Mrs. Barbara D. Ellis, 52, of Cullman, Ala., died August 19, 2001. She was born October 8, 1948 in Richmond. She is survived by her husband, John Ellis; and her parents, James C. and Helen Davenport of Cullman; her son, John William "Bill" (Angela) Ellis IV of Double Springs; her daughter, Julie (Michael) Ray of Cullman; her sister, Carol Collier of Hanceville; and two grandchildren, Jordan Ray of Cullman and Will Ellis of Double Springs. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, Cullman, Ala. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at 3 p.m., at Seventh Street Baptist Church, Cullman, Ala., Rev. George Whitten and Pastor Steve Britt officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cullman County Cancer Society.

FERGUSON
Lorenzo "Lo" Ferguson of Richmond entered eternal rest August 14, 2001. Cherishing his memory are his parents, Erma Ferguson and Lorenzo Bullock; one brother, Antonio Jones; one sister, Crystal Ferguson; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Ferguson Sr.; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; one devoted, Tuesdae Young. A Eulogistic Service will be conducted Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the Greater Mt. GUILLOT
Mary Elizabeth White Gulliot, 89, passed to eternity Friday, August 17, 2001, at a Charlottesville nursing home. She had resided for six years at Heritage Oaks, Richmond. She was born May 13, 1912, near Cifax, Bedford County, Va., daughter of the late Waddell A. White and Anna Dameron White. Her husband, Robert E. Guillot Sr. and all her siblings, except foster brother, Frank White, Nicholls, Ga., preceded her in death. She is survived by sons, Thomas A. Guillot of Glen Allen and Jon W. Guillot of Charlottesville; daughters-in-law, June Sumrell Guillot and Marva Barnett; granddaughter, Laura Beth Guillot, a student at Radford University; other family and friends made wherever she went. Mary Guillot will be remembered for her 40+ years of teaching first graders and for her love of children. Her life was a long illustration of the Golden Rule. Oakey's North Chapel, Roanoke, will arrange a graveside service to celebrate her life Friday, August 24, 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Va. The Rev. Alton Washington will officiate. HEINRICH
Mary Douglas Poole Hankins Heinrich, 87, died Sunday, August 19, 2001. A lifelong resident of Richmond, she was born August 10, 1914. She attended St. Catherine's School and was a graduate of Collegiate School and St. Mary's College, Raleigh, N.C. Mrs. Heinrich was married to Thomas Oswald "T.O." Heinrich and upon his death in 1972 she became President of Taylor and Heinrich First Mortgage, Inc. and Laurel Links, Inc. Laurel was Richmond's only public golf course for many years. She sold both businesses in 1980. She later was married to Arthur W. Harrison for a year before his death in 1994. During World War II, she served in the Red Cross Motor Corps as an ambulance driver. Active in many Richmond organizations, Mrs. Heinrich was a member and past president of The Woman's Club and a past president of the Collegiate School Alumnae Association. She served on the Boards of Directors of The National Society of the Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Traveler's Aid Society, the Cary Montague Home and the Retreat Hospital Corporation Board. At one time Mrs. Heinrich was an active member of the Richmond Historical Society and the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. She was a member of The Country Club of Virginia and charter member of the 2300 Club. Mrs. Heinrich continued her family's interest in Bacon's Castle, her father's boyhood home and Mr. Heinrich's interest in the Richmond Council of the Boy Scouts. At Grace & Holy Trinity Church, where she was a life long member, Mrs. Heinrich had served on the Vestry and had been Chairman of the House Committee. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Douglas Heinrich Erikson of Orlando, Fla. and Elizabeth Heinrich Ewers of Richmond; sons-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Richard Erikson of Orlando and Lathan M. Ewers Jr. of Richmond; three grandchildren, Mary Douglas Erikson of Richmond, Anders Henrik Erikson of Orlando and Thomas Heinrich Ewers of Richmond; and her brother, Richard Poole Hankins of Richmond. Mrs. Heinrich was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Hankins Carrington. A funeral service will be held at Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 8 N. Laurel St., on Wednesday, August 22 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery at 3 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace & Holy Trinity Church, 8 N. HERRING
Fred Herring of Richmond departed this life Monday, August 20, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

HOAR
Maria Bemiss Hoar, widow of Henry Charles Hoar, died on August 19, 2001 at Westminster-Canterbury, which with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, was one of the many communities of people uplifted and made beautiful by her radiant hope, faith and love. She was born in Richmond on September 26, 1907, the youngest child of Cyane Dandridge Williams and Eli Lockert Bemiss. Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death were Samuel, John and Lockert Bemiss, Charlotte Bemiss Daniel, Frances Bemiss Mason, Catharine Bemiss McGuire and Cyane Bemiss Crump. Mrs. Hoar attended the Stratford and Collegiate Schools and graduated from Sweetbriar College. She is survived by her three children, Thomas Charles Dandridge of Grand Rapids, Mich., Cyane Bemiss Lowden of Richmond and Catharine B. Penson of Lake Wylie, S.C.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Despite a series of physical hardships, Mrs. Hoar was indomitable in her generous enrichment of the spirits of others, whose need she always saw as being greater than her own. In her final days, her spirit was as ethereal as ever and her only sorrow was being unable to visit sad and lonely friends. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 25, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and at 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, at Westminster-Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 901 E. Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23219, to the Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227, or to Maymont Foundation, 1700 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

HUGHES
Mrs. Maggie B. Hughes departed this life August 17, 2001. She is survived by her sons, James (Mary) Rutledge, Linwood (Lucy) Hughes Jr., Clifford (Claudette) Hughes, and Rev. Andrew (Iris) Hughes; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Calvin Bryant of Washington, D.C.; sister, Vianna Judgd of S.C.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where her family will receive guests 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Andrew J. Hughes Sr., officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

IRBY
James Poindexter Irby, 41, died August 19, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Covington Irby and his father, Dr. E. Claiborne Irby Sr.; his brother, Claiborne Irby Jr.; his two sisters, Beth Beale and Emily Grimes; his eight nieces and nephews, Claiborne Irby, Sarah Irby, William Irby, Christopher Irby, Thornton Beale, Marshall Beale, Duncan Grimes, and Will Grimes. Mr. Irby was a graduate of St. Christopher's School, attended Virginia military Institute, received an undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, and an MBA at the University of Richmond. He owned and managed a real estate development company. Mr. Irby served in the past as the president and board member of the V.M.I. Alumni Club of Richmond and on several advisory committees, including New Cadet Recruiting and Cadet Affairs of the Alumni Association. He was on the St. Christopher's Alumni Board and served as Class Agent. Mr. Irby was a member of the Richmond Ballet Corps, Stop Child Abuse Now, and Friends of Art of the Virginia Museum. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Thursday, August 23, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James P. Irby Memorial Scholarship, c/o V.M.I. Foundation, P.O. Box 932, Lexington, Va. 24450 or the James P. Irby Memorial Fund at St. Christopher's School Foundation, 711 St. Christopher's Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226.

JACKSON
Mr. Roy William Jackson Sr., age 74, of Powhatan, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 18, 2001 in Richmond, Va. He is survived by a son, Roy W. Jackson Jr.; two daughters, Florence Carrington and Barbara Jackson; seven grandchildren, seven brothers, eight sisters, four aunts, one son-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland, Va. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan. Rev. James Robinson, Pastor, Rev. Revell Hicks officiating with interment in the church cemetery.

MAJESKI
Alice Peyton Majeski, age 86, died in Houston, Texas on Sunday, August 19, 2001. Alice moved to Houston after retiring. She had previously lived in Richmond, Va. and Topeka, Kan. She was very active with the Joy Circle at Bellaire Presbyterian Church. She was a past member of the Toastmistress International, the Kent Club and the American Association of University Women. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kathleen Padgett and husband, Allen of New Mexico; sister, Patricia Wood of Wisconsin; nieces, Nancy Bennett, Maria Vaughan and Pamela Young; nephew, Edwin Peyton; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2001, in the Drawing Room of the Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors, 3320 Kirby Drive. A funeral service will be held in Houston at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, in the chapel of Settegast-Kopf, with Rev. Lacy S. Sellars officiating. Interment will follow in Houston in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. For those desiring, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

MASON
Departed this life August 13, 2001, Henry A. Mason Jr. of 3313 Dill Ave. He is survived by one daughter, Alexandria Williams; two sisters, Delores Williams and Barbara Hopkins; four aunts, three uncles, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Graveside services 12 noon Wednesday, Richmond National Cemetery, Rev. John Davis officiating. Mrs. Hazelle Harris Means of Richmond departed this life Thursday, August 16, 2001. She is survived by her sister, Marye V. Branch; goddaughter, Vanessa Jumper; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, several cousins, among them devoted, Jacquelyn Rowlette and Jeanne Harris; two brothers-in-law; James Branch and Lester Holley; sister-in-law, Helen Harris; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., Joy Christian Tabernacle Church, 3308 Mark Road. Rev. Clarence Turner, officiating. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbia, S.C. Remains will rest in the church one hour prior to funeral services. Relatives and friends attending services assemble at the church Wednesday, 12:30 p.m.

MURPHEY
Lina May "Lindy" Lickey Cooper Murphey, age 75. Born April 4, 1926 in Fruitland, Idaho. Precious loving wife and mother, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2001. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Sherwood Murphey; children, Lynn (Daniel W.) Evans, Sherman (James V) McDaniel, Cynthia (Jeffrey A.) Walton, Michael (Vanessa) Cooper, Patrick (Rita) Cooper, Margaret (James C.) Nygaard; stepchildren, Patricia (Jim) Simmons, Leon (Ann) Murphey, Allen (Judy) Murphey; and foster daughter, Kimberly Jeter. Also survived by two brothers: Arlington Lickey of Victoria, Va. and William H. Lickey of Florida; and sister, Esther (I.H. Jr.) Pulley of Maynard, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by beloved husband, Samuel Stearns Cooper and beloved grandson, James Carter Nygaard. Mrs. Murphey was retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. She was a long-time resident of Highland Springs and a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. She formerly resided in Victoria, Va. Funeral services Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave. Burial 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Amelia County. Visiting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 250, Highland Springs, Va. 23075.

PEEBLES
James Linwood Peebles departed life Friday August 17, 2001. Survivors include his mother, Mary Wright; sister, Mildred Allen and Shirley Manning; aunts, Fannie Cooke and Gladys Turner; uncle, James Hill; and other family. Memorial services will be held at Chiles Funeral Home, Wednesday 2 p.m.

PHELPS
Lorna Margaret Phelps, 46, died peacefully Sunday, August 19, 2001 of a sudden illness at MCV Hospital. She was a genetic counselor and lecturer at Virginia Commonwealth University for nine years. Lorna is survived by her mother, Margaret Orr and father, John Phelps, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; her sisters, Ellen Rowland of Virginia and Sandra Fischbein of California. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 26424, Richmond, Va. 23260.
