BAKER
Bruce J. Baker, 59, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Candy Baker; his dad, Donald C. Baker; his son, T. James "T.J." Baker and his wife, Kitty; two grandsons, Brian and Randall Bonds; his sisters, Carol O'Brien and her husband, Dennis, Cathy Wade and her husband, Jimmy, Mary Randall and her husband, Roy; his brothers, Jerry Baker and his wife, Marlene, Kenny Baker and his wife, Mary, Jimmy Baker and his wife, JoAnna; an aunt, seven nephews and eight nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Katherine Baker; and a sister, Anne O'Hara. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. Mass of the Resurrection, 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Redeemer. Entombment Westhampton Mausoleum, following which, family and friends are invited back to Church of the Redeemer for a reception. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.

BEASER
Robert K. "Bob" Beaser, 89, of Glen Allen, died May 16, 2001. He is survived by two cousins, Adelaide C. Cain and Kenneth Beaser. He was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Beaser. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Way Services, P.O. Box 12209, Richmond, Va. 23241-0209.

BILLUPS
William Lawrence Billups Sr., 61, of Richmond, formerly of Pax, W.Va., and devoted husband of Margaret Darnall Billups, passed away May 16, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Willie Billups; one brother, Richard Billups. He is survived by two children, Bill Billups, Laura Gindek and her husband, Dave; one brother, James E. Billups and his wife, Helen; three grandchildren, David, Megan and Kaitlin Gindek. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will take place 1:30 p.m. Monday at Quantico National Cemetery.

BROWN
Departed this life May 14, 2001, Mr. John Edward Brown. He was born in Powhatan, Va., November 1, 1934, and was a son of the late Mary B. Hall. He was a truck driver for V.F. Lanasa for many years and retired from Great Coastal Express Trucking Co. in 1989. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 23 years, Gloria L. Brown; three sons, Rodney and Gregory Brown, and Miguel Rustin; two daughters, Juanita Prayther and Rosemary Clinton; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, among them one devoted, Cassandra Adams; a host of nephews and cousins, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, four sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. Rev. Ronald Taylor officiating. Burial Forest Lawn Cemetery. BURRUSS
John Ellison Burruss, 77, of Mineral, Va., entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond, Va. He was the son of the late Ellison and Maggie Brice Burruss, born on November 14, 1923, in Cuckoo, Va. He graduated from Louisa Training High School, retired from the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mineral, Va. Fond memories of him will be cherished by one brother, Charles W. Burruss and his wife, Thelma of Richmond, Va.; a niece, Muriel Burruss Gumbs of Arlington, Va.; and many other loving family members and friends. His remains will lie in state at Ebenezer Baptist Church one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be held 12 noon on Saturday, May 19, 2001, with Rev. Roger M. Jones officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Thomasson's Funeral Service Inc., in Louisa, is in charge of arrangements.

BUTLER
Janeth F. Butler of Richmond passed away on May 16, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Dana L. Butler and Lindsay B. Hetrick; two grandchildren, Kellan B. and Whitney T. Hetrick; one cousin, Norma B. Jett; as well as other relatives and friends. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mausoleum Chapel of Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

BYRD
Homegoing services for Mrs. Ollie B. Byrd, who departed this life May 17, 2001, will be Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 1 p.m. from the Union Hope Baptist Church, Center Cross, Va., with the Reverends Alvin Hargrove and T. Wright Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be today, 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 12 noon. She is survived by two sons, Floyd E. Byrd Jr. of Richmond and Gregory W. (Kathy) Byrd of Downing Town, Pa.; two daughters, Bonita (James) Campbell of Richmond and Janice (Henry) Wimbush of Fayetteville, Ga.; one sister, Margaret B. Poles of King William, Va.; one brother, Thomas Baughan of Tappahannock, Va. Professional services entrusted to White-Tidewater Funeral Home, Jamaica, Va.

CARROLL
Nellie S. Carroll, age 89, widow of Robert C. Carroll Sr., of Richmond, formerly of Sandston, Va., died Thursday, May 17, 2001. She was preceded in death by her son, Howard E. Carroll. She is survived by her son, Robert C. Carroll and his wife, Virginia; his daughter-in-law, Diane T. Carroll, all of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren, Kristine and her husband, Jonathan Previs, Matthew, Jennifer, Stephanie, Zachary and Robert Carroll. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Landmark Baptist Church. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Landmark Baptist Church Building Fund, 4000 Creighton Rd., Richmond, Va. 23223.

CRAWLEY
Johnny R. Crawley of 13010 Taylor Rd., Chesterfield Co., departed this life , May 11, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Tonya Moseley; six sisters, Dorothy, Lillie Mae, Josephine, Mazeline, Lorren and Geraldine; two brothers, Melvin and James Crawley; one granddaughter, Katia McKenny; one aunt, Lillie Woolridge; one uncle, Herbert Crawley; a host of nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2 p.m. at Chesterfield Baptist Church, 16520 Hull St. Rd., Chesterfield County, Va. Rev. David L. Engleman, pastor, officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends attending funeral services assemble at the church Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

CROMWELL
James Cormwell of Goochland, Va., formerly of Louisa County, departed this life Thursday, May 17, 2001. Remains rest at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland. Funeral notice later.

DIXON
Margaret Holland Dixon, age 77, a long time Richmond resident, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Floyd C. Dixon Jr.; a daughter, Barbara L. Dixon and her husband, Michael R. Danis of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Polly Morris; also several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Mrs. Dixon was a devout member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church and was honored with life membership in Presbyterian Women of the Church. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1770 Parham Road, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 in Westhampton Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave. at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

EASLEY
Elizabeth Barbara Easley, 69, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Herbert H. Easley; son, Ralph H. Redford of Henrico County; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Balma of Virginia Beach. Mrs. Easley was a member and Sunday school teacher at New Covenant Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Senior Center of Richmond. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. A service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Covenant Baptist Church with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the church building fund.

EUBANK
Rodman W. "Rod" Eubank Jr., 48, of Midlothian, an employee of Owens Corning, went to be with the Lord May 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joyce S. Eubank; three sons, Jonathan of Hendersonville, Tenn., Adam of Richmond and Jordan of Midlothian; his mother, Dorothy H. Eubank of Richmond; sister, Dianne and her husband, Gary Jakubowicz of Montpelier. Mr. Eubank was a member and worship leader of Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at their residence. A memorial service will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in the auditorium at Gordon Elementary School, 11701 Gordon School Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the building fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

GERTSCH
Milton E. Gertsch, son of Gilbert and Susan Gertsch, was born in Platte Center, Neb., on December 7, 1922. He passed away on April 22, 2001, in Richmond, Va., where he had lived for approximately the past 20 years. Milton received his Ph.D. in plant pathology from Louisiana State University. He had a long international career in agriculture, including 20 years in the Caribbean, South and Central America, and 10 years in south and southeast Asia. Some of the countries in which Milton spent considerable time include: Cuba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia. Milton was a farm boy at heart. He loved gardening, canning, fixing things and inventing. Milton is survived by five daughters and seven grandchildren. Milton was buried in Polk, Neb., with his parents. A memorial service and reception will be held on June 16 at 2 p.m. at the Richmond Friends Meeting House (Quakers), 4500 Kensington Ave, 358-6185.

GREENE
James E. Greene Jr. of 5515 Wainwright Dr. departed this life Tuesday, May 15, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Jamia and Arnae; parents, Carolyn and Wayne Saunders; grandmother, Mrs. Emma Greene; stepbrother, Wayne Barnes; several aunts and uncles, a host of cousins, among them, devoted Darnelle Coleman; other relatives and friends, among them, devoted friends, Nikki Hoskie and Dionell Walker. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral servicesll be held Saturday, May 19, 12 p.m. Rev. Herbert R. Plummer officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending services assemble at the funeral home Saturday, 11:30 a.m.

HAAS
Master Sgt. Glenn Haas (retired), age 86, departed suddenly on May 15, 2001. He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Ursula; one daughter and her husband, Debra and Charles Byrd; one son, Michael Haas; five grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Luke and John Haas, and Johann Byrd; and one great-grandson, Memphis Seay. Mr. Haas served in the Armed Forces for 28 years and received the Bronze Star medal. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.

HAAS
Marie Haas of Sandston passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001. She was the widow of Lawrence E. Haas and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bernard Lambert of Sandston; three stepdaughters, Carol Satterwhite, Mary Lee Thompson and Helen Nichols of Powhatan. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery.

HARPER
Dorothy Hawkins Harper, 95, of Richmond, widow of John C. Harper, and formerly of Enfield, N.C., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001. She is survived by her two daughters, Dot Harper Gragnani and her husband, Frank, Patricia A. Schulte and her husband, Ray; one sister, Carol Hawkins McCary; two granddaughters, Laurie Gragnani Porter, Suzanne Schulte O'Malley and her husband, Matt; one great-grandson, Connor Matthew O'Malley; one devoted nephew, Bob Harper; and many other nieces and nephews. Graveside service 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, in charge of arrangements.
