Terri Lynne Hairston
Terri Lynn Hairston, 34, of Bassett, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005.
Bassett Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

William L. Handy
William Lloyd Handy, 73, of Meadows of Dan, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on Jan. 31, 1932, to Robert Ernest Handy and India Augusta Williams Handy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Dillon Handy; three sisters, Ruby Handy Shelton, Birdie Handy Hughes and Lucy Handy Lawson; and three brothers, Lewis Handy, Winfred Handy and Clayton Handy.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Benny Handy of Fancy Gap; a daughter, Tina Shelton of Stuart; a stepson, Wendell Alderman of Meadows of Dan; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Patrick County, 835 Woodland Drive, Suite 101, Stuart, Va. 24171, or Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vesta Va. 24177.

Lillie A. Haskins
Lillie Mae Amos Haskins, 81, of 1288 Sago Road, Callands, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 1, 1924, in Pittsylvania County to Oscar J. Amos and Blanche Adkins Amos. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Giles A. Haskins; four brothers, Richard, Boy Blue, Al and Leslie Amos; two sisters, Fannie Haskins and Rachel Rigney; and a grandson, Jason Martin.
She graduated from Callands High School and had worked in the sewing room at Bassett-Walker in Chatham. She was a member of Christian Tabernacle.
Surviving are four sons, Ronnie Haskins of Penhook, Trent Haskins of Callands, Barry Haskins of Chatham and Perry Haskins of Danville; four daughters, Sandra K. Jones of Chatham, Rita Martin, Pam Haskins and Bonnie Haskins, all of Callands, a sister, Patsy Gauldin of Callands; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Revs. Jonathan Hilliard, Roy Parker and Kenneth Terry officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home of daughter Rita Martin, 2572 Triangle School Road, Callands.
Memorials may be made to Christian Tabernacle Church, 1602 Wynell Road, Callands, Va. 24530 or Callands Volunteer Fire Department, 11741 Callands Road, Callands, Va. 24530.

Sylvia H. Owens
The funeral for Sylvia H. Owens, 88, of Fieldale, who died Dec. 16, 2005, was held Monday at Clearview Wesleyan Church with the Rev. James Long officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Abbey.
Pallbearers were Steve Hite, Steve Stultz, Marvin Cannaday, Buddy Adkins Sr., Kenneth Cassell, Christal Adkins and Jeanie Shannon.
Bassett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James V. Staples
The funeral for James V. "J.J." Staples, 53, of Stuart, who died Dec. 16, 2005, was held Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Dr. Roger Hagwood officiating. Burial was in the Loggins family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Alfred Brammer, Chris Corbett, Wayne Craig, Stanley Fain, William Hines, Alfred Martin, Richard Puckett, Terry Tilley, Travis Nowlin and Keith Staples.

Melvin A. Thomas
The funeral for Melvin Alba Thomas, 83, of Meadows of Dan, who died Dec. 17, 2005, was held Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Dwayne Hamm officiating. Burial was in Laurel Fork Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with military honors by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
Members of the honor guard also served as pallbearers.

Jerry Barker
BRADYVILLE, TENN. -- The funeral for Jerry Barker, 39, of Bradyville, formerly of Martinsville, Va., who died Dec. 18, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services. Burial will be at the Barker family cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1966, to Harry Barker Sr. and Daisy Edna McMillan Barker of Readyville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Barker; and a brother, Harry Barker Jr.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Brittany Barker of Tennessee; two sisters, Janice Warren of Murfreesboro and Sandra Bowman of Midland, Maine; and a brother, Jesse Barker of Ridgeway, Va.

Estelle C. Clark
Estelle C. Clark, 88, of Bassett, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in North Carolina on Oct. 14, 1917, to Carper Clark and Attie Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Emerson Craig and Robert Lee Wilson; a son, Troy Craig; brothers, Raymond Clark, Chester Clark, Coy Clark and Junior Clark; and a sister, Era Widner.
She was a member of Solid Rock Full Gospel Church.
Surviving are her husband, William Clark of the Blue Ridge Rehab Center; two sons, Richard Elwood Craig of Roanoke and Donnie R. Craig of Pleasant Grove; three daughters, Patricia McFarland of Collinsville, Brenda Gibson of Nebraska and Janet Turner of Bassett; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mageline Triplett of Bassett, Genevieve Cassady of Delaware and Virginia Foley of Florida.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bassett Funeral Service with Pastors Jimmy Wood and Alvin Nunley officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Greene
James Greene, 61, of 706 Fourth St., Martinsville, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Hairston Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

David L. Hairston
The funeral for David Leon Hairston, 53, of 371 Wells Hollow Road, Bassett, who died Dec. 17, 2005, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church. Bishop Loretta Parks will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour before the funeral at the church.
Hairston was born in Henry County on Nov. 4, 1952, to David S. Hairston and Margaret M. Williamson Hairston of Bassett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Lorraine Hairston.
He graduated from St. Augustine University in Raleigh, N.C., and taught at Richard H. Clark School, Martinsville Middle School and Axton Elementary School, for 20 years. He was involved in a number of school functions throughout the years.
He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church, where he taught Sunday School and was head deacon.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Kenneth R. Hairston and Charlie M. Hairston, both of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Collins Funeral Services in Bassett is in charge of arrangements.
