WALLERSTEIN
WALLGRSTBEN Benjamin Albert Wallerstein, age 91, died Sunday, March 18, 2001. He had been a lifelong resident of Richmond, leaving only to go away to attend the University of Pennsylvania and serving during WWII in the U.S. Navy in Norfolk. He was the president and founder of Wallerstein Insurance Agency and was in the insurance industry for over 50 years. He was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Ahabah, Jefferson Lakeside Country Club and the Richmond Jewish Community Center. He was active in the community throughout his life and with his beloved wife, Diane, studied many courses at VCU in later life. She preceded him in death in 1998. Mr. Wallerstein is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Irving Miller of Atlanta; and son, Jim Wallerstein of Richmond. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, David and Scott Miller of Atlanta; and Pam Wallerstein of Richmond. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at Hebrew Cemetery. The family requests any contributions be made to the Cardiac Consorteum at the Medical College of Virginia or Temple Beth Ahabah.

WELTON
Joseph Thomas Welton, 78, of Richmond, passed away March 19, 2001. He was a World War II Army veteran and the CEO of Welton Motor Freight. Mr. Welton was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, the Lodge of Strict Observance #207, A.F. & A.M., and Scottish Rite Bodies. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherrie Lee Welton. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Berger Welton; a son, Dean T. Welton, and his wife, Lesa C. Welton; and three grandsons, Andy, Michael, and Matthew Welton. Remains rest at the Central Chapel Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, March 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 21, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where a funeral service will be conducted Thursday, March 22, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Properties Endowment Fund of Pine Street Baptist Church, or Bon Secours Hospice, 5008 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.

WINGFIELD
Earl Wingfield of Richmond entered eternal rest March 15, 2001. He is survived by one daughter, Candace Quash; one brother, Alvin Wingfield; one son-in-law, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry Street, Ashland. Funeral Wednesday, 1 p.m. at New Chestnut Baptist Church, Mechanicsville. Rev. Bobby L. Gattison, pastor, officiating. Interment Georgetown Cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to funeral service. The Dabneys' Morticians in charge of arrangements.

WOODFIN
Mr. James E. (Butch) Woodfin Jr., 72, of Richmond, went to be home with the Lord on March 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Mae) Woodfin; four children, Lewis Woodfin, Faye Moltz, Brian Woodfin and Vickie Holton; his mother, Evelyn Woodfin; one sister, Carolyn Hicks; two brothers, Stanley (Bubba) Woodfin and Ronald (Casey) Woodfin and his wife, Shirley; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Park.

BROOKS
William Lee Brooks Sr., 77, of Glen Allen, Va., departed this life Monday, December 10, 2001. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mary "Lillie" Brooks; six daughters, AnnJeanette (Howard) Harris, Brenda (Arthur) Coleman, Rosa (Wilson) Miller, Faye Lewis, Theressa Brooks and Shelly (Gregory) Dunaway; one son, William L. (Kimberly) Brooks Jr., all of Glen Allen, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Evelyn Lewis, Geneva White, Mildred Norris, Catherine Bates, Agnes Lipscombe; one brother, Robert Brooks; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. His remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, 518 N. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. BUTLER
Joseph Janson Butler III, 58, of Richmond, died December 11, 2001. Survivors include his sister, Sandra Butler Apperson; niece, Maria M. Warren; great-niece, Michelle Warren; and great-nephew, Donald L. Warren Jr. Interment will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Liver Foundation.

CRAWLEY
Kenneth L. Crawley, 47, of Richmond, died December 10, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Keneitha and Kensley Crawley; devoted father, Rev. Russell L. Crawley of Charles City, Va.; sister, Patricia C. Jones; three brothers, Cornell, Guy and Nathan Crawley; one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, several aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 10 a.m. Saturday Mr. Crawley will rest at Union Baptist Church, where services will be held 12 noon. Pastor Tommy Drayton officiating. Eulogy Rev. Russell Crawley. Burial church cemetery. Please omit food.

FEGGINS
Departed this life December 11, 2001, Mrs. Martha B. Feggins. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St. Funeral notice later.

GARDNER
Lewis Taylor Gardner, 74, of Manakin, Va., died December 12, 2001. He has scheduled his last golf game. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Martha Anne; his three daughters and their husbands, Anne Louise and Michael Frazer, Mary Grace and John Stanley and Alice Gaye and Maury Flagg; his beloved grandchildren, Eiren, Christopher and Matt; his brothers, Tom Gardner and Bill Gardner; his sister, Mary Beth Warner; his nieces, nephews, and his many, many good friends. Lewis graduated from the Virginia High School in Bristol, Va. and attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Lew was an active member of Hermitage Country Club and participated in the Senior Men's Golf Association. Lew was also a proud member in good sitting of the Goochland Inside Straight and Literary Society, as well as several charitable organizations. His family would like to celebrate his life with his many friends at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2001 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. Lewis will be greatly missed by his family and his friends. Memorials to the Goochland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Manakin Station No. 1, P.O. Box 306, Goochland, Va. 23063, are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

GOLDBERG
Mrs. Helen Harris Goldberg, 81, of Richmond, died on December 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Morris Goldberg; two daughters, Sheryl Katz and her husband, Edward, and Rita Goldberg; and one granddaughter, Frances Katz. Mrs. Goldberg was a volunteer at Jewish Family Services in Richmond. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., with interment to follow at B'nai Shalom Cemetery at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth-El, Hadassah or Bon Secours Hospice.

HAYES
Departed this life December 11, 2001, Mrs. Willie Ann Hayes of 943 Wynfield Terrace. She is survived by two daughters, Angela L. Powell and Patricia Hayes; four sons, William "Carl" Hayes, Paul Hayes, Ronnie Hayes and Wavord Hayes; five grandchildren, Bercinia, Christopher, Diavon, Kevin and Rashadia; four great-grandchildren, Keyon, Jaion, Hakeem and Shakira; her mother, Mrs. Ola Sumpter; one brother, Joseph Sumpter of Charlotte, N.C.; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; two daughters-in-law, Yvette Hayes and Judith Hayes; one sister-in-law, Hazel Sumpter; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Hood Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 16 W. Clay Street, where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time, Dr. Kevin McGill, pastor, officiating. Interment in Bennettsville, S.C. Family and friends assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Friday.

HELMAN
Daniel W. Helman, age 89, of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Sidney, Ohio, went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Wednesday, December 12, 2001. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine M. Helman. Mr. Helman served in the United States Air Corps during WWII, attended Miami University of Ohio and the School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia, served as a loan officer in consumer banking, was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Sidney, Ohio, and was active in many community service organizations. He was the loving father of Karen Anthony, Midlothian, Va. Other survivors include a son-in-law, Dr. Michael Anthony; grandchildren, Michele Anthony, Midlothian, Va., Michael Craig Anthony, Charleston, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Graham and Benjamin Swoope, both of Midlothian, Va.; sister, Miriam Winans, Westlake, Ohio; and brother, Richard Helman, Willard, Ohio. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home of Mike and Karen Anthony, 13733 Long Cove Place, Midlothian, Va. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of Dan Helman to Needle's Eye Ministries, P.O. HENRY
Monica M. (nee Greene) Henry, age 31, of Ashland, Va. and formerly of Bristol Borough, Pa., died on December 9, 2001 in Richmond. Born in Bristol, Pa., Monica graduated Bristol High School in 1988. She had been fighting a long battle with leukemia. She is survived by her husband, Winston L. Henry Jr. and her parents, Thomas F. and Kathleen B. Greene. She is also survived by a sister, Melissa A. Jones; two brothers, Thomas F. Greene Jr. and Todd M. Greene with his spouse Michele Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday evening, December 14, 2001 after 7 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home, Bristol, Pa. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's R.C. Church in Bristol. Donations may be made in her name to the Medical College of Virginia, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, 1300 E. Marshall Street, Richmond, Va. 23219.

HOOD
Margaret Cammack Hood died December 12, 2001. She was born September 24, 1912 in Washington, D.C. and is survived by her husband, James Franklin Hood; daughter, Virginia H. Scott; grandsons, Thomas K. Scott and his wife, Katherine, James F.H. Scott and his fiancee, Kelli Bender, Charles E. Scott and his wife, Lisa; great-grandson, Kile A. Scott; and brother, Thomas A. Cammack. Mrs. Hood was a member of the Class of 1933 of Westhampton College. There will be a graveside service at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C. at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital, Low Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, 1001 East Marshall St., Richmond, Va., 23219.

KELLY
Lucille Stafford "Patty Cake" Kelly went home to be with the Lord December 8, 2001. She was the daughter of the late David Morton Stafford. She is surived by her mother, Emma White Stafford; two daughters, Carla Turner and her husband, Miguel and Jennifer Cooper and her husband, James; four grandchildren, Miguel, Demarcus, Jaia and James; three brothers, David Franklin of Arizona, Ralph Wesley and Fred Lee Stafford; one sister, Attorney Bernice Stafford Turner, all of Richmond; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Lucille will rest starting at 10 a.m. Friday, December 14 at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Ave, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Rev. Ronnie L. Fleming officiating. Final resting place Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Doris Mae Lewis, 83, of Virginia Beach, passed away on December 11, 2001. Doris was a member of the Open Door Chapel, and the widow of the late David R. Lewis. She is survived by her brother, Authur F. Water, wife Audry, and their daughter, Maryland of Richmond; and foster brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie Patton, wife Demera of Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, December 14, 2001 at 12 noon at Providence Road Methodist Church Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Sophie J. Lewis, 96, of Hanover County, entered into eternal rest on December 10, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Mitchell Lewis. She is survived by her children, Deacon Edward Lee (Josephine) Lewis, Linwood Lewis, Martha Wilson, Earl Lewis and Julia (Willie) Dendy; two sisters, Ellen May Lewis and Ruby Preston; and a host of other relatives and friends.
