BOWLES
Viola "Ginny" Campbell Bowles died Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Buford Bowles; and is survived by her sons, William, Donald, Carroll and Richard Bowles; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also six sisters, Beulah Mowbray, Helen Weaver, Thelma Owen, Millie DeHaven, Emma Shiflett and Libbie Bowles; two brothers, Melvin and Ernest Campbell. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

BOWLIN
Charles W. Bowlin, age 73, a retired carpenter of Crewe, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Patty K. Bowlin; three children, Jasper L. Bowlin of Chesterfield, Linda B. Armes of Crewe, and Kathy B. Olson of Madison, Miss.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Bowlin; and one sister, Mary Britton. Funeral services will be held at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2001. Interment in Crewe Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

BRAXTON
Departed this life December 9, 2001, Mrs. Julia Banks Manning Braxton of 1717 Bellvue Ave. She is survived by her daughter, Theodora (Bailley) Manning-Jackson; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins and Son Funeral Home. After 10 a.m. Thursday, her remains will rest at Fifth Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends until 11 a.m. where funeral services will be conducted by Rev. F. Todd Gray. Interment, Riverview Cemetery.

Departed this life December 7, 2001, Mrs. Olivia E. Carter of 1816 Watts Lane. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Paul Carter Jr.; five daughters, Paulette (Richard Sr.) Crowder, Paula (Fredrick) Hilliard, Shelia (Calvin) Johnson-Warren, Cassandra (Damon) Johnson, and Andrea (Stanley) Rustin; 12 grandchildren, Robert Scott, Sabrina Price, Armand Scott, Marcelus Johnson, Desmond Pamplin, Mebeke Scott, Tamara Johnson, Jasper Thacker Jr., Shanita Johnson, Richard Crowder Jr., Jason Thacker and Mercedes Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Hargrove Jr.; two sisters, Gloria (William Sr.) Morgan and Joyce (Raymond) Woods; a host of nieces and nephews, among them one devoted nephew, Andre' Moore; devoted cousins, Ruth Jones of Baltimore, Md., Mary Ellen Payne, Louise Tiny Clarke of Brookneal, Va. and Earl King Sr. of Richmond; three sisters-in-law, Odessa Belton of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mary Ellen Ridley and Bertha Dempsey, both of Newport News, Va.; one honorary family member, Robert G. Lee; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th St., where the family will receive friends Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. Remains will lie in state Thursday 12 noon at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, 2301 Cedar St., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Benjamin W. Robertson, pastor. Dr. Willie C. Thompson officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

CHAPMAN
Margaret O. Chapman, age 91, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. She is survived by two nephews, Nelson L. Kennedy Sr. and Donald R. Traser; seven great-nephews and one great-niece. Miss Chapman was a longtime member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church (formerly Laurel Street Church), where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was retired from High's Ice Cream. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, in Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements by Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel.

COOK
Mr. Robert Lee Cook of 1221 Brookland Park Plaza departed this life December 6, 2001. He is survived by his devoted wife, Fannie Cook; daughter, Mrs. Bertha McCurty; stepson, Carnell Walton; step-daughter, Asheba Omen El-J; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, among them devoted, Walter Cook, Beatrice "Little B" Williams and Tammie Walton; sisters, Anna Burton, Margie Morgan and Ethel Slade; brother, Nelson Cook; brother-in-law, James Hill; sisters-in-law, Mary Wright and Gladys Turner; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home. After 11 a.m. Thursday, his remains rest at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Rev. Kenneth Dennis officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

DAHLKE
Dr. H. Otto Dahlke had a long year of fighting for recovery from a massive stroke in June of 2000, which left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. He died of pneumonia on November 27, 2001, leaving a spouse, Ruth; and a son, Carl, whose partner in life is Claire Feinson. Dr. Dahlke was a teacher of sociology brought to Richmond by Dick Lodge, and taught at the Graduate School of Social Work at VCU for 13 years. The whole family had been keenly interested in humanistic values. Otto Dahlke's book on values was published early in his career, and the topic continued to be his biggest interest. A memorial service will be held at the Friends Meetinghouse of Richmond in late January.

EDWARDS
Departed this life December 8, 2001, Manchee LayFayee Edwards. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Crowell. He leaves to mourn his daughter, Shardell Robinson; son, Manchee LayFayee Edwards Jr.; two grandchildren, Roshard and Deshawn Robinson; his loving mother, Willis Edwards; two sisters, Tyrus and Hazel; five brothers, Thomas, Ricardo, Curtis, Andre and Kevin; one sister-in-law, Princina; great-aunt, Lillie Davis; great-great-aunt, Agnes Edwards; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many devoted friends. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. from 31st Street Baptist Church, 823 North 23rd St. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. EVANS
Josephine Evans departed into the loving arms of her eternal rest on December 9, 2001 after a long illness which she faced with courage and humility. To celebrate a life filled with love for her family are her loving and devoted daughter, Elizabeth A. Guarnieri and her loving son-in-law, Harold P, Guarnieri; her four grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Harvlir, Stephen Michael, David Kyle and Deborah Marie Guarnieri; two daughters-in-law, Kathleen Horne Guarnieri and Elizabeth Lee Guarnieri; one son-in-law, David Havlir; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Grace Guarnieri and Lauren Josephine Havlir; a surviving brother, Vincent Evan; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, among them a beloved nephew, Judge Gifford Cappellini and a loving niece, Mary Evan. A memorial service in honor of her life will be held for family members at her home. A private service will be held in Wilkes Barre, Pa. where she will join her departed family in the peace of new life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Mary's Hospital Foundation Office, in memory of Josephine Evans, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 710, Richmond, Va. 23226.

GILES
William Franklin Giles, 61, of Newport News, formerly of Richmond, died Monday, December 10, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Cornelia W. Giles; two nieces, one nephew, six great-nieces, one great-nephew, one great-great-niece and four great-great-nephews. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednedsay and where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 13. Entombment in Bermuda Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2:30 p.m.

HARRIS
Elder Aubrey David Harris departed this life on December 5, 2001. He leaves to cherish memories a devoted wife, Mrs. Shirley Harris; two daughters, one son, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two stepdaughters, two stepsons, four stepgrandchildren, five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. His remains will be in state Wednesday (today) 12 noon at the St. James United Holy Church, 16 E. 28th St., where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Bishop Isaiah Williams officiating. Louis H. Johnson Sr. of 702 N 27th St., died December 8, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Nilah D. Johnson; two daughters, Florence B. Johnson and Rita V. Mumford; one son, Louis H. Johnson Jr.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-children; two brothers, James and Leon Johnson; three sisters, Mollie Ashe, Lucy Dandridge and Gladys Atkins; one daughter-in-law, Martha E. Johnson other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., Rev. Lance Watkins officiating. KELLY
Lucille Stafford "Patty Cake" Kelly went home to be with the Lord December 8, 2001. Lucille will lie in state Friday, December 14 at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Ave, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon.

KENDALL
Julia Mae Cooke Kendall, 74, of Richmond, crossed over Monday, December 10, 2001. She was the widow of her beloved husband of 59 years, Franklin Gregory Kendall and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara J. and Donald R. Smith and Sandra K. and Houston F. Shiflett Jr.; five grandsons and their wives, Michael E. and Judy Jarvis, Joseph M. and Debbie Jarvis, Ricky D. and Cheryl Jarvis, Kenneth W. and Kim Shiflett, Kevin M. and Tammy Shiflett; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Duncan G. Cooke Jr. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday (today). Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

KIVIKKO
Dennis Kivikko Sr., 57, kind and loving man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong professional union activist and most recently Secretary Treasurer of the Union Label and Service Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, passed away due to the lung disease pulmonary fibrosis on December 6, 2001. He and his family made their homes in Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, and since 1984 Miodlothian, Va. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marge; sons, Dennis Jr, 38 and Darek, 28; daughter-in-law, Donna; granddaughters, Kelsey, 8 and Karsyn, 4; and brothers, Reino and Kevin. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va.
