CAMPBELL
William R. Campbell Jr. of Richmond departed this life Wednesday, May 2, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

CASTLEMAN
Toiya Dee Castleman, age 34, of Richmond, formerly of Denver, Colo., died April 25, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Tademy Jr. of Richmond; parents, Frank and Jacqueline Castleman of Denver; one brother, Rodney Castleman of Woodbridge, Va.; two sisters, Cherilynn Castleman and Darnell Slaughter, both of Denver; and six nieces. Toiya was a member of the law firm McCandlish Kaine in Richmond. She received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and was a member of the Howard Law Journal. She also studied international law at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. Ms. Castleman was licensed to practice law in Virginia and New York, and was a member of the Virginia Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Richmond Bar Association, and the Virginia Women Attorneys Association. Among her many community involvements, Ms. Castleman worked to raise awareness of clinical depression and acted as an advocate for African-American children in foster care awaiting for adoptive homes. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2001, at 6 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 1000 Blanton Avenue. The service will be followed by a reception for anyone who would like to share in a celebration of Toiya's friendship. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia One Church One Child, P.O. Box 25443, Richmond, Va. 23220.

CHALKLEY
Dr. Thomas S. Chalkley, 87, of Richmond, Va., passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Westminster-Canterbury. He was the widower of Dr. Matilda D. Chalkley. He is survived by his children, Betty and Bob Sullivan, Tom and Ginger Chalkley Jr. and Jane C. Laning; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his nephew and nieces, Jay and Sarah Fisher, Jo and Billy Atkinson and Judy and Don Smith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lee Vertner. He received his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Kentucky and his medical degree from the University of Louisville. Dr. Chalkley was a member of Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity and the Phi Chi honorary medical society. He was a member of the American Board of Pediatrics and a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was a contract bridge Life Master and a member of the Country Club of Virginia. At MCV-VCU, Dr. Chalkley was the first resident in pediatrics. He was the Chief of the Outpatient Department of Pediatrics 1945 to 1948, an Associate in Pediatrics, 1948 to 1954 and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics from 1955 until retirement. Dr. Chalkley was the past president of the Richmond Pediatric Society, past president of the Virginia Pediatric Society, past chairman of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and past chairman of the Handicapped Child Committee of the Medical Society of Virginia. He was also a member of the executive board and Chief of Staff at Retreat for the Sick Hospital. Dr. Chalkley was also past vice-president of the Attending Staff of Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was also on staff at Stuart Circle Hospital, Johnston-Willis Hospital, Henrico Doctors' Hospital, and Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital. The family will be receiving visitors on Tuesday, May 1 at Reid Funeral Home in Ashland from 7 to 9 p.m. On Wednesday, May 2 at 11 a.m., a funeral service will be held at Reid Funeral Home. Interment Woodland Cemetery. On Thursday, May 3 at 3 p.m., a memorial service will be held at Westminster-Canterbury. Friends are welcome at all services.

CHALMERS
Dwayne T. Chalmers of 5132 Eanes Lane, died May 1, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Joyce M. Chalmers; daughter, Nickeea Chalmers; son, Jamien Chalmers, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; mother, Louise L. Chaney; father, Cornelius T. Chalmers; sister, Benita R. Chalmers; niece, Katiya D. Perry; stepson, Allen R. Pritchett (Regina); two stepgrandchildren, all of Richmond; a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. After 12 noon Friday, remains will rest in Richmond Christian Center, 214 Cowardin Ave., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

CONKLE
Virginia D. Conkle, 72, of Richmond, formerly of White Stone, widow of John R. Conkle, died May 2, 2001. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Janice C. and James E. Nelsen of Mechanicsville and Donna C. and Robert N. Akers of Spotsylvania; two granddaughters, Tammy Nelsen and Lisa N. Herrold; one sister, Alice Dennis of Richmond; and two brothers, William Davis of Richmond and George Ashburn of White Stone. She was predeceased by one son, Raymond D. Conkle. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, where funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4 at 2 p.m. with interment in the White Marsh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Virginia, 7700 E. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23294.

DAILEY
Anna Wood Dailey, 91, of Richmond, formerly of Hopewell, died May 1, 2001. She was born in Disputanta and had been a resident of Hopewell most of her life. Mrs. Dailey was a retired school teacher with the Hopewell Public Schools, a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Retired Teachers Association. She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Dailey; and parents, Mr. Nathaniel B. and Neva Chappell Inge. Surviving are two sons, James A. Dailey Jr. of Hopewell and Nathaniel B. Dailey of Matoaca; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, May 3, 2001 in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Edward Bushong officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, 23860. Mrs. Dailey's family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son of Hopewell.

DURANT
Walter L. Durant of 5227 Orcutt Lane departed this life May 2, 2001. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St. Funeral notice later. The family may be contacted at 303-7110.

EVANS
Albert Harold Evans, 71, died May 1, 2001. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Shirley. He was the beloved father of three daughters, Nancy, Sandy and Linda; and also leaves six grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Hanna, Jeremy, Elliott and Sarah. He lived life to the fullest, loved and was loved by everyone who knew him. Chapel services at Sol Levinson Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Rd., Pikesville, Md., at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3. Chapel services and burial in Richmond, Va.; chapel services at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue.

GAMBLE
Steven Lee Gamble of Ashland died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. Survived by his wife, Patricia Joan Gamble; four children, Melanie Joan White, Mark Lee Gamble, Matthew Dale Gamble and Michelle Renee Gamble; his parents, Dale and Gladys Gamble of Indiana; three sisters, Peggy Mallane, Pattie Lefkowicz and Gwen Carpenter; and one brother, Stan Gamble; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gamble was a pressman for 20 years at Quebecor World Printing. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road. Visitation 12 to 2 p.m. prior to service. Interment private.

Harry Wilson Glidewell Jr., age 36, of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Bronx, N.Y., died May 1, 2001. Beloved husband of Anita Sahni Glidewell; and cherished son of Frances Rivera Glidewell. His remains will rest at Manchester Baptist Church, 9515 Winterpock Rd. on Friday, May 4, 2001, where a Christian Wake Service will be held 6 p.m. Interment Fairfax Memorial Park. Dehra Vaughan Godsey, wife of Joseph Cornelius Godsey for sixty-two years, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001. Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Mary Douglas Godsey, Joseph Cornelius Godsey Jr., his wife, Martha Young Godsey, Christie Godsey Owens, her husband, Ronald Keith Owens, and Sally Adell Godsey. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joseph Cornelius Godsey III, John Chapman Godsey, his wife, Margaret Murrey Godsey, Jennifer Owens Blair, her husband, Lee Marshall Blair; and a special friend, John S. Thomasson. A private service has been held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, VCU's Massey Cancer Center or, in kind, to the Virginia Blood Service.

GRAHAM
Mrs. Dessie J. Graham of Glen Allen, Va., formerly of Plainfield, N.J., died April 30, 2001. Surviving are her son, Emmons B. Lidell Jr. and his wife, Alice; one brother, Asa Jones of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Olivin Cherry of Richmond; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., Monsignor Walter Barrett officiating. The remains will be forwarded to Chadbourn, N.C. for burial.

Henderson; three grandchildren, Latoya Campbell, Devonte and Andre Henderson; one brother, Glenn Campbell; two foster brothers, Bruce Davis and Paul Davis; three aunts, two great-uncles, several nieces, nephews and cousins; one son-in-law, James Henderson; one sister-in-law, Samalyna Campbell; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Rev. Mack W. Austin officiating. Interment, Riverview Cemetery. LAROCHE
Mrs. Alice Frances Peterson LaRoche, age 92 of Richmond, Va., departed this life on April 30, 2001. She was the widow of Joseph Theodore LaRoche. Surviving are her sister, Margaret Peterson of New York City; cousins, Aubrey and Georgie Cousins of Richmond and Sara King Moore of Glen Allen, Va.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Thelma Carter of Richmond. Mrs. LaRoche was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and worked as a beautician and as a secretary at the Urban League until she retired. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Graveside services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at Roselawn Memory Gardens, Dr. Wallace C. Cook officiating.

MARSCHAK
D. Romayne Marschak, age 80, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard L. Marschak; three children, Beth Marschak, Cheryl Marschak and husband, Dale Gilmer, and Darlene A. Marschak and husband, Bill Mowrey, all of Richmond; one brother, Dudley "Dutch" Ayle and wife, Judy of DuBois, Pa.; also two grandchildren, Robin S. Marschak and Charlie T. Gilmer. Mrs. Marschak was born in Altoona, Pa., and had lived in Richmond since 1954. She was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and its Joy Club, WMU, and a nursery worker. She was a co-owner of Marschak Realty, charter member and advocate of the Women's Veterans War Memorial. She served as a first lieutenant nurse during WWII. She was also a licensed pilot, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, and where a memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday. Contributions may be made to Derbyshire Baptist Church Building Fund, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229; or Women in military Service for Americas Memorial, 5510 Columbia Pike, Suite 302, Arlington, Va. 22204.
