Douglas Wray Hester Jr., born July 9, 1971, departed this life January 7, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Hester; one son, Phillip Joshua Hester; three sisters, Gale Hester, Angela Broughman and Theresa Boggs; a brother-in-law, David Broughman; two nephews, J.D. Goddard Jr. and Jeremy Boggs; one niece, Casey Kennedy. The family will receive friends at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Ironbridge Rd. (Rt. 10), on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Chapel services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

HUTCHINSON
Frederick William Hutchinson passed away January 8, 2002 in Richmond, Va. following a brief illness. He was born in Enosburg, Vt. on September 3, 1910, the son of the late William S. Hutchinson and Harriet Forsythe Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Soule Hutchinson. He is survived by a daughter, Gail H. Beebe of Colchester, Vt.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John F. and Jean C. Hutchinson of Richmond; four grandchildren, Stephen Hutchinson of Richmond, Anne Yagerline of Fairfax, Adam and Justin Beebe of Chicago; four great-grandchildren, Mary Catherine, John and Stephen Hutchinson of Richmond and John Matthew Yagerline of Fairfax. Services will be private. The family suggests that gifts be made in Fred's memory to the Salvation Army, 2 West Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23241.

Mrs. Amy Johnson formerly of 1202 N. First St. departed this life January 7, 2002. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

KAY
Anne Wells Kay of Great Falls, Va. passed away Monday, January 7, 2002 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Milton Garber Kay and loving mother of Frederick Milton Kay and William Jackson Kay. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 9220 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, Va. 22066. Interment Monday, January 14, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Francis Episcopal Church, or Amadeus Concerts, P.O. KUYKENDALL
W. Michael "Mike" Kuykendall, 60, of Romney, W.Va., died January 8, 2002 at The Willows at Meadow Brook, Winchester, Va. Born January 11, 1941 in Romney to the later William and Nellie (Arnold) Kuykendall. Survived by three daughters, Kathy Kuykendall Pringle, White Plains, N.Y., Marsha Kuykendall Tomlin, Chester, Va., Sheila Elizabeth Kuykendall, Chesterfield, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Decker Elder, South Charleston, W.Va., Edith Crane, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Mary Kuykendall Weber, Schenectady, N.Y. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Dr. John S. Franklin officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Rd., Des Plaines, Ill. 60018. Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va.

LAHNEMAN
Catherine R. Lahneman, 77, of Chester, formerly of Lewes, Del., passes away Tuesday, January 8, 2002. She was the widow of William H. Lahneman. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy A. Morgan of Chester and Nancy E. Gooley of Sewell, N.J.; a son, William J. Lahneman of Dunkirk, Md.; brothers, Robert Robinson of Millsboro, Del. and Donald McGee of Orlando, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, January 11 at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Memorial contributions may be made to Lucy Corr Village Residence Counsel Fund, P.O. Drawer 170, 6800 Lucy Corr Court, Chesterfield, Va. 23832.

LIVINGSTON
Pauline D. Livingston, 58, widow of Kenneth W. Livingston, passed away January 8, 2002 of diabetic complications. She was the dearly beloved mother of devoted daughter, Kimberly Anne; devoted sons, Mark Kenneth, Eric Joseph and Jason Paul; daughters-in-law, Kathryn, Rachel and Kimberly Wynne; seven granddaughters, Victoria, Alexis, Hayley, Zoe, Katherine, Jordyn, Sarah; and one grandson, Mark Jr.; 18 nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and George Rainville of Springfield, Mass., Constance and Ron Dominguez of Tucson, Ariz.; and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Virginia Goddu Jr. of Rockville, Conn. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va.

Shirley Ann Taylor Motley, formerly of Richmond, Va., died Monday, December 24, 2001 in Wilmington, Del. She is survived by her husband, Herman Motley; several nieces, nephews and cousins, two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and a host of friends. James Edward "Jesse" Rhoades, 74, of New Kent, died January 6, 2002. He is survived by his children, Jean A. Durst and Mary J. Tabor; two brothers, Henry "Dusty" and Winter Rhoades; two sisters, Ruth Coffee and Eveline Packard. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church.

SCHERER
Edward Underwood Scherer Jr. M.D. died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at 6:30 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Larson Scherer; two children, his daughter, Susan Scherer Thomas and a son, Edward U. Scherer III and his wife, Amy Beauchamp Scherer; three grandchildren; Natalie Magen Thomas, Edward U. Scherer IV and Matthew Tyson Scherer; also a brother, Robert Christ Scherer of Jersey Shore, Pa. Dr. Scherer, a native of Pennsylvania, received his undergraduate degree from Haverford College, Haverford, Pa. and his medical degree from George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C. After completing his internship at the Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport Pa., he served two years in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon. He completed his residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the Mount Alto Veterans' Administration Hospital, Washington D.C. and Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. Before coming to Richmond, Dr. Scherer practiced internal medicine and cardiology at the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Hospital in Clifton Forge, Va. In Richmond, he was a staff member of Chippenham Hospital and Johnston-Willis Hospital as an emergency room physician and later practiced internal medicine and cardiology privately until he retired. He was a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia, American Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians. He was certified a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He was an avid golfer and had a lifetime interest in gardening, sailing, and fishing. A memorial service for the family and friends will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave., Richmond, on Friday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Outreach Program, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave., Richmond Va. 23226.

SHARPE
Virginia Cole Sharpe, 84, of Colonial Heights, died January 7, 2002 at her residence. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Hall Sharpe of Colonial Heights. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 10 in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The interment will follow in Blanford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, tonight, Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

SKELTON
Richard Earl Skelton of Highland Springs passed away suddenly January 7, 2002 at the age of 59. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Florence; his daughters, Debbie Mattox and her husband, Jerry, Sandy and Shannon Taylor, and Tammy Ramer and her husband, Mark; grandsons, Stephen and JJ; granddaughters, Chrissy, Gennie, Lacy and Brittany; two sisters and three brothers; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Skelton was a dedicated employee at Westvaco for 37 years. The family will receive friends from 12 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Washington Memorial Park. Those attending services please assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the Henrico Fire and Rescue Squad.
