SAYAS
Lester Joseph "Boy" Sayas, 60, of Richmond, formerly of New Orleans, La., passed away December 5, 2001. He was predeceased by his mother, Alvira Sayas and his sister, Jackie Sayas. Mr. Sayas was survived by his devoted friend and partner, Steven C. Effinger; his father, Lester P. Sayas; three sisters, Joyce Horne, Diane Haywood, and Iris Aguillard all of New Orleans, La.; and a brother, David Sayas of Alabama. Mr. Sayas was a veteran of the U.S Air Force and was a computer operator for the Virginia Department of Accounts. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2001 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Bon Air, with the Rev. William H. Wickham, III officiation, An inurnment in Westhampton Memorial Park will be private.

SHEFFIELD
Mary Frame Sheffield, 92, of Midlothian, went to be with the Lord December 10, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton D. Sheffield Sr.; and is survived by a daughter, Patricia Wright and her husband, Ralph; two sons, Alton D. Jr. and his wife, Ann, Robert N. and his wife, Betty; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Frame; and sister, Dolly Potts. Mrs. Sheffield was a retired teacher with 48 years of service in Chesterfield County, and still taught the Fidelis Sunday School class at Bethel Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, W.M.U. A reception for family and friends will be held at the church following the service.

STALLARD
V. Elizabeth Stallard, 49, of Weems, died December 8, 2001. She is survived by her beloved son, Ashley Conrad Stallard-Bobb of Eugene, Ore.; her father, Dewey Hobart Stallard of Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington, Va.; her sister, Jane Stallard Shubin and husband, Greg of Bellevue, Wash.; her sister, Karin Neel Stallard and husband, Thompson Smith of Charlo, Mont.; her uncle and aunt, Jim and Lovis Countiss of Abingdon, Va.; her uncle and aunt, Don and Carol Stallard of Madison, Ohio; her uncle and aunt, Frank and Mary Stallard of Atlanta, Ga.; her uncle and aunt, A.A. and Patsy Countiss of Bristol, Tenn.; and her aunt, Geraldine Countiss of Bristol, Va. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Countiss Stallard. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 14, at 10 a.m. at the Historic Christ Church, Irvington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in memory of V. Elizabeth Stallard to the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, or Save the Bay.

WILTSHIRE
Earl H. Wiltshire of Gum Spring, Va. died Sunday, December 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Doris P. Wiltshire; his daughter, Jean Marie Wiltshire; and several nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (today) in Gum Spring United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. BRAME
Mr. A.H. "Homer" Brame, age 69, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Marion Davis Thompson of the home; a sister, Eleanor Louise Brame Harris of Strasburg, Pa.; three stepchildren, Carly S. Harris of Richmond, Sylvia S. Meadows of Blackstone, and Jackie S. Morehouse of Little Rock, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three nieces, three great-nieces, two great-nephews, Mrs. Elizabeth W. Weaver, Darrell A. Weaver, Gayle W. Register and Cynthia W. Kidwell; special friend, Annie Mae Jones and Peggy's Miss Priss. Mr. Brame was preceded in death by Peggy Weaver Brame. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, by Rev. Sylvia Meadows and Rev. Ed Johnson at Farrar Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Alvin Eugene Brooks Sr. (Spook) went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Carol S. Brooks; son, Alvin Brooks Jr.; daughter, Alvina Brooks; grandchildren, Sean Brooks and Kierra Barber; devoted mother-in-law, Helen Shepperson; two brothers, Cornelius and Irvin Brooks; four sisters, Shirley B. Thomas, Geraldine B. Armstead, Vernelle B. Yates and Carolyn H. Brooks; two aunts, Dorothy Brown and Margaret Harris of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers-in-law, Roy Thomas, Herbert Armstead and devoted, Lawrence Shepperson; five sisters-in-law, Sylvia Brooks, Jean Blacknell, Rose Taylor, Judy Taylor and Doris Shepperson; a host of nieces and nephews, two devoted, Stacey Shepperson and Frank Harris; several great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 1 p.m. Rev. Ronald C. Taylor officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends assemble at the funeral home Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.

BROWN
Willie Jerleen Brown passed away Friday, August 10, 2001. She was the widow of Wade Hampton Brown and is survived by two sons, Roderick Dockery and Wade H. Brown II; four daughters, Cynthia Brown, Phyllis Raikes and her husband, Donald V. Raikes, Bridget Tuck and Sallie Johnson and her husband, David Johnson; seven grandchildren, Donald, Wade, Christina, Tiffany, Stephanie, Eric, and Ryan; other devoted family and friends. We love you, Mom. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., with the family receiving friends the hour before the service. Interment private.

CARTER
Ruth Huntley Carter, 80, of Richmond, widow of Wilbur E. Carter Sr., passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by one son, Wilbur E. (Buddy) Carter Jr. She is survived by two sons, Bill Carter and his wife, Anna and Bob Carter and his wife, Dee; a sister-in-law, Beverly Carter, all of Richmond; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10) from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, followed by a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6359, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-6359.

DAVIS
Ida Virginia Scales Davis of 3410 Griffin Ave. entered into eternal rest on August 8, 2001. She was preceded in death by her father, James S. Scales Sr. and brother, James S. Scales Jr. She was married to the late Monte Douglas Davis and from this union their daughter, Dunhree Alyson was born. In addition to a loving and devoted daughter, Ida leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory her mother, Ida V. Scales; three sisters, Shirley S. Craig, Janice S. Jeter, and Maude S. Saunders of Richmond; one brother, Welforde W. Scales of Chevy Chase, Md.; three aunts, Frances Daniel and Constance McEwen of Columbus, Ga. and Louise Wood of Charles City; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; two brothers-in-law, Leon D. Craig Sr. and Frank J. Saunders; other relatives and friends, among them, Raymond E. Archer. Ida was educated in the Richmond Public Schools. She graduated from Armstrong High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Union University. She taught in the Richmond Public School System for 32 years and retired in 1991. She was a lifelong member of Fourth Baptist Church, where she participated in numerous organizations. Ida was a member of the Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was also a member of Continental Societies Inc. and the Retired Teachers Assoc., and a past member of the Coalition of 100 Black Women. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where an Alpha Kappa Alpha Memorial service will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Remains will lie in state Tuesday, 12 noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 "P" Street, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell, interim pastor, officiating. Eulogy by Dr. Robert L. Taylor, pastor emeritus. Burial Riverview Cemetery.

Departed this life August 10, 2001, Earl Dyer Sr. of 653 Westover Hill Blvd. He is survived by three daughters, Yodorah A. Dyer, Venetia Dyer-Frances and Dana D. Griffin; three sons, Earl Jr., Ervin E. and Marcus D. Dyer; 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Thelma Burrell; one brother, Robert Dyer; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two daughters-in-law, Crystal Y. and Anna M. Dyer; two sons-in-law, C. Byron Frances and Shawn L. Griffin; two sisters-in-law, Virgie and Maude Dyer; and other relatives and friends, among them devoted, Frances Jones. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church, corner of First and W. Leigh St., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Paul Coles, Pastor, Rev. Julia Neal officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. EDWARDS
Raymond C. Edwards, 86, of Richmond, died Sunday, August 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret W. Edwards (Becky); a daughter, Elizabeth E. Wittie and her husband, Joseph G. Wittie; beloved grandsons, Collin E. and Mason J. Wittie, all of Richmond; two sisters, Rachel E. Simonton and Ann E. Freeman, both of Maryland; also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Edwards was a member of Grove Avenue Baptist Church, a Merchant Marine during World War II, retired from Exxon after 25 years of service in the Exxon Fleet, and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for many years. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, with interment in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grove Avenue Baptist Christian School.

FLEMING
Mrs. Ida Marie Fleming of 2980 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan County, the widow of Nathaniel Fleming Sr., departed this life Friday, August 10, 2001. She is survived by three sons, Nathaniel Fleming Jr. of Petersburg, Va., Alarie Fleming (Gwendolyn) Harrisburg, Pa., and George Fleming (Mary) Powhatan Co.; two daughters, Doris Boyd (Hundley) of Danville, Va., and Geraldine Fleming of Powhatan Co.; stepdaughter, Lucy Cox of Powhatan Co.; 14 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews; three cousins, Margaret Prude (Russell), Sonny Ellis and Charles Lightner (Sue); devoted friend, Essie Sturtivant; other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 14, 1 p.m., Hollywood Baptist Church, Powhatan Co., Va. Rev. C.L. Motley officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to services. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the residence, Tuesday, 12 noon. Contributions may be made to Powhatan Rescue Squad.

FRY
Emma Perkins Fry, 77, of Dundas, Va., and formerly of Colonial Heights, Va., died August 11, 2001. She was the widow of Harry H. Fry. She is survived by her son, Glenn Fry of Dundas; five sisters, Edna Lloyd and Mary Williams, both of Matoaca, Jo Frame of Midlothian, Maggie Pegram and Ruby Green, both of Dundas; two brothers, James B. Perkins and Buford Perkins, both of Dundas. She was sister to the late Melvin B. Perkins. Mrs. Fry retired from Johnson Cleaners in Colonial Heights. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 14, 2 p.m. in the Perseverance Christian Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, Va., and at all other times at 378 Bluebird Rd., Dundas, Va. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Perseverance Christian Church.

GIOIA
Robert P. Gioia, 88, of Richmond, formerly of New Jersey, died August 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia T. Gioia; two daughters, Sandra G. Treadway and her husband, John and Jeanette R. Gioia and her husband, H. Daniel Bonamico; three grandchildren, Robyn G. Treadway, Caroline G. and Alixandra L. Bonamico. Mr. Gioia was Chairman of the Board of Serra International, Inc., an international forwarding company that he joined in 1931 and expanded over 58 years. A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Library of Virginia Foundation or the American Heart Association.
