NIGHTINGALE
Mr. Ernest Benjamin Nightingale departed this life July 26, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & son Funeral Home is serving his family.

PRICE
Edna Williams Price, 91, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Pamplin, Va., died Friday, July 27, 2001, at The Laurels of Willow Creek. She was the wife of the late Alvin Noel Price. Born in Appomattox County, April 15, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Baldwin and Radford W. Williams. Edna was a life-long member of Pamplin Methodist Church. Mrs. Price is survived by two sons, W.L. "Bill" Price and Gerald Price, both of Richmond, Va., eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sons, James A. Price and Ronald W. Price, both of Richmond, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Pamplin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Covington officiating. Burial will follow in the Pamplin Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends today (Saturday) from 4 to 6 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox.

REID
Ashby Ray Reid Jr., of Richmond, Va., died on Friday, July 27, 2001, in his home. He is survived by his wife, Jean Biscoe Reid; and his daughters, Cynthia Reid Glass of Lynchburg, Va., and Ashby Reid Rushing of Arlington, Va. Raised in Warrenton, Va., and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Ray embarked on a career in sales, ultimately launching his own company, Printer Systems Corporation. In 1991, Ray received a heart transplant at the Medical College of Virginia. Ray recovered from his transplant to become a productive and dynamic entrepreneur, offering consulting services to diverse new and established small businesses. Ray also served as an elder in Hebron Presbyterian Church. A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Fredericksburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Children's Home, care of Hebron Presbyterian Church, 1040 Shallow Well Road, Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, 23103, (804) 784-4018.

SANDERSON
Irvin L. Sanderson, Sr., 84, of Richmond, died Friday, July 27, 2001. He was husband of the late Virginia Dare McGee Sanderson. He is survived by his sons, Irvin L. Sanderson Jr., Richard A. Sanderson and Carol Burnette and Michael W. Sanderson and Vickie Holton; his brother and sisters, Mae Wilson, James Sanderson, Elizabeth Waldron; two grandsons, Jeremiah L. and Brian C. Sanderson; and many extended family members and friends. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

TAYLOR
Gary B. Taylor of Richmond departed this life July 26, 2001. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St. Funeral notice later.

THAGARD
James "Jimmy" Thagard, age 78, of the Masonic Home of Virginia, died Thursday, July 26, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve C. Thagard; two sons, James Thagard of Center Cross, Va., Gregory Thagard of Chesterfield; one stepdaughter, Delores Wells of Dunsville, Va.; three grandchildren, Kayleigh, Lauren and Jamie; two stepgrandchildren, Angel Chlebo and Jeffrey G. Wells; three sisters, Evelyn Black of Tallahassee, Fla., Gladys Falwell of Highland Springs and Dorothy Glenn of Richmond. Mr. Thagard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 144 and Arlington Masonic Lodge No.102, A.F.&A.M. Remains rest at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Amelia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia or to the Rappahannock Christian Center Building Fund. Arlington Lodge will hold Masonic memorial rites 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

BANTON
Clarence R. Banton, 67, of Mechanicsville, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Lois Banton; a daughter, Carolyn Martin; two sons, Clarence (Bucky) Banton Jr. and his wife, Susan and Vernon Banton; three sisters, Joyce Badanas, Gertie Goode, Helen Payne; and a brother, Charles Banton; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Banton was a member of Glen Allen Lodge #131 AF&AM and Donovan Lodge #75 AF&AM in Deltaville. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association. There will a Masonic Memorial Service 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

BARNES
Robert Louis Barnes Sr. of 3919 Moss Side Ave. died May 3, 2001. Surviving are a son, Robert L. Barnes Jr.; a sister, Eunice Locket of Garrisburg, N.C., and her husband, George; host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. His remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 1 p.m. at Hill Chapel Baptist Church, Jackson, N.C., with interment church cemetery.

BILTER
Anna Alvino Bilter, 88, of Chesterfield, died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Lucy Corr Village. She was born in Manhattan, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Assunta Vitozzi Alvino. Mrs. Bilter was a retired sales clerk for Thalhimers Department Store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Bilter Sr., also preceded by three sisters and four brothers. Mrs. Bilter is survived by two sons, Alex Sr. and wife, Carol Bilter of Bon Air, Va., Frederick J. Jr. and wife, Nancy S. Bilter of Chesterfield; one daughter, Delia Halstead of Chester; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and five sisters. A Eucharist of the Resurrection will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Monsignor Robert Perkins officiating. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, In Memory of Mrs. Anna A. Bilter, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Dale section of Lucy Corr Village and all the staff members at Lucy Corr.

BRANSFORD
Thelma Harwell Bransford, 100, formerly of Fork Union, died May 4, 2001 in a Charlottesville Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Thomas Harwell and Eva Anne Moore Harwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter McGuire Bransford and an infant daughter, Constance Bransford. Survivors include four daughters, Isabelle Ksanda, Barbara Lacy, Patricia Allen and Judith Randle; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. Mrs. Bransford was an active member of the Fork Union Baptist for more than 75 years, a long time Sunday School teacher and past president of the Women's Missionary Union, She was a past regent of the Point of Fork NSDAR Chapter, was a past president of the Fluvanna Garden Club and a past director of Nature Camp. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 7 at the Fork Union Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the Fork Union Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Fork Union Memorial Cemetery. The Reverend William J. Bess and Reverend L.W. Allen will officiate. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Fork Union Baptist Church, P.O. Box 67, Fork Union, Va. 23055. Sheridan Funeral Home of Kents Store in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTIAN
Clarence E. "L.A." Christian, age 70, formerly of 3304 Woodrow Ave., departed this life on May 3, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos J. and Hattie M. Christian; three brothers and three sisters, He is survived by a loving family of one sister, Mary F. Cohen; five brothers, Calvin, Harold W., Frederick D., Irvin B. and Elton G. Christian; five sisters-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews, among them two devoted, Sandra D. Benoit and Sara L. Cohen; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. Rev. Paul A. Coles officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Edward (Ed) A. Dobb, age 49, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 6, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Linda V. Dobb; his children, Greg E. Dobb, Eric L. Dobb, both of Richmond and Scott W. Dobb of Gloucester, Va.; also six grandchildren, Joey, Zachary, Savannah, Abigail, Sean and Tiffany; two sisters, Karen L. Glaze of Gloucester, Cindy D. King of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother, Leonard D. Dobb of Richmond; his uncle, Stuart Dobb. Mr. Dobb was a member of Parham Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, and where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

EADES
Doris Ann Eades, 76, of Richmond, died Friday, May 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Eades Sr. and her son, Thomas James (Bubba) Eades Jr. She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Isom and husband, Garland, Carolyn Hammond and husband, Frank, Linda Townsend and husband, Bill and Diane Sellers; one son, Dennis Eades; one granddaughter, eight grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Eades was a retired employee of the Pohlig Corrugated Paper Company and AT&T Telephone Company. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 12 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Highland Springs. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

EARLE
Corinne Johnson Earle, widow of Captain Robert August Earle, died May 5, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Corinne E. Lander of Boulder, Colo.; a son, Robert A. Earle Jr. of Richmond; her grandsons, James F. Lander of Broomfield, Colo., and C. Gibson Earle of Richmond; her granddaughters, Gail L. Lewis of Westminster, Colo., Corinne E. LaManna of Norwalk, Conn., and Carrie E. Fitzsimmons of Boston, Mass.; four great-grandchildren, Meagan and Parker Lewis, Diego Lander and Corinne LaManna. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert A. Earle III. She was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, Va., and from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., where she graduated with honors, and received a Master's degree from New York University in New York, N.Y. In conjunction with her husband's military service, she had the opportunity to live throughout the U.S. before retiring to Lancaster, Va. in 1965, where she was active in Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church, and a member of Cobb's Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the White Stone Woman's Club and Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library, and the Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club. They became members of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church upon moving to Williamsburg in September 1988. A memorial service will be held at Williamsburg Landing, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Dr., Williamsburg, on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Randolph-Macon Woman's College, 2500 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, Va. 24503. Bucktrout of Williamsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
