HARRISON
Sallie Labouisse Harrison of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Richmond, Va., died May 6, 2001, at home. She was the wife of the late Horace Hawes Harrison of Richmond, Va. Mrs. Harrison was born in Charlotte, N.C., on January 25, 1928, to the late Sally Cameron and John Witherspoon Labouisse. She graduated from St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Md., and attended Parson's School of Design in New York City. She was a past board member of the Valentine Museum and a past chairman of Historic Garden Week in Virginia. Her survivors include two daughters, Ms. Sally Cameron Harrison of Richmond and Anne Harrison Murchison and husband, Alexander S. Murchison of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, Edward Sprunt Murchison and Anne Sterling Murchison of Wilmington, and Thomas Harrison Lewis of Richmond. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Thomas H. Wright Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. Nathaniel S. Howe of Greenwich, Conn. Mrs. Harrison was buried in a private service at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Hillsborough, N.C., on May 10, 2001. Memorial contributions may be made to the Linville Foundation, Linville, N.C. 28646; or to the Valentine Museum, 1015 East Clay St., Richmond, Va. 23219.

HAYES
Martha Olivett Powell Hayes of Norfolk and formerly of Suffolk, born October 6, 1919 at Benn's Church, Va., passed on to her heavenly home on May 17, 2001. She was the oldest of nine children born to Francis Lorenzo Powell and Nora Myrick Powell. She graduated from Smithfield High School and retired from Heatflame Gas Co. in Suffolk. She is survived by her only child, Martha Emily Hayes Hill of Norfolk; her sisters, Emily P. Jones and husband, Donald of Hampton, Dorothy P. Necessary of Virginia Beach; her brothers, Jack Powell and wife, Raye of Richmond, Julius Powell and wife, Nellie of Benn's Church; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and close friends. A lifelong Methodist, she attended Benn's Methodist Church and then transferred to Main Street Methodist, where she helped with the nursery for almost 40 years. Her love of children, patience, sense of humor and sweetness held fast to the end. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, 23507. Memorial services will be held at Holloman- Brown Chapel on Tidewater Dr., Sunday, 3 p.m., May 20, 2001, with Mr. Jack G. Thomas officiating.

JONES
Barbara "Jeannie" Jones, age 52, of Gainesville, Va, passed on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at her residence. Beloved wife of Jimmie Jones; daughter of Mabel Hall and the late I.E. Hall; sister of Mary Sims, Frances Ward, Bertha Rand, Doris Newman, Liz Gosik, Margaret Martin and Garland Hall. Family will receive friends at Adams- Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, Va., on Thursday, May 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, Va., on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. Interment Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

LADD
Raymond S. Ladd Sr., 72, of Richmond, passed away May 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Marie H. Ladd; and two children, Vicki L. Shackelford and her husband, Steve, and Raymond S. Ladd Jr. and his wife, Jamie; one brother, Beverly "Cocky" Ladd and his wife, Lois; three sisters, Ruth Walker, Jean Clatterbuck and Hazel Arruda; three special nieces, Cindy Sampson, Ginny Garver and Laurie Lawhorn; and one special nephew, J. Ladd; and two loving friends, Spunky and Stick. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and where a funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, with interment to follow, Signal Hill Memorial Park.

LIPPY
Edward T. Lippy Sr., 88, of Richmond, widower of Lee Z. Lippy, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2001. He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Edward T. and Mary N. Lippy of Crozet and William G. and Judy P. Lippy of Powhatan; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen L. Fogleman of Richmond; and nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Mr. Lippy was former secretary and treasurer of Archie's Motor Freight, Vice President of Transportation Service, Inc., member of First Baptist Church and the Men's Baraca Bible Class, member of Fitzgerald Masonic Lodge No. 299, AF & AM, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and member of ACCA Temple Shrine. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060. The Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., is handling arrangements.

MacHARG
Mary Louise Page Eustis Mac- Harg of Goochland County, Va., formerly of Birmingham, Mich., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at her home. She is survived by her husband, Lyman P. Mac- Harg; three daughters, Marylee Eustis Smith, Pamela Channer Prinsze and Elizabeth Eustis Turf and their families. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Howley Eustis. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Grace Episcopal Church, Goochland, with interment at a later date in Birmingham, Mich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goochland Fire and Rescue Squad Company 5 or the Grace Episcopal Church Scholarship Fund.

MILES
Wilma Miles of Richmond entered eternal rest May 14, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Bernard Miles; a devoted and compassionate mother, Ruby Jean Pearson; brother, Byron and his wife, Gloria Miller; a devoted niece, Ariel Miller; lifelong friend, Ethel Jenkins; and a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, Henry St., Ashland, where the family will receive friends Friday 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Saturday 1 p.m. at New Chestnut Baptist Church, Mechanicsville, Rev. Bobby Gattison, pastor, officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. The Dabneys' Morticians are in charge of arrangements.

MOORE
Kenneth W. "Snake" Moore, age 52, of Dinwiddie, Va., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Gail Moore; three sons, Denver, Rowdy and Ty Moore; one daughter, Lita Moore; two stepdaughters, Tammie Johnson and her husband, Keith, and Amie Gathright; three grandchildren, Brittany, Lane and Kylie; a mother-in-law, Deloris Carter; four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed by the federal government. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

POWELL
Billy N. Powell, age 70, of Highland Springs, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday (today), and where services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday. Interment 11 a.m. Monday at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va.

Joseph L.E. Rock, Sr. (Joe Rock) of Ruther Glen, Va., departed this life May 15, 2001 at Health South Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle E. Rock; three sons, Joseph L.E. Rock, Jr., Robert Rock, MacArthur Coleman, Jr.; three daughters, April Shelton, Cecelia Coleman, Rhonda Persaud; two brothers, Cleveland Rock, Harry Rock, Sr.; four sisters, Vera Christian, Lucy Hays, Susie Lewis, Jeanetta Lee, 20 grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 19, 1 p.m. at the St. John Baptist Church, Milford, Va. Rev. W. G. Berryman officiating.

SIMON
James Lawrence Simon, 83, of Tappahannock, died Thursday, May 17, 2001. He was the widower of Dorris Scott Simon and retired partner of B.H. Baird Insurance Agency, Warsaw. He graduated from VPI in 1939 and served his country in World War II. He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the Tappahannock Rotary Club, the Essex Club and St. John's Episcopal Church where he was trustee and had served on the Vestry and as treasurer. He is survived by his daughter, Jan S. Nofsinger; his grandchildren, Olivia K. Nofsinger and Rory B. Nofsinger; his sister, Margaret S. Frazier, all of Tappahannock; three nephews, and one niece. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Church Cemetery Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 336, Tappahannock, Va. 22560 or the Tappahannock Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Tappahannock, Va. 22560.

SKIPPER
Charles (Humpy) Skipper of 1003 Nelson St., formerly of Varina, died May 17, 2001. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. The family may be contacted at 226-0047. Funeral notice later.

TABAKIN
Ralph Tabakin, 79, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. A former resident of Richmond, he lived in Silver Spring, Md., for many years. He was a character actor who appeared in Barry Levinson's films and also was the ME on NBC's "Homicide" series. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Tabakin and Suzanne Taxin; one granddaughter, Lora Latterner; and two sisters, Betty Levin and Hattie Shocket of Richmond, Va. Services were held Wednesday, May 16, in Olney, Md., in Judean Memorial Gardens.

THOMSON
Mary Thomas Rawls Thomson died of breast cancer on January 24, 2001. She was born on June 15, 1913, in Ivor, Va., the only child of Ruth Batten Cobb and Willie Calvin Rawls. After graduating from Ivor High School in 1929, she attended the State Teachers College (now Longwood College), Farmville, Va. and graduated in 1933, second in her class, with a B.S. in math and science. From 1934 to 1937 she taught at Boykins High School, Boykins Va. In 1937 she moved to Alexandria, Va., to teach in the math department at George Washington High School and was there for six years. She married James Anderson Thomson on May 30, 1941. During World War II she worked briefly as a statistician at U.S. News and World Report and TWA. In 1944 she joined the first faculty at St. Stephens School and taught math there for three years. After raising two children she worked in the business office of St. Agnes School from 1965 to 1975 and also served as a substitute teacher. In 1991 she and "Jimmy" retired to Charlottesville, Va. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville, the Carlyle Woman's Club, the Alexandria Hospital Auxiliary Board, and Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. She is survived by her husband of 60 years; a son, J. Anderson Thomson of Charlottesville; a daughter, Ruth G. Thomson of Alexandria; a grandson, Matthew A. Thomson of Boston; and a granddaughter, Katherine Thomson of Princeton, N.J. A graveside service will be conducted at Ivor Cemetery, Ivor, Va. on Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Jim Becker officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Purviance Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of arrangements.

TURNBULL
Mrs. Ellen Phlegar Turnbull died May 17, 2001 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, B. Walton Turnbull; three children, Robert M. Turnbull and wife, Anne, B. Harrison Turnbull and wife, Cindy and Sarah T. Jones and husband, David; and six grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ann Harrill of Reidsville, N.C.; and a brother, Mosby Phlegar of Norfolk, Va. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, a member of The Woman's Club, a former member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Council, and a graduate of St. Mary's College, Raleigh, N.C. Funeral serrvices will be held on Monday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with interment to follow in Hollywood Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan Fund at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23233.

UZZO
Mrs. Agnes L. Uzzo, age 96, of Rockville, Va., died Thursday, May 17, 2001 at her residence. She was the widow of Gilbert Owen Sharpe and George J. Uzzo. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bernice S. and Tom Childress of Rockville; a son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert Jr. and Eleanor Sharpe of Richmond; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Uzzo was a life-time member of Berea Baptist Church, a 70-year member of Modern Woodmen of America and one of the organizers of the ABC Travelers Club. Her remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 18, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Berea Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nursery Department of Berea Baptist Church, P.O. Box 280, Rockville, Va. 23146.
