wake will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, PO Box 6359, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-6359.

HINSON-HARRELL
Amy Catherine Hinson-Harrell, 44, of Powhatan, passed away March 19, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Harrell; her parents, Gilmer and Bettie Hinson; a sister, Martha Jean Hinson of Danville; one niece, Amy Elizabeth Adkins; one nephew, Andrew James Adkins, both of Danville; and one special aunt, Violet P. Mackie of Jonesville, N.C. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24 at Manakin Episcopal Church, 985 Huguenot Trail. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or donations made to Sanctuaries Unique Garden Center (804) 897-0688 towards a memorial planting for Amy.

HORNER
Judith F. Horner, 50, a lifelong resident of Richmond, died Sunday, March 18, 2001. She is survived by her son, Rusty Horner; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace J. Fortune; two brothers, Jim Fortune Jr. and wife, Becky of San Francisco, Calif., and Randall H. Fortune and wife, Hedi of Burke, Va. Ms. Horner was a member of First Baptist Church and a retired employee of the commonwealth of Virginia. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park.

HOWARD
William K. Howard, 92, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 19, 2001. He retired from Richmond Defense Supply Depot after 35 years, after which he was a toll collector on the Boulevard Bridge for 20 years, and always gave out candy. He was known as the "Candy Man on the Bridge." Widower of Madelyn W. Howard, he is survived by stepdaughter and son-in-law, Ivy E. and George M. Starke; five stepgrandchildren, Larry R. Starke, Laura S. White, Diana P. Starke, Linda S. Boisseau and Carolyn L. Stargell; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Funeral notice later. Arrangements by the Billups Funeral Home.

JONES
Agnes Browder Jones, 82, of Blackstone, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2001. She was the widow of Grady Hamilton Jones and a retired Nottoway County Public School librarian. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Ellis of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Browder of Richmond, Va.; three children, Mary Jane Weatherford of Richmond, Va., David H. Jones of Athens, Ga. and Harry A. Jones of Chester, Va.; and five grandchildren, Grady and Ben Weatherford, Powell Jones and Sarah and Helen Jones. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Crenshaw United Methodist Church, Friends of the Blackstone Library, the Nottoway Historical Society and the Arts Council. The family will receive friends at the home, 116 Eighth St., Blackstone, Va. from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Blackstone Library, 415 South Main St., Blackstone, Va. 23825 or your favorite charity.

LEACH
Marian Burgess Leach, 92, of Richmond, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, March 18, 2001. She was the widow of W. Earl Burgess and Hugh Leach. She is survived by her son, John M. Burgess; stepson, Hugh Leach Jr., both of Richmond; sister, Margaret Robling of Huntington, W.Va.; and brother, Roger Wood of Buffalo Grove, Ill. Mrs. Leach was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, The Country Club of Virginia and was an active member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave, where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22 in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

McCANDLISH
Winchester lawyer, Charles S. McCandlish, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his residence after a long bout with cancer. He was 52 years old. Mr. McCandlish was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. McCandlish Jr. in Alexandria, Va. and was a grandson of the late Judge and Mrs. Frank Taylor Sutton Jr. of Richmond, Va. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Douglas McCaleb officiating. Arrangements are by Omps Funeral Home of Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 114 W. Boscawen St., Winchester, Va. 22601; Blue Ridge Hospice, Inc., 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, Va. 22601; or the Handley Regional Library (Funds for Books), 34 N. Loudoun St., Winchester, Va. 22601.

NEWCOMB
Marjorie A. Newcomb, 75, of Richmond, passed away March 19, 2001. She is survived by her two sons, Terry A. Newcomb and Robert L. Newcomb; two sisters, Madeline Hastings and Nettie Hazelwood; and a stepbrother, Gale Kaltz of Crestview, Fla.; two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at St Joseph's Home, 1503 Michaels Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. Christian Wake, and where a Mass of Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment 2 p.m., Williamsburg Memorial Park, Williamsburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Home, Richmond, Va. 23229.

PALMER
Hazel Butler Palmer of Dillwyn died March 19, 2001. She was the former owner of Hazel's Antiques on Hull Street and former owner of the Little Country Store, Dillwyn, and a former employee of Sears Roebuck and Co. on Broad Street in Richmond. She is survived by her husband, Raymond H. Bruce; a daughter, Gloria Hogge and husband, William of Shacklefords; a sister, Jean Droughman of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Marie Inge of West Point and Thomas Linwood Hogge of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Nicole and Tyler Inge. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

ROBERSON
John Milton Roberson, 78, of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Springfield, Va., retired from the disbursing office with the U.S. Senate and an accounting manager with HumRRO, passed away March 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marjorie Bates Roberson; two sons, Ken Roberson and his wife, Debi of Leawood, Kan., and David Roberson of Gaithersburg, Md.; two daughters, Barbara Roberson of Richmond and Janice Fisher and her husband, Randy of Midlothian; also eight grandchildren. Mr. Roberson was a life member and past chapter president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a member of the American Legion, Midlothian Post No. 186. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Springfield, Va., where services will be held at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. Interment at 2:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at Brandermill Woods Retirement Community Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

ROBINSON
Departed this life March 18, 2001, Mrs. Doris Ohree Robinson of Richmond. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

RUSSELL
Departed this life suddenly March 15, 2001, Calvin Russell. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pamela S. Russell; parents, Dorothy Carver and Alfoster Russell; three brothers, Vernon, Al Jr. and Little Chris; six sisters, Doretha, Shelia, Selita, Cassandra, Julie and Danielle; two uncles, Willie J. and Thomas Russell; four aunts, Doll, Betty, Betty and Rosa Spearman; a host of other relatives and friends, one devoted, Jimmie Woodson. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, 12 noon from New Jerusalem International Christian Ministries, 2910 North Ave., with Bishop Ollie C. Brown officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery.

SATTERWHITE
Georgie Parsley Satterwhite, 93, of Richmond, died Saturday, March 17, 2001. She was preceded in death by two sons, Alfred E. and George L. Satterwhite; was the widow of Alfred L. Satterwhite, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Floyd E. and Alma L. Satterwhite; five grandchildren, Gail, Eddie, Lois, Floyd Jr. and Mayme; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Satterwhite was a member of Pine St. Baptist Church for over 60 years, a Gold Star Mother, having lost one of her sons during World War II, and a retired machine operator with Liggett & Meyers Tobacco Company.

SKROBACK
Mrs. Laurice Lynch Skroback, of Emporia, widow of William Thomas Skroback, died Sunday, March 18, 2001. She is survived by one son, William T. "Billy" Skroback of Emporia; one daughter, June S. Church of Suffolk; one brother, James Aubrey Lynch and wife, Elaine; one sister, Barbara L. Krepsbach, all of Florida; two grandchildren, Jeffrey W. Church, Janie C. Brooks and husband, Clayton; one great-grandson, Allen Brooks; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Virginia. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Church will interment to follow in the church cemetery.

STALEY
Frances Oliver Staley, age 86, of Richmond, departed this life March 17, 2001. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving daughter, Alfreda M. Nelson of Richmond; two sons, Stanley Oliver of Charleston, W.Va. and Marvin R. Staley of Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, one devoted, Ethel Early of Richmond and Ruby Hart of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law, Lucy Oliver; three daughters-in-law, Willie Mae Oliver, Annie Mae Oliver and Olivia Staley; one son-in-law, Albert Nelson; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. Marshall D. Burgess officiating. Interment Zion Baptist Church, Westmoreland County, Va.

Departed this life March 16, 2001, Phillip L. Turpin of 705 So. Meadow St. He is survived by two daughters, Priscilla Turpin Smith and Phyllis Turpin Walton; four sons, Steven L., Phillip E., Bennie L. and Christopher L. Turpin; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one aunt, Courtney Nicholas; several cousins, among them, Arlene and Joanne Christopher; three daughters-in-law, Madames Shirleeta, Pamela and Wanda Turnpin; one son-in-law, Alonzo Walton; mother-in-law, Ruth Bruce; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1900 Rosewood Ave., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Ronnie Fleming, Pastor, officiating. Interment Glover Dale Cemetery in Fluvanna County. Family and friends assemble at the church, 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
