FLORY
I. Lynnwood Flory Jr., 94, of Elkton, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. He was born in Elkton on March 27, 1907 and was the son of Isaac L. Flory Sr. and Sara Saum Flory. He attended Washington and Lee University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and past president of Pi Kappa Phi Alumni Association. He owned the Elkton Bottling Company and was past president of the Virginia State Bottlers' Association. He had served his community as a member of the Elkton Town Council, the Rockingham County School Board, past president of the Elkton/Shenandoah Rotary Club and the Elkton Lions Club and was a member of the Spotswood Country Club, the Harrisonburg Elks' Lodge and a lifelong member of the Elkton United Methodist Church. On October 3, 1931, he married Eleanor Ditman Flory, who died January 12, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Sara Flory Gilley of Forest, Frances Flory Scales of Richmond; two sons, Isaac L. (Lynn) Flory and H. Ditman Flory, both of Harrisonburg. The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday morning at the Elkton United Methodist Church with burial in Elk Run Cemetery, Elkton. Arrangements handled by Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home, Elkton, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 82, Elkton, Va. 22827.

GANEY
Frances T. (Fran) Ganey, 79, of Mechanicsville, died April 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Francis R. (Buck) Ganey; three children, Robert S. Ganey of Mechanicsville, Dr. Rodney F. Ganey and his wife, Carol of South Bend, Ind., Bruce P. Ganey and his wife, Mary Jane of Mechanicsville; nine grandchildren, John, Benjamin, Jessica, Danny, Alex and Zach Ganey, all of South Bend, Ind., Ashley, Chase and Zach Ganey, all of Mechanicsville. She was a member and past president of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Mechanicsville Post 9808, a Pine Camp Bridge Club Member as well as other local bridge and canasta clubs. She loved to frequently travel with her family and friends to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. She was very fond of cats. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Christian Wake service being held at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Church of the Redeemer. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for "Peggy's Little Dreamers", Mechanicsville Relay for Life Team, c/o Tim Cates, 9296 Falcon Dr., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.

GRINNAN
Daniel Grinnan IV, age 83, of Richmond, Va., departed this life April 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Hewett Grinnan; one son, Daniel Grinnan Jr. and his wife, Carolyn (Kay) Grinnan of Richmond; a daughter, Elizabeth Grinnan Purcell and her husband, Arthur E. Purcell of Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Madeline Kate Grinnan of California, Dr. Daniel Charles Grinnan and his wife, Samara Haselden Grinnan of North Carolina, Jessica Berry Purcell, Carolyn Purcell, and Charlotte Elizabeth Rebecca Purcell of Massachusetts; a brother, Dr. William C. Grinnan of Richmond; and a sister, Georgia Grinnan Jeffries of Alexandria, Va. He was preceded in death by a brother, St. George Tucker Grinnan and a sister, Jane Bell Grinnan Gladding. Mr. Grinnan graduated from St. Christopher's School where he was all-city in football and received the school's award for best athlete. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1939, where he played golf for four years and also played football. He was captain of the golf team. He graduated from T.C. Williams School of Law in 1950 and was a member of the McNeill Law Society. Following law school, he served as Assistant City Attorney for eight years and then went into private practice which included serving as a Special Justice for the City of Richmond. Upon leaving private practice, Mr. Grinnan worked as Assistant Counsel for Home Beneficial Insurance Company until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Grinnan served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot in World War II, flying bombers in the China - Burma - India Theatre. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medals with two Clusters. After World War II he remained in the Army Air Reserve for 23 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Grinnan was an avid sportsman and golfer and recently shot his age in golf. He was a former member of Hermitage Country Club. Memorial services will be held at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church on Thursday, April 5, at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the interment. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cross-Over Health Center, 6804 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23226. Arrangements by K.L. Iretha Page Holt departed this life March 29, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Holt Jr.; and her daughter, Lorraine Page. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Spencer, Rita DuVall; one son, Jake Holt III; 10 grandchildren, Barbara, Donald and Michael Page, Iretha Lawrence, Maude Gardner, Angela Harris, Tara and John DuVall, Bridget Taylor and Crystal Holt; 11 great-grandchildren, Anton, Sharonda, Shannon, Monique, Darrell, Anthony, Miles, McKensie, Donald Jr., Nicole and Ciana; one great-great-grandchild, Breanna; son-in-law, Claude DuVall; daughter-in-law, Gloria Holt; sister-in-law, Blanche Page; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. Rev. Bruce Jones officiating. Burial Glendale National Cemetery.

Ella W. Howerton, age 97, wife of Daniel M. Howerton, died April 3, 2001. Arrangements by Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville, Va.

JOHNSON
Elizabeth Pollard Cox Johnson, 95, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Louisville, Ky. and King and Queen Co., Va., widow of Dr. R. Inman Johnson, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001. She is survived by a brother, Garland Pollard Cox; and three nieces, Bentley C. Grigg, Jeanne C. Cusick and Marguerite C. Ballard, all of Charlottesville, Va. Born in Richmond on August 29, 1905, her family moved to Louisville, Ky. when she was three years old. Her father, Millard F. Cox designed the steam engine for the L&N Railroad. Her mother, Bessie Pollard Cox, was for many years a trustee of the Women's Missionary Union Training School. Her uncle, John Garland Pollard, was Governor of Virginia. Her husband, Robert Inman Johnson, taught speech and music for 45 years at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mrs. Johnson received her education in the Louisville Public Schools, Sweet Briar College and the College of William and Mary. She served two terms as president of the Louisville Junior League, served many years on the board of the Kentucky Crippled Children's Society and served one term on the board of the National Crippled Children's Society. For ten years she was treasurer of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville. Mrs. Johnson was for many years Kentucky Regent for Kenmore in Fredericksburg, Va., where she presented a small oil portrait of the original owner, Fielding Lewis. She served one term as president of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, which owned two historic homes in Frankfurt, Ky. Her husband retired in 1965 and they moved to a five acre lot on the Mattaponi River at King and Queen Courthouse, Va., where she designed and supervised the building of a retirement home. She was for 18 years editor of the Bulletin of the King and Queen County Historical Society. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was also a member of the Jamestown Society and served one term on its board of directors. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, in Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Sweet Briar College, Box E, Sweet Briar, Va. 24595. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

KANTZLER
Stella P. Kantzler, age 88, of Amelia, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill" Kantzler; and her son, John Wesley Kantzler. She is survived by her son, William Parker Kantzler and daughter-in-law, Bertha of Amelia; grandchildren, William P. Kantzler Jr. of Powhatan, Christopher M. Kantzler of Nashville, Tenn., and Paula K. Sexton of Midlothian; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Maude VandeRiet of Virginia Beach and Aileen Anderson of Amelia. Services will be Thursday, April 5, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court Street, Amelia. MARLAR
Mary Alice Marlar, age 86, of Irvington, Va., died Monday, April 2, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Irvin F. Marlar; three daughters, Mary Ann Marlar-Bond, Oakland, Calif., Kathleen Marlar Stell, Fairfax, Va., Susan Carol Gibadlo, Middleton, N.J.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of the Resurrection will be said 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock, Va. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lancaster-Northumberland Interfaith Services Council, P.O. Box 868, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482.

MARTIN
Ruby Young Martin, 75, Richmond, Va., who died April 1, 2001, is survived by sons, John H. Martin Jr., William T. Martin, Charles E. Martin; grandchildren, John III, Kristin, Sara, Grant, Justin, Christopher; her sister, Margaret Gately; and her former husband, Rufus Ellington. Ruby worked as a nurse at McGuire Veteran's Hospital 35 years. She was a charter member of New Vision Baptist Church, to which the family requests memorials to be made. Graveside services at Dale Memorial Park, 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Mills. Due to the unexpected death of Mrs. Mary Lou Mills, the funeral service and visitation for Mr. Thomas L. Mills will be rescheduled. Their visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Their funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday. Interment Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Martha Janie Morris, 89, of Chilesburg, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce A. Edenton of Chilesburg and Jean Austin of Texas; a son, Robert S. Morris of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Odie Stanley of Glen Allen and Verna Tyree of Richmond; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday, April 6, 2001 at 12 noon in County Line Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation at the church two hours prior to the service.

NEUMAN

NORMENT
Dorothy Turlington Norment, 79, of Richmond, widow of Joseph E. Norment Jr., died April 2, 2001. She is survived by her son, Joseph E. Norment III of Richmond. Mrs. Norment, a native of Goldsboro, N.C., was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught last at Mary Munford School. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 4, at 10 a.m. in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 W. Huguenot Rd., Richmond, 23235, or Union-PSCE, 3401 Brook Rd., Richmond, 23227.
